1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 2000w PSU NOISE on: June 16, 2020, 08:06:35 AM
Dear all,

Im planing to buy one used mining rig with 2000w supply for 8x 470GPU cards.
Noise of it is kinda loud. I was already suggested in another topic that i could replace to 2x psu or 1psu maybe 1300W or 1500W.

What do you think is is possible to isolate the psu with some kind of boxed sound isulation or this is not safe?

Thank you very much.
I really am complete starterd
Thanks for support
Blaž

Basically each of those GPUs uses maybe max 150 Watts or so. Hence 1200Watts for GPU power and maybe 100 Watts for everything else. You can find plenty of >1300Watts PSU out there. You can also use 2 PSUs at once if you already got them handy however you will need to make sure they are grounded together and that there won't be any feedback loops or you will destroy one or both of them.

Rember don't connect +12V from one PSU to another PSU. So if you are connecting it to the GPUs, make sure you don't mix the PSUs for each GPU. So if a GPU requires 2 PCIe connections, make sure those are both from the same PSU.

Don't know what your noise tolerance is but a 2000 Watt server PSU is very loud. You can't keep it in your bed room, in your garage or basement will be fine however.

Thank you very much!! Exactly, dude had this rig in the basement. I would have it in my living room (wont be always ON).

Will consider that for 2 psu.    What do you think about 1500W psu ? Is there any difference or negligible difference?

Hello,

Im complete beginner in mining (just used some nice hash, and cmd ...).

I found some used mining rig with :

8x RX470 8GB
8x PCI-e Risers
120GB SSD
Socket 1151
G3900 CPU
4gb DD3
2000W
+mining rig aluminum

I was in contact with him and he said that 100% rig get to 250mhs.
Price i think its ok 690€.

But the noise of this 2000W is quick big i think, is it possible to change it to 2 smallers psu?

Any advice would be helpful
Thank you very much in advance-

You can use 2 PSU without problems, all you need is use a 2 PSU cable for this, there is a lot of options on the net. Remember dont use more than 2 SATA-PCIexpress adapters per cable, if you can just use 1 cable per sata cable.

thank you very much! But what you think should i use rather 2 psu (how much W?) or i can go with the build 2000W?
Thanks
