1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple = Centralized??? think again 😊 on: December 16, 2017, 01:41:51 AM
...and they can make their own coins. How is it not centralized?

no, they can't. their protocol cannot be changed, therefore no more coins can be created.

ripple is also open sourced, which is completely the opposite of centralized. do your homework.

That just means someone can make a decentralized fork.

Are the coins fixed supply? if not, how are they created? Who's running the majority of nodes? Is adoption organic or driven by a marketing organization?

The site reads like an ICO scam... grand claims, inaccurate data (with respect to other coins), and "BUY NOW" buttons everywhere.

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: inheritance service? think about your childrens on: October 19, 2017, 08:41:09 PM
I've given thought to this as well, some sort of multi-sig solution with a deadman switch where you can also provide your family with instructions.

There's absolutely no such need for a service for such a simple problem. How can you trust a centralized entity to give your Bitcoins to your family upon death, when you can't trust your family with your wallet?
It's completely useless, just ensure that they have access to your private keys.

No reason it can't be a dApp... and by your logic no one would write a will because everyone's family would already have free use of their stuff.
Right, but that's exactly what wills are for, and a will with the private keys
and instructions as to who gets what is all that's needed.  There doesn't need to
be a service for this, which would probably be a scam anyway.  If you write a will,
that's all you need to do.

A will either requires trust, or an insecure storage of private keys, probably both. It makes much more sense to use this programmable money to its potential, a trustless and decentralized deadman switch would be a much more reliable solution and should be trivial from a technical perspective. As for saying any such service would have to be a scam, you'd have to apply that logic to lawyers too then. The "service" need only be an interface to do what is already possible in a decentralized and trustless way.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EOS - Asynchronous Smart Contract Platform - (Dan Larimer of Bitshares/Steem) on: August 19, 2017, 04:30:26 PM
Sorry if this has already been covered in this thread, it's a long thread and search isn't helping...

What's the value in the current token? Both the site and whitepaper disclaimer that it's worthless.

From the whitepaper:

Quote
PLEASE NOTE: CRYPTOGRAPHIC TOKENS REFERRED TO IN THIS WHITE PAPER REFER TO CRYPTOGRAPHIC TOKENS ON A LAUNCHED BLOCKCHAIN THAT ADOPTS THE EOS.IO SOFTWARE. THEY DO NOT REFER TO THE ERC-20 COMPATIBLE TOKENS BEING DISTRIBUTED ON THE ETHEREUM BLOCKCHAIN IN CONNECTION WITH THE EOS TOKEN DISTRIBUTION.

So from what reasonable speculation is the value of the token derived?

These tokens will be exchanged for tokens of the EOS blockchain (when it will be launched in July 2018). And after that these "new tokens" will be used by the new platform.

Thank you, is there an official source you can cite providing information on how this exchange will work? And the asset to be exchanged for?

You didn't even try to find the answer or read any of the pages or read any of this page. And for that reason I won't give you the answer to your question

Got it, so you don't know either. I did read, quite a bit here and on another forum, there are hints and vagaries about a token exchange, but nothing investable. Nothing officially sourced, just speculation... 24 pages of drivel.

If the supporters of this token expect others to invest to grow support, providing meaningful information to prospective investors shouldn't be such a labor. Guess i'll pass on this scam if your useless response is to be taken as an indication that this is just a circle-jerk token.

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MaidSafe Coin and BitShares ! on: August 06, 2017, 03:29:00 AM
MAID is solid tech, and obviously a very intelligent dev team, but is also very close to some pivotal releases. With Stoj in a state of disarray and Sia lacking usability, it really has potential to be THE cloud killer in terms of storage. Not only that, but decentralized web-sites are a killer-app in and of themselves. I'm all-in on MAID.

BitShares, I can't wait for a decentralized exchange but I'm not acquainted with the status of the project.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What altcoin should i buy? on: August 06, 2017, 03:09:22 AM
MAIDSafe should launch Alpha 2 in the next month, that's your best bet.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 10, 2014, 05:43:17 AM

For all you believing in the 'double top there is only a way down scenario'. This stock picture of apple says it all!

Are you actually trying to compare an altcoin to a behemoth like Apple that actually makes products that work and are used by millions of people everyday?  Darkcoin is just another cryptocurrency that could fade away tomorrow and the world would never know or care.

I was a big supporter of Darkcoin until it turned into a cult like following.  People need to keep their expectations realistic.  Darkcoin peaked and is unlikely to hit the level it was at anytime soon.  Also, to those that keep talking "hold for long term", how long are you going to hold?  And regarding the common saying used in this thread "shaking out the weak hands", the weak hands have been getting shaken out for months.  What is weak about selling for a profit and using that btc to make more profit on other coins.  It's not weak it's smart.

There is a lot of competition these days.  Darkcoins value has always been based off of it anonymity feature and that has not been delivered.  You can only push things back for so long before people start doubting everything and move on.  On top of that there are new coins using the cryptonote protocol that offers anonymity without the need for a complicated masternode network.  Once the GUI is out for those coins and they have addressed bloating on the blockchain, all of the major arguments against cryptonote coins will be gone.

I dumped all the DRK I had above .002 and plan on buying back at the bottom which isn't even close yet.  But I guess I'm those weak hands getting shaken out.  I would rather be weak and rich in BTC than a bagholder.

You're right, comparing Apple and DRK is daft - DRK is a real product that's useful to the majority of Planet Earth, Apple is just overpriced niche hardware. Several orders of magnitude difference in customer base.

And competition? LOL. Making vague promises does not count. The Darkcoin team is doing actual WORK. Darksend is functional, and it will continue to get better, we're just perfecting the masternode payment code right now.

+1

Wow, some of you Darkcoin cheerleaders resemble brainwashed cult members.  DRK is a real product and Apple is just hardware?  Apple is used by millions of people.  DRK is just another altcoin with a lot of unfulfilled promises.  Those promises may or may not materialize but Apple is here and proven today.  The fact that someone would make a comparison to Apple with Darkcoin being praised while Apple dismissed is just ridiculous.

In case you don't get it.

Darkcoin market cap  $ 42,191,903

Apple market cap $564.980.000.000

Compare Darkcoin to as many other cryptocurrencies as you want.  When you compare Darkcoin to Apple and imply that Darkcoin is more useful you just sound ignorant.

Apple is only IP. DRK is a network effect.

IP is a fake, statist idea, nothing more.

No block source available after updating to new wallet with -rescan switch.

Do you have addnoe in your config ?

Stop darkcoind. Remove addnode. wait 10 min.

Use -reindex
Code:
-rescan                Rescan the block chain for missing wallet transactions
-reindex               Rebuild block chain index from current blk000??.dat files

I looked away from it and it started working by itself eventually, on two separate systems.

For those of you that do not realise, you are holding the SWISS FRANCS of the crypto world.  Rich people will come to you begging to buy some Darkcoins from you.

Interesting, and I think apt, analogy.

sold some to buy it back cheaper... fear not... for these reasons it'll rise exponentially.

Fuck you former me and your stupid .0158 buy order.

Hurts every time I run the numbers on the 4500drk I held at one point.

You mean the $58,500 (for now) you had at one point ?  Tongue

To make it worse I just cut a check for 76k in fiat... could have almost broke even. I hate me.

Anybody have any idea what's gonna happen when Europe wakes up?  Will the price go up more dramatically, correct some, or stay about the same?  I think it's about 6:30am in western Europe.

Extreme profit taking. Anyone who isn't trading this is a meat head. I've almost doubled my DRK holdings today by trading the swings.
