61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Antminer s17e found block when solo ckpool mining but no transaction to wallet on: April 01, 2024, 04:44:03 PM
@ NotFuzzyWarm,
I'm new to solomining, and I just made a google-search for a btc solomining pool. Didn't check out this forum or ck solo pool thread before after I saw my miner stated foundblocks. The miner appear strange, now for example it says that it found 15 blocks... So I guess the miner itself is no good, or I've been misunderstanding the FoundBlocks field under Miner Status - Summary.
Do you have a suggestion for another solo mining pool that is good?

Best regards,
Øyvind Kordal

Some thoughts.

1) Does your hashrate at the pool look correct?

2) What do you have for your failover pool? Is something causing it to go to the secondary pool that may not be BTC but a lower difficulty ALT?

3) Is this the stock firmware or some hacked / modded one?

4) Did you check for a virus: https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/900004391106-Treatment-Method-for-ANTMINER-Anti-virus

1) I'll take one

2) The 9 of hearts is upside down in this image: https://imgur.com/ApPDc3M My OCD is now triggered.
2a) Why not use talkimg.com

3) What USD price point are you looking at the BTC.0006286 can vary a lot between now and then (hopefully up)

Gold gilt and/or custom boxes, tins, or other special features are doable, but would raise the cost per deck.

4) Is all of that on a case by case basis or do you have a general idea of options / cost.

63  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pending justice for SBF on: March 31, 2024, 08:59:49 PM

The court verdict for SBF has already been made, and the nuances of American justice are of no interest to most readers.
Am I the only one who wonders what will happen to the Gary Potter fan(Caroline Ellison) and other participants in the fraudulent scheme, or will SBF be responsible for everything alone?

What an awesome story?  Cry

The 1st to flip gets the best deal. The 2nd to flip gets a slightly worse one. What # in line was she to turn on him?
He will probably do 80% of the time so 20 years. A part of the problem is the lack of laws regarding this. The FRAUD was easy to come up with an amount of time.
The other side of running a scam exchange, the laws are murky there so.

As many lawyers have said, you don't go to court with the case you want you go with the case you have. The US system is based on innocent until PROVEN guilty.
From what I understand, the books were such a mess PROVING guilt was going to be difficult on some things. Knowing and proving are 2 different things.

64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone set up shop in crypto friendly EL SALVADOR? on: March 31, 2024, 08:10:39 PM
1) Depends on the exchange. Most are in the $1000s of dollars some are more, a couple are less. But, it needs to be a 'real' coin most will not touch something that you just threw together.

2) El Salvador is *not* crypto friendly. It is BTC friendly. Last I heard (summer 2023) there was not a lot of traction for other coins there. Things might have chnaged.

March is coming to an end, is there anything new?
Do you still plan to make the coin or not?
It's funny some of you still think paypal penny is going to come through... the guy owes well over 100k in loans and gold... if these coins are made before others are made whole it would be ridiculous!

As with anything we don't know the full story. Just what we can see here.
And without knowing all numbers don't mean a thing.

I could bust my a$$ and probably get a $100k debt paid off in a couple of years.
My neighbor could probably do it by the end of next quarter.

Does Chris have a "real" job and this was a side hustle that got away from him.
Did he loose his "real" job and needed to take from here and is now working again trying to get caught up.
And so on.

We don't know what we don't know, and can only see what is posted (and we don't even know if that is the truth just what people post)

Waiting in limbo for a product that you paid for sucks. <--That we do know.

66  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: broke my avalon controller and can't find cgminer anywhere on: March 31, 2024, 05:50:35 PM

they are working but im only getting 20 TH/s with three of them going. I was getting upwards of 40 with the setup that was on there prior to my breaking it. and yes i live in central washington where the electricity is 2.8 cents/kwh.

UPDATE:

well i effed around with overclocking and burned out a couple of my power supplies. now i only have one of my miners running but its getting a good hashrate considering how old it is. . Sad

$0.028 KWh I'm jealous.

Tough call as to buy new power supplies with the 1/2ing coming.
If you can reuse them on something else after might be worth getting a couple.
If you can't you will never ROI them.

I don't know if you can sell the units themselves. Considering you can get a new very quiet 4TH (ish) 160Watt miner with a power supply for $130+ shipping selling something that does 11TH (ish) but needs 1200 watts and has fans that are loud is going to take a while. People may want them because those old miners were just about indestructible and were fun to tinker so you do have that as a possibility.

Personally if I had the space I would keep them to tinker with.

Regarding the firmware: If the miner FW and software versions are different the miner GUI will still work fine but the miners either do not show up on the LuCl cgminer status tab or if they do show they have zero stats. You can use the upgrade miner button to apply a different firmware .mcs file

Use the openWrT software image from April 2018 and the April 2018 MM firmware (or the March 2018 ones if you want).

i just did the bare minimum configuration according to that guide. fingers crossed

Did it work?

If not post the log file so we have a bit more info to give you advice.

Also take a look here: https://www.zeusbtc.com/articles/asic-miner-troubleshooting/1653-how-to-troubleshoot-and-repair-avalon-721-741-761-821-and-841

With what you have posted so far it's a bit difficult to dig into it.

Side note, unless you have free or just about free power as in below $0.04 / kwh you are loosing money running these.

Not to derail the thought but when using some of the places on bestchange make sure you verify their exchange rates vs. what else is out there.

Some are WAY bad. I took a hit early this year when I dumped some ETC at 20% below market because I was not paying attention. All the other coins on that exchnage were within 1% or 2% of what they should have been. And I missed that. My fault, and had it been for more then a couple of hundred dollars I would have been really pissed. So, keep your eyes on the price.

69  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: broke my avalon controller and can't find cgminer anywhere on: March 30, 2024, 10:05:09 AM
Did you make sure the firmware in the miner is the same as firmware you are now running on your controller?

One thing to keep in mind is that the miner firmware (.mcs file) version MUST match the OpenWrT software version. If I can find them I'll DM you for mailing address.

Do you remember the version you were running before?

What does it say in your log? Any errors or other information?

70  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Have 2 USB miners and they work great in 30-60min then no more? on: March 29, 2024, 09:08:38 PM
Are they giving any errors or just not mining.
Sounds like either a USB power supply that can't keep up or the devices thermal throttling.
Do you have a fan that you can point towards them to keep them cool to test.

71  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: broke my avalon controller and can't find cgminer anywhere on: March 29, 2024, 08:50:54 PM
Did you look here: https://download.canaan-creative.com/avalon821/openwrt/
It has the full firmware for the RPi which is what the avalon controller is.
Depending on what version of the controller it may be a Pi 1 or 2 or 3

But you should be able to flash a new SD card and be fine.

The link to the only releases you should download are: https://github.com/cculianu/Fulcrum/releases
Don't know if that site is legit or not at the moment. The developer has not mentioned it on his github page: https://github.com/cculianu/Fulcrum?tab=readme-ov-file

A link discussing it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5441463.0

I did run it for a while and it does work well. But with all the other nodes I have, running a dedicated machine for just that just seemed like a waste. Will probably spin another one up sooner or later to see if anything has changed.

73  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Using an USB stick to store the blockchain. on: March 29, 2024, 11:18:49 AM
I did a post a while ago about doing things like this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5399730.

Yes you can run core and store the blockchain on limited low power hardware.
But, unless you want it more for a learning experience then for actually doing things then it's just not worth it.

You just spent money on a drive that was according to the eBay seller

Quote
Our new branded products sourced from clearance, returns and insurance write-offs.

So now you have to figure out was it returned with issue? Is it a counterfeit? Did it come out of a batch that failed QC and was written off by insurance? And so on.

You can get a 12th gen N100 mini PC with 16GB of ram for under £175, it comes with a 500GB m.2 that you can repurpose and then get a NEW 1TB m.2 for under £90

And it will work great. I have setup several nodes on this and similar hardware. YES, you need a keyboard, and mouse and monitor but only to set it up after that you just have to SSH into it to do things.

The right tool for the job you need to do.

74  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Pseudo(?) self-custodial LN wallets on: March 28, 2024, 11:58:57 AM
It is easily fixed with either a CPFP OR bumping the fee if RBF is enabled (which it should) OR using a TX accelerator.

So it's not the end of world.

Did they share the TXID?

Makes you wonder what happened to cause the issue.

-Dave
Channel closing transactions are usually beyond the user's control in mobile LN wallets. So, it's impossible to initiate RBF.

For CPFP, you must control one of the receiving addresses. But Blitz wallet is based on BreezSDK/Greenlight. In this architecture, the addresses which receive the outputs of channel closing transactions are not controlled by users. The user whose channel is closed must order a "refund" after the closure. Thus, CPFP is impossible, too.

A TX accelerator may help. But one needs to know the TXID for it. And wallets may provide users with wrong TXIDs. At least, Green wallet, after the closure of my channel, gave me the TXID which cannot be found in mempool.space. I knew the TX which had opened the channel, so I managed to find the actual closing TX. But it was possible only because I opened the channel myself. Usually such wallets (Green, Relai, Blitz etc) open the channels when users top-up their wallets via LN invoices. In this case, users don't know the actual TXID of their opening transaction, and it may be hard to allocate the closing one.

Sorry, I was pointing out that Blitz could do it, not that the person with the issue could. Did not make myself clear.
As, you pointed out they could possibly do #3 if they had the TXID but that's about it.

The issue can be handled / solved. It's not like the BTC went to an unknown address or something like that.

If Blitz chooses not to help their user that's their choice. But, then people can choose not to use them if issues like this keep coming up.

75  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Pseudo(?) self-custodial LN wallets on: March 27, 2024, 11:12:57 PM
A user of Blitz wallet shared how after closing the channel to the LSP, the balance of his wallet became zero. It turned out that the closing transaction was broadcasted to the network with a fee of 2 sat/vB and was subsequently dropped from the provider's mempool. Now the provider (and consequently, the wallet application) cannot see the funds either on the Lightning Network or on the base layer, indicating that they simply don't exist.

Of course, if the mempool ever clears, the provider will eventually see the transaction, and it will appear in the wallet. Nevertheless, this story suggests that calling such storage non-custodial when you don't control the fee isn't entirely accurate. Due to incorrectly set fees by the application, you could lose access to your funds for a long time.

It is easily fixed with either a CPFP OR bumping the fee if RBF is enabled (which it should) OR using a TX accelerator.

So it's not the end of world.

76  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Prefork wallet restorastion? on: March 27, 2024, 09:15:54 PM
1) Send some real BTC to that address and then move all the real BTC with the dust off to a new address.
There's no need to send Bitcoin to the old address. Bitcoin can be moved without any of the Forks replaying the transaction.

Are you sure? I was under the impression that even now 6 years later that TXs involving only pre-forked coins can still move the coins on the other chains.

Didn't pay that much attention then and still don't but I thought the forks did not implement replay protection which was causing issues.

-Dave
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Prefork wallet restorastion? on: March 27, 2024, 01:44:05 PM
I would do it differently. But that's just me.

1) Send some real BTC to that address and then move all the real BTC with the dust off to a new address. The forks should not follow since that transaction would not be valid on their chains.

2) Now you can add shitcoin fork dust to the original address and move those forks. This way if something goes wrong, you don't have to worry about loosing your BTC since it's already elsewhere.

78  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Rant-Hardware Wallet Physical Quality on: March 27, 2024, 01:39:59 PM
My guess is that you are just unlucky or you break them intentionally to complain about it on Bitcointalk. Grin

Am I the only one here who hasn't experienced any devastating issues with the hardware wallets I own? My Nano S is still working fine. I am talking about the physical device itself, before anyone mentions the data leaks. One thing I have noticed is that LL isn't displaying the correct balance for my crypto anymore, but that's because I haven't updated it in months, ever since I first heard about the Ledger Recover vulnerability.

My Trezor One is also working as it should. My only complain is the weird mouse issue that prevents me to work the Trezor Suite with my mouse connected to my laptop. But I am sure it's a compatibility issue with this mouse model. I am also not a fan of the small characters on the screen when confirming transaction data.

I am planning to add a third device to my personal portfolio soon - a signing device.

As I posted above I have 2 older devices that still work fine. (keepkey and ColdCard Mk1) but as I get more and play and use them the new ones just seem to be less well made.

So a bit of a rant here, but has the physical quality of all HW wallets crap. Or is it just me?

Two trezors with bad USB ports
From all hardware wallets I heard minimal complains for Trezor devices, only issue I have with them is short USB cable.

And wait for it....the only one that I kind of killed myself was an old Keystone that when we moved offices I didn't remember where I put it and it (1) sat in freezing temperatures for a couple of weeks and then (2) wound up bouncing off a cement floor when it fell out of the box it was in since I didn't remember putting in in there. So now that one does not turn on either. But that I will put on me. I thought it was in the lockbox but I must have put it in box with other collectables when moving for some reason.
Why didn't you talk with Keystone support?
They should send you refund or new Keystone3 device.

I know of one other person who had the same USB issue with their Trezor, so it's not just me. But, I don't pay attention to the Trazor stuff that much.

Wanted to try a couple of things with the Keystone before taking it apart. I don't NEED another device, and would like to see how well the self destruct works on this one.
It was not that much $ since I got it as a black Friday sale.

79  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Recommended wallets on bitcoin.org on: March 27, 2024, 11:11:20 AM
Yes bitcoin.org is legit.
BUT, and this is just me talking, I would not trust their recommendations for anything.

A while ago lukejr suffered a hacking event / hack: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432665.0

On the bitcoinknots page that he maintains there WAS actually a warning that the downloads may be compromised. It's not there anymore but for a while it said

Quote
This server may be compromised at present. Do not blindly trust downloads - always verify both the SHA256 hash and the OpenPGP signatures match. Luke Dashjr's OpenPGP key is likely to be compromised, so his signatures have been removed and replaced with other developers' signatures. There is no evidence of a tampered download ever having been offered, but if you have downloaded Bitcoin Knots after 2022 December 1st, it is recommended you re-verify the files you previously downloaded to be sure.

At NO TIME did the maintainer of the bitcoin.org site put up a warning.
1 line of text was all that was needed. But NOPE they didn't.

If they can't do that, then why trust them with other recommendations.

80  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin withstand attacks by state-level agents? on: March 26, 2024, 02:07:43 PM
Computationally, not easily or simply or cheaply.
Other ways, very easily. There have been bans and other things with crypto over the years, but nothing ever harshly enforced.
If tomorrow morning some government passed an outright ban and long jail times for using, trading, having or doing anything with crypto it would be a lot more effective then trying to shut it down another way.
If other countries / governments joined that cause then it could happen.

But if they did that, then they could not tax it. And no government wants to give up tax money.
