41  Economy / Economics / Re: Bakkt is done? on: February 12, 2020, 08:12:59 PM
well, I think BAKT has been finished a long time ago because I see that there is no more development from BAKT

Development you most likely wouldn't make use of anyway, so why care?

Bottom line is that people expected moon during Bakkt's launch, but were presented the exact opposite. It's easy to trash talk a company but not do anything to make Bitcoin or the user-experience better yourself.

If we're talking about institutional products that are a flop, then it's definitely Vaneck and SolidX's Bitcoin trust; https://www.vaneck.com/institutional/bitcoin-144a/overview

The same ~64BTC has been sitting in the fund for months without a single penny in new capital, and that while the market has been super bullish for quite a while now. Too many restrictions and pretty high fees make it just not a viable instrument to gain exposure to Bitcoin.
42  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC made a move above $10k today due to this? on: February 12, 2020, 02:05:02 PM
And we can't conclude that it is manipulation either, I mean the ecosystem is growing so a simple manipulation can be spotted easily by lots of eyes here. I think this is just normal buying/scraping of Bitcoin when the price went $9700.

People calling manipulation are funny. They can't back up anything of what they claim, yet they are 1000% sure that it's manipulation. How contradicting can one be? Roll Eyes

Also, most of the manipulation callers are silent right now because of how the price is going up instead of down. They'll get back to business when we see the price go down for a couple of weeks. Those damn whales, they always want to buy lower.  Cheesy
43  Economy / Speculation / Re: Scammers move 12k BTC - dump is comming? on: February 12, 2020, 01:36:04 PM
Why would they lessen the amount that they could get?
I think they would sell it little by little so that the price of themarket wouldn't crash and they would get the highest amount that they could and they wouldn't have a hard time converting it to fiat.

They don't care about the price crashing because they got their coins for free. All they care about is getting rid of the coins and walk away with fiat. In the end, they aren't the only large holder of Bitcoin (assuming they actually hold any at this point), so there is always the risk of seeing other whales cash out and take the price down due to the thin orderbooks.

$5000 might look low today, but might be the high of next months. Reminds me of people saying how they can't believe anyone would sell under $6000 because it was super duper low..... It turned out to be high when we were approaching the $3000 level.

In the end, if there are coins to be dumped, let the scammers dump them now because of the increased demand. This way it won't hurt as much.
44  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-16] Chainalysis traced $2.8 billion crime bitcoin sent to Binance Huobi on: February 12, 2020, 09:45:41 AM
So the government authorities may hesitate to touch them.

Why would they touch them? It's an easy income source for the government, and one that's recurring as well because you know that the profits made by banks are far higher than whatever they end up paying in fines. Governments happy because they receive hundreds of millions in fines, and the banks happy because their profits are largely still there.

If governments were genuine, they would increase their fines to such degree that the profits made by banks would not only be nullified, but the bank actually loses hundreds of millions. The current system is set up strictly to enrich the government and allow high level money laundering to take place because they get a slice of the pie.
45  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-02-08] Police Shuts Down Bitcoin Mine Over Coronavirus on: February 12, 2020, 09:19:23 AM
The number of deaths are on the increase, but the number of new infections have been on the decline for the past few days. So I assume that there will be less restrictive actions from the government, especially in provinces other then Hubei.

I wouldn't really count on less restrictive actions for a while, because when you loosen the actions taken, people will automatically start to continue living their life the normal way, thus increasing the odds of new infections. China as paranoid as they are, will definitely not let that happen so they will continue their current approach as it seems to be effective.

Looking at the current hashrate, it's fairly stable so there doesn't seem to be much of an actual impact at all. As the price continues to go up, more gear will be put to work, so whatever gear ends up getting turned off, the effect will be nullified by the gear being turned on.
46  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone try social trading for cryptocurrency? on: February 11, 2020, 01:04:19 PM
One of the major platforms these platforms face was that majority of the so called "leaders" turned out to be professional hype men. During the bear market, people thought they would be on the safer side since they were following leaders who would always make the best decision at any instance.

How would Shrimpy solve this problem?

It's impossible to solve from OP's side. I have seen a lot of so called experts emerge on social media during the 2017 bull run where everything they said became reality. People legit believed that the prices could only rise because that's what happened for about a year. You could blindly throw a dart on the CMC map and that alt would yield you a few hundred % in profit.

Bear markets is where those so called experts get slaughtered. Most of them deleted their accounts on social media because they were threatened by the idiots following their forecasts.

People need to stop trying to force themselves into trading by following "experts" or stupid social media trading sites. If you don't have a basic level understanding of technical analysis and thus can't trade yourself, you shouldn't trade, period.
47  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: YouTube Binance impostor: what is happening right now? on: February 11, 2020, 10:00:25 AM
I just wonder when the hell is Google going to take action and stop these streams.

After what happened with the crypto content creators on youtube recently (channels getting striked etc) I do believe that it will take longer and longer before those streams are taken down. Crypto related videos on youtube are getting falsely reported a lot, either by scammers or competing altcoins or content creators, which means that Google has to spend time analyzing the reports manually.

If Google yet again ends up taking (but now serious) action against those scam streams in an automated fashion by their algorithm, I'm pretty sure that they will affect even the non scammy crypto content. In other words, there will only be losers.

I still think that people just need to understand that free money doesn't exist. Sending 0.1BTC to someone that promises you to send 0.5BTC back is just retarded.
48  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Transactions on Smartwatches? on: February 11, 2020, 09:34:57 AM
Another problem comes with usage though. You will only probably use the app on your smartwatch once every few months.. You don't use it everyday.

That's what I thought as well when it comes to apps on smartwatches, but it seems that I was wrong thinking so. I know a few people around me who keep interacting with their smartwatch even though I don't see why they bother wasting time on such a small screen trying to figure out the weather, price information of stocks etc, typing messages and the list goes on.

Somehow they convinced themselves that it's useful, which means that the companies behind those watches have done well marketing their product. I wouldn't buy one myself, but if people want to waste their money on those gadgets then so be it. They waste their own time and money, not mine.  Cheesy

It takes me a few seconds to pull out my smartphone and properly utilize the applications. Having a smartwatch will only form a burden to my daily use.
49  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Dominance rising again. What is happening? on: February 07, 2020, 09:31:57 PM
Look at ethereum for example, it recently broke over 200 dollars, I am sure people who have invested into eth or who are mining eth are not complaining about their situation, so the dominance rising for bitcoin didn't bothered them.

It depends on how you look at things. Eth's all time high is a bit over $1400 so that makes its current price about 85% lower than that high. If you got in cheap enough recently you are doing fairly well, but nothing too exciting. I think the frustration of people who expected Eth to be at $500 by now doesn't outweigh the gains it booked in the more recent weeks.

I think it's safe to say that the happiest (known) Eth holder today is scammer Richard Heart. People are still sending their Eth to his smart contract in exchange for poop hex tokens. You would expect that with the upcoming upgrades for Ethereum people to think twice before sending their Eth to a scammer, but nope.  Roll Eyes
50  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC restoring faith in bull run. on: February 07, 2020, 08:52:33 PM
When you talk about golden crosses you need to say which one. There are many that uses different daily averages.

That dude most likely doesn't know what he is talking about. Most people are repeating after what they read on social media. One day decending triangles are a thing, next day short squeezes, then golden crosses, etc.

People think that just because the market is starting to look more healthy that we will see an insane bull run, but that doesn't have to be the case at all. I personally think it's less likely to happen this year with how much resistance levels we have to break through in order to surpass even last year's $14,000 top.

In the end, the averages that mean something in terms of macro trend identification are the weekly moving averages. I see it happen all too often that people go by 4 hour moving averages, and some even hourly averages. Unless you're a trader those low time frame moving averages shouldn't be your focus.

Thanks for the heads up!
52  Economy / Economics / Re: Justin Sun gifted Warren Buffett bitcoin and tron on: February 07, 2020, 08:19:19 PM
Warren Buffett has been pretty stiff about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies stating that they don't bring anything new in the table. And here goes Sun together with the permabull Charlie Lee, bringing forth the table and laying down facts and god knows whatever things they discussed on that dinner. Pretty sure it's about investment matters and private dealings and not necessarily about bitcoin and crypto but who knows?

If the best we can offer is a con artist such as Justin Sun and a fairly ok dude such as Charlie Lee, then it's hard to think of a reason for Warren Buffett to like anything about this space.

Nothing fundamentally interesting about Tron. It's just one of the many knockoffs that we will see come and go in the forthcoming years. No large scale institution wants anything to do with such coin. I'm pretty sure that Warren Buffett felt like he wasted his time with those crypto hippies. The only thing of value Warren Buffett ended up with is the money Justin Sun paid for the charity lunch.

You can bring a horse to a water pool, but you can't force it to drink. Stop trying.
53  Economy / Economics / Re: Did I Miss Something?... on: February 07, 2020, 08:05:59 PM
Expect price to pull back to sub $400.

I know people are hoping for the stock to retrace that much, but I have my doubts. Technically speaking, it's severaly overbought and the major moving averages will need many months to even remotely catch up, but that doesn't mean that this stock can peak over $1000 in the coming weeks or months.

Stocks in general have no longer much to do with fundamentals and underlying revenue/profit streams with how much debt there is circulating in the market. Every recent dip in the stock market is bought up faster than Bitcoin recovers from a dip. That just shows how much money there is waiting for those dips to enter. It's usually not a good idea to bet against the trend.

It's quite funny how the sentiment in the mainstream media has changed so drastically. It was first a company that wouldn't be able to succeed, and now suddenly the stock is said to reach $5000 and higher, lol.  Cheesy
54  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best exchanges to trade BTC/EUR in Europe are...? on: February 06, 2020, 02:27:08 PM
eToro is also a great place to look if you are interested in trading bitcoin in Europe! they are the worlds leading social trading platform where you can trade without paying any markups, ticketing or management fees. There are no limits on trading volume either.

It's probably a good idea to also mention that you can't withdraw crypto from etoro. It's essentially just a CFD platform. If you're only interested in trading then it might be useful to you and some other people, but being able to withdraw crypto is an extra peace of mind in case you for whatever reason can't withdraw fiat.

I have read about their interest to offer crypto withdrawals for quite some time now, but I don't think they will go that far unless there is so much demand that it leaves them no choice but to do so.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jack Dorsey-Backed Lightning Labs Raises $10 Million on: February 06, 2020, 02:06:18 PM
if people actually stopped hyping up LN by bzzwording it beside bitcoin. yet it holds no of the unique features or benefits of bitcoin. then people would see how LN is just some commercial crap to grab peoples money for corporate profit.

You make it seem like the whole space is hyping up Lightning, which definitely isn't the case. In fact, I have seen more people on social media platforms speak out against Lightning.

I am excited about Lightning, but also acknowledge the fact that it by far can't provide the same level of security as the main chain, but that's not even the point. Lightning's main purpose is to facilitate micro payments where security isn't that much of a concern. The benefits of instant and near free payments greatly outweighs the risks people using Lightning are exposed to.

Also, Lightning is just one second layer. I'm confident that it will be one of the many in 5-10 years where people can choose what layer they use.
56  Economy / Speculation / Re: Tom Lee: bitcoin could soar nearly 200% in the next six months(new) on: February 06, 2020, 01:39:09 PM
200% price increase by the end of 2020 wouldn’t be that unlikely as it’s the halving in May. I don’t think within 6 months is likely but by New Year, for sure.

Not unlikely (hey, anything is possible in this space) but we've seen similar speculation when Litecoin was about to go through a block halving. It had a sweet pump prior to he halving, but then ended up tanking hard, also before the halving. It kept tanking after the halving while people were expecting even more pumping to happen.

Two different coins, but speculation-wise, the sentiment is quite similar. No doubt that Bitcoin will breach its prior highs eventually, but people shouldn't expect a massive bull run to take place just because of the block halving. Keep in mind that the price went up from low $3000's to now nearly $10,000.... My pre-halving pump target is $12,000 at most.
57  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is DeFi anything? on: February 04, 2020, 10:42:42 PM
I personally think DeFi will eventually rise to a point where it will basically be bank or any financial institution that poor people around the world in third world countries can take advantage of with the help of the rich people all around the world, and I don't mean rich like Bloomberg rich, I mean rich like you and me because many people in the world lives under 30 dollars a month now, DeFi is for them, not for us (at least not now).

If defi grows out to become a huge industry, I'm confident that the centralized finance industry will improve the quality of their service further and reduce the fees or in some cases offer free finance to those who really need it.

In fact, it's already happening; there are numerous countries already where you can wire money instantly and for free at any time of the day, even during holidays. I have seen those memes on Twitter where people make fun of banks being closed and that Bitcoin always works, well, banks are getting there as well. Innovation triggers more innovation. Bitcoin innovated the banking sector.

Ethereum's defi ecosystem would be even better if fees could be paid directly in stablecoins instead of Ether. I know there are certain workarounds with smart contracts, but it should be made easy for the common joes who just want to use the simplest form of money.
58  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Weekly & Monthly Update: Bulls On Parade, Majors Flying on: February 04, 2020, 10:09:44 PM
Although it is currently struggling to maintain its price for about $9,000-$94,000, the probability that it would hit $10,000 this month is great.

As long as we maintain above the 200DMA and the 21DEMA, I'm pretty confident that we will get that push to $10,300 where we will face our next big resistance. If we close below aforementioned moving averages, I'll switch to bear-mode again and prepare for another sub $8000 push, and likely much further lower.

If this is the actual start of the next bull market, we need continuation of the current momentum. Failure will be punished hard because traders will try to front run each other by selling and prepare to buy the next bounce levels. I expect a reaction from the price before friday. I hope for bullish continuation, but I'm prepared of the other scenario as well.
59  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Some exchanges accepting Lightning Network on: February 04, 2020, 09:45:34 PM
From that list I only know bitfinex but it is still good to know there are others.
It has to be pointed out that whenever you deposit Lightning Bitcoin on Bitfinex, it posts in your account as a seperate (LNX) token. That token has to be converted to Bitcoin on the wallet page and vice versa if you want to exit through Lightning. I find it a bit weird that they don't credit it as Bitcoin right away, but perhaps there is a valid (security?) reason for that I can't think of right now.

Coinbase will not stay behind, but there is no rush to the implementation of LN either.

They can bank on their first mover advantage and main fiat on/off ramp in the space for many more years to come. No exchange brought more capital into Bitcoin than Coinbase. I don't see that change at all.
It might not be that much of importance right now, but when the fees see a sharp increase, most people will look for an exchange with low withdrawal fees, which the exchanges that offer Lightning support can provide. Coinbase's fees peaked over 0.002BTC back in 2017 which is nuts. No way people will swallow that again while there are much cheaper alternatives available today.
60  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Online exchanges that will match opening deposit on: February 04, 2020, 09:07:51 PM
Bybit do currently have $60 - https://www.bybit.com/

I don't see that $60 deposit bonus. These are the deposit bonuses I see on their page;

$5 but you first have to deposit 0.05BTC
$50 but you first have to deposit 0.5BTC

https://www.bybit.com/prize_page

It's not that tempting at all, no matter how you look at it. Why would anyone risk $4500 in Bitcoin for a measly $50 deposit bonus? On top of that, according to Bybit's terms (can be found in above link) you can't withdraw that bonus at all, just the profits that you make with it.
