121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is ICO ? on: April 25, 2016, 10:50:27 PM

So someone who has a monopoly on mining equipment can own the supply? You cannot debate that this is a fairer distribution method than ICO distribution because you know the same problems happen in each one.

The miner has high up-front costs and also electricity costs. He doesn't get the coins for free. Also you need to pay attention to the distribution of hashpower to know what's going on.
In minig at least it's transparent what's happening while ICO is a black box.
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is ICO ? on: April 25, 2016, 10:45:26 PM
ICO is always scam because those offering it buy into it themselves to fool you so you think there would be high demand - and when buying their own ico they get to keep the coins they buy from their own offering PLUS the bitcoin and they will dump those extra coins on you later too.
Nobody can prove it did happen, that's why it happens. Also the one offering the ICO can never prove he did not buy into it himself.
So ico is complete scam normally. Don't be told otherwise by the scammers. The only legit way of distribution is mining - longterm mining, no flashmining.

You're welcome.

This doesn't make sense, what happens if you do not have the technical knowledge to mine or have the equipment? What if the developers want a lower cost energy coin using proof of stake? You cannot say all ICO's are scams, NXT and Ethereum are the 2 biggest successes in the market currently.

If you can't mine you buy from someone who can.

POS can have initial mining too, there is nothing that prevents a POS coin from having a fair distribution.

Yes, i said all ico. Only because it's pumped later doesn't mean the distribution wasn't fraudulent.

ETH is rape, no matter how you look at it. People have been warned.
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH ... band of idiots -or- band of fools? on: April 24, 2016, 08:55:38 PM
LTC might not be such a bad investement right now  Wink

If i was ETH bagholder (thankfully i'm not) i'd hedge with LTC against my potentially devastating losses with ETH.
126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We missed the ETH train. on: April 23, 2016, 11:55:16 AM
Inflation in ETH about to get the upper hand over the market.
This has potential to drop 99% from here.

Only a statist could care about that stuff.
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are a prisoner's dilemma and not possible to beat Bitcoin on: April 23, 2016, 12:27:03 AM
Altcoins will die off once WAVES creates their platform.

They died off already because of sidechains and ETH. Not again please!   Roll Eyes
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The impact of bad crypto (DASH, SDC, etc). How much does math matter? on: April 22, 2016, 11:08:33 PM
The thing is: 99.9999% of inhabitants of this planet can't even track a btc-transaction on blockchain.info

So the anon-coin-hype has finally worn off same as the pos-hype?

So we're back to conventional pow, right?  Roll Eyes   Tongue    Cool     Grin     Cheesy

The poll was not focused on privacy, the danger of high school level mathematics is far greater than that. The random number generator (RNG) error with the DASH paper wallet generator literally put users at risk of their entire balances being stolen.

Newsflash: not even the rng in bitcoin-qt is 100% reliable as i was hearing from the horses' mouth in the technical section somewhere. All your funds are at risk due to rng being not random.

And then again: "security" is always an illusion. Wishful thinking of a human mind afraid of pain and death. There is no good corespondence to the idea of "security" in the real world so it will likely forever be a chase for unicorns but i digress.
"Security" is just an idea fueled by whishful thinking. It can never be reached in reality.

The only thing that gives us something close to security is the fact that 99.99% of people are too stupid to understand what's happening if that makes sense?

There is no security behind the curve - none whatsoever

132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Ethereum Paradox on: April 22, 2016, 10:00:56 PM
ETH? Ask for undenyable proof the presale wasn't selfbought. Guess, what: that proof is impossible to produce.

Why are people even wasting their time on discussing presale-scams as if they had ANY relevance?
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are a prisoner's dilemma and not possible to beat Bitcoin on: April 22, 2016, 09:35:30 PM
While OP is correct in many ways i do have to say BTC could go wrong in a lot of ways (centralisation or bloat as big threats longterm for example). When BTC goes horribly wrong you're happy to hold vertcoin or such.

And then there are black swan events that can hardly be foretold so this is all idle talk in the end as nobody here has a reliable crystal ball to see the future.

Alts always were and always will be where the innovation happens. Bitcoin can not exist without altcoins. I personally do look at crypto as a spectrum, a machine with a lot of cogs and wheels. Cryptos support each other in many ways often by accident or without the awareness of the many. It's not "this coin vs that coin"; it's "coins vs fiat"

Altcoins are part of bitcoins' ecosystem until bitcoin becomes part of the ecosystem of something bigger (which will be born among the alts) which hasn't happened yet and probably won't happen this or next year. Anyone who says he knows what the future for bitcoin holds further than 3 or 4 years into the future likely is a scammer and schould be avoided imo. There is no way of telling what might happen down the road.

There is only one thing 100% certain: the coin that could rival bitcoin will NOT be sold in a presale or ico Wink
134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The bottom will drop out of the alt market soon on: April 22, 2016, 08:49:41 PM

Haha, oh please.  You're walking around here trying to hype some old scamcoin that Wolong used to pump and dump called "Unobtanium".  Sorry, you're not fooling anyone pretending these literally 10,000 scamcoins that exist now aren't going to crater.  There is no reason for all these things to exist.

You actually called unobtanium a "work of art".  Next you're going to be telling us to buy Borgcoin:

If all that comes to your mind is 'wolong' when hearing 'uno' you're probably stuck in 2013 or something. The 2013-pumpers are long gone.

And jada, jada. We know you're bagholding way more bitcoin than is good for you so your opinion is as biased as anyone elses'. Also the days when bitcoin could be mega-uber-hyped are also back in 2013. Man, your thread is such a blast from the past  Grin
135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The bottom will drop out of the alt market soon on: April 22, 2016, 04:26:27 PM
OP was wrong. The opposite happened already. I hope not too many people were scared out of their coins and had to rebuy higher later. BTC about to temporarily max out due to blocksize shenangians. Alts will almost certainly gain marketshare in the upcoming months and years which is a healthy developement.

Diversification was never a bad thing.
136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Update to 0.10 Wallet - Merge Mine w/BTC! on: April 20, 2016, 04:33:34 PM
I think this is all part of the longterm flow of uno from those who can't hold or secure them properly to those who can. It's evolution.

I for one am betting on the 15k to be remain frozen for another while but will also be able to adjust if/when they come to market directly. I think that strategy could work out.
137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invest-able Altcoins? on: April 19, 2016, 08:13:12 PM
Unobtanium (UNO), under value, long history, very low inflation, merge mining with btc, fair initial distribution through 2 year pow before merge mining. Look at the specs, it's a piece of art. Price should rise.
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Feathercoin Doubled on: April 19, 2016, 08:01:22 PM
Was too cheap before. I think it's worth this price. It'll probably drop again, though and rise on another occasion again, who knows. But it being under value at 1k sat is pretty obvious.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum shuts down forums because $300 / month is too much on: April 19, 2016, 07:52:24 PM
Financials are probably just an excuse to wind down operations before the fatal flaws in the code are exposed?
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Soon Back To Sub 1 Dollar on: April 19, 2016, 07:46:20 PM
I'm buying for 5 cent in december 2017.
