82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Start Using mBTC as Standard Denomination? on: May 31, 2013, 03:34:52 AM
I prefer just BTC instead of mBTC.  But hopefully some day in the future we can just use Satoshi's.

You have probably seen the video of Kirk Hope in NZ http://tvnz.co.nz/q-and-a-news/kirk-hope-bitcoin-video-5428259

He says Bitcoins went up to $300, and who would want to buy a cup of coffee for $300?

- I realise he doesn't understand, wrong facts etc, but it still goes with the theme of thinking many zero's.
85  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The True Explanation of Ripple for Bitcoiners on: May 21, 2013, 07:57:12 AM
My biggest worry is that its not open source, and they just lie saying it is.  Just blatant lies.

I can understand they do this not because of bugs, beta, etc, but because they want marketshare, and once they have it, it might be released as open source.

Fact is they don't care about open source, its just all excuses to get marketshare, and be noticed by a bank or investors.  And its working.

As for the Mt.Gox comment about everybody wanting a distributed exchange, yes, people want an open source distributed exchange, not a closed source one owned by one company.
86  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: PSA: 'Bitcoins' in Ripple are not Bitcoins. They are not real, can be seized. on: May 20, 2013, 10:14:36 AM
I'm also trying to get my head around it.  If somebody could please explain what would happen in this scenario:
1. 1000 people deposit $1AUD into Exchange A, they then move it to Ripple, and 'buy' BTC or whatever currency
2. Exchange A, now has $1000AUD in their account to maintain their IOUs for their Ripple account
3. Exchange B opens its doors, and they too have AUD, with cheap withdraw fees to AUD banks
4. Everybody sells their BTC and withdraws their money from Ripple to Exchange B
5. Everybody requests Exchange B to withdraw their funds to their bank.

So my questions are:
1. Where does Exchange B get their money to pay all the withdraws, if they have $0AUD balance?
2. Is this scenario even possible?

Their initial intentions might not be scam, but after they receive $ and realise can't deliver it will turn into one.
