261  Bitcoin / Pools / p2pool - Decentralized, Absolutely DoS-Proof, Pool Hopping-Proof Pool [archival] on: January 22, 2012, 06:42:39 PM
That own efficiency thing is confusing ...
I have seen numbers varying from 60% to 120% in that column.
And if I understand it correctly, if you have 60%, you will be getting 40% less BTC per GPU hash than an average miner on p2pool.
So 50% of people who see <100% efficiency, have an incentive to leave for a regular pool.
Those that remain will again compete against one another, and 50% of those will leave etc...

Option "--datadir=" is needed, otherwise it's not working well with dropbox

269  Local / Майнеры / Re: 144-ядерный процессор Чарльза Мура on: November 24, 2011, 09:53:20 AM
up to 96 MIPS, but processors are very very weak, to compute a SHA1 you'll need - rough estimate - 16 processors, which gives us about 4 MH/sec
cost is $20, power consumption is about 1 watt

platform Mhash/s/$Mhash/J
GPU1.52
FPGA0.420
1440.24

Wouldn't it be easier to just 1) seize bitcoin.org, bitcointalk.org and few other domains under money-laundering laws 2) replace bitcoin.exe with the one that sends all of your coins to 1FederalReserveWallet Grin
271  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Headless mining with windows on: November 13, 2011, 05:21:13 AM
It is true that remote desktop (either direct or via Live Mesh) breaks the access to hardware, if two or more cards are installed.
However, remote access via logmein.com works fine.

274  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1200 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); Up again! on: November 04, 2011, 08:51:46 AM
Once you learn how to use cgminer I guarantee* you won't ever use anything else.

Hmm, gave it a try
Result: Doesn't work so well for Windows users .. apparently it was able to read GPU frequency and fan rate, but not to write it, so all the smart controls weren't working ..
Back to MSI Afterburner+GUIMiner

Go away kid. This pool is for real men. Even if you succeed computing a signature, you will have to pass examination in tonal systems. And even then, only true believers are accepted.
276  Bitcoin / Mining / Cucumbers vs weed on: October 24, 2011, 09:51:25 PM
As bitcoin rigs become unprofitable to operate, some new ways are to be found to supplement miners' income.  One such way is to use the heat produced by the rigs to grow an agricultural substance. There are two kinds of plants which immediately come to mind - cucumbers and marihuana. Both products should be quite popular with middle-age hippie girls.
What do you think is preferable?
