Many exchanges, including Polo, Cryptopia, and Huobi are "experiencing issues" with XEM wallet.
coinpayments.net started allowing XEM withdrawals again. They have the hacker's mosiac (From laundering the XEM for hacker early on) - Now people are depositing to exchanges, and having their deposits denied.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 27, 2018, 11:26:19 PM
It is hard to make a sustained return on ICOs since a vast majority underperform the market significantly. It is not a bad idea to slow down your ICO investments and put it into NEM instead, and make a small amount harvesting while waiting to ride out the downturn.
On average, ICOs suck. But a quality ICO can net significant returns.

ProximaX has been in development behind the scenes since August, 2017, and It has a great team.
And most importantly, it is already effectively challenging TRON, Filecoin, Storj, Stream, Voise, Sia, and others without even launching their ICO yet.
But of course, HODLing XEM is a great choice as well. XEM price should increase dramatically, and is likely the safer choice from an investment standpoint.
I will be trying to get my hands on some XPX, though I will leave a majority of my investment in XEM.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 27, 2018, 10:14:32 PM
I heard a separate foundation will be formed for ProximaX. I’m a little bit worried about it cannibalizing NEM's prospective market, especially because they will not use XEM but their own native token XPX. Why wouldn't they just use XEM? Thanks in advance for your insights.

ProximaX is a platform being built upon the NEM chain. It will not in any way "cannibalize" NEM, but will provide lots of utility. It will allow anyone to build dApps utilizing the NEM blockchain.
ProximaX has an entirely different development team than NEM. So it's not like NEM devs are getting sidetracked.
XPX, the ProximaX token will require XEM fee to transfer, further strengthening XEM utility.
I wasn't going to share this, but if it helps calm the FUD, I suppose I will. - I was told by Lon that ProximaX ICO will "most likely" offer a favorable exchange rate in XEM. This should really drive the price of XEM once the news is official, as anyone participating in the ICO should buy XEM first, then trade the XEM for XPX to get the best deal.

I find it silly that people would think building upon NEM somehow would hurt it. This is what NEM is for!

Quote from: gentlemand
Why consider any ICO, let alone one associated with NEM? So far all of the NEM based ones have gone nowhere.

ICO's are used for start ups to achieve funding to build a project. There is no need for an ICO if your project is completed. Therefor, saying that "no ICO has gone anywhere" doesn't make much sense. It's similar to saying that putting gas in your car is pointless, because it didn't get you to where you needed to go.
Gas and ICOs are fuel to make progress, they are not progress themselves.

However, you should always do your own research into the people behind any ICO. I don't think anyone will find much similarity between Bankera or Petro and upcoming the ProximaX ICO.
IMO - ProximaX will be one of the best crypto investments of the year.
Also, if you haven't already - sign up with myCoinvest. This is another great project built on NEM, and has a great team. Right now you can participate in airdrop and other tasks to earn free CVZT. And the ICO will be launching in June, I believe.

Quote from: BitcoinArsenal
I think and hope that once the majority of the stolen coins have been sold, the price will stabilize and rise again in the medium term.

ALL stolen XEM has been sold and dumped on the market, minus a 16mill account that has not been touched since March 4th, and trivial amounts scattered about. Read last few pages of this thread for more details.
I have written to media outlets sharing the information that I've gathered, but they have yet to report on it. It appears there is no crypto journalist covering the topic that is actually willing to do real work and info gathering. Instead they copy+paste quotes, and use bots to pull info from twitter and other sources.
Because of the inaccurate reporting, many are still afraid to buy XEM, as they assume the hacker, or customers of his, can still dump on the market.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 26, 2018, 05:52:38 AM
Hello all! There is so much news! And some new topics of discussion here.
I don't know where to start! I will try my best to keep some direction in the rant upcoming:

I'll start with the rough stuff.

The great news about ProximaX, then Catapult, has somehow turned into FUD. Blame Jaguar's comments, blame the timing of the news release, blame the troll organizations working against us. I'll try to break down my viewpoint.

There is still a lot of confusion for the "average joe" when first reading into NEM. The following topics tend to muddle up the mind:
NEM, XEM, NEM Catapult, Mijin, Mijin Catapult, Tech Bureau, NEM Foundation, Open Source, Commercial License

1. Tech Bureau designed and built Mijin. Mijin is a private blockchain that can communicate with the NEM public blockchain, which is managed by NEM Foundation.
2. Catapult is the codename for major upgrade to Mijin blockchain.
3. NEM public blockchain will upgrade with Catapult code once it is thoroughly tested (Currently only used on Mijin)
4. The code in "Catapult" will be available to the public as open-source software once private testing is completed.
5. Businesses, Banks, Large Enterprise, (or anyone, really) can purchase a commercial license for the software, allowing them to modify it for business purposes, as well as receive setup and support from Tech Bureau.
6. XEM is the unit of measure that the public blockchain, NEM, utilizes.

With that said, I'll address some questions, whether they were asked here or not:
1. Catapult code is not currently available to the public. This prevents others from stealing ideas from it. It does NOT mean that there are problems with it, that it can't fill it's promises, or that it's not being developed, or <Insert Negative Assumption Here>.
2. Mijin is NOT a competitor to NEM. In fact, it lends important strength and function to NEM. Mijin allows businesses to keep private data private, and public data public, and minimizes the block-size and traffic of the public chain, by NOT including private information within it.
3. The availability of a commercial license does NOT mean that one can "buy" better code, or that other "good stuff" is not available on public chain, but only available upon paying for a commercial license. This means that nobody can legally fork the blockchain, or otherwise take the project in a different direction.
The commercial license available for Mijin actually provides important funding for it's development.
4. XEM is NOT going away or changing once Catapult is implemented. There is no swap, airdrop, burn, etc. XEM is XEM.
5. The specs of Mijin on Catapult are not a direct translation to the specs of NEM on Catapult. There is no guarantee of hitting 4k transactions per second on the public ledger, tho the codebase can handle it. 4k TPS is reported to be achieved on private ledger, but if that is not standard on public ledger, it does NOT mean that NEM (public ledger) will be slow or inferior in any way.
6. Transactions on NEM public ledger are already VERY FAST! Compare transaction times to most other cryptos, - I mean real world tests you can do yourself - and you will see that even without Catapult upgrade, sending XEM and/or mosiacs is extremely fast!
Actual transaction speeds on the public ledger will vary with network status: Number of nodes, super nodes, traffic, etc.

Now with that out of the way: Jaguar's comments.
However you feel about them, it does highlight some disconnection.
I used this analogy elsewhere. Although it is simplistic, I think it's fitting enough. There is Development, Management, and the Community. The Brains, Lungs, and Heart.
All parts need to be in sync, or the entire beast suffers. I am NOT saying that the community has no brains, or the management no heart. But that we all play different roles. We need to understand, respect, and encourage those differing roles.

1. Development is coming along nicely with NEM, as well as projects built upon it. Devs are busy Developing. They are not hanging out on the forums or chatting it up with media. This interview with Jaguar is quite uncommon. And I'm sure his comments were more directed towards day traders with no interest in projects, but only in profiting from them.
2. Management has been organizing events all over the world. It seems like everyday I hear about a new blockchain center, Management meeting with another large business executive or government official, etc
NEM Foundation has a planned spending of $40 million in marketing this summer. There hasn't been much marketing happening now, because it really isn't best decision to market something until the timing is right.
3. The community has been banding together and becoming more active. Volunteering for things, organizing meetups, discussing here on the forums, etc.

I don't mean to blather about "good deeds" I've done, but I think talking about my own activities might encourage others. I am not paid. I do everything I do for free, but do accept donations. Smiley (see my signature)
1. In the past 48 hours or so, I helped 6 people set up NanoWallet and make their first transactions. Two of them didn't speak English, so I was using translator. One of them didn't know how to extract files from an archive (requiring extra coaching, beyond NEM stuff)
2. In the same 48 hours, I introduced NEM to a developer who is now learning how to build upon NEM chain instead of ETH. I'm not a developer, but I took the time to find the information that I needed to answer his questions and grow his interest.
3. I've reviewed, rated, recruited for, and promoted projects built on NEM.
4. I share NEM related stuff on social media, and talk about it to friends, family, and nearly anyone who will listen.
5. Myself and others started a small group of like-minded individuals to help promote NEM on crypto media channels.
6. I created a mind-map of NEM projects, giving visual reference to otherwise "boring looking" information.
7. I'm currently working on lots of stuff NEM related. Including typing this long forum response.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 24, 2018, 01:36:26 AM
Appreciate the updates on the hacker funds.
So we know that the funds have moved to exchanges, but how do you know they've actually been sold?

I timed 100s of transactions to exchange address, then watched for dump. 9 times out of 10 could see the dump happen in real time. Often the same exact amount as transfered.
A lot of people were buying stolen XEM on darknet market for 30% discount, transfered to exchange, dump, and repeat.

Knowing they were doing something illegal, I doubt many left xem on exchanges. Additionally, the daily volume reflects the dumping.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 23, 2018, 07:50:03 PM
If there is an additional bigger eliminate in the future, it really is definitely great opportunity to purchase.
There are no burns planned, but XEM is deflationary currency. Total amount is 9billion, already created and issued, and no more ever to be created in the future.

I really don't see XEM price being this low ever again. We are slowly killing the bears and short termers, and buy walls are forming on all exchanges. Japan will be waking up in couple hours, and should see further acceleration. And once the momentum starts... That's when the doubters get FOMO Smiley
I plan to hold long term, so short term price isn't really so important to me, other than seeing enthusiasm and confidence regaining.

NEM is the best smart asset chain available right now, and has so many good things going. The most undervalued coin IMO.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 23, 2018, 02:55:39 PM
Confirmed: The news from Nikkei was not false. And Binance is responding:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/major-crypto-exchange-binance-to-open-office-in-malta-after-japanese-regulator-warning

@gentlemand - I don't know why most would not save their private key. This is a lesson that has been drilled upon since dawn of bitcoin. It is very very important. And with electronic failures, it is important to make a physical copy. - And with passwords, there is no "Click here if you forgot your password" button on a wallet.

If you are just toying with trivial amounts, it might not be a big deal to have backups, but anyone serious about keeping anything of value needs to follow the standard procedure.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 23, 2018, 02:38:33 PM
well, so with nanowallet it's not possible import a wallet with a private key? Well, that's really strange. Now i can't check because i'm not home, but i will check later.

Yes you can import Private Key very easy. The password is encrypted in the full wallet data. When creating a new wallet, you should back up private key, password, and full wallet data.
The safest way to do this is to copy it into a simple text program, print it, and put it in a fire-resistant safe.

If you lost your password, you might be able to brute-force it. Any information regarding which characters were used would be helpful. - So if you don't know exact password, but some idea of what it might be, write down those ideas before forgetting.

I see there are people trying to get us to sign up on the sketchy "exchange" CryptalDash, by saying we need to "Vote for NEM." - In order to vote, one has to sign up on their platform. There are people spamming forums all over with this garbage. Please, do not follow their links. NEM does not want or need businesses that conduct themselves in this manner.

If you want to get behind a real project
that is worth your time, and will help NEM network: join MyCoinvest! You can participate in the Airdrop, as well as complete tasks to earn CVZ.
I've talked to the devs, and have been impressed with their fast responses and ability to handle criticism.
This looks like a much more promising project than Bankera.

"MyCoinVest will utilize the NEM Blockchain. This project will add to and benefit from the entire NEM Ecosystem with the possibilty to exchange CVZ for XEM and even other crypto currencies and fiat (USD), and vice versa.
This exchange will be done in the Vezclub Marketplace alongside the setting and fulfilling of savings goals between users on the same platform."

--Lots of FUD news out past couple days! - Especially in Japan, which is our biggest area of support. This has put a damper on XEM price growth.
However, this gives us an extended period to buy more cheap XEM, if you haven't already had your fill!  Grin
If bitcoin price starts to increase, and the FUD news is officially put to rest, we can begin our journey North, slaying bears and short term speculators along the way. We are very much so in a market of short term investors right now. 200million XEM sold in 2 days wasn't all sold to long term Hodlers!
As price moves up, we hit certain thresholds where once one short term bag dumps, more and more follow suit. Resulting in a waves pattern on the charts. This is exactly what I expected, though I thought the median price would be higher.
Additionally, news outlets are not reporting an accurate status of Hacker's coin. I have written to several places directly - including Coinbase. We will see if they follow up on the info I provided and put out a better news story.

@KloNEM - I'm guessing that Lots of people expected the same thing, and there were temporary buy walls. When things didn't immediately moon, they removed buy orders. Now is opportunity for them to buy cheaper, as FUD sellers, or short termers are looking to dump, and get in on TRX or something else with rapid gains right now.
General sentiment is that NEM will show great returns - but everyone is asking WHEN!?
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 22, 2018, 08:40:08 PM
binance officially declared the news from nikkei.com as fake.
What is crazy, is when I shared this. There were fake "Official Binance" reports claiming the news was fake. Glad that the official Official Binance report came out!  Cheesy

@codemanX - I've received 616 XEM total in donations.

Hopefully this is the final update on the hacker until he's caught:

Hacker funds are drained, as well as all of his large customers. There are some addresses scattered about which have trivial amounts of XEM. - 6k here, 200 there, 9k under the rug, and 32 in the ashtray.
The rest has been sold on exchanges!
This is the final hacker address. His savings fund for when he goes broke: >>HERE<<

Bitcoin.com reports that NEM foundation stops tracking coins stolen from Coincheck. Are there any information why?
Here is the link to the article https://news.bitcoin.com/nem-foundation-stops-tracking-coins-stolen-coincheck/

There really wasn't much need of it anymore. NEM is public ledger anyway, so can still track funds. Mosiac didn't stop hacker from laundering XEM.

This is nuts: https://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXMZO28441290S8A320C1MM8000/

Japan issues warning to Binance for servicing Japanese traders without KYC. If you translate it, it says "If they do not stop business, we will criminal charges in collaboration with police authorities"
Immediate tanking of most crypto following this report. :/ Right went we were getting off to good growth! Some say it's fake news. Also possible that site was hacked to post it. Don't know for sure right now!

edit/ It appears to be true: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-22/bitcoin-falls-after-report-that-binance-faces-warning-in-japan

@bisti-  Most people went to sleep, and removed their buy walls. We are chewing through the last of the dumps, and the short termer's speculations.

I was tracking funds so the hacker couldn't stash funds in scattered addresses to avoid rich list, then come back to haunt us later. Also to encourage the NEM community.
Lots of newcomers come to this forum from google search and just read. It is good to have important information like the end of a dump readily available.

We are up 7% since I mentioned green candles. If you would have bought then, that is a significant increase in value.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 22, 2018, 07:58:03 AM
You seem a little bit too excited for something that jumped like 150 satoshi in about 6-7 hours

Well you are sure a jolt of positive energy aren't you!? Thanks! I can use the encouragement! I've been awake for many many hours tracking hacker funds and making sure there's none stashed. Hacker has been major burden on NEM community for way too long.
Cool to know that you're passionate about dissing people that are passionate about meaningful things. I'll keep giving you material to dis, too. - just donate some XEM for my effort. Address is in my sig.

@KloNEM - Polo has nem wallet issues all the time. Same with Cryptopia. Usually just takes a day or two for them to fix it.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 22, 2018, 01:45:02 AM
See the buy walls forming on the exchanges? The pressure is building! Once this flood is over, we launch! Here is Binances
Hope you have your XEM stockpiled safely, helmet double buckled, and a toothy grin to flash your significant other.

Less than 8mill Now only 3mill  1mill 740k left in hackers hot wallet! -  Soon we see if he starts draining 16mill wallet.
Hacker put a notice on his onion site stating that this is the last of the reserve he's selling.

And the green candles are lining up! Hacker hasn't touched 16mill account yet either.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 21, 2018, 08:58:53 PM
Another hacker update.
We're looking at about 12mill left in the hacker's hot wallet. He's been draining it at a rate of ~2.6mil per hour.

If he doesn't start draining from his cold wallet, we should see the dump ending in ~5hours. (7:30AM Server time)
The current rate of price drop puts us at around 3100 sats at that time, if buys do not increase.

If hacker begins dumping from cold wallet at same rate, we are expected to see the the dump end in ~12 hours. (2:30PM Server time)
If buys do not increase, we may hit 3000 satoshi.

It is possible, but unlikely that we have missed a transaction that went to a 3rd wallet. Myself and others are checking every transaction from hackers wallets, and following them through a series of other wallets, and eventually into exchanges.

It appears the hacker is using some sort of mixer software to generate addresses and automate transfers between them, as well as trade bots on exchange accounts created with stolen or fake IDs. Most of the dumps are happening on Bittrex and Huobi.

This just might be our last day for cheap XEM.

edit/ @fragout he must be using a series of accounts so they don't get flagged, or so that he can stay one step ahead. He is not depositing extra large sums at a time, but running them through address mixers, and making small deposits at a time.
It is possible that he is buying his own XEM to add an extra level of trickery, but after debating the issue at length with others, we all pretty much concluded that it would be stupid for him to do that. This hacker needs to unload the XEM, and never touch it again. Simply by having a xem or xem wallet, or any interest in xem, he puts himself in a tiny minority of the population. - And if he were buying back the xem, the market price would reflect that.
The hacker/s are clearly smart. S/he or They will most likely mix the BTC from sales into various other coins, run them through tons of addresses, and eventually turn it into fiat of some sort.
/edit
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 21, 2018, 04:58:26 PM
Hacker Wallet addresses:

Main one being drained: NBEAUKXJLBJXXTPXN2OPIX3LZQWWZA56IQO2P5S3
One that's been static: NDABPHWFPH7KL5FADCW66V4GYLVXHKYQIPWL4G2B

edit/
The obvious implication that most assume is that at the of the end of dumping, we would see a price increase. Seasoned traders agree, and are planning for it.
The price point the hacker is dumping at is ~3300 sats. These same traders are buying in that range. - But I am sure many will dump somewhere along the line as price increases. However the effect short term traders have, should be like a drip in comparison to the hackers flood.

And thank you to whoever all has donated!  Smiley Smiley

I feel like it's important to correct and clarify some things I shared in the past. Most importantly the issue of catapult release.
Mostly due to language barriers, I made a mistake in my assumptions. I've since been corrected by some within NEM foundation.

Lon Wong said catapult source will be released this quarter. However, he was meaning the mijin source - which DOES run on catapult code. Mijin is a private chain. It's primary use is for businesses to use an in-house chain that can communicate with the main NEM public chain.

Additionally, I was told that Lon may have meant by the end of the 4th month, which would be April. I guess we will find out soon enough!
This is still great news! It will make it much easier for businesses to use mijin and likely the main NEM chain as well. It should draw the attention of large enterprise seeking to improve their current in-house operations.

Mijin chain can reduce operational costs for many businesses by a significant degree. - No need to take backups, no need for extensive hardware, no need for elaborate security software, amongst so many things! Even things we might not consider right away - like a business no longer having a need for file-cabinets, thus saving on floor space, time spent finding paperwork, loss of documents, etc.

With all that said. Catapult implementation on the public chain is unlikely to occur before the 3rd quarter, which begins July 1st. However, don't bank on this exact date, as it will most likely require more time. At the same time, I wouldn't wait until then to plan an investment in NEM.

Even with the current state of NEM, we have great advantages over other smart-asset blockchains, including Ethereum. Many smart asset chains aren't even a functional product yet, and most don't expect to be this year.

Just wanted to update everyone here on the hackers funds. He has nearly drained the bulk of XEM. About ~20 mill remaining in the wallet he's draining now. + An additional 16mill that hasn't been moved. Maybe the 16mil is his retirement fund?  Grin
So he's almost out! That is a significant drop from the 130mil he had yesterday!

It sure seems like we would see some price movement upward once he's done flooding the market! Especially with NEM being exposed to so many new people, on Binance. I have been surprised how many traders hadn't even heard of NEM!
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 20, 2018, 09:15:03 PM
The hacker is still moving XEM from account to account, and eventually into exchanges - primarily onto Bittrex. He probably has stolen identities and whatever else necessary to create the accounts. Pretty good sign that he hasn't been busted.
Last I checked there was 70mil XEM remaining in his last wallet, with ~30mil still in exchanges.
Hopefully he dumps it all sooner, rather than later. I think we are all ready for thought of him still having XEM to be over with.

I think it's best if we all look at the bright side of this, whether or not the hacker gets away.
1. He crashed price, giving us excellent buy opportunities.
2. Drew much attention to exchange security, resulting in actions to strengthen it.
3. One could claim he played a robin-hood role of sorts, redistributing tax (fees) to us lowly plebes.
4. Proved NEM blockchain tech. - A. It can't or won't be manipulated by a big boss or a government. B. It can be traced, even when laundered, and even by average joes like myself. C. NEM chain can securely handle large volumes of transactions even without Catapult implemented yet!

Good news! XEM is listed on Binance since today. Here is the official press release article on Binance blog https://support.binance.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001903091 There are XEM/BNB, XEM/BTC and XEM/ETH pairs tradeable.

Oh really? No way! Now that's what I call news!

And Bittrex isn't going to delist a top coin!?  Shocked shocker.

Only one thing: who does the chewing, while we hodl ? thats an oxymoron  Smiley

The world doesn't revolve around this tiny forum. Lots of people are chewing it up. Like pacman. "NEM NEM NEM NEM NEM"
So far 24hr volume is: $325,687,000

Just found out hacker still has around 90mil XEM remaining. At current price, that is 10% of the todays volume. - And keep in mind most of that volume was in 12 hours. And large portions of it within minutes.

I probably shouldn't scream hodl, but at this point, it's very hard to scalp, and it's anybodies guess what happens next. It would take just one big player to drop a buy bomb, and the race would be on again. The atmosphere is charged!
The market was surprisingly resilient thru this though! We lost 3-4cents while millions of XEM were being dumped. Once hacker is dried up for sure, it's likely we'll gain some ground again. Will probably be bumpy tho, as the day traders do their thing.
