1  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Complicated old wallet import on: April 03, 2022, 06:59:31 PM
Thank you!  I merged over from Electrum 1 to 2.7  then 2.8(If I recall correctly that was Bitcoin core .01 to .02 then .03) then imported them onto another service.  I will double check the uncompressed data.  Thank you!

Okay thank you for the replies. That was a list of a bunch of compiled addresses from my Harddrive, I'm sure it has some testnet etc.  I figured out most of it, is the WIF different now than it was back in 2012?   Also, I have staked coins/tokens would that prevent them from moving?
3  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Complicated old wallet import on: April 02, 2022, 07:24:08 PM
Hi, i am trying to import my old crypto portfolio and am having trouble with format.  I slightly recall having 2 addresses as my master key one leading with L the other leading with 5 last time I imported them.   I found this off my old hard drive, and haven't really got the slightest clue what to do with it.  Do I need to update? The last time accessed was around 2012.  Any thoughts? Partial file below(sensitive data xxed), and seed recovery disabled.  I think that there are several staked coins/tokens, I do not know whether they are still staked.  Any constructive input would be greatly appreciated!

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Impact of bitcoin if Satoshi Identity is revealed on: March 21, 2022, 05:33:38 PM
Satoshi 's identity is not important to Bitcoin. From what I gathered he was just a fictional character, made by an extremely talented coder or group of coders. His place in Bitcoin was purely to start the program and offer tech support until it grew up enough to run on its own. If we knew the coders the world would not change, except maybe for Craig Wright and other imposters.  The fictional character of Satoshi is just that a mythical creature.  He will never be a real living person.  On the other hand, if we could make the imposters fictional characters it would be of great value to the project, since their lies have devalued Bitcoin's reputation. The association of Bitcoin to a person is not valuable.  Satoshi could very possibly have been artificial intelligence showing what it was capable of.
5  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallet problems relating to an obsolete cryptographic keyboard...... on: September 11, 2021, 01:47:55 AM
I hope that someone might understand what I am asking.  Here is a good article about what my problem is s/www.cryptomathic.com/news-events/blog/exploring-the-lifecycle-of-a-cryptographic-key-%3fhs_amp=true]https://www.[Suspicious link removed]s/www.cryptomathic.com/news-events/blog/exploring-the-lifecycle-of-a-cryptographic-key-%3fhs_amp=true
specifically:
" Key destruction: This method removes an instance of a key in one of the permissible key forms at a specific location. Information may still exist at the location from which the key may be feasibly reconstructed for subsequent use.
Key deletion: This method removes an instance of a key, and also any information from which the key may be reconstructed, from its operational storage/use location. Instances of this key may continue to exist at other locations (e.g., for archival purposes).
Key termination: All instances and information of the key are completely removed from all locations, making it impossible to regenerate or reconstruct the key (other than through a restore from a backup image)."

I am wondering if it affects my private to public data relationship since the file hashes are not the same, does it affect the whole block?  Does it invalidate my private data when checked against the public data since there may be characters missing?

My user name was encrypted with 2 or 3 special characters that have since become obsolete, and taken offline by ibm...
I have to be honest and admit that this is the first time I hear that certain special characters have been removed. Do you know exactly which characters you used? Check out this source, maybe you can find what you are looking for there. I also found this. Just copy and paste the needed characters if you see them.

Thanks, I think it was a little newer than that.  I found thison ibm.  Hopefully I can figure it out.

Chris Larson was who set up the plugin, and I'm not certain how to get in touch with him anymore....

It is on electrum, with a custom plugin, by way of mercury mail.  My user name was encrypted with 2 or 3 special characters that have since become obsolete, and taken offline by ibm(disappearing file syndrome).  I think I may have used the same username as my miner's name, which I think would have caused problems with my private data since the files wouldn't hash out to the same value.  The files were upgraded at least version 2.8, possibly 4.1. I have the pre plugin file to electrum but my password doesn't work, I'm assuming it's from the keyboard problem.  Was there an option to disable seed restore?
8  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Wallet problems relating to an obsolete cryptographic keyboard...... on: September 02, 2021, 01:23:21 AM
Hi,

I am struggling to access my wallet that I made around 2009-2012.  I have come to the conclusion that I used special characters in my username and or signature that have become obsolete, and taken offline.  I still have not yet found all my private data using a hex editor on raid encrypted drives to piece together portions of it since raid reconstruction does not work with files that have become obsolete(if you know a better way I would be ecstatic).  The private data which I was able to piece together doesn't work, ie restoring from the seed keys.  I am not the best with programming or coding anymore, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to access my precious mining rewards.  How do I fix it?  Any advice is welcome!! Thank You!

Yes, I have a little bit of an idea what my passwords are, I also have a slight idea what my seeds are.  I have been using scripts from btc recover.  Thank you for the feedback, I think I'm gonna put together a brute force station out of an old dell optiplex.
One more question, if I update my original client, could I pull them off of there?

-snip- The raw files starts with a Q....ends with a ==😭....maybe I should try the hypnosis thing, from what I hear it may be easier!
Yes, that's the normal thing you'll see for encrypted wallet files, at least it doesn't look corrupted.

I'm not an expert in 'hypnosis' but it's worth the try since bruteforcing the wallet without a clue of the password is pointless.
I'd suggest you to look for files or physical "paper" where you might have saved your seed phrase.

That is what I have been doing, I just started going through the hex editor, hoping that I wasn't as secure as I could have been!

Thank you for the replies! It is fully encrypted, asks for a password to Import it, The raw files starts with a Q....ends with a ==😭....maybe I should try the hypnosis thing, from what I hear it may be easier!
12  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Lost password/seed on: July 19, 2021, 10:30:51 PM
I am sure it is an electrum file, it was upgraded to 2.8, but I cannot remember if that was where I left the cryptocurrency or if I moved it to another wallet...All of the files I have are encrypted and I don't want to try to brute force a file that has nothing in it....
13  Bitcoin / Electrum / Lost password/seed on: July 19, 2021, 10:07:37 PM
Hi,

I am trying to recover an old wallet that should have a decent amount of cryptocurrency in it.  The problem is that I haven't used this account in around 10 years...I had an accident and am still recovering from a significant amount of brain damage, and have little recollection of a lot of my life, trying to remember passwords is not going to happen..... I cannot remember where exactly I put my cryptocurrency and have 4 or 5 different wallet files to different exchanges and am wondering if there is any way to check the balance on an encrypted wallet without having a password or seed?
Thank You!

Tldr: Is it possible to check balance of encrypted wallet w/o password or seed?
