My horse riding days are behind me. Getting older and don't want to risk a Christopher Reeve kinda situation. Safer to drive around the property on a 4 wheeler John Deere Gator. And can carry more practical load than horseback.

4 wheelers can also be the cause of a broken neck. Wink

Uuuh yeah!
Life is fucking deadly'n shit. Don't know anyone who survived it  Grin

Yeah yeah so I'm a whore for John Deere products now. Wut iz haPpAnING!?Huh?!!!!!1111

They*re not bad (nor small), though i like Fendt better, but the latter are all over here, while you don't see many of them yellow rims driving around...

The easiest way is to spent about the same time (minimum) with simple, uplifting activities.

Honestly, the thing that gives me the most satisfaction lately, is becoming increasingly proficient with a John Deere 325G track loader. Spent a solid 8 hours behind the controls last Saturday. We're getting ready for October planting with our neighbor/partner and I'm clearing out about 17 acres of additional hay fields for the guy to grow on - with a root-rake attachment, in addition to handling the burn piles for all the cleaning and improvement work I'm doing to the land.

I should not complain too loudly.

Have been very blessed all things considered.

Why? You can be blessed and still suffer a lot (inside).
You like animals? Being with and caring for animals can give you a lot of positive, grounded "energy", especially if you're avoiding to live a social life, like me.
The cattle farming (and horse riding) will most likely change your life a lot towards the positive, emotionally. And i can never reccommend L-Tyrosine enough to anyone in stressful times...

Take this, ChartBuddy!!!  Grin Cool Tongue

Forum rank never was important to me, but after i discovered this, i was stoked and felt quite excited and proud for some moments  Cool

Grief.

I can't stand life, lately. Too fucking complicated. I'm a simple fucking man at heart.

Life is pretty simple, but people are making it complicated.
I only managed the bulding of a house so far, and it gave me a hell of a bad time, too. We were on the verge of sueing the builder, but in the end we settled for money (less for him), only a light case, but it was shitty enough, given that i was in bad shape regarding my mind and body, had to quit working - most of you should know the story already.
Once things stick in the back of your head, you're better off compensating them. Balance your emotions. The easiest way is to spent about the same time (minimum) with simple, uplifting activities. Things you loved to do as a child, teen, young man. Bring back some spirit, to lift your soul up from the ground it has been dragged to. Meet people, i mean the ones you really care about, the ones that are funny and know you the best.
If you're a strong man, i'd reccomend you to learn that breathing method by Wim Hof and take those 2 minute cold water plunges. It's so stress relieving.
I know it became too popular lately, but it just works. After the first few breaths, your mind gets so calm inside, hard to compare, it's like MDMA without the excitement.
A big plus is that it's really simple to learn and do.

I spent a summer long without cold water, but five days ago the water in my dedicated barrel cooled down to 11°C. I was doubtful at first: "How did i even do this last winter every other day?" - 30 seconds later with my nipples two inches under water, that peaceful feeling kicked in again, flushing my mind with endorphines. And so i got hooked again.
Your mind will stay clear AF for a while after, try to embrace and extend this feeling as long as possible. Keep your hands and feet warm when dry again.
I can only reccommend this to bring up the levels of the right endorphines in the brain. It's so simple that it just works and it makes you more stress resistant overall.

I heard that recycling is a scam, and it doesn't really happen on the scale that we had been told in the 70s... so there are various differences in the kinds of plastics that would NOT have much if any "recyclable" value... so then which kinds of plastics can actually be recycled.. and then are they sortable.. or are we just being sold a bag of tricks.. and there is not much if any value in recycling a large number of items that we previously thought to be recyclable?

Heard about a new kind of super worm that feeds those plastic that nature can not dispose of. Recycling cost more money than the value of goods it could produce. The only thing govt can do is to force companies to collect their plastic and recycle those by themselves Or force them to use any eco-friendly materials.

The way our environment is polluted by us it will be difficult to recover from it that easily.

(Future) global government, yes. Otherwise it makes no real sense to save the earth in the US while China (as a stupid, simple example) destroys it.
FYI The vast majority of pollution in China basically are caused by western companies, while the same are currently trying to greenwash themselves in the US and Europe.

Would be cool if you could deliver "heard about" soures  Wink
EDIT: Are you even sure that the worm doesn't just shit out the plastic at the other end?

707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 21, 2022, 07:02:53 AM
btc is just going to create derivatives on top and kill any price action.

BTC is not going to create anything like that. But it's a known secret that the "financial elite" want to "tame Bitcoin" by incorporating derivatives.
In the long run, scarcity will strike. Nobody will get fuck-rich within a merket cycle when getting in now, but just watch at the whole picture while zooming out.
Coins on the exchange without trading them is just dumb, and lazyness probably never led to positive results.
If you got fiat you don't need for longer times, buy Bitcoin and protect your holdings. Thinking long term is crucial for success. You don't have to live the monk life to get more "money you don't need", but if you get comfortable with your living situation, you will identify a certain amount of money you are able to spend through DCA and lump sum strategies. From the "richest man of babylon" view, you could just easily look at your money as "future bitcoin" holdings. But first, you have to believe in Bitcoin.
Hope is weak, trust is strong. If you hope for high fiat gains to buy you stuff to show off to whoever, your'e still believing in fiat. Saylor pretty set some marks and dropped some strong statements what trust in Bitcoin really means. It needs a dramatic shift of view on the ecosystem.

EDIT: The term i was looking for was actually dedication, but i'm too lazy to work over the above block of text  Smiley

EDIT2: Astronomy news... I took everything apart and could actually repair some minor things, lowering repair cost. The mount is toast, but i spotted a better one on the 2nd hand market. If i make some bucks out of the defective parts on ebay, i should be able to replace it to get to do astrophotography again. I originally decided to assign a lower priority to restoring my astro gear, but since then i was looking at a clear night sky for two times already...

708  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 21, 2022, 06:29:52 AM

There's low hanging fruit too, no?.. and maybe a lot of the plastic does float to the surface.. perhaps perhaps.. are there any garbage patch experts in these here parts?

I suppose that I could look it up on the interwebs, if I was more ambitious.

Who's paying for it?

What do they do with the garbage?

I heard that recycling is a scam, and it doesn't really happen on the scale that we had been told in the 70s... so there are various differences in the kinds of plastics that would NOT have much if any "recyclable" value... so then which kinds of plastics can actually be recycled.. and then are they sortable.. or are we just being sold a bag of tricks.. and there is not much if any value in recycling a large number of items that we previously thought to be recyclable?

Well, to add some more cents, there actually is Recycling (sort of), but the process/cycle it's not repeatable infinitely. Waste materials are ground to dust, added to various materials (you probably don't want to know about some of them, really...). These materials are then used in the making of products, the backside of floor panels, for example, as a filling material for all kind of uses, or even "green" plastic products.
But materials degrade and dissolve, become waste again, and then, even if fed into another cycle, a certain part slips into the environment. The pollution is delayed, it reminds me a bit of nuclear waste, which is just stored for future use (or catastrophe. better read the fine print...).
We could agree that plastic recycling is at least slowing down pollution through microplastic, but the majority of plastic waste is still just shipped to and buried in Africa or some other places, hopefully not those with a similar population-to-drinking-water ratio...
It just adds up to the problems we already brought to this world without knowing a solution. Thinking about tomorrow is fine, but one should think about next year, too  Wink

proverb says. buy low sell high.

but do you know many out there are confused by this term.

I had to gulp down two beers while explaining in detail about that sentence.

Shit, i always bought when i was high  Shocked
So... did i do it wrong?
710  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 20, 2022, 06:41:45 PM

Sorry, but this is wrong.
Other than some exceptions, only Microplastic is doing severe damage to the maritime environment, as well as to human health (if you're a seafood eater).
Microplastic isn't even filtered out by cleaning systems sufficiently, because it's no more floating at the top of waters. It's already in fish excrements, blood etc. and in case you didnt know this already, a very large part of maritime MP is originating from washout of synthetic fabric (fleece jackets), with no chance of getting that stuff out of the water again.
But overall, it's very appreciated that something is being done against pollution  Cool

712  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 18, 2022, 07:04:42 PM
Ouch! Sorry to hear that, OOM. I felt my heart almost missed a beat while reading your story. I can relate, as I also own expensive gear—fortunately no serious accidents so far. Can only remember the sensors getting dusty on windy days in the field, the glass getting smudged, etc., nothing worse than that.

Bitcoin can surely get you back to speed (and better), but maybe not just yet, or you could soon end up owning the most expensive photo gear in the world. HoDL on if you can, let the corn grow a bit more before you take the plunge.

Don't think about it too much (if you can). No one got hurt, and that's the important thing. The rest is replaceable.

Yeah, the good thing is, i can forget, even if i don't always want to...
Thanks for the supportive and kind words, highly appreciated.
I had to laugh on "most expensive photo equipment in the world" - but it's 100% true. I hodled for some years now, got a small amount planned for cashing out, but we are about 5x from my personal "cashout-price".
I'm better off saving some money in the next couple of months and shoot some used gear in decent condition.

Oh. No.  NO.  no.

So many sorrys fill my soul for this one.  Not the least of which is the fact I will not see your photos for some time.  But it is what it is.  And it is just stuff right?  And a moment to extend grace to your youngin, who, even if they are not showing it probably feels pretty bad about this.

Honestly, it felt weird actually not shouting at him, but my inner self just collapsed in sync with the fall.
Poor little fellow just left to his room, shocked and ashamed, while i picked up the pieces. He came out later again, and he was terribly sorry. I can't be rude to a kid acting like this. As you said, it's just stuff.
What was depressing me way more than the loss was that i seemed to fail in raising my kids at some point, because i'm telling them since elementary school to not run inside the house.
I told them a thousand times that they are free to run and shout outside as much as they like, or in case of emergency, but this is one thing i could not establish at home despite high effort.
That feeling of parental failing, i guess most parents participating in WO know it too.

EDIT: So, ChartBuddy, we no more go the moon, we want to go to the stars now, right?  Cool

EDIT2: Soaked some leftovers from the vaporizer in Canadian Gin for five days, which i forgot about until today. Now it's time for filtering and testing, this should be an evening to remember. Will likely not be able to write much meaningful soonish, so wish y'all a good night  Grin

#LongLiveHaikuSunday

So, that said, here come some bad news:

There will be no more astrophotography pics from me posted here within the next few months (at least).
My youngest one powerslided into the tripod today. I was directly looking at the scene, when i saw the scope with camera and everything mounted tipping over like in slow motion. The only thing that wasn't slomo was the hit on the floor. I am glad that nobody got hurt, though. 8 Kilograms of metal and glass would hurt a child's body in a pretty ugly way. It was also partially my fault, because i had the tripod feet extended, it would probably not have tipped over if i had it set much lower. It was prepared for the next clear night, which seems to almost never come, lately. Also, the whole setup was built for smaller loads than what i had mounted (EDIT: ...and therefore very top heavy).
The result: Refractor focusing tube damaged beyond repair, focuser damaged beyond repair, Astro-DSLR bayonet mount tilted, polar wedge bent, tracking mount gets caught on several positions, on both axes when turning by hand in unlocked position.
The tripod, field flattener and lens heating survived.

I still don't know how to handle this event emotionally, seems like i will repress thinking about it and find a solution when i'm emotionally over it.
It's unlikely that i take some Sats off my stash at these price levels, otherwise i would be filling a nice online shopping cart right now, instead of typing this post...
Shit happens.

The consequence is that i will aim for a heavier, sturdy tipod/mount combination. I can mount bigger scopes onto such one, it would be tracking more accurately and if someone runs into it, he will suffer more than the equipment will.
Lesson learned  Sad

Almost halfway there after 16 hours!!  99 confirmations!  Woop woop!

In case someone is looking for very small speakers, the Genelec 8010 are superb..

will use them for traveling ...and damn, I'm really impressed with what comes out of these tiny things...

You gotta "massage" them with different sound material, at high levels, after unpacking and connecting them.
They will sound even better at any level afterwards.

I could have shared my little secret with the wife, too.

You wouldn't want to do that.  It's too logical.

Furthermore, it might well be too easy, and another thing is that she might end up stealing your cornz, too... club you on your head when you are out camping (I mean watching fiddling with your camera regarding the stars "half a night long") and then tell the authorities that you must have gotten eaten by a bear..

Read this. See in particular Page 14.

There is no "impact" on climate from crypto mining and not from Co2 either. F
It's all described here - written by a lifelong gas turbine engine designer. i.e. someone who actually understands the science of thermodynamics as opposed to a geologist, oceanographer or other hand-waving clown drawing lines and arrows all over the place.

If you're going to promote oil lobbyist brainwashed half-baked intellectuals then at least cite from actual peer-reviewed scientific journals not some wordpress bullshit from a "turbine engine designer"
who cannot write a research paper correctly and uses a few rudimentary high-school physics formulas. But I guess all those graphs must have impressed you.

97 percent of scientists say man-made climate change is real. The other 3 percent's average expertise is far below that of their colleagues.
source: https://www.pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.1073/pnas.1003187107

I wonder which category your "turbine engine designer" belongs to?

And even the most doubting of climate deniers will see the mountains of plastic, chemical waste and other disgusting shit floating in every single part of our oceans if they dunk their empty heads into the water. Do we really want to continue encouraging the pollution giants to keep doing this? Does your sushi taste better with microplastics? Or maybe cancer-causing chemicals in our air smells better than crisp, clean, fresh air?

As to your misunderstanding of Kirchhoff's law of thermal radiation, you are leaving heat capacity in relation to higher mass density completely out of your equation.
Keep our planet clean.

I understand that warm air can hold more CO2.
It's a complicated hen-egg problem, but regardless of that, we have discovered a lot of more or less related problems, most of them are solvable with good amount of conscious brainpower and dedication, but still, if there is an actual approach, it's lukewarm and short sighted.
I bet we wont't compensate for climate change in a suffcient way, if we  don't even solve the most important underlying problems.

What was that "stupid space rock" thing about, again?  Wink

maybe consider using shamir backup..

Thanks, always open for useful suggestions.
As the NANO-S is somewhat limited, i consider some upgrade in the future, but i had some doubts (not so much related to security) to buy a trezor in the past, but i am going to look into it again soon.

Just write a big note to yourself saying "Ich habe meine Bitcoins versteckt" even if someone sees the note, they wont know where thay are versteckt, and you can go searching your surroundings immediately instead of spending half a day swetting in angst.

Honestly, Ether got pretty useless by the merge, and as usual, useless things tend to become worthless.
No question that this coin was never meant to  be decentralized and free, because there would have been no switch to PoS.
It would not be the worst if Ethereum would get hacked, i mean big time. Even though it would hurt crypto a lot and Bitcoin a little bit too, it would lay out the basic plan for Bitcoin moving forward.
I can understand those motivations, like "saving energy", "saving climate", "getting more appealing in a CO2 way of things"... and so on, but this type of hysteria isn't very objective. The underlying assumption is that Crypto is obsolete, some nerdy hoax trend that outgrew itself. Do you by chance think about NFT as well, while finishing to read the preceding sentence? *lol*
If Bitcoin would be understood as a tool to manage wealth, it has to seem useless to the unwealthy ones. "Wasting power" is only the cream top.
Something important as food can rise in price, need magnitudes more of electric energy for maintaining production and distribution, almost nobody would want to "ban food".
Bitcoin has to become more imortant, then it won't be fought as much, people would want to learn how to use it.
At least one of the main competitors is now getting slowly drowned in uselessness.

Now see what Vitalik has to say about saving electricity or moving towards green blockchain. Honestly I don't think world 0.2% Electricity is going towards Ethereum blockchain at first place. Secondly, those who have bought expensive GPUs for mining ethereum will move to some other chain, they won't throw away there mining equipment just because they can't mine Ethereum anymore.

Unless these claims are not backed by science and maths, they are just as useless as Ethereum itself.
