261  Economy / Speculation / Regarding the HF, what is Coinbase thinking? on: July 27, 2017, 02:52:26 PM
First, I am a rookie at understanding this, and I am trying to understand, so please be gentle...

So Coinbase has made a public statement they will not support BCC.
So won't a hardfork, (since one fork will win and one will wither and die,) make all Bitcoin held by that exchange (Coinbase, CB) worthless in the end if BCC "wins"?  What are they thinking?  Do they want to go out of business?

They explain that the hardfork has its security concerns, 51% attack, whatever, fine I get that,  but if BCC becomes the new main fork, CB would have to be betting on some catastrophic failure of BCC in order to justify this position.  That seems a high risk position to me,,, unless this is just posturing for some reason and they do end up supporting BCC at the last minute (assuming they have to act in supporting the new software before they are locked out on Aug 1)

So am I correct that as for Coinbase present position it is "BTC or die"??
262  Economy / Speculation / Re: Taking a loan to buy bitcoin on: July 23, 2017, 02:14:36 AM
I'm thinking of getting a loan to buy more bitcoin, as I'm guessing we'll reach $10K in a few months it can be a good deal to lend at a bank against 5% anual rate

Did anyone do this before? Would like some experience advice

A better plan would be "dollar cost averaging" in buying an affordable amount every month,,, and then HODL.

And don't buy what you can't afford to lose.  That is the general rule of speculative investing.
263  Economy / Speculation / Re: John McAfee: Bitcoin will go above 500k $ in 3 years on: July 23, 2017, 02:03:02 AM
Don't be stupid.

The next halving is in 2020. The block reward drops to 6.25 coins every 10 minutes. With this price it would mean that 450 million $ are created every day. Sure.  Roll Eyes

That's nothing, the US gov ALONE prints $560 million a day.

This is a very relevant point.

The fed is creating / devaluing fiat at a rate that would be the minimum required for the value of Bitcoin to increase if it is to replace fiat or if it is used as a lifeboat to preserve wealth...

Hyperinflation has historically happened with little warning, or at least without the warning signs being taken seriously, and then happens with lightening speed.  The rush to preserve wealth will also happen very quickly, and perhaps even faster.  We see it already as JP Morgan buys record amounts of silver, another lifeboat for wealth.

The days of the US dollar as the sole reserve currency and petrodollar,,, are over.
264  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC is not used for what is meant to be, possible Crash on: July 13, 2017, 06:14:13 PM
I am worry about that BTC is not being used for the porpouse of is creation, that is being used as a currency, instead is being used as an investment, and is going to crash if is just saved and not used, so the BTC will crash to zero very soon if that does´t change soon.

If being used as a currency is important, and I am not sure that it is, then we have to get rid of the double taxation involved with using it as a currency.

How on Gods green earth am I suppose to keep track of every transaction and payment I use Bitcoin to pay for and then pay capital gains taxes on the difference between the Bitcoin purchase price I paid for the Bitcoin and "selling" price at the point of me paying some bill with it? (Which is also a different rate depending on how much you make and if you owned that Bitcoin for more than a year)  That is a book keeping nightmare, and technically the IRS (in the US) could come after you for every transaction, even that latte you paid for with Bitcoin at that coffee shop...

Now I doubt the IRS will waste their time for the small amount of capital gains with your single half decaf double shot caramel latte with sprinkles at the coffee shop, but if you do enough transactions such that it totals thousands of dollars in potential tax revenue I wouldn't want to be in that position.  And THAT is why I don't use Bitcoin to pay for anything, which I could (my satellite tv provider Dish offers to let me pay my monthly bill on line in Bitcoin).

The bottom line is that Bitcoin is not a currency in the US.  It is a commodity.

Until the taxation issue is resolved I only BUY and HODL.

265  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to 5,000 $/btc ? on: June 29, 2017, 04:22:42 PM
5K ?

I bet on 12k before 2018

I'm not sure I would "bet", but I sure do wish!
266  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we going to 5,000 $/btc ? on: June 29, 2017, 03:58:32 PM
Is it possible to reach 5,000 $ /btc this week or next week ?

Yes.
267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: June 28, 2017, 08:51:27 PM
Since we are talking about a high number of bitcoins, do any of you have experience using multiple different trezor devices at the same time?

Are there any issues that arise in the web wallet when you disconnect one, and then connect the other?   I have managed to have a few issues with Safari browser (on Mac OS) using only 1 trezor, but it has been smooth sailing with Chrome (on Windows and Mac OS).

I am considering this.  I have ordered a second Trezor.
I would think no problem.

I think you could even keep the same six digit PIN and password with both since the two Trezors would have different seeds and private numbers.  Unplug one, plug in the other.
I don't know for sure, but I don't see why not, and that way you only have to memorize one password and PIN.

268  Economy / Speculation / Re: Segwit fork and the bitcoin price on: June 16, 2017, 10:23:12 AM
...
On August 1 there will be a soft fork (UASF) which can lead to a coin split if miners do not signal segwit.  But if miners signal segwit, there will be no split and it will just be a normal day. But the FUD it creates may shake the newbies into dumping their coins.

I have a stupid question, so please don't abuse me.

Why would a miners NOT signal segwit and do the soft fork?  That seems to be the no brainer.  It is the BU hardfork, with much bigger changes and issues, and potentially losses, that would be questionable participation I would think.

Is it possible there are miners out there asleep at the switch that would inadvertently miss not doing the segwit signal?

We're long term here!

For being that this was posted on YouTube in Feb 2017, this guy is right on the mark.  $2000 to $4000 by the end of 2017.

We are actually close to his high estimated prediction for the year, and toward the end of the video he shows a table of what could happen several years out...

If his calculations hold, and you own a few Bitcoin,,, we are going to be f&@%ing rich!
271  Economy / Speculation / Re: A realistic bitcoin price in a year on: June 10, 2017, 07:22:35 PM
More than 20K, unless another crypto takes over.

I like the way you think!

If you find tha crypto that would replace Bitcoin please let me know.
272  Economy / Speculation / Re: A realistic bitcoin price in a year on: June 10, 2017, 07:14:10 PM
The rate of increase is accelerating; we are going exponential.

As more and more countries make Bitcoin use easier within their borders, the number of countries doing so will also increase exponentially as nobody will want to be left behind as bitcoin's uses and importance is discovered.

We are at the equivalent of being the at the point in time the first people were offered the opportunity to buy the first shares of Microsoft.

As such, my guess is $11,750.00 on this date next year, assuming no economic crisis accelerates this even more.
273  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation about this month bitcoin price on: June 01, 2017, 11:48:16 PM
$4000.

No real proof why except that acceptance and various and increasingly more countries favorable policy changes are accelerating IMHO.
274  Economy / Speculation / Re: The price of Bitcoin in 2020 on: May 25, 2017, 11:00:59 PM
So far scenario A seems to be playing out, with a high of ± $2700 and correction to ± $2300. Things are moving quicker then expected though.
It's funny how accurate scenario A is Cheesy This should be interesting, to compare.
But probably there will be big breakthrough when people will accept it (next financial crisis?).
I also think that the forecasts for a couple of thousand dollars for 2020 look very ridiculous. Already today the price for Bitcoin rises steadily enough and can soon reach $ 3000 within 5 or 6 months.

The results of the last week are so far off the chart in outperformance I think the models are flawed.

I think there might the factor not included in even the model A that those in power with some fore knowledge of pending events, the really big money in the world, are planning on not being left behind, for example a financial crisis.

This seems to be growing exponentially even with a correction here and there.
275  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: Bubble about to pop. on: May 09, 2017, 10:14:07 PM
Some of the delusional minds here think that a cup and handle is forming or double shoulders making for crazy future prices.

I would like to remind everybody that this is not the case. This is a pure bubble that's on extreme tension.

The 2013 peak was caused by a hack, a bot at MtGox, not by real market trading. It is a false indicator and should be completely ignored in any TA.

This craze can't go on much longer before we crash hard again to $800-$1000.

You are warned.

If I had listened to you I wouldn't be Big $ ahead right now.

My question is what your motivation is in spewing the FUD you have over the last few years.

If your motivations are genuine, and I am starting to doubt it, then you are the worst financial adviser there has ever been, and you are an idiot.
If you really are acting in what you think is our best interest by giving your horrible advice, then please stop, because you aren't.
276  Economy / Speculation / Re: This is going to be good for Bitcoin some day, HODL on: March 18, 2017, 09:30:28 PM
Right.
Consider this a buying opportunity for some cheap coins.
Investing in bitcoin is not for the weak of heart.
Buy and hodl on!

No guts no glory!

HODLING!!!!
277  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Bullish Bitcoin Media Center (The ONLY Bullish Bitcoin News Thread) on: March 03, 2017, 07:59:03 PM

Thank you Fakhoury,
You make my day over and over again, and are proven right in the process.

Please keep it up, and I continue to HODL my few bitcoins!!
278  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Bullish Media Center (The 1 stop Bullish BTC news source) on: February 09, 2017, 06:37:32 AM

I am particularly optimistic about the ETF and the consequences for the price of BTC.

I think that the $2000 prediction is low.  Once it is approved, IF/WHEN, nobody will want to be left out of the party, and it then may be the point where we reach critical mass.
279  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2017, 08:15:19 PM
I agree JJG.  I can't get away from the feeling that something big is coming, and it does look more likely that the breakout will be upwards.  I'm fuelled up  Grin

I think something very big is going to happen.  Unfunded liabilities like SS, Medicaid, Medicare, and the shaky ground that a couple hundred TRILLION of $ of bank derivatives balance on... On the radio just today someone was claiming the EURO was going to collapse within 18 months.  Also several Euro-zone countries are either thinking of exiting, or possibly experiencing a economic collapse.  In addition, dozens of other countries are on the economic edge of collapse.  This could all fall apart quickly, Gold could be confiscated again, in==at which point Bitcoin is not going to the moon, but Mars.

Very bad, but not for those who invest in the financial lifeboat for value.

Sad, but...

We will laugh as the world burns!
280  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 27, 2017, 08:08:50 PM
Now I also am not advocating anarchy

I am. I don't think people need rulers in order to get along.

In principle I couldn't agree more, but we are dealing with humans here, and some 'authority' has to determine if, when and who those principles are being applied to.
It assumes no evil doers.
What happens when someone unjustly claims self defense? Someone has to enforce the principles, is my point.
