941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse ★ Initialization Stage ★ on: September 05, 2014, 03:56:29 PM
I don`t get why XCH is limited in supply and why it is needed in the first place. Why not use VIA for creating assets?
If the amount of XCH is fixed at the end of september, but it will be very important in the future, isn`t there a "risk" that XCH will get very expensive, which could be counterproductive for its original purpose (it would turn more into a speculative asset itself, wouldn`t it?)?

This question was address previously by Drak. The basic answer was, if the population of XCH is lowered significantly the price of XCH services can be adjusted. For example, it is 1 XCH to create a contract. This could be changed to .1 or .01.

But, I don't think this will be needed for a long time. There's a lot of XCH out there.

Can anybody give a link to BTER please ? And what do you mean by UNITY token(Is it this - Asset Id:  15641806960898178066)? Thanks. Smiley

Yes.

Is it possible to transfer the tokens to a "wallet" on my own instead of leaving it there on Bter?

Why not just buy them directly on the NXT AE? This way, they will be in your wallet from the start rather than on BTER.
944  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: September 04, 2014, 08:55:28 PM

Seriously folks...  you need to start forging with your QORA...  WTF!?!?!   Shocked

I hope qora decides to distribute some of the unclaimed QORA among the top forgers/generators (even to the exchange accounts)...  and YES...  I would get some too...  WELL-DESERVED!   Kiss

SUPPORT THE FUCKIN' NETWORK  A L R E A D Y   Angry

While I had a low balance I had always had the client forging. however, in all that time I didn't forge a single block. So, I stopped running the client full time. Is there a lack of nodes on the network?

Xapo and Coinbase also have Vault services.
946  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: September 04, 2014, 08:32:16 PM
Just upgraded my wallet - on the edge of my seat praying all of my assets come back once the blockchain finishes updating.

My asset list is still there but everything else is gone.  Huh

No reason to worry. You won't see your assets until you downloaded the blockchain, but the asset list is saved locally so you see it right away.

lol there needs to be a warning!

There was also an error during the install. I should of taken a screenshot but I was too busy panicking
(Im on Windows 8 - everything has issues)

Your coins and assets are stored on the BLOCKCHAIN not in your wallet. So, as long as you have the password and no one else does, you still have your stuff. You should be able to go to nxtreporting.com, input your NXT ID and see all your coins, assets and transactions as they are on the blockchain.

Added a bit.

Yea, thanks for that, although, I'm not sure that needs to be said.

It seems in the crypto community there is still a misunderstanding of what a "wallet" really is and that it doesn't store "coins" but the keys to those coins. In NXT it is even simpler since by default it is a brain wallet, so they key's to your coins are in your head. you can walk up to any NRS system and send NXT/Assets/etc.

But, I expect most people know, if someone else has a copy of your key they can spend your coins. Since mostall people understand how physical keys work.
947  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: September 04, 2014, 08:29:24 PM
EDIT: Nerve mind, I found it: http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Nxt_API

Hi,

I am trying to call my NXT wallet to make transactions over RPC, but I noticed that NXT is very different and does not have RPC. I have written a .NET application using C# to talk to BTC's wallet over RPC.. How can I do something similar to NXT to automate my transactions from wallet to wallet?

I can't seem to find any documentation. Can someone please help?

you should be able to go to localhost:7876/test as well.

948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: September 04, 2014, 06:36:56 PM
Did you mean a public testnet and would it contain the new code?

Yes. Step 1 should be a public beta release that only runs on testnet. Testing on a few servers in the lab is a good start, but I would expect a beta running on testnet for at least a few weeks before they are ready to graduate it to main net.

But, that's just me, I'm a cautious developer.

If it was public could someone copy the code?

I didn't say public code, I said public test.

So what if someone can copy. Isn't Naut currently open source?

My friend told me that XCH is the same with XCP but i tell his XCH is looks like XCP and XCH is better than XCP.Am i right?

"Better" is subjective.

The main two objective differences I see.

1. Block time. Via has a new block every 24 seconds vs bitcoin's every 10 minutes. So, the market runs much faster.

2. Politics. XCP runs on the bitcoin block chain and bitcoin doesn't LIKE this, considers it spam and made changes to try to break Counterparty. While Clearinghouse runs on the Via blockchain which was designed with the idea of third party apps and welcomes this type of info on the blockchain.

I think those two things make XCH better than XCP.
951  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: September 04, 2014, 04:05:59 PM
Might not aswell

Chances are better that we won't.

It was supposed to be in testing over a month ago, yet they have yet to release even a testnet version.

Just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still here...hopefully this week i will get approval from my publisher to release some details on the dynamic PoS we are working on.

-BK

Ah, "details" on the PoS algorithm are a far cry from implemented code.

Just a stupid question  Grin
How do I set a password to lock the windows wallet?
Settings / Encrypt wallet
or File / Sign message ?

Settings / Encrypt wallet

thanks!!!

Something I've been meaning to ask: it has been said that this password should be 'strong' (as, of course, should all passwords, as you already know).
Does that mean 'strong' as in typical password strong, 8 random alphanumeric characters, or 'Strong' as in NXT passphrase 35 random characters?

12 or more random characters including symbols should be plenty strong enough. If you are using dictionary words you need a much longer password to get the same level of entropy.

956  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET IPO - ICO conducted by Poloniex on: September 03, 2014, 02:58:43 PM
What we try to say here is that (some) US citizens feels privileged because they have some basic services and praise the gov because of that, well guess what the other 90% of the countries already have these also, most of them without NSA and the such. That's all.

You shouldn't make this comment at all, it sounds really naive.  My comment was meant purely as a joke, hence my reference to toilets and garbage.  I don't think any US citizens involved in crypto feel they are privileged because of basic utilities.  The previous poster was stating his concern for US investors and Poloniex who is a US based company, and then we got James rant on how bad the US is without actually addressing IPO concerns for US investors, which is a valid concern.

While I think his rant was uncalled for and quite a bit off point. He did address the issue.

"If you live in a country where this offering isn't legal, then don't invest."

Of course, for non-US investors the question of a US registered company selling a non-registered security, even if selling to non US citizens, is probably a problem. That James didn't address.
957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET IPO - ICO conducted by Poloniex on: September 03, 2014, 02:19:03 PM
Not all things US Gov are bad, I like flushing my toilet and having my garbage picked up weekly.  Anyway, I think his point is be careful about using Poloniex for your IPO because the Gov can shut it down pretty easily.
wow, you dont have to live in garbage and the toilets actually work!
USA is a paradise indeed. Hardly anywhere else in the world has such luxuries
you probably even have hot water and electricity!

Now seriously, just how primitive do you think the rest of the world is?

James

+1

p.s. in rest of the world many countries has free medical care

That's a joke right?

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Ok Etherium + Via?   Via acquired? Get me up whats going on?

I'm pretty sure Via was not acquired. You have to read who posted what in that Chat.

Would someone pls explain what's going on?  Drak? Anyone?

From that chat just posted:

<btcdrak> so I said in the video we have experienced people helping PR and stuff - you know, like meeting with big businesses and names in the crypto industry
<btcdrak> not talking about random small affairs, but established names in the industry.
<btcdrak> they are in talks to roll out major infrastructure for viacoin which will greatly widen viacoin's userbase and make it accessible to general users
<btcdrak> rowandarkwood save to say not small fry.
<btcdrak> viacoin has been noticed and sticks out above the swap of altcoins
<btcdrak> anyway guys, while we're working on the codebase, they are working on adoption, so that's all for now Smiley

So, some big name in the crypto industry is going to be adopting Via. You can probably guess at big names. Coinbase? GoCoin? Bitpay? Moolah? Are there other big names?
Mark Karpeles ?

True, but he is more infamous. Wink
959  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: September 02, 2014, 06:18:53 PM
I HODL. Did the twitter campaign marketing setup with another member and this is already looking good.

Spoke with Qora about hiring people to do serieus marketing and other stuf around and the Dev is willing to pay and hire people to get things rolling. Soon after the qora AE we gonna see a uptrend.

And once Qora is open source we can do a lot more, so people just get involved and see what you can do instead of complaining and stuf.

Do marketing, China, India, America, wherever. We, the community make the difference.

Well keep you guys updated about the new DEV that will join the Qora Core Team.

Just believe and be positive Smiley

Did I read that right, there is a planned new Developer to come onboard, sanctioned by Qora?

I read it as "hire to do marketing". Not development.
