Justcoin is shutting down

I got an email saying trading closes October 29th and to also withdrawal your funds by November 11th.

Make sure to withdrawal your funds before it closes!

Luckily, I managed to sell my fiat balances quickly. Waiting for the withdrawals to be processed...

I have been suspended! I can't withdraw them! What sort of joke is this?

I think they had other problems on their mind than dealing with your suspension. The e-mail said their bank wanted to shut them down and they couldn't find another bank in Norway that would accept a digital currency business.
I still trust these guys. I wish they didn't quit but continued as a cryptocoin-only exchange.

I think an alias system would be important to make the wallet user-friendly for people who aren't used to cryptocoins.
That's something you'll want to implement before launching a major publicity campaign.
Munne University is just a website, or am I missing something?

BTW, I invested after you gave good answers to my questions. Since I have a day job, I liked the long ICO period.

Another question: why are you hiring a PR firm rather than an advertising agency?
I think an advertising agency would be better at reaching a big audience quickly. PR firms tend to specialize in influencing journalists and politicians.

And is the firm you've chosen in the top or bottom half of the O'Dwyer list?
I'm afraid you're going to hire a big-money firm that will treat you like muppets because you'll only be a small account for them.

I like the attention to marketing. But you seem to be better at creating awesome graphics than at inventing distinctive names.
I hope users will start referring to MNE as Emeny.

It’s pronounce “mune” (not like “money”).

Now I still don't know how it's pronounced, since English spelling/pronunciation is pretty random. Do you have a video where the name is pronounced? Can you write it in an unambiguous script, e.g. International Phonetic Alphabet, Spanish, Hungarian, Turkish?

Quote
BUT our browser game, is only part of our project. Remember, Munne is not just the browser game, Munne-Project is not even mentioned in the roadmap

If you don't want people to confuse the game and the currency, maybe the game should have another name than 'the Munne Project', e.g. simply 'The Munne Game'.
25  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Justcoin · Secure Bitcoin Exchange from Norway (BTC/EUR/USD) on: October 12, 2014, 01:11:45 PM
Justcoin must add email confirmation feature when we log in from different IP, about a week ago i logged in to my account and there's one trade i didn't recognize, i am lucky i have only few coins.

Have you enabled two-factor authentication?
Justcoin uses Google Authenticator (I'd prefer Authy).
26  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Justcoin · Secure Bitcoin Exchange from Norway (BTC/EUR/USD) on: October 12, 2014, 01:08:03 PM
This is the message Justcoin sent to users yesterday:

Quote
Dear Justcoin user,
You are receiving this email because you have a balance of XRP at Justcoin. XRP deposits, withdrawals and trading have been disabled for the last three days. This is an explanation of what has happened and what the status is.
A network-wide weakness in how both Ripple and Stellar communicated transactions was exploited by an unknown third-party to to deposit false IOUs through Ripple/Stellar to Justcoin. These were consequently withdrawn to their own payment networks as native currencies. The result was that our hotwallets were emptied. Most of our customers' funds is in cold storage but the amounts were still significant. Justcoin will not operate as a fractional reserve and therefore we decided to lock down all services affected until we had a solution ready.
Justcoin cannot and will not accept taking the responsibility for this weakness in the network. It is caused by a feature that is poorly documented and has been present in both Ripple and Stellar for a long time. Other gateways, exchanges and native transaction explorers have also been affected. There is also documented that the security vulnerability has been known by the network developers for at least 2 months without any kind of explicit and direct warning to affected gateways and other services. A thorough and technical explanation of the weakness can be read here: https://medium.com/@abrkn/partial-payments-ripple-stellar-vulnerability-in-the-wild-29aaefd8a7ac.
The result is that as of now there will be imposed a partial 'hold' on all XRP balances. This hold will be representing the amount of XRP that is missing. Deposits will be disabled until we are 100% confident that we are no longer affected by this weakness or any other yet undiscovered. Deposits that have been made between the shutdown and now will be credited in full once deposits are opened. Trading and withdrawal of the XRP that is not on hold is now enabled. Please allow delays on withdrawals due to moving of funds from cold storage to hot wallet. The percentage of each XRP balance that is on partial hold is 23.27%.
We can assure you that it is our intention that the partial holds will be lifted. We are looking at different options and are having a dialogue with Ripple Labs and Stellar foundation. We will try to figure out a way to solve this, one way or another. Expect regular updates.
We are terribly sorry for the situation but are asking for your understanding and patience. If you have any questions that are not answered here please don't hesitate to ask. Allow some time for us to answer as our support is under high pressure at this time.
Sincerely,
Klaus Bugge Lund from Justcoin

tl;dr they're blaming Ripple and applying a 23% haircut on XRP deposits (supposed to be temporary)
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Fastcoin - FST - The Fastest coin so far in the market - is launched!! on: July 17, 2014, 10:42:18 AM
I think Fastcoin has a future because of the name and the concept - if the developer manages to recruit a more active development and marketing team (I'm not volunteering).

SmartPirate brought up a good point earlier about the logo not showing up well.  And I always notice a new logo on CoinWarz.  If anyone has an idea to improve or change our logo please post it here.  If someone here is handy with photoshop we could use your help!

OK, I made it more noticeable - 30 seconds work in Paint  Grin

29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EFL] Electronic Gulden - NEWSPAPERS! BUY/SELL NOW FOR EURO on: April 04, 2014, 09:41:24 PM
As one of the haters, I have to say: maybe I was wrong. Maybe you don't need to be well-prepared to launch a successful altcoin. It might just be enough to have plenty of energy and optimism, while learning from criticism. I wish all college students had the same mentality.

I like the new distribution method and I will be claiming my coins. As a Dutchman, I can't bear the thought of missing out on free money.  Cheesy
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [CONTEST] Win .5 BTC (IPO) by suggest us a good coin name for the Munich Project on: April 02, 2014, 10:13:43 PM
What about Pfenning?

1/100 of Mark Smiley

Cute, but not distinctive enough. Maybe it should be the Non-Standard Difficulty Adjusting Pfennig (NSDAP).

Just kidding, that would be another kind of Munich Project Wink
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [CONTEST] Win .5 BTC (IPO) by suggest us a good coin name for the Munich Project on: April 02, 2014, 12:48:19 AM
When picking the name, don't forget that it should sound appealing. Bitcoin was genius in its choice of name, as it represented its nature in a simple way. On the other hand, it wasn't cheap at the same time: The name for a currency, that is. I suggest picking a name that hints at the nature of the coin, without sounding cheap or misleading, a plain and simple choice, a name that people would actually speak out and not feel weird about, especially when they are not really involved in crypto at all and just want to use it as a matter of payment.

This is why I would suggest names such as E-Fiat, E-Money, Bitfiat, Cryptofiat or similar. You should get the idea. You don't need an ending like "-coin". You don't want a name that you have to explain in more than one sentence.

Your reasoning is excellent, but your examples are awful. Cryptocurrencies are not fiat money at all, 'fiat' is not a word used by the general public, and 'E-Money' sounds too much like emunie and existing fiat money services such as eMoney in Georgia.
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [CONTEST] Win .5 BTC (IPO) by suggest us a good coin name for the Munich Project on: April 02, 2014, 12:41:27 AM
Let me suggest EvoCoin (EVO) - because I think the most defining characteristic is the "evolutive n-factor depending on the power of the network". But when explaining the meaning, I'd use 'evolving' rather than 'evolutive', which is a rather difficult word.

Edit: EVO will be easy to recognize because the abbreviation is almost the same as the name.

Please add Fastcoin (FST), because fast confirmations are the most important reason to use altcoins rather than bitcoin. And it's already accepted by many merchants.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Fastcoin - FST - The Fastest coin so far in the market - is launched!! on: April 01, 2014, 11:45:59 PM
Added for voting at c-cex.com exchange: https://c-cex.com/index.html?id=vote

Fastcoin is now #6 at C-CEX, with 1 coin added every 3 days, so if some more people chip in, it will be listed soon.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EFL] Electronic Gulden - DUTCH CRYPTO - DISTRIBUTION STARTED! on: March 31, 2014, 09:53:11 AM
Translation of ElectronicGulden's comment on fok.nl: "My name is Eduard and I cooperate with a group of Dutch developers who are very interested in the invention and innovation behind cryptocurrencies. We prefer to remain anonymous, since we're sitting on top of a fortune of 50% and the Electronic Gulden may get a push on the exchanges and the marketcap may grow above $1,000,000 (and that will happen sooner than you expect)".
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange on: March 30, 2014, 11:26:21 PM
Good to see you're back online. I'll be a good sport and withdraw only half of my funds.

It looks like the site is overwhelmed by traffic. For some pairs, e.g. DOGE/LTC, ANC/BTC and LKY/BTC, sell orders that are significantly lower than the top buy orders are not being executed.

Solarion is right: people are getting screwed because orders are being filled at prices that are way below or above current market prices. OTOH, that wasn't unusual on CoinEX anyway.  I'm not complaining. Ironically, it's the Russians that are sleeping at the moment. Smiley
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EFL] Electronic Gulden - the Netherlands [EXCHANGE!!!!]] on: March 21, 2014, 02:12:07 PM
What a crappy launch! If you're going to make a premined country coin, at least make sure to:
1. Drum up public support in the country before launching. If you only market your coin to miners, it will be dumped and become a 1 satoshi coin before the general public hears anything about it. EFL is already dead in the water, which will make it harder to launch a serious Dutch coin.
2. Figure out how you're going to distribute the premine before launching, and make it transparent that you're really going to distribute everything.
3. Announce it before launching.

Quote
This has to be done using our "Verified Proof of Residence" system (e.g., 2 utility bills no more than 3 months old).

Regmann is right: most Dutch people don't get monthly utility bills. I don't think the devs are foreigners, I think they're clueless scrypt kiddies who never had to pay a bill in their life. If they're mining at home, they're going to soil their pants when their parents get the yearly settlement from the electricity company.  Grin

Another question for the FAQ: if EFL happens to become popular by a weird stroke of luck, how are you going to check 1 million applications by looking at copies of bills?

11% ?

Yes, that includes bicurious people (but not LGBT people who are in denial). Source linked to on the Gay Coin website: "nearly 25.6 million Americans (11%) acknowledge at least some same-sex sexual attraction."

Such coin! Very wow.

N00b question: is there any point in CPU mining Slothcoin using a regular desktop pc?
I tried solomining with the QT client, and I got the following stats:

Interesting! I guess they're going to get a lot of phone calls tomorrow. Don't call the second number, that's his fax Smiley

One more thing - linking real person "with access" with exchange isn't good, until we know that it was scam.

Good point, but Erundook never was anonymous. That's another reason why I don't believe he set out to embezzle our coins. Either he got overwhelmed by running the exchange in his spare time, or he has already been threatened by criminals who noticed how much money he managed. Let's hope that's not what happened.
