I have a feeling there will be a pissing contest between ozcoin and ozziecoin.  Grin

Do you have a plan for distributing ozcoin?

I'm not going to do Zig's? mod. No point in it!
Just do the originally correct R52 49.9k mod and let it start making you more profits!
I seriously doubt we will ever need to revert our seeds back to mine SHA coins!
That's the only reason to even try a different approach. And if I was going to take a different approach, I'd simply add a DPDT switch to select between the original value of R52 (aka R139) and 49.9k.
End of story!
We KNOW without any doubt that the R52 mod works! Hundreds if not thousands of miners are now and have been using it successfully to make more profit$!

Well considering it took about 30sec to unscrew the heatsink, remove the resistor, and re-bridge R46, i would prefer this mod if it does work.  I guess the point of this mod is it makes it very easy to revert to stock which i can vouch for first hand.

Well, based on your stellar record breaking fast resistor changing speed!!!, it would only take 2 minutes to revert the R52 mod!!!!  Grin
Point is, based on your complaint, the mod doesn't seem to work as advertised, anyway!.....
We ALL KNOW that the R52 mod works, perfectly!
What are the odds that we will ever need to revert our pods back to stock anyway? Slim to none!
And, the most effective way to mod the pods, IF reversion is for some reason ever a desired feature, is to add a 33k and 49.9k resistors via a DPDT switch to R52's (aka R139), pads. Simple and permanent!
Never need to work on the pods again! EVER!
This DPDT mod (wolfey2014 and friends mod  Cheesy) is the ULTIMATE mod for our pods if one wants the option to select between SHA/DUAL or Scrypt overclock modes!
Someone also tried and evidently succeeded at overclocking SHA mode at 1000MHz. Not sure if any mods were made or not at the time.
I mean, let's just get this modding thing over-with and get back to mining and making money!

Firstly, In no way is my comment a complaint.  I'm simply asking if anyone has this mod working and guide me in the right direction.

Secondly, its almost certain people will want to use their Gridseeds for sha256 if the price of BTC rises or a profitable SHA256 coin is released.  There is also benefit in reverting back to stock for re-sale.

So I had a go at the ZiG mod since I had some 16K resistors laying around.  All seemed good, i check continuity, and resistance at the regulator leg was 49K so electrically everything looked fine.  However when I plugged the unit in and tried hashing the red LED started flickering maybe at about 20-40hz, then started a flickering / stop cycle about every 3 seconds.

So has anyone tried this Mod and confirmed it worked? does the resistor need to be a 17K?  I would have thought 1K difference wouldn't have mattered. Maybe I have missed something?

Note: miner worked fine once I removed the resistor and re-bridged R46 pads.  I also did the R139 mod with a 47K resistor and it also worked.

645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GridSeed 5-chip USB miner voltage mod on: April 23, 2014, 03:11:43 AM
Hi Nemercry,

There is just 1 (ONE) resistor to be solder...I called it Rmod =17K/16.9K...

It is to be soldered to the cut-off bridge pads of R46...1 cut...1 solder...that's it...simple...

The original resistor...Orange at position #1...You called "R52"... is in reality R139 = 33K...the  last resistor in the chain of VID resistors ...the same one that you are replacing...This one is just STAYING in place...untouched...NO un-soldering needed... simple "work?.. no thanks"... Grin

You are completely correct as of doing 2 bridges...marked "Yellow"  to "undo" the R139/"R52" mod and to shift the Voltage reference back to resistor in the "green" position...=36K...

I am doing reversal of the Rmod in R46 position by simply shorting back R46 pads...even with Rmod in it...So effectively we back to R139/"R52" value = 33K...ORIGINAL stock value...schematics...performance...etc...

I hope it is clear now... Grin

Regards, buddy...

Definitely more space to work in over by R46.  I'd like to put a jumper and a resistor there but might not bother.

That's 1/4 watt resistor in the photo (wrong value).  I could only find 1/2 watt locally today and I gave up trying to fit it in with a jumper.  Thanks for the "rollback" info Nemercry & ZiG - that gives more options should it ever be needed.

I was having a bit of trouble soldering over at R46.  For some reason I could not get the solder to bond well on the inner point.  It would break free easily. No problem with the outer point.  I gave up and re-bridged it. That was with the 1/2 watt resistor.  I'll try again when I get the 1/4 watt resistors I ordered.

Hey Happydaze,

The trouble you are having is caused by the red layer on the top of the board...so called "Solder protective mask" ...it is preventing the solder to stick to the surface of the board except to the designated for soldering actual components/parts...

Because R46 is just a bridge of copper trace between 2 pads...without actual component present...they cover the whole area with this red mask...including pads and the bridge ...

So, you need to SCRATCH the pads...VERY GENTLY...to remove the red top layer...and to uncover the THIN copper surface underneath...Be CAREFUL...no force...otherwise it is easy to remove the pad(s) itself...the same way as you remove the copper bridge in between...

After that...Use the flux and solder to try to cover the pads with nice small ball of solder...before actually soldering the new Rmod

Hope it'll solve your problem...

ZiG

If I'm understanding this mod correctly. Reversing it will still require the same amount of work to reverse as reversing the R52 mod.
One thing that is better about this mod though is that all one has to do is remove the 17K resistor to put it back to original specs.
I for one do not look forward to soldering those two bridges again! I was happy we did away with that. It's a real pain to do, even for a master of soldering.
If all I have to do is solder on a 17K resistor to those two points, I agree that is it a better option than removing 'r139' (aka r52) and soldering in a replacement resistor only to later have to remove it then solder back in that tiny SMD resistor.
Still, why has no one yet figured out how to overclock SHA mode? Will any other value resistors allow this? A happy medium between SHA and Scrypt overclocking? I mean, it would be great to be able to overclock dual mode if the need ever arises.
The best thing to do is add a SPDT switch for MOD IN - MOD OUT.
I believe someone else envisioned this option a while back.

Has anyone tried a 20K pot across R46 as suggested by ZiG? this would make it very easy to switch from stock to overclock and back again.

A $3.30 verification fee applies per claim.

SCAM
Before calling this a scam.  Did you buy a cup of coffee today?  What did that cost you?

We have invested a lot of time and money into this.  We believe $3.30 is not an unreasonable cost compared to the cost of setting up a mining rig to mine 500 ozziecoins.

Also, I think people shouldn't expect everything to be completely free.  There is a cost attached to maintaining our infrastructure.

If someone is not prepared to pay a $3.30 nominal fee to ensure fair allocation, we suggest they are more than welcome to set up a mining rig.

$3.30 doesn't seem unreasonable, Gloria Jeans charge $4.70 for a large flat white AND you have to finish making it yourself as they're too lazy to put a lid on.

Firing up a rig would cost considerably more than $3.30

Can you please explain what the $3.30 verification fee covers?

Why did ya tell me no and then the price dropped not more than an hour later.

I swear all suppliers are fucking evil!
I hate the ASIC industry!

can anyone actually confirm the value of the resistor removed for the mod?  Ive been looking at the schematic  and according to the schematic its a 127k resistor, but the bill of Materials has it as 33k?  also it isnt R52, in fact it R139 for anyone who is interested.

Guys...don't be fooled...

You are replacing R139...27k with higher value...47k to 51k... NOT R52...

R52 is in the Feedback Loop of the Voltage regulator...

Refer to the schematics...

I told them this...10 days ago...

Let me share this...:

From unpublished PM reply to Wolfey2014 from April 1 2014...(never sent to him...after looking at his "claims" to others people results and annoying adds all over the place)...:

DVDD+ adjustment -

1. First - cut the small bridge in place of R46...it is a trace on the main board...connecting to last pads to the left of VID0/1 resistors row (R63, R64, R66, R139 and non existing capacitors in between ) ...
2. Second - solder a resistor to these ( now separate ) pads with value = to desired value in the VID chain - 27K (R139) ...these resistors are in series...Rmod + R139 = Rtotal...

So... Rmod = Rtotal - 27K (R139) ...
Example...:
For Rtotal = 47K ...Rmod = 47K - 27K = 20K ...solder 20K in place of the R46 (bridge)
For Rtotal = 49K ...Rmod = 49K - 27K = 22K ...Solder 22K ...very standard value on the top of R46 pads...
etc...

From now on I will call this

"ZiG mod"

...because I don't mind sharing ...but don't want anybody like Wolfey2014 to claim that it is his/her... Wink

I have been experimenting with this since the beginning days of this thread...soldering the trim pod of 50K to R46 pads...this way the voltage to the chips can be adjusted smooth in 10-20mV small steps to check the hash rates...

Another advantage is that you DON"T NEED to remove ANY of the original components from the Gridseed...no de-soldering of R139 ...

And one more advantage is ...you CAN REVERSE the voltage mod to the ORIGINAL by simply removing the Rmod from R46 pads + restoring the bridge R46= 0 Ohm...or even simpler...making short on Rmod/R46...

Hope it is bringing more light ...and understanding of what Exactly are we all doing...Modding VID reference on the Voltage regulator chip of Gridseeds...That's it...!

Thanks for reading this...and ...Good luck modding...!

ZiG

Thanks Zig althought this post totally confused the hell out of me lol.... Now I am totally lost in regards to modding the Gridseed.

I thought the one best mod is to replace the position of R52 with 49.9K for a cool 1200MHz and roughly 510-515kH Although technically it may not be called R52 but this is all what we know it off as this is what states on the actual PCB board.

Some more instruction and pictures and detail about the "Zig mod" on how you can adjust the voltage in the 20mv steps..

Are you saying your mod works exactly like the Original mod but you can software adjust the voltage? and possibly reduce the voltage back to stock so some people can still dual mine?

Zig is 100% correct.

this is in line with the schematic.

The zig mod has great potential, in fact it would be a good way to test the limits for duel mining.
651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GridSeed 5-chip USB miner voltage mod on: April 22, 2014, 02:40:36 AM
interesting. I will be trying this on my next unit!

This question is if R139 is 27, or 33K

If you zoom in on the schematic you can see the schematic has its value as 127K

however if you look at the bill of materials (https://github.com/gridseed/usb-miner/blob/master/hardware/GC3355%20USB%20BOM.xlsx) you can see the value of R139 is 33K

Does anyone have a datasheet on the UP1509?

so this one is for another Australia ? of for the same (AUS coin)  Cheesy
Yes from Australia but very different.  We are not a litecoin clone. We've modified the protocol (with help).  Our goal is to distribute this coin to all Australian residents so normal Aussies get to experiment with Blockchain technology. Our objective is to introduce crypto to the wider community. If more people understand digital currency, this will benefit society and help to accelerate the development of decentralising technologies.

Do you have a detailed plan for distribution? will all pre-mine coins be held in an address which can be viewed on the blockchain? have you discussed you plan with the ATO or government?

Also how about a little more details on yourself? are you Australian? where do you reside? are you happy to meet others from the Australians from the cyrpto community face to face to confirm legitimacy?

If this is indeed legit you need to be as transparent as possible.

What frequency setting are you using for the the two that won't submit shares?  Is it the same frequency as the others or lower?  Individual Gridseed vary in the amount they can be overclocked.

I have tried multiple frequency from 700 to 1175.  I have also loaded a fresh image of scripta.

I'm having trouble with 2 units not submitting shares after doing the 47K mod.  One of the units was submitting shares until I did a power cycle.  I managed to get it to submit some more shares after pushing the reset button on the PCB but the unit just stopped again.  I have checked and I'm getting 1.63V across the resistor, and continuity to the regulator.  Im using scripta on a pi to control the units.

I have another 10 modded units running fine.

Has anyone else had the same problem and found a fix?

Try different usb cable, try different usb port, try different power barrel connector , reset miner  let us know how that goes

I have tried all these and nothing.  Is there a correct procedure for resting the units?  I simply pressed the reset button while i had 12V power connected.

I let the units run overnight and still 0 shares submitted.  I will try disconnecting the units for a couple of hours.

I like the idea behind this coin, but why IPO? If you truly believe in this coin then invest some of your own capital into it and maybe take a small pre-mine.

If this is legit, then seriously reconsider the IPO.  Too many people burnt recently and just seeing IPO on a new coin is bound to receive criticism and drive potential adopters away.

Lol I thought I was the only one getting pissed at these stupid gridseeds.... Right now only 11 of 14 are working after the mod they were all working then a couple stopped submitting shares resoldered the resistor those started working again then a few more stopped resoldered those now 3 more aren't submitting shares. Smdh ..... Guess that's what happens when I mess with shit.

Yeah. These have been nothing but trouble so far. If my blood pressure goes up any more, I'm gonna have a heart attack, and finally be at peace...lol

So far I have modded 2. 1 of them has quit working all together, at any freq. The other seems to be working at a higher freq, if I put it on it's own PC, because I can't figure out how to adjust it as part of a group.
Another one has stopped working as well. I didn't mod that one.
No single software seems to be able to handle these properly. Nothing works.
Before I bought them, All the posts made them sound so great. I guess I am doing things all wrong, because they are NOT.

It sounds like you may have moved on from the Pi, but I had the same problems with it while running scripta. I followed the directions in this thread - http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=70437 and have been running since the 8th without any problems. Let me know if you decide to give it another go and I might be able to help if you run into any other problems.

I have tried this, but when i add "dwc_otg.fiq_enable=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_mask=0x3" to cmdline.txt my pi no longer responds.

Any suggestions?

This is what my cmdline.txt file looks like:

dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=ttyAMA0,115200 kgdboc=ttyAMA0,115200 console=tty1 $
dwc_otg.fiq_enable=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_enable=1 dwc_otg.fiq_fsm_mask=0x3
dwc_otg.nak_holdoff=32

Is that what you have?

added dwc_otg.nak_holdoff=32 to the end of my cmdline.txt and now she is running with gridseeds pluged in! Thanks Mate!
