Im considering buying monero.  However, what is the absolute highest price you guys think monero can hit?  Its already over 200 dollars.  Does anyone here think 2k or 5k is possible?  The fact that its a privacy coin and talked about alot should mean a lot right?

I think the price could be between 0.1 to 0.2 bitcoin. So it will be around 1000 to 2000 dollars.

I believe that should be expected for 2019-2020. Lets hope in 2021 will already be more.

That's a very bullish sentiment but yet still believable. Quite the difference since if you had said that 3 years ago, you would be accused of smoking some strong crack.

So the thoughts of 2014 is over! 2018 is gonna be yyyuuuuge.

I dont think the possibility of 2018 to be new 2014 is over. I personally would love for Bitcoin to hang around $10k and Monero around $300 for next half year. Just so all those newcomers that joined crypto to make fast profit sell. and All other newcomers that joined crypto to learn something have time to actually learn something. And that they have some time to accumulate something before next leg up.

But this are just my hopes, nothing to do with reality.

Seems like a good time to accumulate. How many others are accumulating?
I'm accumulating too but don't have that much to spend unfortunately.

How would people rank XMR in terms of development as compared to BTC at the same age? i.e. since XMR is coming up on 4 years, how does it rank compared to BTC when BTC was going onto year 4?

Well, the pros here have proved their worth again.
Will momentum carry the market lower? There's not even a dead cat bounce.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 16, 2018, 09:54:04 PM
Question now is, when is a good time to buy back into XMR? Is is going to drop more? Who here thinks BTC will fall below $10,000?

As far as I'm concerned, it has to. What else is going to drag XMR down to $230 where it needs to be?

why does it need to be at 230 ?

So the fear can set in, the trolls can come out, and the cycle can repeat.

Very interesting point. I guess we'll see in the coming weeks.

although i did not jet sold 1 xmr , it is kinda scarry to see how fast it goes down... i really believe it will go back up again but on the other hand , we can go a lot lower ... 1000 by the summer , i dont know in this sentiment if we will get there...

Don't know when the magical $1000 mark will come but nothing can escape the pull of BTC as it's going down.
Can the pros weigh in? Has XMR ever gained in a bear market?

How many here are still investing in XMR?
I remember when BTC was at $500 after it crashed from $1000 and was thinking that it was "too expensive" to invest. Boy was a wrong.

Is $400 XMR "too expensive" or is it still a bargain?

Not sure why people ask these questions about if somethings still cheap or expensive, in essence asking whether it will go up or down

No one.. NO ONE knows anything about which way this market will go up/down/sideways otherwise they would be multi millionaires and probable billionaires.

Do your own research and invest accordingly ....

Well this is the speculation thread. You speculate about the price. This is basically the watering hole where "traders" talk up or down the prices

No talking is going to affect the price.  Those moving the price, are not talking.

I agree with this sentiment, although who here remembers BCX/BitcoinEXpress.

I personally will sell every XMR I have (which I dont Smiley)

Allow me to tremble at the thought! (but I won't Smiley)

And by the way... If Monero were worth $8000 per coin it would still not be valued as highly by market cap as ETH.  So it can rise a lot before that is even a remote possibility.

How do people here compare XMR to ETH (obviously they are different platforms focusing on different things)? ETH has major backing but do the highly informed here think XMR has potential to rival it?
ETH is a centralized, mutable, unscalable, non-fungible corporate backed cyber-kitteh platform.  It has nothing whatsoever to do with cryptocurrency, or currency at all.

XMR is a grass-roots, community funded, decentralized, immutable, permissionless, fungible money.

Not sure how or why one might compare them.  XMR is money.  ETH is an incorrect answer to a question that will never be asked.

What to make of the vast discrepancy between the prices? Why the high valuation in ETH if it is not useful at all? Crypto is very strange indeed.

Are people still interested in this project? Why?
Is it because of the eventual blockchain bloat that other coins will face?

If you look at the coin features, that is not the only innovation that it brings. Plus, 4 years of running with a customised blockchain is a proof that the original project and ideas were very good!

i agree, this has to be the most undervalued crypto in existence.

Then it must be a good investment opportunity ;-)

Just seems weird that XCN is highly unique, yet I bet not even 1% of the current peeps in crypto (especially the new ones coming in since BTC went to the moon) has even an idea it exists.

How does the main daemon and cli work? I don't know very much c++ so when I read the source it's all a blur to me.
Can someone please compile the main functions called in the daemon and cli into dll? I would like to just experiment with calling these functions in another language but don't know where to start.

$500 by Feb 1 possible?
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 12, 2018, 03:10:57 PM
You know how screwed up the market is when an absolute scam like Dash is over $1000 yet it is also out of the Top 10.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 08, 2018, 11:18:21 PM
As long as XMR (and the whole market) is linked to BTC, don't think we will see $777 anytime in the first half of 2018.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 07, 2018, 12:22:27 AM
A nice little pump going on...
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 06, 2018, 06:57:56 PM
$400 seems to be the new baseline. How long XMR hovers around this price?

Hello everyone,

I'm a long term holder and lurker on this thread.

I also got involved when Risto first mentioned it as a good investment. It looked like it was my chance after missing out on BTC.

Thanks to the people in this thread I've been holding all the way until last summer when a life circumstance meant I had to sell a single digit %.

It felt strange to sell but I have to remind myself to follow the simple saving plan also set out by Risto, to sell a % as it increases.

Like I said my hand was forced last summer but now I'm getting close to where I really should divest in case of some black swan event and I'm left with nothing.

Anyone else have mixed feelings about selling after holding for a long time.

I'm about there with you, all in Monero for several years. But people who talk about a lot and I think shit I have 3.5 times that I really have no exit strategy exactly. I think that's the worry.

I'm the same. I bought in at .43c and have held ever since. I think a big part of the problem is greed - whatever price it is is never enough. I always want more - how crazy is that? The fact is - and my wife and I were talking about just this last night - I could sell everything now and live very comfortably for the rest of my life. I'd never be able to buy a penthouse apartment in NYC, but so what? But I'm scared that I would't be able to forgive myself if the price went crazy. I wonder if those people who sold BTC at $400 regretted doing so even though they were comfortably off?

But the other side of the coin is that I'm not sure I want to deal with the swings in price, the trolls and the competition from the shit coins anymore. It's wearying, it's mood-altering, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it.

I'm getting on - how much money do I need? Do any of us need?

I am also in around 40cents, I feel the same way. Although I need a few more pumps to feel comfortable , specially with 30 procent taxes on the gains... but my bigges fear is to sell now and miss out the big pump ( if it happens ).
I just see Monero as the true coin for privacy.

Nice, some of you got in nice and early (and cheap!). Let me guess, most of you are between a Dolphin (10 000+ XMR) and a Tuna (500+ XMR) according to the scale previously listed.

Yes, the struggle is between holding for more and selling to realize immediate profit (insert lambo meme). There are definitely people that sold BTC at $400 because they thought $10,000 was unattainable in their lifetime. But if you can see XMR going to say $2,000 or even $5,000 (being conservative since some of the more outspoken XMR bulls have said even higher numbers), while even just 1 year ago the thought of $500 was considered a fools dream, you should definitely hold out for more.
