AntiWar.com is now accepting Bitcoin

It seems like Bitcoin is making waves all the time.
...
There’s no denying that the Bitcoin marketplace is freer than the dollar marketplace, even if it is only a fledgling economy.
...
Bitcoins are going to change the world, and one of the major changes it’s going to cause it that it’s going to be incredibly difficult for imperial powers to fund war.

Bitcoin offers what no other currency can. Access to everyone, everywhere. What this means is that right now it is possible for civilians living in Iran to donate to the anti-war movement in the US, and it is possible for civilians in the US to donate to the relief efforts in the countries the US harms. People can now cooperate across national boundaries, and there is virtually nothing that States can do to prevent it. Given that wars must be funded by taxes, national debt or currency debasement, all of which can be protected against with Bitcoin, it’s going to be increasingly difficult for imperial powers to fund their military budgets.

Bitcoin Payment and Web Hosting – Is Digital Currency an Opportunity?

A number of hosting providers already accept Bitcoin payments. On Wednesday, GigaTux announced that it would accept Bitcoin payments for services running on its Linux hosting servers in the UK and Germany.
...
In an interview with the WHIR, CubicWebs CEO Michael Dance says that accepting Bitcoins is sort of an experiment as he is still learning about the digital currency.
“Not a lot of hosts use it so you’re opening yourself into a new market,” Dance says. “I liked the idea of it and anyone can use it just by using the Internet.”
By offering Bitcoins, Dance hopes CubicWebs can open itself up to a new customer base, and differentiate from other web hosts that may not accept Bitcoins.

While the number of hosting customers that want to pay using Bitcoins may be minimal, there is not a lot of risk for a hosting provider to offer it as an option, alongside traditional payments like PayPal.

Services like Paysius convert customer Bitcoin payments into USD, or merchants can opt to keep the Bitcoins. Paysius promises lower fees than conventional credit card, PayPal or bank transfer systems

New ways to make cash from the virtual currency

The virtual currency Bitcoin has lost traction recently but now those who are mining the coins have turned to custom built chips to do it.
...
Then there were a few digital heists and Bitcoin was forgotten.
...

What is more strange is that the Bitcoin economy is still not based on actual business transactions. Wordpress is one of the few major brands that accepts Bitcoins. It is possible to buy stuff but only through the Bitcoin community.

"MIT Technology Review looks at the small companies attempting to build dedicated chips for mining Bitcoins. Several are claiming they will start selling hardware based on their chips early in 2013, with the technology expected to force many small time miners to give up. However, as happened in the CPU industry, miners may soon be caught in an expensive arms race that pushes development of faster and faster chips."

Ugh...  and I thought genjix's approach in spruiking the 'subversiveness' of Bitcoin to London financial types was bad,
now we're going to associate yet more heavily with the conspiracy-nutters too?

Things were looking up with wordpress adoption and the work of bitpay, bitinstant, paymium etc giving a 'businesslike' impression...
infowars etc is the wrong emphasis for me, but Ah well - I guess (hope?) Bitcoin is already big enough to handle it all.

For me the next interesting price milestone is $17.

At that point, we can well and truly put that awful Wired article "The Rise and Fall of Bitcoin" behind us.
The one that stated:
"... but the damage had been done; the bitcoin never got back above $17."

Q On your website you have compiled a list of the newspapers which have put up paywalls. How do you feel about them?

I’m against them, but not because of paying. Every paywall is an identification wall and that I will not go along with. I don’t do e-commerce. I wouldn’t mind paying if I could pay anonymously – maybe Bitcoin is a solution – but I won’t buy things in a way that identifies me, like with a credit card. I don’t mind paying for a paper copy of a magazine but I’ll pay with cash. However on the internet there’s no way to pay with cash.
