Dwolla Calls Bitcoin Exchange Suit 'Specious'

Jeremy Quittner
2012-03-07

http://www.americanbanker.com/issues/177_46/dwolla-bitcoin-exchange-tradehill-lawsuit-1047292-1.html

Person-to-person payments provider Dwolla Corp. responded late Tuesday to a lawsuit filed by the Bitcoin exchange TradeHill, saying allegations that it put TradeHill out of business were "specious" and that the suit is little more than an attempt to generate publicity.

Bitcoins, virtual coins which are traded anonymously without the intervention of banks, are accepted by more merchants. That said Amir Taaki and Donald Norman Bitcoin Consultancy yesterday on the Online Payment Congress in Amsterdam.
1383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" - 3rd batch payment start. on: March 07, 2012, 06:01:27 AM
I've tested with each of my 2 powerpack + Icarus boards
Both show 23.1 to 23.4 watts.

With just the plugpack alone - the meter shows 1.1 Watts.

I wouldn't say the plugpacks are 'hot' - but they're warmer than various other plugpacks I have running switches etc.

Dwolla Caught in Legal Feud with Bitcoin Exchange TradeHill for $2 Million

Kit Dotson
2012-03-06

http://siliconangle.com/blog/2012/03/06/dwolla-caught-in-legal-feud-with-tradehill-for-2-million-bitcoin/

While it’s obvious from the Bitcoin community that indeed Dwolla suddenly became chargeback happy—and did so in a manner that caused surprise and harm to exchanges—the biggest exchange in themarketMt.Gox still uses them as a payment network. Initially, Mt. Gox cofounder Mark Karpeles says that the chargebacks simply “disappeared” from the history; but later Mt.Gox and Dwolla managed better communication about charges and chargebacks
1387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: FPGA development board "Icarus" - 3rd batch payment start. on: March 07, 2012, 04:27:26 AM
I suspect the plug pack supplied is wasting quite a bit of power.. at least when run on a 240V supply - it gets quite warm.
My power meter is showing 23.3W.

I have a high efficiency supply on order, so I'll see if that makes a difference.

Does a user on this forum have to defraud another forum user in order to earn the 'scammer' badge?
It'd be nice if mods would stretch to tagging this guy for self-admitted ongoing fraudulent activity.

If he has no qualms about stealing from his employer - he'll likely have no qualms about stealing from other bitcoiners whenever he thinks he can get away with it.

Dwolla Put Us Out of Business, Bitcoin Exchange Says in Suit

Jeremy Quittner
2012-03-06

http://www.americanbanker.com/issues/177_45/tradehill-dwolla-bitcoin-exchange-digital-currency-lawsuit-1047273-1.html

In February American Banker asked Jordan Lampe, Dwolla's chief executive, whether his company was the unidentified payment processor that Kenna, in the earlier blog post, claimed had removed $100,000 from TradeHill's account "without notice."

In response, Lampe wrote in a Feb. 17 email, "We operate legally under a very defined set of laws and regulations [and]…we can't/won't comment on individual accounts, past or present. We are extremely focused on our financial institution products right now."

I just got this running with Icarus on Windows 7.. nice!
Bitcoin donated.

Is there a proper way to shut down MPBM? I've just been killing the command window as things like ctrl-c ctrl-z don't seem to have any effect.

1392  Economy / Economics / Re: How big is Bitcoin's presence in China? on: March 04, 2012, 11:23:50 AM
I was speaking to a young guy in china who just spent 1 month in jail - for having a completely non-political text chat with someone in Tibet.
I tend to believe it - from my chats with this Chinese guy - he's pretty apathetic about politics. (though perhaps one 'has' to appear disinterested in politics there to stay out of trouble??)

The person he was chatting to happened to be a member of some group the government doesn't like.

The government just needs to lock a few people up like that for a 'short' time - with no recourse, no appeal - and the message gets out about what not to do.
With consequences like that for ordinary Chinese - who would risk running a bitcoin program if the government tells them not to?  Very few I'd guess.

When the first issue of Bitcoin Magazine gets published, is this thread going to start filling up quickly with every article we have?  Cheesy

Will it be considered a "notable source" ?   Tongue

In my opinion - it's a source from 'within the community' - so I won't be referencing individual articles from it here.
However, I'll be keeping an eye out and reporting when some other journalists/media outlets write followup pieces on Bitcoin Magazine articles or refer to the magazine.

Thousands of Bitcoins stolen in a hack on Linode

Morgan Peck
2012-03-02

http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/computing/networks/thousands-of-bitcoins-stolen-in-a-hack-on-linode

Interestingly, the price of Bitcoin, which usually tumbles on this sort of news, has stayed right around $4.6 all day. In fact, that's where it's been for over a month now, with occasional spikes up over $5. While the hack is clearly the latest set back for Bitcoin, the mellow reaction from the market could indicate that the currency is becoming more resilient as businesses prove their willingness to absorb losses.
