1  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Extremely long engine initialization, v 0.95.1 on: December 02, 2016, 10:23:46 PM
Sigh. Thank you for continuing to maintain Armory, hadn't realized the tribulations.

Sorry to hear your tale of woe, Mine is far simpler.

Life happens, been busy, haven't touched BTC in about 12 months. Consolidating coin. Forgot about Armory wallet with big pile of coin in it. Start Armory 0.91, too old, needs bitcoin/etc updates, Update, hangs/crashes repeatedly. Backup wallet (digital, unencrypted), remove all traces of Armory, install fresh, import wallet, have repeated troubles with 0.95.1 taking forever to start, like others in this thread. Failing to start at all, like others in the thread, but I've been trying for a week..

.. and here we are.

What is the address chain length on your wallets? Did you restore them from a paper backup before syncing 0.95? Try extending the address chain in offline mode before rescanning. Also, what is the top block displayed in the bottom right?

Been all over the client, in expert mode, can't find the "address chain length", either where to change it, or extend it.

I do see a decent amount of "-ERROR - 1480706621: (..\BitcoinP2P.cpp:865) caught BitcoinP2P_Exception in processDataStackThread: invalid header size" in the ArmoryDB console however. I'll work on getting you logs. Pastebin ok?

Block count in lower right corner is: {will update once we're not OFFLINE again from restarting the client to get to expert mode}

1) Please don't hijack somebody else's thread, create your own and post your log files.

People providing data about about the same problem isn't a hijack, it's an attempt to help find a solution to a problem.

2) There is a difference between allocated memory (malloc) and mapped files (mmap). The usage figures show you total RAM load, but the distinction is significant: allocated memory belongs to the process while mapped files boils down to hinting the OS that you want these files cached in RAM for faster access. Mapped memory does not prevent new allocations, it simply uses otherwise free resources to speed up I/O.

You are correct, I misread it.. it hammers the machine so hard it -acts- like it's completely out of ram and into swap.

3) This is an open source project, feel free to submit code if you have a better solution, or at least participate to the testing phases and provide constructive feedback and bug tracking.

True.

I hope you understand peoples frustration here...a product, free or not, they've been using, has become, for whatever reason, impossible to use, monopolizing their machines, and most importantly, holding their BTC hostage.

Speaking of which, after another over-night run, the client finally appears happy and caught up, except all the wallets have zero balance. Rescan gave zero change.

help?
3  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Extremely long engine initialization, v 0.95.1 on: December 02, 2016, 08:40:27 AM

Been having a hell of a time the last week trying to get Armory to start.. Same symptoms, taken the same steps as others, still haven't been able to get it ever "complete" so I could move coins around.

FWIW, even with the suggested command line switches, ArmoryDB still uses 100% of the system RAM within 60 seconds.

Running on a 8 core 32G machine, all SSD.. shouldn't be this bad.

Running Bitcoin-QT/BitcoinD on their own, just fine, current and up to date on the block count.
ArmoryDB.exe --db-type=DB_BARE --ram-usage=1 == ram flatlined, sits on Organizing Chain a *LONG* time.. have waited a couple times then it's building TX -- FOREVER.

Once I get my coins out, I'm not -ever- running Armory again. To have to dedicate 2x the blockchain size just to run the client is unreasonable. 200G of SSD, 8 cores 32G to run a wallet?

I agree that you can't trust anyone but I wish I know how to stole a card...

So many things wrong here...  Huh

Sadly, it's very easy to buy card data. Turning stolen cards into cash is not easy, but people still try.. like buying amazon gift cards and selling them for bitcoin... or buying MSDN subscriptions and selling keys.

6  Economy / Digital goods / Re: ♠♠♠♠ AMAZON GIFT CARDS ♠♠♠♠ 100$ FOR 75$ !!! on: June 02, 2015, 11:30:35 PM

Honestly, I won't buy Amazon gift cards for BTC any more, without a 45 day escrow.. .Nobody else should either.

We've been burned too many times by Amazon removing the card value from my account 25-30-35 days later when the seller turned out to have used a stolen card to buy the Gift card he sold you.

Pity, because I loved getting 10%/20%/etc off..

So now I use purse.io and avoid the gift cards.

7  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] (30) Antminer S3's, in original boxes, ebay listing on: May 27, 2015, 08:14:07 PM
Realized I hadn't created a post here for them, so here goes..ebay auction found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121660010613

-------------------

(Price Reduced, all miners must go! - Currently $99 buy-it-now)

We lost our lease, so it's time to sell.

It's been a good run, but our landlord is moving, and the power costs in his new location are 3x... So it's time to hand off these great miners to someone with cheaper power. Our loss, your gain.

These Bitmain Antminer S3's have been used in a temperature controlled, filtered-air environment, which means unlike some of the other miners for sale on Ebay, these have a lot of life left in them. They'll be packed in the original boxes, and as a bonus, will include PCI-E 8 Pin to Dual 8, adapters, which allow you to run each miner on (2) 8-pin power connectors, instead of 4. This is also a safer way to run the miners, than just connecting (2) of the (4) power connectors.

The official specs for the S3 are listed below, but anyone who has owned the S3's knows each individual miner is different. Because your environment may not match the 65' datacenter these S3's were run in, I can make no guarantees as to performance or overclocking. Each S3 has been restored to factory default settings, and latest firmware, and will work right out of the box. YMMV.

Please note: This auction does not include a power supply. You will need to supply your own. I've had tremendous luck with both the EVGA 1300W and the Silverstone 1350W, each powering (3) miners.

Shipping Costs: I'd love to offer free shipping, but shipping costs have gone up a lot in the last year, and these are odd-shaped, 5lb boxes. That means normal ground shipping will be around $15 per box for most US addresses.

---------------------------

Feel free to use the buy-it-now off ebay, or send me an offer.. Happy to accept Bitcoin as well.

9  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: December 31, 2014, 02:55:03 AM

Long time user of purse.io, love the site, but I don't understand the new discount/fee structure.

Example: A wishlist with a retail total of : $854.75

10% discount : Purse fee: $8.55 - Total Savings $75.93, USD $777.82 (true discount 9%)
20% discount : Purse fee: $16.65 - Total Savings $154.30 - USD $700.45 (true discount 18%)
30% discount : Purse fee: $32.43 - Total Savings $224.00 - USD $630.75 (true discount 26%)
40% discount : Purse fee: $63.16 - Total Savings $278.74 - USD $576.01 (true discount 33%)
50% discount : Purse fee: $123.01 - Total Savings $304.37 - USD $550.38 (true discount 36%)

Purse.io increases its fee, making the resultant discount not at all what it lists.. the 50% discount is actually a 36% discount... I'm all for them making a fee, but the ramp I don't understand...

10  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Amazon $50 Gift-card 80% on: December 10, 2014, 02:47:18 AM
I send first tho so scamming is a clear-cut never appearing scenario. And my uncle has won major leagues in hunting

Sending first doesn't matter with Amazon since these cards can be charged back even after someone redeems them successfully!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

the only way you should buy amazon gift cards is with a 60-day escrow..

I am selling 53,629 Southwest Airline Points and can transfer it to your southwest airline account. I require an established and trusted member or a escrow service. I will send first with these options.

Points can be redeemed for ~$532 worth of gift cards or they advertise 2 roundtrip flights.

I am looking for 1 BTC OBO

Still interested in this trade?
15  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: September 16, 2014, 11:16:23 PM
hmm, I think I'll cancel my gift card orders on purse.io :/

I would. Immediately. Purse.io is not taking any active steps to prevent this fraud.

I still don't see anything on the Purse website warning against (or prohibiting) the purchase of gift cards. If they knew of this problem at "X" date, then beyond that point I'm starting to think they bear some responsibility.

I absolutely agree. I've reached out to purse.io and encouraged them to block gift card sales, or escrow them for longer (30-60 days), and their response was "don't buy giftcards".

16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 10, 2014, 03:32:15 PM
I don't have the build environment to create a full binary image, and the code will need a LOT of work to actually become part of mainline cgminer it seems, but for the time being here is a link to a bugfixed binary of cgminer 4.6.0 for the S3 based on the bitmain code. Copy the file into /usr/bin/ on the S3 overwriting the existing one:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer

Couple of days of running under 4.6.0 now, and very happy. CPU load lower, and less hashrate variance.

I have bricked a S3 with an improperly downloaded frimware upgrade,  does anyone know if there is a way to reflash the firmware or to do a hard reset (holding reset button did not work) without being able to access the GUI?

RMA

Pull the board, return it.

wait.

18  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: September 10, 2014, 12:52:20 AM
Have you gotten any response at all from Amazon? Despite repeated submissions to their customer service I've gotten NOTHING on why they canceled the cards in my own account. All I have is the feedback from my Ebay buyer, in which Amazon tersely said there was a problem with the original purchaser's account, of an unspecified nature. I'll try calling them next and see if that gets me anywhere.

I've contacted Amazon several times, including today.. Their response is to "Contact the seller, or have them contact us so we can resolve the issue"

EDIT: Contacted Amazon again today. No progress.  They've named to me, both gift card buyers, but that doesn't help. They've indicated both accounts are suspended, pending requests for information from the account holders. Amazon will hold the funds as 'revoked' until they hear from the buyers.. which will likely never happen at this point.

We're still screwed. Everybody, including purse.io, gets their money, except us.

19  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: September 09, 2014, 05:55:24 AM
I'm still trying to get clarification. The Ebay buyer in question straightforwardly responded to me that the card I sent them was initially accepted by Amazon, and it was only 10 days later that it was canceled. But Amazon has not been forthcoming as to why they have canceled at least 3 of my cards plus this other one. I've asked them again about it tonight.

UPDATE As noted above in my Update 2, Amazon appears to be the problem and not the Ebay buyer. Amazon is refusing to explain why they are cancelling their card, and I expect the same response to my own. They are handling this very poorly. Total value of the cards that I have paid for and believe to be at risk (or already canceled) are over $950.

4. Fraud.
We will have the right to close customer accounts and bill alternative forms of payment if a fraudulently obtained Gift Card is redeemed and/or used to make purchases on Amazon.com or any of its affiliated websites set forth above.

So we get left holding the bag.

20  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Purse.io - Bitcoin Amazon Marketplace - Save ~10-25% on Amazon Wishlist on: September 09, 2014, 05:48:12 AM
WARNING: AVOID AMAZON GIFT CARDS on PURSE.IO

If the "BUYER" uses fraudulant means to pay for your gift card, and Amazon processes the claim, they can and will cancel your gift card WELL after you've released escrow. They will remove the credit from your account, and if you have no gift-card balance, they will charge your credit-card on file. At this time (August 2014) Purse.io has no protection against this type of event, and no remedy in place to return your coin.

........ and now I know Amazon can cancel them OVER 30 days out.. I logged into Amazon today to buy birthday presents, and .....  giftcard balance at $0. Turns out a card I bought even earlier, and thought was OK, got yanked as well.

Quote

.
August 1, 2014   Gift card claim (claim code xxxx-xxxxxx-VEMK)   $500.00

Purse.io really needs to do something about canceled gift cards. Easy answer would be refuse to list gift-cards for sale.. harder answer would be to require 45 day hold (or more?) on Escrow for gift card sales.

...so steamed... and scrambling for upcoming birthdays now!!
