Just a short note to show my supports to our dev.
I am sad to see the turn of events and look back at all this work.
However, I have confidence in you and I am sure you will make up the SFR at fair value.
Surprise us again as you have already been able to do, I'm sure you're capable of and that some of the community have good skills to help you.

Have faith, dev and many community members are hard at work to bring Saffron to new heights.

Major developments in the works! Just a tip, buy now.  Wink

these public squabbles are "not helping" the future of this coin...

dev, please put your foot down, and put a stop to this...

Everything is fine, hopefully hugh can quietly disappear though as his contributions to saffroncoin are unnecessary.

I am also in favour of setting up a community fund account.

As am I. Not sure why he continues to reiterate that the recent uptrend would have an inevitable crash... no shit?

The entity who was driving the price up did not suddenly decide to obliterate the minimal liquidity in buy support, why not let the mania buy through the sells? Instead, you let go of a large % of your holdings prior to releasing a document that described the current market cap as overvalued. Immediately causing panic sales by weak hands and early supporters.

Why not discuss the price projections with the developers/community members prior to expressing your opinion? Hmm I can guess why, it didn't concern you as you were not heavily invested at that point.  Roll Eyes

In addition, there are numerous examples of much larger market manipulations, how about XC for example:

Hello everybody, for those that have been following Saffroncoin on here since the start, you should recognise my username. My real name is Nicolas (@coinviking on twitter) and I’ve been a avid supporter from day one when I saw the enormous potential of this coin. A diamond in the rough so to speak. After several email exchanges with the dev I became convinced that this is a coin that could be supported, developed and eventually grow to become something quite special.

Coins get created every day, everyone knows this and many will simply chase the latest flashcoin for the hope of profits. And I was no different, hopping from one coin to the next, moving my rigs almost everyday to the latest launch, but I got tired of doing so, I sought instead to invest in the developers behind the coin. In Saffroncoin, I found amazing devs that are open, transparent and always willing to listen to their community. Devs that seek to build and continuously improve their coin and have been working tirelessly doing so. I supported them by updating the coin’s logo and website, and have helped provide input that have become some of the many features SFR now has.

As it stands now, I am probably one of the largest holders of saffroncoin with several hundred thousand coins (I mined from the start when scrypt diff was next to nothing, at this time I have yet to start buying them on Bittrex, though that may change in the coming days), and to be clear, ALL my coins are sitting in my wallet at home and not (nor have they ever been) on any exchange. I realise people always end up focusing on the “price” and by now we know that coins with low marketcaps will fluctuate and do so sometimes much more than we would like. We know that regardless of any news, some will sell no matter what, after having pushed the coin higher. That is the reality of crypto, there will always be those that pump coins with short term gains as their only objective. No coin is immune to this, such is the reality of a speculative market.

The devs believe in empowering the community and allowing its voice to be heard, and as such we have an important role as I do think this community is motivated and wants the best for the coin. That being said, this community’s exuberance has to be channeled into a singular a cohesive vision in line with what the original intent was when the devs first created the coin. Certainly this vision can and will  evolve in an organic fashion over time as new technologies surface and new ideas are developed, this is after all a new coin just undergoing it first real growth pattern and as such an important time for establishing some parameters for the community moving forward.

Investors don't invest in a community they invest in the devs, their vision and their ability to execute said vision. As a result we have a responsibility to protect the devs to a certain extent so that he may focus on what they do best (one hint.. code). I’ll be honest, and this is my opinion, the white paper published today would have been great for a traditional business (investors prospectus / quarterly shareholder guidance docs) but for the purposes of the crypto-sphere, many of the traditional strategies employed in the creation of such documents for publicly traded companies etc can be somewhat negatively perceived by those in crypto. This happens do to the fact that businesses are publicly accessible (for the most part) with transparency etc and existing within a regulated system of check and balances. Basically, a precedent of implicit trust/accountability exists for these entities and as such guidances etc can be given as they are generating revenue etc to substantiate their claims etc. Cryptos on the other hand have no such requirements or systems thus when making price projections for example (something common when offering guidance for typical companies to investors) it can come off as “scammy” to a crypto community that was built from the ground up to be a trustless system (blame the Byzantine general). Anyways, whats done is done, regrettably it did much more harm than good introducing many crypto buzz words and trying to be too many things at once. Did it impact the price? It may have had an impact, but the people that were going to sell on the news, were going to do so regardless (this is speculation on my part, I have no corroborating evidence). Personally, I should have asked to get a draft to review it before it was published and could have suggested alterations, so I apologize to the community, I dropped the ball on that. The devs are brilliant and really nice guys, and are willing to bend over backward to grant the wishes of those that own saffroncoins. They also do rely on the expertise of the members of the community so please note that I am not pointing fingers, I honestly believe that the document was created with the best of intentions and I applaud the initiative taken by the individual, ultimately though, it should have been peer-reviewed by others prior to its dissemination to the public in order to ensure that the coin obtain the best possible exposure.

The existing WP will be reviewed and modified; price guidance will be removed, as it has no place in such a document, nor should fixed price targets/guidances ever be the resp of official saffron documents to post. Speculation is best served within the message boards. I don’t care at this time where the price is even though I have seen for myself the equivalent of dozens of BTC in value evaporate with the price decrease from its high. Short term fluctuations happen, med/long term is where my focus is and things are looking very good as nothing has changed in my view that we have fantastic devs can will keep adding to an already great coin and burgeoning “saffron ecosystem”.

Crypto is an odd animal, we create decentralized systems and yet for their ultimate success, centralized structures (foundations/committees etc) must arise in order to remove the noise and allow for the best ideas and ultimately decisions optimised for the coins success to percolate and be integrated into the coin’s framework.

Successful businesses are built by leveraging strong leadership which instill long term confidence and coins are no different in this respect. As such, if you will have me, I will take on a more active role in the community moving forward as there needs to be more robust checks and balances as well as guidance to help peer review new ideas, propositions, pr material etc. I don’t seek to "control" the coin but I will do what I can to steer it on its optimal course.   I encourage other within the community to step forward and be heard so that we may form saffroncoin’s official “dev support group”.

Now is the time to galvanize as a community and instill a structure that supports the devs in their quest to create an ever greater crypto.

Well said.

I agree that the developers and their continued dedication to updating saffroncoin has provided me the confidence to hold through the short term dips. The only thing I wish I did differently was let go some of my holdings to accumulate more at the current price.  Smiley

Wow, this coin is extremely shit! Nice job dev of making such a bloody mess! kill yourself please.

Calm yourself.. but while you're at it, get your suicidal tendencies checked out. It's unpleasant to see you projecting your pain onto others.

Thanks

Sad what a silly whitepaper. I never seen price of a healthy coin crash like this

Crash and will go up.

We are still going to do what we proposed.

A paper Wallet and an encrypted chat system are the very next 2 things.

I've been patiently waiting for steady growth and over the past week, saffron's market price has been moving along nicely. I have no doubt we will recover quickly from this, I just would hope that you do your best as to not cause weak hands to blow through our healthy buy support. Not enough liquidity on bittrex yet to where we could've absorbed and continue. Not terrible though, weak hand left the party early.

Just wait and see.   Cheesy

69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [SFR] SaffronCoin First Multi Algo with X11 and Blake *Bittrex* on: June 13, 2014, 05:41:29 PM
Does that mean that until merged mining starts, Blake will be mined only with wallets?

I am afraid so. But we have 2 options that we will decide upon. We will try our best to get merged mining with Blake asap. We still can't confirm if it is technically possible at this time. We need to work for a few more days before coming to a conclusion. If we feel that it can't be done as of now, we will strip blake and include X13 as the 5th algorithm.

I've taken a close look at the differences between the hashing of blakecoin and this coin and it is to do with the number of rounds of hashing applied.  Blakecoin is using a reduced 8 rounds of hashing, whereas this coin is using the standard 14 rounds defined by Blake256 standard.

The changes required to CGMiner from blakecoin would mainly be limited to the the Blake256.cl kernel to add back in the extra rounds of hashing.  Not as simple as it sounds due to the highly optimised code.

X13 will be significantly more popular over blake.

It would really help for saffron to stand out.

Also cut the POW short at 15 to 20 million to decrease the total supply, that will help with viability as well.

Hey guys, just downloaded wallet (v1.2) and its not connecting to any nodes. Any ideas? Do i need to add new nodes?

Jeff

Hey add these to your %appdata% as a Wincoin.conf file

addnode=76.168.111.3
addnode=190.143.38.247
addnode=98.126.73.2
addnode=67.193.56.206
addnode=180.109.184.159
addnode=115.28.129.207

I have used these and they will get you to sync. Nodes for Wincoin's wallet are not hardcoded into the wallet and need to be added manually.
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EDU] EduCoin | Adoption Plan Generating Buzz | Climbing MintPal Top 40! on: May 25, 2014, 05:24:39 PM
Appreciate the comments, this forum is more active than ever.

@all: After a month of achievements for adoption, this week's discussion has centered around re-developing EDU's core. Cornelius and I agree with re-developing EDU from 1.0.1 directly to a 2.0 version.  While we are re-examining Proof of Stake as a possible direction, I want this community to know that my intent is to change to X11 (e.g. Darkcoin) in the near future.

Building a developers group is the main effort: As of yet, no one has signed up for the developers group, and so I want everyone to know that it will take time to transition from discussion to action. As lead developer, I cannot snap my fingers and make things happen by myself, nor is it my desire to serve the EDU community that way. I am looking to select a team that understands the EDU purpose and is committed to it long term. I am not going to invite people who bring obvious personal agendas which have more to do with affecting market price.

The student hackers who received EduCoin as winners of the hackathons we sponsored are most welcome to join.

The current agenda is as follows:
- We are focused on discussing the re-design of EDU, much more than voting
- We are building a developers group of experienced people who can help us re-build EDU
- Adoption efforts continue, and you can easily participate or create your own efforts through Reddit
- Getting listed on an exchange will happen by itself after the re-launch. But right now, let's not rush to our own deaths by pushing this

@fonzerrellie, as you can see Bittrex has not added EDU for next week's consideration. Exchanges often listen and do something entirely different.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, let's not continue pursuing them (nothing personal, just the timing is not right). There are bigger things we need to do, like getting the EDU developers group running.

@gambel: Getting liquidity with a DOGE or LTC pairing is not in this community's interest. If EDU 2.0 were launched today, I would disagree even further. For any coin to reach a stable floor price, Bitcoin is the gold standard. DOGE and LTC are altcoin derivatives which should come later.

@envist / @piggyj: Educoin.co is a private interest launched as a "virtual currency" by a group of students in Munich in 2013.  They are not affiliated or related to EduCoin, the open source cryptocurrency. Educoin.co appears to have been an idea contest project and their technology does not utilize Bitcoin. If anyone does decide to contact them, instead of asking them to change their name it would be more appropriate for them to actually begin using EduCoin's tech as their own.  That would help both their organization and the EDU digital currency mutually.

1. You speak about a community deciding things, how is the decision process and how can people get involved?

2. Could you explain me why is this not in the community's best interest to have other pairings? There are people who started mining EduCoin thinking they could sell them 1-2 months later, your are now taking that possibility from them and forcing them to move to EduCoin 2.0 without any chance of getting out.

3. I invest every day 10-15 minutes making several votes on MintPal. If MintPal decides to add us as a EDU/LTC pairing, are you going to do the same as with coin-swap, asking them to remove us from their exchange completely?

4. I would like to support the coin and invest time in it, but the problem is that I feel there is no clarity in the future of it, so i'm not sure if I want to be behind it or not.

5. Uncertainty is the most dangerous thing for any investment. I would request you to make a roadmap and include now a decision on how you want to move forward, so everybody can decide if they are will to invest more time, hardware or money into it.

Getting frustrated again.

Gambel.

I was under the impression that FUncertaintyD is the altcoin motto. I agree that there needs to be more resources to get the community involved though. Starting with a transparent roadmap, irc for community discussions, and a website for polls to quickly gauge the community's opinions. I appreciate the votes on mp as I have done a fair amount as well!  Smiley

One thing I do not agree with is your repeated discussions regarding pairing with ltc and doge. Those are altcoins themselves that demolish the floor price for a BTC pairing. If you wish the community to support your ability to dump Educoin into the ground, I doubt they will agree. This has been an insane couple months in the altcoin market and the dev has stuck around and is constantly working to promote Educoin. In all honesty, I have seen altcoins with far less developments get pushed to absurdly high prices and I believe the branding and development behind Educoin will get us to a stable btc price. Please hold tight and wait for appropriate levels, as you will regret it later. For the time being, I will buy all of your holdings for Doge if you would like to deal with an escrow service.

Mutually beneficial as you wish to cash out and I would like to accumulate more Edu.  Wink

So are we not allowed to mine PoW past block 10000 or are we getting an update? Should we just close our pool in the meantime?
Why do you say that?
Have you been able to mine a PoW block after 10000? Getblocktemplate seems to say you can't...

Block 10437 updated 9 seconds ago over here.
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EDU] EduCoin | X11 Call Me, Maybe? | Climbing MintPal Top 50! on: May 21, 2014, 11:38:05 PM
What will you gain when changing to X11 at this stage? There are a total of 110,000,000,000 coins and you're already at 70,000,000,000. Changing your algorithm will not help you in new miners, etc, as the block reward is already so low.

I would suggest:

1. Really try to get on bittrex.com or so, as you don't have any exchange where you can use your coins, ok, lets stated it differently any good exchange.

2. I would go for POS, just allow people to mine 1 or 2 weeks using POW, but with a big amount of coins that they can mine, else nobody will mine it. Move to POS with a nice yearly return.

You cannot remove any coins... that is the biggest problem here. I've a third idea.

Basically this coin is dying, why not launch a new coin with x% pre-mine. Let this coin die, BUT reward the people that has been mining for you since the beginning, so what you will ask is, that people deposit their EDU coins to your wallet, based on the number of coins they will receive a part of the pre-mine coin. Launch a new coin with a lot less coins!!!! Everything above 10,000,000,000 is way too much.

Just think about it. Have a good marketing team for your coin to market it, and don't be afraid to pay (or invest) for it.

Ideas for Educoin2.0 :

Primary Goals:
- Put Educoin in the hands of people who could benefit from Educoin the most, the students and teachers across the world.
- Target college students with Scholarship program (sign up .edu email for your piece of the Educoin scholarship fund!)
- Contact http://www.arcademics.com/ and other similar websites to reward students who complete games/quizes in Educoin (doubles as a differentiation strategy to increase site traffic as well as teaching younger generations about cryptocurrencies, starting with Educoin)

We need a more sustainable total supply and I believe this a 100% PoS model would effectively provide that for the community. Due to the nature of PoS coins, (essentially 100% premine currencies), we could restructure the distribution strategy to allow for improvements such as:

Percentage Breakdown

50%      Evenly distributed to current Educoin holders

35%      Scholarship program directed at college students (redeem by signing up with college email ".edu" for verification)

10%      Funding for learning websites that reward students in Educoin. Incentivizes students to play learning games with a positive twist, a healthy conditioning of learning = reward
which is beneficial for the young minds of our nations solving problems
For reference, this should be enough proof of concept for most:
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/education/2008-01-27-grades_N.htm?csp=usat.me

2%    Donation for development work/coding (devs involved in harvesting)

3%    Bonus coins for Multipool to boost payouts for Educoin supporters

1%    Bounty for 1st Multipool (Scrypt/X11) for mining Educoin (providing healthy buy support)

.5%   Bounty for exchange involved in harvesting process

X%      Unclaimed balance. To deduce from 50% minted coins. For those who haven't switched during the swap period; we will keep that balance for 3 months (and those who are late would be able to claim their Educoin). After this period, unclaimed coins will be destroyed.

Approximate distribution figures:
Total Supply: 10.1 billion
- 5.05 billion (Minted edu)
- 3.53 billion (College Scholorship Program)
- 1.01 billion (Various Learning Websites)
- 200 million (Development work turning to PoS)
- 300 million (Bonus coins to promote mining in multipool)
- 100 million (1st Scrypt/X11 Multipool for EduCoin)
- 50 million   (Bounty for Exchange helping "harvesting" process)

Potential PoS Specifications:

- 15 sec block target
- Difficulty retarget each block
- PoS daily interest payout initially at 0.05% per day (equivalent to 22% annual interest rate), gradually dropping down to 0.01% per day (equivalent to 3.7% annual rate), the decrease will be over a period of 5 years (rate adjusted every 3 months). Then it will remain at this rate.
- Minimum holding time before the PoS will be generated: 1 day
- Max accumulated coin-day: 100 days

If you check out Distroblitz, they are a example of the following process that I feel would be an excellent choice for educoin:

They took the unstable Blitzcoin network, and through a "harvesting" process on bittrex, they converted Blitz to DistroBlitz at a 2:1 ratio.
With consideration of our total supply, I believe we should scale it down to a 20:1 ratio.

An individual merely needs to move their coins onto the exchange, bittrex disables the wallet temporarily and viola, moments later you have Educoin2.0 in your wallet at a 20:1 ratio.
