601  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are Bitcoiners Neoliberals? on: October 24, 2014, 05:27:43 PM

Another way to look at it is a dramatic expansion of the black market (System D), and the increase in economic freedom that comes along with it.

Where do you come up with the claim that the black market is expanding dramatically?  That sounds like the people who keep claiming Bitcoin is expanding "exponentially."
Bitcoin is only a tiny fraction of the black market. The black market is considered a subset of the informal economy, of which 1.8 billion people worldwide are employed. Market revenue is estimated to be 1829 billion $.  The bitcoin market cap has not reached such sizes.
602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best cold storage (digital) found? 1000 year lifespan dvd's and blu ray on: October 24, 2014, 04:09:18 PM
Well there is an vulnerability with USB drives as we have found out and disc only have a lifespan of about ten years.

Although I saw something today that might just be the best for digital storage of a wallet.

mdisc

http://www.mdisc.com/

1000 year rated dvd's where the files are written to "stone" and it will play in most drives where as the blue ray disc will play in all, better yet they aren't that expensive.

They are more durable then regular disc and can take a beating but just still can't be bent in half without snapping, there isn't much more you can ask for in a long term disc. This seems to be perfect for people wanting to people their wallet data or private keys on a disc.

You could write your private key on a piece of paper, this can last longer than ten years.  The private key is not that large so you do not need an entire disc to store it.
A private key is 256bits long and 256 really is not that large and you could even convert it to a shorter hexadecimal number of 64 characters.  Wink
603  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto - The Creator of BTC on: October 24, 2014, 03:54:34 PM
Weird how he don't want to show his self , he will simply be rich & famous .  Cry
If he shows himself he will not be famous but poor. You cannot own thousands of BTC and simply walk the streets without anonymity.
Unless you are the owner of Mt Gx, Mark Karpales....  Roll Eyes

whether the creator has billions of bitcoin?
or he is already rich of bitcoin?

There will only be about 21 million bitcoin in total, and so no one can have billions of bitcoin.

I read some posts here that estimated he has mined around 1 million bitcoin, but he has only touched 50 btc.
How do you know that tho?

For the 21 million part, block reward starts at 50 btc and will be halved (and be rounded down to the nearest satoshi) every 210000 blocks.

For the satoshi's wealth part, please take a look at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=548508.0;all

21 million is an interesting choice. 21 is not a traditional computational number (2,4,8,16,32).
The 21 million actually derive from a few educated guesses:
- 10 minutes between blocks
- 50 BTC per block
- 4 years between block reward halving

The 4 years were rounded down to 210.000 blocks.

Keep in mind that "a Bitcoin" doesn't exist in any real sense in the code. Satoshi exists:  .00000001 BTC.

604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MUSEUM IN ORLANDO, FL on: October 24, 2014, 03:40:12 PM
Interesting idea...I don't think it is a good one though, I think you will end up losing a lot of money if you rent a place out.  When are you thinking of actually doing this?
It could be profitable if the market is big enough. At the moment it may be a small market but you could increase that market by including related concepts such as cryptography and computer networks. An online 'virtual visit' for a number of bitcoins could be included to reach a larger market.
605  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want GPG key ? on: October 24, 2014, 03:35:11 PM
I am new here and first of all want security of my account so how can I got my GPG key any help or link will be appreciated

GnuPG is a hybrid encryption software program in that it uses a combination of conventional symmetric-key cryptography for speed, and public-key cryptography for ease of secure key exchange. You can use GPG to encrypt data.

606  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyway for a newbie to purchase bitcoin with paypal? on: October 24, 2014, 03:29:29 PM
I've been on this forum for while (not registered) and just looking at other people's forum but is there any way for someone without any reputation to purchase btc? I know everyone's scared of chargebacks but what if an escrow of some sort is used? If there is please post below.
Paypal has previously blocked accounts of (bitcoin) users. But, you could buy using an escrow service. The risk is losing your money and your bitcoins, even if an escort escrow is used. Localbitcoins or an exchange is more safe.
607  Economy / Economics / Re: How can a centralised exchange prove they won't run away with your money? on: October 24, 2014, 03:21:21 PM
How can they prove that? I know they can somehow prove that they have money at some point. But that's still not very convincing.
They cannot prove that they will not do that, which is why something like the Mt Gox theft was possible. At best an exchange could give you control over your bitcoins by handing you your private keys. Private keys are used to initiate bitcoin transactions and could be imported into your wallet.  Exchanges are no exception to this: any centralized system can run away with your money (including banking systems). If you do not have the private keys you do not control the money.
608  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone following the ebola outbreak? on: October 24, 2014, 03:17:11 PM
Finally some good news: Nigeria and Senegal are now officially Ebola-free.

http://edition.cnn.com/2014/10/20/health/ebola-outbreak-roundup/

Nice but I don't believe it.  The definition of "Ebola free" is the lack of a reported Ebola case for three weeks.  But I bet some people are not reporting their illness (or it would not surprise me).
"Ebola free" should be read as no infected person has been registered. The virus is probably still in the area because it can survive in other mammals including apes and bats.
Another form of this virus has been found in 1976, the virus can survive for many many years in an area.

maybe it is a good idea to register some ebola related domain names
Is there a market for ebola?   Huh
609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Newbies on: October 24, 2014, 03:10:08 PM
Are newbies vital for Bitcoin Price Index rise?
No, scarcity is an big influential factor for the bitcoin price index. Bitcoins are produced during the mining process.  The reward is 25 bitcoins per block (approximately every ten minutes) until mid 2016, and then afterwards 12.5 bitcoins per block for 4 years until next halving. This halving continues until 2110-2140 when 21 million bitcoins have been issued.
Other influential factors are investors and panic buyers/sellers.
610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MUSEUM IN ORLANDO, FL on: October 24, 2014, 03:06:15 PM
Can entrance tickets be bought with bitcoin?
The coins look really good, are they still for sale?
611  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-10-24] THE SIDECHAINS BITCOIN 2.0 REVOLUTION on: October 24, 2014, 02:59:50 PM
There are a lot of positive discussion about sidechain technology recently. It wil incorporate other innovated altcoins' features into bitcoin, which will enhance the usability of bitcoin and kill the existence of altcoin. I am eager to know how it will play out.
Which features of altcoins will be incorporated? I am curious to find out.
612  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japan is officially a Bitcoin friendly country on: October 24, 2014, 02:54:09 PM
It is surprising that Japan is not more Bitcoin friendly already.

Why is all the volume and interest coming from China?

I would have expected Korea to be more ahead as well.
Korea and Japan have a very large internet culture, I would have expected they are more ahead as well. This board does have a Korean and Japanese forum. The Korean board has 599 posts and the Japanese board only 91 posts.  Chinese board has 242671 posts. Is there any reason why it is more popular in China?
613  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What is happening with our world and humanity on: October 24, 2014, 12:15:11 AM
How does it come that after the first world war, the second world war and all the other wars following didnt change us?
If your government decides to start a war tomorrow you have as much power as an ordinary citizen during world war 1. In a collective group you might achieve a temporary state of peace but even that is no guarantee.  The motivations for war are always the same: more authority/power, profits and resources. Think about that, if you are a dictator will you start a war to get less power, no profits and no resources?
614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin dust on: October 23, 2014, 10:47:48 PM
I received the princely sum of 1 satoshi from this account recently.  What is the purpose of these tiny transactions?  20000 satoshis for three such transactions to random addresses is going to add up pretty quickly, so it seems unlikely that they're intended to bloat the blockchain.
This is a bot sending spam in the transaction message. Every transaction can have a message associated with it. They randomly send a few satoshis to a collection of addresses. Perhaps other blockchain explorers can hide these dust transactions.

615  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why cloud mining is a zero sum game on: October 23, 2014, 10:40:34 PM
Starflyer, where did you buy your cloud mining contract? It is very important to use only good and reputable cloud mining providers. With some random and unknown company you can be in wrong hands. Not to mention they can scam you.

Is there a list of reputable cloud mining providers? There are so many companies these days that offer cloud mining services.
616  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-10-23] Guardian: Serial entrepreneur missing as $1.4m bitcoin is stolen on: October 23, 2014, 10:21:28 PM
British serial entrepreneur missing as $1.4m bitcoin is apparently stolen

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/oct/23/british-serial-entrepreneur-missing-bitcoin-apparently-stolen

Almost $1.5m of bitcoins formerly held by cryptocurrency exchange Moolah have gone missing, after the exchange declared bankruptcy. The cash is believed to be in the personal wallet of the company’s founder and chief executive, Alex Green, who has not been heard from since Moolah went bust.

This story is similar to Mt Gox unless he was kidnapped. If people are in control of your money they are tempted to take a run with it, be it exchanges or banks. To own a wallet is the only way to be in control of your money.  Why does the phrase contain "believe to be in the personal wallet" ? We do not need the word "believe", if we know the address we can simply look in the blockchain.
617  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Fractional Units on: October 23, 2014, 07:12:33 PM
I'm just somewhat new to Bitcoins and cryptocurrency and trying to learn everything I can. From that perspective, I'm seeing a lot of websites newer people would look at, like faucets. I think newer people to Bitcoins might dabble in those before they put their foot in and actually buy some. So my thoughts are, Bitcoins for larger amounts, and Satoshis for smaller amounts.

For example: 10,000 Satoshi or 10k Sat.

BTW: Is there a Satoshi sign like there is BTC symbol or ˘ symbol for dollars?

I like this proposition. Satoshi makes sense for small amounts, whereas it does not make sense for very large amounts . Bits is an interesting idea because it makes sense to get 'bits' when you buy bitcoin.
618  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where Can I Learn More? on: October 23, 2014, 07:03:41 PM
Guys, if someone asks me, where is the best place for a newbie to learn more about bitcoin? Bitcointalk not included. Trolls might discourage the newbie.

This is a simple getting started manual for newbies https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-for-individuals
A very basic explanation of the system is https://bitcoin.org/en/how-it-works
619  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ebola will come if airlines will not stop to fly to Africa on: October 23, 2014, 12:08:56 AM
If airlines will fly to Africa, Ebola will come everywhere  Undecided What you guys think ?

Ebola virus infection occurs only by direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a person after symptoms have developed. Body fluids that could contain ebolaviruses include saliva, mucus, vomit, feces, sweat, tears, breast milk, urine, and semen. No other infection method has been found.  The virus can spread fast but it's unlikely to infect the entire world.  Risk of death is 50% but that depends on which type of Ebola virus (it's a group). About 5000 cases have been reported in 2014, and this may be a wrong estimate, while the population size of Liberia alone is 4.092.310.   I think the virus will spread more, possibly also on other continents and eventually it will disappear.  I do not think the entire populations of countries will die, which of course is a good news story to tell but perhaps far from reality.
620  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it sketchy to ask for someones wallet address on your website? on: October 22, 2014, 11:48:48 PM
I'm going to be adding a page to my miconations website that will allow micronation enthusiasts to apply for digital citizenship. This form would require their BTC wallet address. I was wondering if there was any reason a person my not be willing to enter their address into the site. I mean you can only pay someone with their wallet address correct?
Correct, you need a wallet address to send someone a payment.  Why do you require their BTC wallet address, is the goal not that they pay you?
If a person does not want to enter their address you could arrange a meeting with paper wallet payment.
