are u shipping from east coast by any chance?
im pretty interested, especially if your close to NYC

Thanks for your interest. Sorry, but I'm on the west coast.

As mentioned earlier, shipping will be in the same Spondoolies container: 49*23*22 (cm) with a total weight of 5 kg.

I did a quick check on USPS and shipping to NYC would be $38 for Priority mail 2-day. UPS ground is about $30. There might be cheaper methods.
522  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 03, 2015, 09:39:22 PM
Got a raspberry pi to try and run more than 2 sticks, and downloaded the cgminer for gekko, but am a pi noob and can' figure out hot to run it. Anyone with the know how and patience to tell me? Smiley

Did you download the Minera image that I posted? That's the easiest way to go. Basically you image it, boot, then set your pools. The link is in the first post.

Otherwise if you want to run on your own Pi image, you'll have to build cgminer gekko. Instructions can be found earlier in this thread, like sidehack said.
523  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Oct 1 to Oct 14 picks are closed. 2x bonus! on: October 03, 2015, 05:58:36 PM
So are picks open?

If so, the other cat says +2.26% to +2.50%.

Not very original. She's copying her brother.

That's right. She's a copycat.

Weekend bump, and price reduced.
525  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: October 03, 2015, 12:14:40 AM
While they might not win any races, these sticks are really solid performers!

This past weekend I got my two sticks up to 306 MHz and 16 GH/s each (running on Y cables with the voltage tweaked up as needed). But I was still seeing a few HW errors on one stick (the weak one of the two). So I tweaked up the voltage on that stick one more time.

So now I've been running for a couple of days with zero HW errors. It's more stable than when they were running out of the box with the stock 150 frequency (8 GH/s) and no voltage adjustment.

Note that my voltage adjustments were not scientific. I've got a meter but I didn't use it. I basically increased the frequency, and when I started to see HW errors I just made very small adjustments to the pot until they stopped. It was all by feel, but it seems to have worked well.

Thanks again to sidehack and novak for making such a cool product!
526  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: October 02, 2015, 10:46:35 PM
Actually I settled on purple (RAL4007), so if people really want to see Compac batch 2 in pink...

If this was really available, my wife would want one.

Mining doesn't matter. It's her favorite color Wink
527  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: October 01, 2015, 11:26:48 PM
This might just be me projecting, but it sure feels like they baked the national holiday into their shipping schedule. They just didn't tell anyone about it up front.

It was only right before the golden week holiday that they indicated that there would be a company shut down, guaranteeing that those whose orders had not yet shipped would be delayed to the maximum period.

None of us knew that the actual possible shipping window was effectively a week shorter than the indicated dates. They did a terrible job of setting customer expectations in this regard.

Further, there's a bunch of us that feel screwed by what process they use to prioritize shipping. They say it's in the order of payment, but there's anecdotal evidence that they prefer bitcoin transactions over wire transfers and they prefer big customers like data centers over individuals. In the end, shipping order feels arbitrary and greed driven rather than consistent, reasonable, or fair.

I really miss Spondoolies. That's a company that knows how to communicate. I wish I kept that note that came with my SP20E. They made more of an effort to connect with me than Bitmain ever did. Unfortunately there's no real competition for Bitmain this time around...

What's really too bad is that S7 product seems very good on balance. The real problem here is process and communication. All they had to do was schedule things so that people didn't feel screwed by their holidays. Instead they padded their schedule and smugly tell us that they're not officially late yet. Wow.

I guess I need to stop bitching and find some whiskey. That was probably be best suggestion so far for dealing with this nonsense...
528  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Bitmaintech s-7 underpreforms at freq 600 + freq 550 , not freq 500 (Fixed!) on: October 01, 2015, 10:17:49 PM
Phil, you know how Bitmain warns that you need to turn on the hashing boards first and the controller last? None of us really want to deal with that, so I think this warning goes largely ignored.

Seems like a soft reboot would effectively be the same as turning the controller on last. All the hashing boards will be well powered on, then the reboot insures that the controller initializes much later.

Perhaps some rigs are more prone to the problem than others. Maybe some hash boards come up too slow or some controllers start up too fast and that results in an inter-component communication problem.

If you are mining with a single cgminer at diff D with G GHs of hardware then you'll expect, on average:
 1 share every (D * 2^32) / (G * 10^9) seconds
Yeah that's obvious Smiley of course.

Or to simplify it you get 1 share every ~4.3 * D / G seconds
So at G = 32, a D of 32 will mean ~4.3 seconds per share, on average.

Anyway, yes your share rate depends on your total hash rate G vs the difficulty you are using D
So if you double G and keep D the same, then yes you'll get, on average, twice as many shares.

Your miner should also show a WU value that matches that anyway (but in shares per minute)

Great info! Thanks for the formula.

Interestingly enough, I had already settled on a difficulty of 32 before reading this. But the way I got there was not mathematical at all.

Basically I watched the log entries go by mumbling "one Mississippi, two Mississippi, ..." until it got to around 5 seconds per share Wink

Well well, thats a tight one with 2.49%. Congratz edonkey!

The cats finally did it!

edonkey - bake a lasagna for your cats and let me know your BTC address.

At last! One of the cats came through FTW!

The other cat is jealous now. Maybe she'll try harder next time.

They're not like Garfield though. Fishy treats are way better than lasagna.

Shipping to South Africa?

I prefer US shipping because it's easier. But if you provide the shipping label, then I'd be willing to make it work.

Note that I'd be shipping in the original container from Spondoolies. The export declaration from the original shipment indicates that the carton is 49*23*22 and the total weight is 5 kg, in case you need that info.

Thanks.  Maybe my address will be sitting there one day ,and yours, and everyone's here.

I sure hope so!

Congratulations to 1LPWZ9AskyF8Ux384cXoYbvNRTKgLooGh3!

Hi

How do you know who mined that block?

Thanks

As others have said, it's pretty easy to tell.

The reason why I got wind of the block quickly is because I've got a script that sends email notifications. If you're interested you can find the script here:

Thanks Kano. That's helpful.

But just a clarification. Since I'm running two sticks and there's just one instance of cgminer, won't the average time to detect a disconnect effectively be cut in half?

If it really makes sense to get to a share every 5 seconds, I want to understand the effect of multiple units on the equation. Unless it makes more sense to plan for the worst case and optimize for a single unit.

Of course with a whopping total of 32 GH/s, clearly I'm not really in this to win. While optimizing is generally good advice, from a pragmatic standpoint it's unlikely that it will mean the difference between finding and not finding a block for me.

536  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Sidehack stick solo pool club on: September 30, 2015, 02:51:26 PM
Yeah unless the pool disconnect you after you go silent for so long, but probably not. On solo mining it's pretty much only for monitoring that the hardware is working as intended. You might as well set diff to 10billion, put less load on the pool and use somewhat less bandwidth.

I've settled for 128 for my sticks. At 16 GH/s that seems to result in a share or two within a couple minutes.

I use Minera which will color code the hardware in the web GUI based on how recent they've gotten an accept. With these settings, they usually stay in the green or yellow. So I can tell at a glance that things look OK.

This seems like a good balance. It results in reasonable feedback while not being overly chatty with the pool.

I will get a new batt for my multimeter and do some measureing for you guys.

My S7 is running stable at 4.8 at 600. Power at wall 1180. Using a RM1000 and a RM650

Mine only got to 4.7 at stock speeds. But at 612, it averages 4.8 and is very stable. After increasing the frequency the HW errors went up a bit from 0.0222% to 0.0386%, but that's still fine.

Overall this unit is very stable and predictable. I just wish they could have shipped the rest of units that I ordered before getting plastered on baiju for a week Smiley

Does anyone know if they've shipped any S7's today?

I emailed them last night and the answer I got this morning was that they're "having a holiday now."

No shipping for me until the 9th (if then). Very irritating since I bought within the first 5 days.

You know, if Bitmain is going to sit on our orders for a week during their national holiday, the least they could do is give us a web cam in their data center so we can watch our S7's make money for them Smiley
