701  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Minera v0.6.1] Your next mining dashboard - Networked/CPUminer/CGminer/BFGminer on: August 18, 2015, 06:48:56 PM
I'm trying to use Minera on a Raspberry Pi with a Zeus Thunder 3 and bfgminer. Note that did a manual install of Minera on an existing Pi image.

When I try to start up the miner, it fails with no obvious error. I tried running bfgminer manually using the same command line so that I could see what's wrong. Apparently there's a missing library, or the paths to it are not there:

Code:
 /var/www/minera/minera-bin/bfgminer --scrypt -S zus:all --set zus:chips=128 --set zus:clock=254 -c /var/www/minera/conf/miner_conf.json
/var/www/minera/minera-bin/bfgminer: error while loading shared libraries: libbase58.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Note that I tried running as various users, including my own user, "minera", and root, in case there was a path issue. Same error in all cases.

After searching for a solution I tried this suggestion, but it did not help. I'm still seeing the error:

https://gist.github.com/daryltucker/1c17354fa39ce8cb2285

Any thoughts on getting this to work?

Maybe I need to manually build bfgminer?

When I tried to buy a Falcon (before he shut the thread down), he would not honor the original deal. He basically wanted to charge for shipping, even though both threads indicated a clear price with shipping included.

Rather than post an angry "bate and switch" on the thread, I gave him a chance to honor the original deal. He didn't, then he locked the original thread.

I guess he was too lazy, or didn't care enough to lock this thread.

In short, he is not to be trusted. Time to leave a negative trust...
703  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Spondoolies Golan Heights coming this month on: August 16, 2015, 10:40:40 PM
I really like Spondoolies. I loved the SP20, and would probably buy an SP3x if I could find one for a reasonable price.

But if they've got something that competes with new Bitmain S5+, they better release it soon...
704  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 15, 2015, 09:10:43 PM
dunno man... i think 2 undercloked sp3x are better Shocked
i mean, psu in miner and less noise...
now it depends on the price of sp3x, underclock, price of electricity, etc....

The trick though is to find an SP3x. I had hoped that some might free up as people buy the S5+, but I haven't seen much availability yet.
705  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM 2880W Bladecenter PSU Breakout Boards - 80+ Platinum power on: August 15, 2015, 06:36:49 PM
Can someone tell me the physical dimensions of this power supply?

Edit: Finksy answered me via PM. The approximate physical dimensions with board attached are ~23" x 10" x 3".

Edit: Also, does it really weigh 45 pounds?
Answering my own question, no, it's only 15 pounds. I just missed that in the original post. In his PM, Finksy said they're approximately 14 pounds.

I've made a few attempts to search for this info, but most of the hits are people selling them.

Thanks in advance.
706  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 15, 2015, 02:11:06 PM

Can't believe the day finally came to a new Miner being released? Any reviews or videos on this product out yet?

yes , Here are some Videos presented by ITOP Corp

Looks like you're powering that with 5 x 750 watt PSUs? Hard to tell which PSUs are powering what, but I'm thinking of a similar set up.

Are you seeing around 3500 watts at the wall, as advertised?

With those cables coming out the top plus the power supplies, this will take a lot of space out of a traditional rack.
707  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 15, 2015, 12:38:04 AM
[2 is fine, still only about 165W per PCI-E.

So each of the 9 hash boards draws about 330 watts apiece?

So the remaining 500-sh watts is for the fans and the controller?
708  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 14, 2015, 09:16:27 PM
Can this be rack mounted?  Does anyone know?  Looks like brackets on the front sides but they seem funky
Please folks -- ears on rack mount chassis are NOT the only thing you use to mount them! Or better not be.
All heavy rack mount gear is supposed to be sitting on a support shelf/brackets. The ears are mainly only to keep them in position.

Anyone know if the S5+ is strong enough to be placed on rail style shelves? Or does it need to be on a full shelf (i.e. supported across the middle)?

It's hard to tell from the picture how physically strong across the middle this unit is. Is it really just 3 units bolted together, or are they integrated in a single piece of sheet metal?

Now that I look at the dimensions though, I'm not sure it's wide enough for some rails. Looks like it's only 14.6" wide.
709  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 14, 2015, 09:00:15 PM
...

There are other things you may find which are a priority for you, but fortunately both of those guys are very helpful and most importantly honest. They will tell you if you pick something which doesn't make sense even if it costs them a sale. You cannot buy that kind of honesty, it is there or it isn't.

Wow! Thanks for the great info. Very helpful.

I'm in the US. If I go through with this then the S5+ would be in a data center, so fan noise isn't a problem. The louder the better Wink

Since noise isn't a problem and I don't need anything fancy like load balancing, it's looking like a pair of 2880 watt units might be the way to go. But I'll also take a look at what gekkoscience has. I'm already fan of theirs (ordered my sidehack sticks minutes after they went on the market).
710  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5+ is available to order, 7.722TH/S 0.445J/GH on: August 14, 2015, 07:03:10 PM
After originally being put off by the S5+, I'm now warning to the idea. If I retire my existing hardware, I have enough amperage to put this in our cage at a data center with enough headroom to be comfortable. We're running at 208 volts.

The trick is the power supplies. Basically you need something like 1300 watts each? I don't have anything like that right now.

And this is a string design, so there's no under clocking options, right? You have to feed these beasts the documented power and that's it?

Bitmain recommends their own server power supplies, of course.

Too bad this guy only has 1100 watt PSUs left. He's out of 1300 watt units, I think:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1037372.0

There's this 2880W option too. I guess you'd need two of them, which is cheaper than the Bitmain route where you'd need 3 1600W units:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=966135.new#new

Any other PSU options that would provide enough power but be reliable and affordable?

711  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: IBM 2880W Bladecenter PSU Breakout Boards - 80+ Platinum power on: August 14, 2015, 06:47:13 PM
The original post indicates that these require 240 volts. But the label indicates 200 - 240v.

So these will work on 208 volts, right? That's a pretty common data center voltage option.

i might even go as far as to show you how NOT to do it! Tongue

That could be entertaining, what with the magic blue smoke and all.

But don't burn your house down. Where would your kangaroo live?
713  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: August 13, 2015, 01:56:50 PM
That's exactly what I did for a hub, and it's run me just fine. I ran nine sticks pulling an amp each and the tenth port driving a Pi, ran perfect.

I'm not afraid of some soldering, or using a meter. But I'm not sure how you did this.

Does anyone have a guide?
714  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: August 12, 2015, 07:05:13 PM
Currently I don't think cgminer is able to set different frequencies for sticks in the same cgminer instance. Since hotswap support became the standard and the -S flag disappeared I'm not sure what's required to specify devices in separate instances anymore.

Then I guess I'll need a Y connector after all...
715  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [SIDEHACK STICK] Official sales thread for everywhere not already covered on: August 12, 2015, 07:04:13 PM
While it's probably not practical unless you have a single stick, you can get USB hubs that have a charging port with higher amperage.
When buying hubs like that, double-check (look for reviews, perhaps) that the higher power port actually passes through the data lines as well - some of them really are only for charging Smiley

Good point. It's always a good idea to check.

With this model, the charging port does pass data. I just double checked by plugging in my iPhone and it is visible on the USB bus.

While it's probably not practical unless you have a single stick, you can get USB hubs that have a charging port with higher amperage.

For example, I've got one of these at work. The tenth port is rated at 2.1 amps:

http://www.ianker.com/product/68ANHUB-B10A

I figured I would run my pair of sticks on my desktop at work anyway, so this should work for one of them. For the other one, I might look into those Y cables.

Or if the miner software allows per-unit frequency settings, maybe I'll set a lower frequency for the stick plugged into a non-charging 0.9 amp port.

There's a test stratum URL for merge mining. I've had my miners pointed at it for weeks with no issue.

But there's been no news either. Hopefully merge mining will be out of beta soon.
https://mining.bitcoin.cz/news/enjoy-namecoin-merged-mining/

Thanks. I saw this yesterday.

I've pointed my miners back at the non-test URL.

Man this fills up fast. This time the cat says:

+0.51% to +0.75%

He was pretty close last time. Maybe he'll finally get some fishy treats this time...

For those that are ltc mining, keep an eye on the pending block reward halving as part of your ROI calculation.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I'm concerned about the halving too. I haven't found an online calculator that takes it into account.

Not that anyone really knows what will happen when the litecoin reward is cut in half. Will cutting the supply result in an increase in value, or has that already been realized in the run up? It's an unclear time...

720  Other / Archival / Re: Diff thread Aug 8 to Aug 22nd picks closed for now. on: August 08, 2015, 10:06:39 PM
I saw this on the forum earlier today too. But why is it not showing up on the bitmaintech.com site?

Not that I really want three S5s strapped together anyway...
