Economy / Speculation / Re: Greatest Pump'n'Dump Ever
|
on: April 12, 2014, 11:47:19 PM

Tinfoil hat --- checked. Safety goggles --- checked.
I suspect a giant pump and dump is going on. Chinese officials know that they drive the market so they are now manipulating it. Once the price is tanked they allow bitcoin trading again, pumping up the price. Then they will ban bitcoin AGAIN to make it crash as it does right now. They repeat the cycle until it is profitable. At least I'd do that if I was a corrupt slant eyed politician.
I have suspicioned this for quite some time. Especially after the crash to $350, then there was suddenly news that the PBOC was NOT banning bitcoin. This all sounds very suspicious to me, and very much like there is some inside market manipulation happening.

Economy / Speculation / Re: Bottomed out?

Its actually bottomed out nicely. Anywhere in $3xx would be a good time to get on board.
Not really. really. compared with $1200, $400 is a great deal. Especially when the majority of holders think it is going back to $1000+ and possibly $10k, then $400 is a great deal.

Economy / Speculation / Re: Survey time! Was 340 the final bottom?
|

Oh sad, I cannot vote. Yes I give it a 70% chance that it was the bottom considering the price now. If the price was sitting under 400 for the past day, then I would say No, it's going lower, but since it climbed up to 420-440 and has held that range, I think it is unlikely we'll retest 340-350 (unless of course, another HUGE piece of bad news ... like Jesus Christ sells all his bitcoin, or something).

Economy / Speculation / Re: Interesting short-term price prediction

So you're predicting a large spike from the 15th to the 16th? I guess this is reasonable. I bet it won't spike on the 15th though. The traders will probably need a few days to regroup their thoughts after the exchanges officially close. For example, look at the stock market after it re-opened right after 9/11. It dropped the first day, stayed low for three days, then climbed back up. Three days is the key.

Economy / Speculation / Re: The psychology of a HODLer
|
on: April 12, 2014, 03:23:25 PM
|
When I used to trade Forex, I did it with the mindset of a hodler. The problem was that the trading company I was using didn't really like that mindset, especially when they were letting me trade with a 50:1 margin. They automatically closed all my trades once they lost over 50% of the account value. It's really to bad, because if I had held for year, then eventually my account would have gotten out of the red zone.

I thought OIL was the Gox of fiat? I still feel like I'm taking it up the ass every time I fill up my gas tank.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We already have money. Why do we need Bitcoin??

on: April 12, 2014, 07:25:18 AM

We already had windows 95, why did we need windows 98, or xp, or 7, or 8? We already had rotary telephones, why did we need touchtone phones?
Cryptocurrency is just the natural evolution of an increasing technological age. Pretty soon paper bills will be obsolete and worthless. Most people don't want to carry around a wad of bills anymore. And fiat transactions are so cumbersome and often time consuming. It often takes 5 days to do a banking transaction, even within the same country. But a bitcoin transaction is done often in a manner of hours (or sometimes only minutes).

I panic-sold all my bitcoins when the price was still around 680-700, and now I'm glad I did. But I've been buying ever since then. I cannot forsee anymore panic-sells in my personal account, but maybe some panic-buys. Like if the price dips to $350 again (or even $300), I think I'll be frantically trying to buy.

Economy / Economics / Re: STOP BUYING INTO ALT COINS , as you are indirectly hurting Bitcoin

Well, I have a question: If I choose to buy penny stocks instead of investing in Boeing or Costco, then does that hurt Costo's stocks because I'm not investing in them like I could be?
It's all a gamble. Buying bitcoin is a gamble. Buying litecoin is a gamble. Everyone is just trying to figure out the best odds of making a few bucks a year from now.

Hi! I've registered at CEX.IO some time ago and I have about 0.3GHS and it's mining very slow. So how can I get some bitcoins to buy some more GHS? Any suggestions? Also donations are very appreciated. Thank you.
Also, I suggest you don't mine on cex.io, since it is highly unprofitable and nearly impossible to break even. Do you have a cloud mining site you would recommend that one could actually make a profit from?

I'm willing to bet if you saw a penny on the ground you would not take the time to bend over and pick it up. But you might spend 5 minutes figuring out how to get that 0.00001 bitcoin into your own wallet, which only worth a fraction of a penny.

You're taking a risk storing coins online. Websites come and go frequently. Exchanges come and go. I've lost coins when exchanges have been hacked or taken offline. I wouldn't trust any paperwallet site to keep my coins for any length of time. You're always better off keeping your coins on your computer. Even with a strong exchange like bitstamp or coinbase, I trust my computer more. If Mt.Gox could fold, then any of the exchanges could fold and you could lose it all.
