This is a blockchain type of game so cryptos are involved here and when there are cryptos, people have the ability to earn them. It can be by playing the game, staking, or mining inside it. I've seen some blockchain/play-to-earn games before which have all the features that I mentioned above but the only problem about them is that they are hard to understand or not user-friendly in other words so you are right when you say that a proper beginner's guide is important. It's normal to have a low player count if the project is a starter but it will grow as long as it's being marketed well and all the great features are already there. Real plan of white paper and road map should be the main concern and then when you think that you have it already, that's when you plan for your marketing.
The typical marketing is that you show how the game works, the good graphics, the close up shots and angles. That will be interesting to the eyes of the audience and will make us play it more because of the way it looks inside the game.

Usually people get hooked out on the time that they could earn some free coins if they do play out a particular game and if its play to earn then it wouldnt be that a challenged on hooking players but if its something ends up on the category of being pay-to-win just like some other games then results would be different.When it comes to marketing then stick with the usual ways and of course budget allocation is really just included on that ofcourse. Sorry i cant able to search it up since when i do google it there are lots of results. the point is that this is really a game of trust and tokenomics is not yet open to ordinary users and early explorers. That's the thing I'm struggling with, I actually want to put in more money. But I just can't afford to, I want to maximize on the buying opportunities but I know that's the FOMO creeping in, and I'll just have to stay patient.
Since you are thinking of a long-term investment, I will suggest you diversify your portfolio but Bitcoin should be your major concentration because if you buy now that the price is down, you will be able to make a profit when the price is up again but remember no one can predict when the bear will end so your investment should not be done with all you have got so you don't end up not making gain and lossng your capital. Always invest with the amount you can afford to lose, good luck.
