21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: October 09, 2014, 02:32:55 PM
Hey all sorry for the Block Explorer not syncing.  I can't get any connections to the gridcoin daemon since upgrading to the latest version.  Please let me know if you have any other addnodes other then the supernode.
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GRE] GreenCoin | Merged Mining implemented on: October 02, 2014, 08:20:44 PM

We know. It's a timing issue that we are working on. Since they are a single block off it seems odd.

what do you mean a single block off ?
hashes are completely different for all blocks found on p2pool comparing to explorer

We essentially need to figure out who is on the right chain if there are different hashes for the same block.  I know when I did the update, we removed the entire chain and rebuilt it from scratch using the node 152.7.70.147 that was provided here as the guaranteed node.

btw, we do run a faucet for Greencoin as well and I haven't heard from anyone stating that they are not getting their coins.

That said, with the new version I am experiencing some real slowness with the daemon and occasional hangs.  This daemon only out of several that run on our server.

24  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: [ANN] AdBit.co - Advertising platform, better than clicks/views! on: September 19, 2014, 02:41:23 AM
Hey Carlos, I was wondering if you might be able to add a feature to allow publishers to ban specific sites from advertising on our spaces.  Though it would lead to less BTC for me, I would like the ability to ban known scam sites from advertising to my users.  There seem to be a LOT of them and simply deleting them does not block them from re-advertising on my site.  Trying to keep the best interest of my users in mind and not lead them to lost BTC.

Only thing I could suggest for those that have been scammed is to report them to their hosting provider to have them shutdown.  From the whois, it appears to be OVH located in France.  You could try emailing abuse@ovh.com and report their site.  This information was obtained from betterwhois.com at the following link.

27  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [SCAM] https://golden-cows.com NOT PAYING ANY MORE! on: August 21, 2014, 04:36:59 PM
I have unfortunately referred 500+ users to this site.  They have not had any withdrawals in 5+ days but still do accept deposits, constant issues with the website and database, disabled chat a few days ago because people were questioning their actions, and they do not respond to any support emails.  I have done absolutely nothing wrong with these people and tried to log in today to find that my account is now Suspended with no indication why.  I have not posted any negative comments about them until now because I had thought they had good intentions.  I've sent a couple support requests over the past few days just asking for an update on their "withdrawal fixes" they state they are working on.

All in all, I feel bad for supporting this site and referring people to them, needless to say I will not be promoting them again unless they start getting their act together and start processing payouts, start responding to support, and show that they can be trusted.  Until that time, all traces of this site have been removed from our site.

I would recommend and hope that anyone else referring people to them will stop promoting Golden Cows as well until they start showing some support and allow withdrawals from their site.  I think it's pretty shady to accept deposits with no way of withdrawing.

BEWARE, DO NOT DEPOSIT ANYTHING TO THEM UNTIL THEY ALLOW WITHDRAWALS AGAIN!

Site will be up in a few hours!

Code:
./etc/cron.hourly/databaseBackup
Code:
#!/bin/bash
DATE=$(date +"%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S")
mysqldump -u DB_USER -pPASSWORD DB_NAME | gzip -9 > /tmp/$DATE.sql.gz
./root/Dropbox-Uploader/dropbox_uploader.sh upload /tmp/$DATE.sql.gz /
rm /tmp/$DATE.sql.gz

Upload it somewhere else as well!

(just to be safe).
It's also locally, and I'll look into Amazon S3 as well.

Congrats Carlos, great work.  I've brought back one of my AD publisher spots for CryptoBlox.

If your looking for hosting alternatives I would recommend OVH.com.  I used to use DigitalOcean as well, but switched over to OVH about 2 months ago and would never go back.  Didn't have any serious issues with DigitalOcean, but OVH is one of the largest VPS and Physical serving hosts in the world and since switching I have noticed a huge upgrade in quality and performance.  If you purchase a VPS you can add on daily VEEAM backups that will provide you a full server restore for the past 14 days.  It's an image snapshot essentially.  That combined with proper database backups should give you a lot of options for quick and easy recovery.

All in all I did lose some BTC but I'm glad you got things back up and running and hope that your clients will eventually all return.

http://www.cryptoblox.com/faucets/BitCoin/

How often does this pay out? Is it one of those faucets where you have to use it a hundred times before it will pay anything out?

Hi thrax, thanks for your question and sorry for the late response.

The faucet pays out every drip to a service called MicroWallet.org.  This is used by the majority of Bitcoin faucets and only requires your actual BitCoin Address.  It will pay out when your MicroWallet balance gets to at least 0.00005825 BTC.  This payout threshold is adjustable as well.  There is no signup required, you can go to microwallet.org and put your BitCoin address in to see your current balance and any payouts that have occurred.  Even if you do not visit the microwallet site at all if you don't want to, it will still accumulate and send your BTC to you when the default threshold is reached.

It's a great service that provides all of us the ability to run these BitCoin faucets.  Without it, you would either have the site itself bank the faucet payouts until a certain threshold is reached or weekly payouts or something along those lines due to the transaction fees that are applied to BTC.  There are often considerably higher then the actual faucet payouts.

Hope that helps and as you can see it won't take hundreds of times to reach 0.00005825 BTC.  Especially if your doing multiple faucets at the same time.  (See our list of other faucets to quickly earn more BTC)

Hey John, great work.  Love the project!

I'm looking for some guidance on creating a SQL query to display a top 100 richlist for each coin that I have been using Abe for.  Looking at the code I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around obtaining the information and also converting hashes to addresses all at the same time.  Does anyone have some examples they might share with me to grab the top 100 addresses descending by total balance?
