At 940/325 I get about 396 Mh/s (phoenix 1.5, phatk 2.2, Catalyst 11.6, SDK 2.1, Linux 64-bit). As always, SDK 2.4 and SDK 2.5 are 2 Mh/s slower than SDK 2.1 and Catalyst 11.7 makes my system unusuable (all of which I think are Linux peculiarities). Other than this on only two occasions were people claiming of hash-rates for a given clock on a 5850 that were simply out of my reach and two of them were using Catalyst 11.4 (in both cases they were about 7 Mh/s faster per 5850). I tried Catalyst 11.4 but experienced no speed boost so perhaps this is a Windows thing or perhaps there are several different 'Catalyst 11.4's.
I also don't run at this speed typically though because of the increased heat, power consumption, and noise. My cores are at 847 MHz and 899 MHz right now.
Yea I cant test 11.4 because I have 5 cards so I'm stuck with 11.7 or later. I might try downgrading my sdk to 2.1 and see what happens.

That is what the meter tells me something like 696 just enough under to say it is and yes quality single rail 1000w is way more than enough overkill in fact.
I'm running at 1030/350 and it isn't overkill for that high of an overclock. It all depends on how high the guy wants to push the overclock.

You will probably have better luck parting these out individually. I don't think people are mass buying miners atm so the majority of people would only require one.

Seems a bit expensive considering you can pick up 95% of that stuff today for a lot less. The only thing you have going for you is the fact that 5830's have not been available for awhile. I might be wrong but the cost brand new for what you listed (excluding the 5830's) is ~$559. That means your charging around 185 per 5830 which is horrible. You'd be better off buying the 6870 (the exact same card that requires less power) for $150 right now and they are available.

I actually own 4 5830's and a kilowatt meter. Heavily overclocked 330+ megahash per sec the rig only pulls 880 watts. If you get a really good gold certified psu you'll be fine with 1000W. If you have a crappy psu you might need to lower the oc a little.
I have four of them in a couple of rigs and run them at 900/300 my meter tells me less than 700w, am using a Corsair 850tx version 2 with the rigs works perfectly fine for them. That seems a bit low even for a low oc. That's with 4 5830's? Either way it just shows 1000W is safe for any level of overclock.

anywhere from 920-940 /300 @1050 voltage, fans from 60-75%. depends on the rig they're in. hashing from 380-401
This sounds like a very good setup to me! Perhaps I misunderstood but it sounds like you can get over 400 MH/s from a 5850 at 940/300? May I ask which OS/Catalyst/SDK/kernel? I'm also curious what Mh/J you're getting. I can do 940/325 I just don't because I can't stand the heat blowing on me. At that oc I get ~395. I'm using pheonix 1.5, phatk kernel 2.2, 11.7 , 2.5 sdk and win 7 32 bit I'm curious where he gets the extra 5 from.

Mike, I've got the same cards from same place as you. No issues with setting them to 300 mem. use AOCLBF: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=10264.0to overclock. I think I recommened this to you quite a while back on one of your prior posts where you put up a bounty for solving msi afterburner issue you had. also, I'm actually running them at 300 and slightly under-volted @ 1050 without any issues. hope this helps you. With a mix of trixx and 11.7 I am running them at 920/325 now. Thanks for trying to help though What's your megahash speed and clock/mem speed?

no thanks you guys would still doubt me
Lets be honest you posted a picture that you could have found on the web. If you post a pic with your name it will be clear that you have these 6990's. The fact that your not willing to do escrow or show pics with your user name is extremely suspicious and shows no one should trust you. Why is it that big of a deal to show a pic with your username unless your a scammer?

I got a question about the 6870 vs 5830. They are basically the exact same card except the 6870 requires less power. Since a 6870 needs less power to run at the same speeds as a 5830 would that mean a 6870 is more stable at the 1000+ mhz core clock mark then a 5830? The reason I ask is because I'm curious if the 6870 got the same attention the 5830 did would it exceed the 5830's record speeds?

I was looking at the 6850 on mining hardware comparison and it doesn't look like the 6850 has any updated data. Does any one have one that they are mining with? If some ones actually mining with it what speeds can you get?

People need to realize they shouldn't trust people with 10-20 posts. Most likely the person who is going to scam you is a new person to this forum. This isn't always the case but more times then not your safer with someone who has been here for a few months.

Lets be honest if you are investing in bitcoins you shouldn't be looking at the short term price. If you don't think the price will be up in a couple months then stop mining completely your basically wasting your time but if you think the price will go up eventually why not get a head start? Because it might be cheaper just to buy some bitcoins? It's safer to invest in hardware so you have a backup if you're wrong. Plus eventually you'll have more bitcoins then you could have if you invested in bitcoins directly. If you argue you can keep selling high buying low thats way more risk then I feel comfortable with.

I'm tempted to start a thread "Who's running 5830's and getting less than 300 Mhash"
By reading this board, I think there'd be just one post in the thread!
But actually I'm sure there are some others out there. The card's stock settings are 250 Mhash/s and if you have the wrong motherboard (or cooling situation, climate, etc.) the 1st card in the system can get very hot.
I have 1 Asusrock motherboard (the rest were all sent back defective) that has the 2 PCI-E slots very close together. Turns out there's a much better mobo for $10 more that has *much* better placement of the PCI-E slots, plus it's a better board.
Anyhow, unless you're running Windows, it's also difficult to mess with the card's voltage. All my cards are stock voltage. I'm running Linux.
With the phatk 2.2 update I'm pretty sure stock would be a lot higher. What you point out about picking the wrong mobo is the users fault not the cards. Also I never have touched any of the voltages on any of my cards and I can still achieve the high speeds I get.
