Just wanted to let you know the automatic payment isnt working. I was at .19 and set it to .25 btc. Im at .29 now and nothing has been sent. in my case, I see that payments happen every day around the same time: 2011-07-06 16:09 2011-07-07 17:24 2011-07-08 16:50 2011-07-09 16:23 and not the exact moment it goes over my set limit. how much time since you went over .19? I believe it is working correctly, it will automatically send you your balance, once per day, when over the limit you specify... It will not send the balance the minute you hit your limit, it will queue a transaction for the daily payout time because you have reached your set limit. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The estimated difficulty was to be around 1.59M and we ended up with 1.56M It is hard to say for sure how much these attacks effected the retarget, but i think they did somewhat. That's just ~1.886% change and it may be caused by another factors. I can estimate that you would have to block all pools and solo miners for more than 6 hours completely to make a 2% change if the hashrate is not growing. I guess you are right.... if it did effect it at all it couldn't possibly be by much at all. I am just trying to figure out why it seemed like all of the pools got hit the day before and day of the re-target, it seemed to me like they were really trying to do something. Anyways great job with the pool man, yours did much better than most others through those nasty attacks.... I myself got targeted by some DDOSings recently, and its not fun... My ISP just about turned off my dedicated server for good because the floods exceeded 20gbps and crippled their network.

Btw, would it be realistic to think that these attacks could also exist because people want miners to go offline in order to drastically decrease the difficulty for a week? I don't think that DDoS can decrease next difficulty at all. Even in cause of powerful attack most users will just switch to another pool. The total network hashrate is not affected. On the day of the last difficulty change, all of the pools got hit very hard. The day before our network total hashrate was 14Thash/sec.... When we approached the re-target they started attacking ALL major pools, and effectively dropped the network hashrate to under 9Thash/sec. The estimated difficulty was to be around 1.59M and we ended up with 1.56M It is hard to say for sure how much these attacks effected the retarget, but i think they did somewhat. For a time I couldn't connect to ANY pool. I have accounts here, with btcguild, slush, reddit, etc. They all took a beating the other day.

Tycho, is there anything reliable that you can say about down-times due to ddos- or dns-attacks? Because I really like your service over all other pools I have tried but I'm tired of checking my hashrate every 20minutes just to see if deepbit is down again or not. Is there any statement possible at which point the servers will be stable again?
Greetz
He is doing the best he can I am sure. Some floods are quite simply not possible to stop, block, or do anything other than nullroute the IP (taking the site offline). I am impressed that when I see them knock deepbit.net offline, the pool still accepts our work, and still records it. He's done a great job keeping everything working, and you guys should try to understand whats involved here, rather then just asking when it will be fixed. There is no problem to 'fix', and I don't expect the DDOSings to continue for long. It was probably some looser either trying to stop the difficulty from increasing much, or trying to stop Tycho from having +50% of the hashrate. All in all my workers only lost an hour in the last few days... That's not a big deal at all.

I doubt these floods are even from a botnet, these days DNS Amplification attacks are just about impossible to stop.. Its not the pool operators fault the pool is going down, I would say he is doing a damn good job keeping it up through this bullshit. Last time my servers were getting attacked they were taking 20Gbps+ DNS amplified attacks... smoked them right offline. Instantly nullrouted.

Bitcoin / Mining / New miners (Null Monitor)?
|
on: July 07, 2011, 02:31:41 PM

I just picked up four 6970s... They don't seem to want to mine unless there is a monitor plugged into them.
Is there a way around this issue with these cards? My nvidias had no problems mining without a monitor plugged in.
Thanks

Haha you got me The 50$ part is purely speculation.
But the other part isnt.... In the next few days we will see a major hosting services provider start accepting bitcoin... Shoot me if im wrong... But it will happen.

I am sorry I can't mention any names yet... all I can tell you for now is that in the next few days a big player in the hosting industry will be accepting bitcoins.... Im not talking about a mickey mouse VPS hosting place either.... We finally have a major player looking at bitcoin.
I think this will make a difference.... just them putting the words bitcoin on their site will make a difference for us

The price of bitcoin goes through the roof....
I don't understand why everyone is selling off their bitcoins cheap... Ive got some inside information that will change things in the bitcoin community
The price of bitcoins is going to go through the roof... I could easily see them at 50$/coin soon... I think we are very close to some big companies accepting bitcoins as payment.
That would help things greatly.
I think we are getting some bad publicity right now and it is not a coincidence.... That is the only thing causing some people to second guess the value of the bitcoin. Falsified information.
