2  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitcoin exchange startup: where do I start with marketing? on: May 08, 2015, 01:09:04 PM
Hey, my name's Amose, I decided to start my own Bitcoin exchange and run it from my home in the RSA.

It's coming along and I'm starting to think further down the line. Here's the thing: I'm good (somewhat)
at programming but my marketing skills are similar to those of a 70 year old granny, so I basically have
no idea how I'm gonna promote it when it's launched. I want to ask for your help to find a good sources
to get some basic understanding of internet marketing before I launch. Preferably free or very cheap
to get access to. Thanks!

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Competition forces cryptocurrency developers to be smarter on: March 29, 2015, 02:15:22 PM
Looks like a good step forward, the time'll show how it's going to work.
6  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Win 3 BTC in new great contest from Cointelegraph and Liberty.me on: February 27, 2015, 02:30:11 PM
It's from this contest that I found out about the child milliomaire from Dubai.

Fascinating. My vote's for the lucky little guy.

What about  Christopher Koch?

I love Koch's story.
7  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Cointelegraph's First Anniversary Auction - great chance to advertise on: February 15, 2015, 06:55:11 AM
So, we have a day until the end, right?
Yeah, but I'm not sure about the time zone.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZiftrCOINs - what do you think? on: February 07, 2015, 07:12:33 AM
I believe the coin can be mined according to the initial whitepaper.

They say there'll be no asics, just cpu mining.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZiftrCOINs - what do you think? on: February 06, 2015, 07:13:25 AM
I believe the coin can be mined according to the initial whitepaper.

Looks like they're going to have special pools for people to mine it. But not yet.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZiftrCOINs - what do you think? on: February 03, 2015, 12:20:50 PM
Yes. I bought it. It looks 100x better than any other ICO out there and there is real company behind it. So..

only time will tell the rest.

I thought so too. Have you seen this? Looks like it was fun.

My friend was there and said it was really good.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XDN] DarkNote [ANN]. duck goes Dark. on: September 19, 2014, 07:57:16 PM
XDN = first encrypted anonymous untraceable messenger? I doubt there is any other word you can add so that it sounds cooler. Awesome job!
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recent Court docs show Silk Road and DPR were sunk by a leaky login CAPTCHA on: September 07, 2014, 01:39:18 PM
Link to the whole declaration of FBI agent that lead the SR investigation http://ia700603.us.archive.org/21/items/gov.uscourts.nysd.422824/gov.uscourts.nysd.422824.57.0.pdf

TL;DR:
- CAPTCHA on SR site wasn't configured correctly with TOR and leaked the IP of the server
- Server was in Iceland, Icelandic authorities helped the FBI to get server backups etc
- In that backups there were IPs to other backup servers (some USA, some foreign) and FBI got that too
- At that point, Ulbricht was "only" the lead suspect
- They used pen registers (routing only, no contents) to confirm the identity by checking when he was online on the ISP + IPs/ports used and when he was online at the SR forum
- After that they arrested him

wtf is a 'pen register'?
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Average Joe thinks about Bitcoin on: September 07, 2014, 01:38:06 PM
The comments at the bottom of this article are hilarious.

Many of them seem to echo this sentiment:
"Bitcoin started by an unknown in 2009 and people are buying into it. I think there is going to be a lot people either very broke or very disappointed in the end. Someone is making money here and it probably isn't the average Joe."

Misinformed? Clearly.
Knee-jerk reaction? Definitely.
Should be dismissed? I'm not sure.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MIT’s bookstore to accept Bitcoins from students on: September 07, 2014, 01:37:04 PM
Here's a fun thought: the price can remain stagnant, or even drop, and all this transacting through Bitcoin network can continue.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top US Colleges Begin Offering Bitcoin Courses on: September 07, 2014, 01:35:01 PM
Stanford had a cryptocurrency course last year, don't forget! (I believe stanford was the first)
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Predictions : Mining of new bitcoins stops tommorow on: September 07, 2014, 01:30:47 PM
Miners fees make up .3% of the money miners make, meaning that if the fees raised by 100x then miners would still only make a third of what they make now. Which in fantasy land means that miners just gracefully exit and cease to exist, but really means you now have a drop of hash rate and also a group of people with machines that make hashrate that got fucked over by bitcoin and have no wish for it to succeed.
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which Wallet should be suggested to a newbie? on: September 07, 2014, 01:29:45 PM
For iOS, breadwallet.

Strongly agree. And I say that as someone who has played around with all of the available iOS wallets. Deterministic plus beautiful and incredibly easy to use interface.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: September 07, 2014, 01:27:20 PM
I fail to even understand his example. So when a central bank exists other companies, investment firms and banks are unable to rob you blind? Eh yes they can. He's mixing up arguments, like so many people. Decide what point you want to make and research that.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will we stop the evil free market Chinese? on: September 07, 2014, 01:26:23 PM
How in the world do they control the humidity? Of course I guess this equipment does not need to last long. A year maybe?
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The Worst Year for BTC? on: September 06, 2014, 11:03:23 AM
1 year = 12 months. BTC price is still ~4x higher than last year at the same time.

If you discount the huge mainstream media hype that happened last year, temporarily and artificially inflating the price to $1000, you would be able to make the case for a continuing upward trend over the life of BTC.
