major flashback to the +/- 5 dollar days. <- edit for clarity: referring to the 4 or 5 months where we were stuck at 5 bucks, give or take.

I think about this when people start getting bored after slowness for 2 days in a row. These people would never have survived that period.

Pro Tip: "literally" does not mean "i really really mean it, like seriously"

I actually looked it up at m-w.com and discovered, to my horror, that one of the accepted meanings of "literally" is now "not literally"

Welcome to the idiocracy...
I think I'm going to go ahead and claim that I am forking my reality from everyone else's. In my reality,  to ease communication (which coincidentally is the purpose of words), "literally" and "virtually" will keep its proper definition and not mean "one thing plus its opposite."

Not sure if this is completely resolved or still developing for other transactons, but kinda interesting...

...
NOTE: Dinosaurs are used only for descriptive purposes in the above charts because I was not able to ascertain whether their use for technical analysis and prediction has been patented by the user who first applied them for such purposes.  Hopefully the issue can be resolved and more advanced rpietila reptilians will appear in future issues.

LOL. thank you, sir.

Fuck... now I have to unignore him.  *sigh*

A foggy cloud around us is threatening thunderstorms. It smells of freedom and misty rain, and it is soaking us wet, slowly and incessantly. 666.66, the infernal joke over and over, like a loop in a time machine. In the distance you can hear the dampened sound of a far away train...

TRAIN!!!

However Jorge are using Universal time? or South American?

I believe he's in the Jurassic time zone.

Hardly ideal when your trying to buy a pizza...

I had this happen around the holidays once.

did you withdraw from an online wallet?

I believe I paid from Coinbase which I've since read has this problem (sometimes when paying BitPay invoices apparently, but this could all be speculative). On the other hand, another purchase via Coinbase was undoubtedly the fastest I've ever had processed. I've tried using Blockchain.info via phone but that seems to be even slower than my average payment from Coinbase.

I haven't quite had enough transactions to come to a personal consensus on any of this just yet. A month before Xmas (black friday) I did have a lot of transactions via Coinbase (to BitPay invoice) and they mostly went fine until BitPay apparently started bogging down toward end of that day. So up until my timed-out $1000 transaction I was feeling really good about using Bitcoin for purchases.

I was complaining to CampBX on chat about their lack of volume. They responded "We don't think we have low volume." I pulled all my BTC out an hour later. F@!$%ng amateurs.
Why would you complain about that? Clearly its a tiny exchange.

I'm sure they uncorked some champagne and had a helluva party when BJ left.

Hardly ideal when your trying to buy a pizza...

I had this happen around the holidays once.

Did gyft try and help you out or did they just fob you off to bitpay?

Gyft took care of it and refunded.

Hardly ideal when your trying to buy a pizza...

I had this happen around the holidays once. I had already made quite a few purchases with no issues. Weeks later I tried to make a large purchase at Gyft and it timed out. It was kinda scary. "Did I just lose $1000?" I contacted Gyft and they replied quickly however it took a few days to get refunded. So, loss for Gyft (in that they lost my business since I didn't rebuy), loss for me (since I was trying to get Gyft's extra % discount only available for 24 hours).

It definitely made me wonder how practical it was. It certainly made me realize it couldn't be "the currency of the internet" if it had this many problems being used on the internet. I hold out hope the tools to use it will improve.

Yes, and charts with dinosaurs.

I would consider unignoring him if he provided dinosaur charts.

China on the move again. For the Americans here, China is a country in Asia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China

Thx. I was going to google it but I kept misspelling Chaina.

I think it's more about general education tbh. We don't have Vanuatu in news here ever but I've heard for it and know where it is.
Your colleges and specialized education is top notch but stuff below that is way below par in most of other parts of the World.
And then there is that - we don't give a shit about anything that is out of America so we don't have to know about it (unless there's oil there :p)

Pretty much right on target. We also have a "no child left behind" policy which penalizes schools when children fail. So, of course, what do schools do? Pass each child no matter what. Failure? No such thing.

If you were as rigorous about objectivity as you are quick to jump to straw man arguments I think you'd find people treated your research as the purely academic work that you claim it to be and would, accordingly be a good deal more respectful and less personal in their rebuttals.

bingo.

But that would mean getting the horse out of the stable, riding it down to the library and searching through through the card index to determine which vellum covered tome to consult to find the definition. And he doesn't even have any quills sharpened to take notes.

Just when you thought you might have seen it all, you meet a Luddite professor with a computer science degree. It's these little surprises that keep life interesting.

* Finally, when someone tries to convince others to buy lottery tickets, by telling them that it is a good investment, when his motive is actually to make a profit out of their "investment" -- then that guy is a scammer, and should go to jail.

Time to arrest everyone in the United States except for the 6 states which do not have a lottery.

guys...what do u think how safe is that u have fiat for longer time on bitfinex ?

It's been fine for me so far but I expect to lose everything on there at some point via some sort of Goxxing. My only goal is to double what I have on there then pull out my original deposit before the event. But it's going slowly because I don't trade heavily.

I feel is pietila and his team trying to manipulate when the market's not ready.

I'm waiting for "the team's" Bitcoins to be stored on a laptop in an unattended hotel sauna. Another accident is bound to happen, immediately followed by another vacation of a couple months. It really is awful (and beautiful in a weird way) to see the pattern repeated over and over in different ways, and how there is an endless supply of folks willing to be taken.

Loose "investment" formula:
1) gain some reputation, deservedly or not
2) gain a following by manufacturing (or simply promising) a high return in some fashion
3) have followers entrust BTC with you
4) claim theft, incompetence, etc.
5) engender sympathy (sometimes 4 and 5 are coupled) OR assume another identity
6) start again at #1 or #2 in 6-12 months. I imagine this phase may be shrinking.
