1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptostocks.com gone now or whats the matter? on: July 23, 2015, 10:28:17 AM
I made a withdrawal and it went through. So it looks like it wasn't so bad after all.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: cryptostocks.com gone now or whats the matter? on: July 23, 2015, 09:15:58 AM
The information presented in the email I thought was trying to social-engineer me (which I reported a couple of days ago in this thread) seems to actually match the information on cryptostocks.com. So maybe it wasn't an attack on me after all (or, maybe the attackers were able to take over the site completely and now operate it). Who knows.

I just noticed that I received an email that looks like it's trying to social engineer me using information from Cryptostocks. So I think the site has been compromised.

As a matter of balance, I did trade with josef2000. I found him a bit difficult to talk to (maybe he's a teenager or has ADHD?), but the trade went fine.

Quote from: josef2000

9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [BIP][Draft] BitID - "Connect with Bitcoin" protocol on: January 21, 2015, 08:54:47 AM
Video is a bit of a problem for me - is there a written reference of what you did?
I typed "ssh localhost", it displayed a QR code and I used my phone (with skubit BitID client) to scan and authenticate it.

In the second attempt, I copy&pasted the BitID URL into a browser, replaced "bitid://" with "http://", the QR code showed in the browser instead of the terminal and I also scanned & authenticated.

Sorry the video is fuzzy.

After a long fight, I managed to add QR code output and http callback to Jay's libpam-bitid. Now you can use your mobile phone to authenticate a ssh session. It works for sudo as well, and probably anything that can output the QR code into the terminal. It probably wouldn't work for a graphical session manager / screensaver.
I made a youtube video to show how cool it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6I4HuzSTM0.

libpam-bitid: A PAM module to use a bitcoin address for credentials.

This is a linux PAM implementation of the BitID protocol. Linux system access is granted using just a bitcoin address.

You can find the fork at https://github.com/PeterSurda/libpam-bitid

Code:
--gpu-platform 1
to the command line options when running sgminer.

16  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: BitInstant CEO arrested by FBI on: February 04, 2014, 03:44:25 AM
He is not being charged with selling BTC for fiat. He is being charged with money laundering. You do know there is a difference? Maybe you are just trolling...
Actually, he's not being charged with money laundering, but conspiracy to commit money laundering. This means he is not alleged to commit money laundering himself, but helped others do it. He logically cannot have committed money laundering (disguising the illegal origin of money), as the illegal trades on Silk Road happened after BitInstant/Charlie sold Bitcoins to BTCking. What we have here is called "reverse money laundering", when "clean" money is used to commit crimes.

That being said, I regrettably agree with Goat that it does not look good for Charlie. Even though it does not look like he committed money laundering, that's not enough to get him off the hook.
17  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-21 - DLD14: Satoshi Nakamoto Reveal Himself? (no evidence of-course). on: January 25, 2014, 07:26:03 PM
If you meet Satoshi, kill him.
If you kill Satoshi, you become Satoshi.
18  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-21 - DLD14: Satoshi Nakamoto Reveal Himself? (no evidence of-course). on: January 25, 2014, 11:53:15 AM
My impression is that there are a lot of unlikely claims in his argument and he lacks important knowledge of Bitcoin.

I'm one of the panelists, and also was present later when people asked the guy questions post-panel. He was interviewed by journalists too, and there has been nothing published about this so far, they probably don't believe him either. He doesn't claim to be Nakamoto, rather that he had the idea of an anti-bankster cryptocurrency, wrote the requirements and hired Nakamoto to code it. I forgot his name, but he claims to be a German living in Munich. Allegedly, Satoshi Nakamoto is the real name of the developer, and he paid him to a bank account in the US for the development. He had bitcoins worth "100 million", but lost them when his laptop and external hard drives was stolen. He was unaware of the utility of the proof of work concept (rather he claimed it was supposed to be a marketing gimmick) and the 51% attack (i.e. no idea about the byzantine general's problem that Nakamoto solved). Satoshi allegedly promised to remain hidden until this German reveals himself, and is supposed to reveal himself now too.

I don't think so.

Bitcoin was also mentioned in yesterday's "Criminal Minds", S09E12.
20  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-01-06] BYRON WIEN: Bitcoin Will Collapse In 2014 on: January 06, 2014, 09:23:00 PM
Does ANYONE over the age of 70 not think bitcoin is going crash (Wein, Greenspan, Gary North).  They don't get it, and they never will.  Wein's predictions for 2013 were also bad.
My grandpa doesn't think Bitcoin is going to crash and he's 98. He understands it's a paradigm shift.
