1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How to restore non BTC coins or tokens from a broken ledger device? on: June 23, 2021, 09:31:39 AM
Similar with Bitcoin, you need to find wallet which support TRON (with it's token) and recovery from seed phrase. Multi-wallet such as Coinomi, Trustwallet and Atomic wallet support many popular altcoin, although all of them are closed source.
Thank you all especially you. Any recommendations for open source wallet that can be used in an offline device? Let's say I want to use usdt in trc20.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / How to restore non BTC coins or tokens from a broken ledger device? on: June 23, 2021, 07:50:51 AM
I am working on buying a ledger device but before I do that I am trying to understand as best I can about the pros and cons for it.

If I lose my device or the device become demanded for some reasons then I can easily use the 24 word seed on Electrum (in an airgapped device, computer) and restore the BTC wallet securely. But I see no article around on how to restore non BTC coins.

For example if I have usdt in Tron network. How would I restore the Tron wallet securely using the 24 hour seed phrases?

Thanks for your answer in advance.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Quantum Computing and wallet security? on: June 16, 2021, 09:23:42 AM
First of all, the more I am learning about the technology, the idea; the more I am becoming interested in it. I already have some coins in my bag. I didn't mind buying them even when they were $61K plus. I am believing in the idea and being a part of it. I still believe that I will have mining farm one day. Right now it seems a lot to learn and do for me.

When we are generating a wallet we have seed. The addresses generated against the set of the seed obviously is following a complex algorithm or we would see one address could easily found with another set of seed. I have no idea how the algorithm works and how hard it is. But this is pretty sure that the current computing system we have is not able to decode the algorithm very easily, possiblity is nearly zero. However, what about the future?

Computer industry is working on quantum computing in fact, in the next 10 to 15 years we may see perhaps thousands even millions times faster computing than the current computing system we have. With a faster computing system the current algorithm could be compromised very easily.

I am sure the developers are aware about this, I am surely not the first one who is thinking about it. I would like to know how we are progressing to face this upcoming advanced speed.
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Hash rate crash today? [2021-06-11] on: June 13, 2021, 03:39:54 AM
Does it mean the small firms even solo miners will have advantage if the big firms shuts down for any reason? Bitcoin will be more decentralised. We may have a good panic in the market if something like this really happens but eventually things will get settled.

Please correct me if I am wrong and please do not delete my post because I am genuinely interested to know if I am making sense.

Thanks

Nice to meet you Mr. OgNasty. Hopefully the next 10 years will be as exciting as it was for the first 10 years. 🥳💪
6  Economy / Reputation / Re: Stater NFT team decided to run a bounty and this is how it turned out. on: June 10, 2021, 06:23:54 PM
This is an awareness topic against the said nft. The op is not asking for any advice or such kind of things. I think giving him advice is obviously off topic. Just my two cents.

i dont expect to get payment now, Im simply putting this out here for others hunter and investors alike.

8  Economy / Reputation / Why all these fake conversations? on: May 17, 2021, 09:40:36 AM
I have been visiting the forum since a while. I like reading things that I need to help learning about bitcoin technology, tips and tricks but I am so anonyed to see everywhere users are fake, not all so please excuse me if you are not in that category.

Fake I mean when they are in a conversation they do not even read what the other person wrote just before them, they don't see what others are posting. They visit a topic then make their own posts, ask questions which are already there or they just elaborate someone else's post. Most of these people do not even add any value to their posts.

I noticed even hero, legendary members are doing this same.

It's annoying to see a topic about someone who is only few weeks inactive, it's annoying to see Elon musk related topics, it's annoying to see Roger var doing this and that and topics about it, it's annoying to see I have ranked up and now I am writing because you need inspiration, it's annoying to see bitcoin is dumping and more than 10 topics about it.

Few users are like this:
I have no idea about <subject of the topic> but I can tell you about <a made up subject that they just thought of>. I was < add 100 to 150 words explaining the subject he is comfortable to talk about>

After looking at their history you will realize that they are doing it from years. No real value provided in these long years. Just posting it like a bot everyday following a routine.

Is it really necessary?
9  Other / Meta / Re: Any URL shortener rules for sigs, avatars, or the personal text field? on: May 15, 2021, 08:28:44 PM

It is not true that they are not allowed, because there are still cases in which they are allowed, or rather, according to the moderator's interpretation, they do not violate the rules of the forum. If you want a concrete example, here's a ref link hidden behind a short link - don't even bother to report because it will stay unhandled forever.
So as long as my short URL will not have milicious ads I will be fine to use it even if this is a referral link?

Question remains to check if the URL has malicious ads, someone has to click it and that will infect their device. Isn't it risky for the member who will report it? I assume they will report it after checking the URL.

It's also risky for moderators if they do not verify the reported post by visiting the URL before deleting the post.

Thank you very much. It's been a pleasure knowing the little details. I was able to create a airgapped wallet and it wouldn't be possible with the information you provided.

What is airgapped here? I have few laptops that I use for work.
Airgapped in the sense that the laptop can't and shouldn't connect to the Internet anymore. You take a laptop, reinstall its OS, and remove the network card or at least you make sure you never go online with it anymore. You would need a second wallet on an online computer that will go connect to the internet to broadcast your transactions, and a medium like a USB stick to transfer an unsigned transaction > sign it > broadcast it, etc.

What could be a danger proof material?
A piece of stainless steel plate is a material that will protect your seed from fire or water. Perform a search for "cryptosteel" or "crypto cassette". A make-it-yourself solution like this one is also an option.

If my wallet is offline then how am I going to sign and broadcast the a transaction? You said my device should not have an internet connection.

Thank you for the idea of danger proof. I am looking for a way of how I go for DIY because I should not trust a machanic to draw the words for me.
12  Other / Meta / Re: I am genuinely interested, need some advices. on: May 08, 2021, 11:33:44 AM
I have setup my first wallet yesterday. It's not an online wallet but a desktop software called Electrum.
It shouldn't be an online wallet ideally. Software wallets like electrum are safer and for extra security; use a hardware wallet which would be offline.

What is the best way to store my seed. I read to write it down to a paper which I did successfully.
Writing it down is one way to do it. Some people go the extra mile of engraving it on danger proof materials which would be resistant to fires or floods. Having a backup in one or two secured locations is safe enough.

Is there any suggestions for me to make my wallet very secure?
• Do not reveal you private keys,
• If you have a spare device or PC, you can download electrum on it, store your funds there and keep it airgapped,
• If you're storing higher amounts, get a hardware wallet,
• Dot reuse addresses,
• If you do not own your private key, you don't own the coins.

What is airgapped here? I have few laptops that I use for work.

How do I use a seperate address?

What could be a danger proof material?

Which hardware wallet is most used to the people on this platform?

I've always thought that facebook was a site for kids and fraudsters, so I've never used it.

How on earth do you know what your cousin had for lunch?  Huh

This is pure craziness.

Only an old school can live without Facebook these days. Facebook ruined the childhood, youth of this generation. It will continue ruining generation after generation. Sad to say that all benefits only one guy and his team. We all gave him our data and he can do whatever he wants with the data.

RIP privacy, these days everyone wants to be viral.

Spend a bit of time reading, if you still have questions ask away in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=76.0
Thank you. I was disconnected from the platform because of losing my interest from the hassle of asking questions on the boards I was not familiar.

I am still working on learning the things I need to have my first miner and also I am thinking to spend time on this forum too. It's clear that there are two sides of users. Some are very flexible to pass information and some are too strick that even they don't allow questions that someone needs to ask 😁

SFR10, I am puzzled. It's really a lot of information to catch up.

So I ask frodocooper to guide me with my questions? To do that how do I find him.

I do not know the policy of deleting a post. I am genuinely interest to setup a mining rig and I need information. How do I continue the following post and continue the conversation?

I am very new to learning mining. It's been only less than a week I am studying mining and considering to have a start very soon, I hope I will. But before ordering my first miner, I need to have some solid knowledge about possibly all basics that are related to mining.

I'd estimate this cost about £6000 GBP to install and setup (everything apart from the miners). That's around $8000 USD
$8000 USD to buy how many miners? Can you please specify the models (if that's the correct term) and their prices.

I live in a country where:

> Bitcoin has not legalized yet but I think I do not care much about it and I will manage it anyway.
> There are no ebay and amazon. I have talked to a local computer accessories importer and they confirmed that they can import miners power supply type machines for me from China if I manage to ship the miners machines to their depo in China.
> The temperature in summer is between 30°C and 40°C and in the winter 10°C to 15°C.
> The air has too much dust.
> Load shedding is a regular thing.
> Internet connection has irregularity like someday for few hours the internet will be down, sometimes internet will be slow and other time you are just using it fine.
