1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will Ethereum Big PUMP.? on: January 22, 2020, 05:52:55 PM
EIP 1559 could be the biggest cause for an ETH pump this year if it gets implemented, and the probability is good.  With EIP 1559 part of the fee is burned, making ETH more or less becomes deflationary.  And it assures that only ETH can be used for the fee, increasing the demand somewhat.  Something to keep an eye on.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your preparation for 2020? on: December 19, 2019, 11:04:13 PM
I'm preparing by doing more hodling.  It's looking like the next year (or 2) could be the last time to get in before usage really takes off, and a good time to get into some of the more promising alts.  Loading up on BTC and ETH for obvious reasons (halving, 2.0, DeFi looking like it will blow up).  Loading or preparing to load up on alts with a DeFi angle or ones that are starting to actually get used like SNX, UOS, LINK, RLC, AGI, QNT, TFD, RSR, REN, MKR.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Potential ETH Prices in December the Lowest 98$ and the Highest 222$ on: December 19, 2019, 10:51:19 PM
A trader I know who's much smarter than me has ETH bids set at just below $100 and thinks it's very possible, so you're not alone in thinking that.   ETH 2.0 is on course to happen sometime from April to July of 2020 at the latest last I checked, so there could be some big swings coming.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What do you think of ETH Price will be by end of 2020? on: December 05, 2019, 05:27:19 PM
There's a lot of ifs here, but IF DeFi takes off like it looks like it's going to, IF staking a minimum of 32 ETH becomes lucrative, then ETH will probably 10x from where its at right now.  But that will likely take longer than the end of 2020.  End of 2020 my spitball guess is $417 if the above IFs start taking shape.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your take? on: November 27, 2019, 11:41:05 PM
It appears that the wheat is finally separating from the chaff and garbage projects or those that ran out of money too fast or couldn't keep up development are finally starting to be properly valued, and that's 95% of what's out there.  Projects with good teams like QNT, SNX, ENG, LINK, REN, FXC, AGI, MATIC, VID are hanging in there for now (maybe not VID, it plunged today for reasons I don't know yet, but very interesting team behind it).  Advice I'd give to noobs is to check the people behind the coins and see what past successes they've had, those are likely to be the best long term hodls.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Portfolio update , your thought please on: November 21, 2019, 10:43:22 PM
RVN, ZRX, VIDT, CHX, MITX, and SWM all could have a bright future as they have good FA.  Neo's ship has already sailed, same could maybe be said about some of the other older coins on that list.

As others have mentioned it's smart to have more than half your portfolio consisting of BTC and ETH for stability.  ETH's DeFi potential is looking good.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Realistic 3x - 5x on: November 13, 2019, 11:26:27 PM
Some others that seem criminally undervalued are ENG, XTZ, AGI, RLC.

AION and VET seemed dead for a while but have recently been reanimated.   AION changed focus and could jump if it gets a killer app.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Realistic 3x - 5x on: November 13, 2019, 10:09:09 PM
UOS and SNX I agree on.  You seem to be good at DYOR.

DCR seems like a good staking coin.

Some of the smarter people I know are thinking DOGE could 3X like it has often done before the start of major altseasons in the past.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 3 Concerns You Have For Bitcoin on: November 11, 2019, 10:49:42 PM
1. How much longer will it be the king?  ETH and other cryptos are faster and have more features, perhaps making BTC obsolete soon if it doesn't keep up.

2. How concerned should we be about quantum computing?   If the 5 million or however many bitcoins that are lost get their keys cracked it would plunge the price, though that might be the least of our worries if it happened.

3. How can it achieve a better public image?  Most people who know almost nothing about bitcoin have a negative impression because they only hear about the negative aspects like criminal use.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple CEO: As many as 99% of all cryptocurrencies will likely go to zero, on: November 11, 2019, 10:35:35 PM
He's right, we'll either have a few big coins and a hundred thousand dead ones, or we'll have a thousand specialized cryptos, and its more likely the former.  Per Metcalfe's Law the value or effect of a network is proportional to the square of the number of users, and most apps will want to use ETH or whatever everyone else is using to stay connected.

Like most people I see the irony of this statement being made by Ripple's big dog since it looks like their ship is done sailing and Stellar has a better odds of succeeding.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Dogecoin real or a meme? on: November 04, 2019, 06:56:05 PM
DOGE isn't dead yet.  There was an update to the core wallet 4 months ago (Core 1.14) so it's still being developed.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What scares you the most? on: October 31, 2019, 04:30:17 PM
My biggest fear is a potential flippening where ETH or something else becomes the most valuable crypto and I've hodled BTC too long.  Like most people I've made the mistake of hodling things too long in the past, most of what I hodl is BTC but I don't want to be on the wrong side if ETH overtakes it, I'd like to have a crystal ball that tells me when to bail out long before that happens if it happens.  The probability of ETH taking over seems good considering the potential of DeFi and all the other use cases it has.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do we still expect a repeat of 2017 ? on: October 30, 2019, 09:57:18 PM
Nobody knows the future but there's some things in the works that could trigger something similar next year or beyond.

The Bitcoin halvening is around May of 2020, right now about 1800 Bitcoins are mined every day, at today's prices that's around $16 million in USD value created every day.  It's questionable if there's that much in new demand for BTC on average every day, but once only 900 are created everyday if BTC is still the global standard things will be looking up.

A lot of people smarter than me are thinking ETH could boom if ETH continues to be the platform of choice for DeFi and dApps.

The 2017 boom was partly from noobs entering via word of mouth, Facebook was full of posts by people telling their pals to get into XRP and ETH.  After the market crashed and many of these hodlers got burnt there's a lot of negative sentiment by normies toward crypto, but the halvening and short term memory could bring fresh blood again.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHEN ETHEREUM KEEPS DISAPPOINTING on: October 25, 2019, 02:24:08 AM
Very weird market we're in now and strange that ETH isn't used more, but one way to frame it is that we're being given more time to accumulate than what we thought we'd have.  Part of me hopes this depressed market lasts another half year so I can accumulate more.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's up with Ethereum? on: October 24, 2019, 06:13:49 PM
ETH will likely get a lot more usage in the coming years.  Most dApps and DeFi usage is with ETH right now, and the future of both looks good.  If you read some of the leaked Delphi Digital reports that have been floating around, most of their focus right now is reporting on the future potential of DeFi.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What kind of Altcoins have a future? on: October 23, 2019, 09:28:21 PM
Nobody knows the future blah blah blah but some areas look promising if you DYOR.
ETH will be huge if DeFi becomes huge, and the probability appears high.
AI-as-a-service could be big, if so coins like AGI and VXV could benefit.
Exchange tokens could thrive after the regulatory clouds have passed.  KNC could do well, BNB might keep doing well.  BXY could be a steal if it survives as it's basically free right now courtesy of some FUD.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPL] Gold Pressed Latinum v3.0 New chain. on: October 16, 2019, 11:55:40 PM
In old PoW GPL chain if was no blocks in last 2 Hours, new block not accepted anymore and you need restart wallet.
Or you may use stratum server, in this case you no need restart wallet. I just try and create new block.

For PoS minting you must have 1 years old coins (for old coins, then 180 days for coins generated after last fork) minimum 2 connections and enabled PoS in GUI wallet.
For daemon in Linux use command: setstaking true.

When was the fork that changed the time to 180 days?  I have coins I obtained in mid-2017 that weren't moved to a wallet until shortly before the Cryptopia delisting and I have no options for staking, I'm trying to determine if this is due to age or the wallet settings.

Nevermind, the wallet suddenly started staking automatically after a few months.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is investing in crypto a good idea? on: October 14, 2019, 07:30:58 PM
Not too late yet, but in a couple of years it might be too late.  The next 2 years could be very profitable if you're positioned right.  Bitcoin has the halving event in May of 2020, and ETH is likely to do much better than BTC.  ETH 2.0 is happening soon and many projects are using ETH instead of creating their own chains, some alts could rocket up with it.  It's looking like the time to get in is now or never.

Its irresponsible to make a statement like that.  Why is eth more likely to do well in the market vs. Bitcoin, because of a change to 2.0?  That's grasping at straws there.  OP stick with bitcoin and you should be fine.  You will have people shill you coins they own but not for the right reasons.

Not just because of 2.0, there's a lot of DeFi and dApps potential.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which coins should i buy? on: October 14, 2019, 05:56:18 PM
I have some altcoins from early 2017 and some BTC and ETH too. I am thinking about investing some more but don't really know what i should be looking into.

Below is my list of coins.

BTC, ETH, NEO, ADA, LSK, LTC, Stratis, Waves, ARK, SHIFT, Pivx, VTC, GRS, Powr, Tenx

When i bought in early 2017, Statis, Waves, Ark and ADA was popular, how are these coins today?

I am not interested in low market/very new coins.

Thanks!

Everything in that list except BTC and ETH looks rather dead right now.  That's the problem with alts, they can't be held for more than a year or 2, they need to be sold when they appear to be peaking after good news or when they appear to be dying.

ETH and BTC are good to have in large quantities right now, especially ETH.  Some of the more promising alts that are being shilled a lot at the moment are LINK, NYZO, DAG, AGI, UOS, RLC, REN, QNT, RSR, MKR, ENG.  Do your own research on them and you might find some things you like.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: DOGE reaches 30sats! Do you think it could go higher now? on: October 14, 2019, 04:59:34 PM
Some of the better traders are calling for DOGE to reach around 80 sats in the mid to long term.  Historically DOGE is the first coin to pump big when an alt season is approaching, check the past charts.  We'll see soon if history keeps repeating itself.  I sunk 1% of my portfolio into it, I think it's worth it for a potential 3x.
