1  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Faucets that do not pay on: September 08, 2014, 08:21:38 PM
There are always more and more faucets that don't pay but we know that there are many other better ways to earn some coins, avoid faucets if you can.

Agree that there are many other ways to earn BTC, but good faucets are an extra source of income.

Great fun game, but handicap sux, withdrawal limitations and fees are too high. I regret putting any money on it. Basically a smart covered scam.

if you find any bitcoin related website which turns to be scam just notify guys on badbitcoin.org so they will put it on their list.. good to check badbitcoin first to get an idea about ponzi schemes and scam sites.
It is a scam! And it has recently been reported to badbitcoin.org.

If you are not smart enough to realize that Ritch is part of the scam, well, now you know. If you invest any money here, you are an idiot and deserve to loose your money.

The reason of suspended accounts could be: No investment, only free play

Anyway I guess I already wasted too much of my time in this thread because is now so clear golden-cows is, at least, acting shady, not to say fraudly, towards investors.

I did'nt. Even over the long "maintenances" I got my milk. So far I lost nothing. On the blue "Paid to user"-Link you can see: They pay.
I guess, they need investors but not so much free-players because of calculation.

@m3ta

See my previous post, #8 on this thread. That's why I switched to other p2pool. I would suggest you to look @ http://p2pool-nodes.info/ for a pool with 0% fee and low latency and confirm that you also have low latency against it (e.g. ping response lower than 200ms) and use that one.

I've been mining in this pool to test how it works. I was getting some shares, until sometime today. Even though I've mining with an avg of 47-48 Gh/s for more than a week, I am now showing "no shares yet" as predicted payout. I don't remember seen that except for the first couple of hours after I started mining. Is that normal?

After following the compilation instructions detailed in the file windows-build.txt included with the source, I was able to compile BFGMiner with Open CL support. I was wondering if there is an "appendix" on how to compile it for Windows 64 bits.

Thanks

there is documentation in the github manuals for the U1 usb device. It relies on a weird mathematical method of several combined binary strings from the hex code.  Once sorted out its *relatively* straight forward to calculat eany frequency you want, to about 1.75MHz precision

Thanks for the information. Fancy math indeed! I wasn't able to "reverse engineer" the calculation (ie take a desired frequency and find the Hex value that I should use on the mining script) but I was able to calculate valid values for all the 4 digit Hex numbers. I found a lot that were supposed to be valid but they didn't work when using my U2 with BFGMiner. Maybe my math was wrong or maybe the U2 don't take all valid values in the formula. It's more probable my math was wrong, since I got some weird "valied" values, like 306.1429 or something like that. Will keep experimenting and create a list of valid HEX/frequency combinations.

12  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: May 27, 2014, 04:42:35 AM
on another note, is anyone having any problems with their api? I am able to make the "listings" request just fine, but when I try to make any other request I am getting a 500 "internal server error". Their support took 2 weeks to respond by saying "That's odd, have you tried using a different browser? You can view the progress of the listing in your payment table if have invested", demonstrating that they didn't really read my question, since I am not accessing the server through a browser but rather through their api. I asked them what they meant, that wasw four weeks ago and they still haven't responded. Api halp anyone? hackbyte?

P.S. I started off joining btcjam for investment purposes, but soon I am hoping to use the api for research purposes for my masters thesis.

Same problem here. Reported to support like a week ago and never heard back from them. Nevertheless I got an email from someone (I guess marketing) asking me why I haven't make any loans yet.

Their Bitcointalk user verification process does not work either.

Upon further review, their arbitration process for when someone defaults is useless, unless you are short of toilet paper. If someone from Brazil defaults me for a couple of grands, I wont spend 100k in lawyers to recover the money.

If I ever recover the BTC from the dip-the-toe-in-the-water loans that I made, I will take my money back and run away as fast as I can in the opposite direction.

Does any one knows the logic behind the Hex values for the frequencies in the S1 miners? I understand Hex #s and little-endian and big-endian notation, but it still does not make sense to me. E.g. the jump from 200 to 250 to 300 adds x0200 to the Hex value, so they go from x0781 to x0981 to x0b81. Logic indicates that the jump to 350 should require a value of x0d81 instead of x4e81.

Thanks

14  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCjam - Any Thoughts or Experiances on: May 24, 2014, 11:41:14 PM
I've been playing around with BTCJam for the last couple of months. I have about a 10% default rate, but the loans are around 30% so I am netting 20% for the time being.

I really like the idea of p-2-p lending (ala prosper.com), but I am just too worried that the BTC will vanish the instant I put some real numbers into the account. My gut tells me these BTCJam guys are legit, however.

You really think you are getting a 20% return!?!?! If you say you are getting 30% per loan and you have a 10% default rate and then do 30-10 = 20, then you are dumber than a 4th grader, since even my 4th grade son knows that's not how you calculate it. Following your logic, if you have a 30% default rate, you will be even. Well ... nope.

Let's look at an example.

For simplicity (it seems that you will need that) let's say you make 10 loans of $100 each, at 30%. Three of your loans (30%) will default, and the other 7 will pay back $130 each. You invested $1,000 and you got back $910 (7 x $130). That's a 9% loss. Welcome to the wonderful world of financial math.

16  Bitcoin / Mining support / Antminer S1 - Managing more than 3 pools from the web interface on: May 24, 2014, 05:16:38 PM
I'm sorry if this is a repost, but I couldn't find it. Moderators, feel free to delete if it is. Also, I'm not sure if this belongs to Mining support or Hardware. Following the line of the post I mention bellow I posted here, but also feel free to move it to Hardware if you deem it appropriate.

Inspired by this thread http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395721, and specially by n4spd's great addition that allows you to change the pool's quotas from the web interface (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=395721.msg5452008#msg5452008, message #15), I decided to try to see if it was possible to manage more than 3 pools from the web interface.

I'm happy to report that it could be done quite easily. If you were able to do the changes described in that post, no extra skills are required. The following steps are for adding a 4th pool, but they can be repeated for N number of pools. I haven't tested it for more than 5, so I'm not sure how high can it go.

1) First you need to vi (edit) file /etc/init.d/cgminer. Basically, copy anything that is there for pools 1-3 and change it to 4. The following is a list of changes I made, with the action (A=added line, M=modified line) and the line number where I made the change between []. E.g. the first line means add "local _pool4url" on line 22. The line numbers could be slightly different in your system.
Code:
     [A22] local _pool4url
    [A23] local _pool4user
    [A24] local _pool4pw
    [A47] config_get _pool4url default pool4url
    [A48] config_get _pool4user default pool4user
    [A49] config_get _pool4pw default pool4pw

The next 4 lines are an extension of n4spd's mod
Code:
     [A82] if [ "$_pool4url" != "" -a "$_pool4user" != "" -a "$_pool4pw" != "" ]; then
    [A83]     POOL4="$pool_switch $_pool4url -O $_pool4user:$_pool4pw"
    [A84] fi
    [M91] PARAMS="$AOPTIONS $POOL1 $POOL2 $POOL3 $POOL4 $_pb $custom_option --api-listen --api-network"

2) Then vi /usr/lib/lua/luci/model/cbi/cgminer, same concept.
Code:
    [A18] pool4url = conf:option(Value, "pool4url", translate("Pool 4"))
    [A19] pool4user = conf:option(Value, "pool4user", translate("Pool4 worker"))
    [A20] pool4pw = conf:option(Value, "pool4pw", translate("Pool4 password"))

You don't need to reboot. Now when you go to the Miner Configuration tab you'll see the options to enter information for a 4th pool.

You'll also see it on the Miner Status :-).

I hope it helps. If you like it, consider contributing a small donation. 40% of every donation will be forwarded to giletto and n4spd (20% each) or the charity of their choice for the inspiration.

17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer (CPU-only) on: May 23, 2014, 11:23:58 PM
I think the main problem with adding an API is that it would greatly complicate the code base. Luckily cpuminer starts up very quickly, so a wrapper script can usually do the job pretty well.
True, will look into something like that. It will probably be Java, my C skills are beyond rusty.

That's what tee is for. Or you could tail -f the file where the output is stored.
Thanks, will look into it.

This could indeed be useful. I will think about it, but keep in mind that the changes required to implement this properly are nontrivial (cpuminer does not currently keep track of submitted shares).
I think a simple append of the same line that goes to standard output (e.g. timestamp accepted: X/X (XX.XX%), XX.XX khash/s (yay!!!)) to a separate file will be perfect (at least for what I'm trying to keep track). Any other information related to the specific share could be a bonus for some.

Personally, I think cpuminer was never designed to be interactive... and I actually like it the way it is, because I value simplicity. But then again, this is probably a matter of personal taste, just like the old vi-vs-Emacs debate.

(By the way, I just learned that there's a name for the kind of user interface that cgminer sports: TUI, i.e. Textual User Interface.)
Fair enough. You got your tidbit of information for today :-).

Thanks again. And I wish I would have stayed current with my C programming, would love to peek on the code and help a little.

18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer (CPU-only) on: May 23, 2014, 06:16:53 PM
It does seems to be faster. Don't have hard #s yet, but I estimate 5-10% faster.
The hashing code hasn't changed since version 2.3.2, as you can see for yourself from the commit history. Any hash rate variation you might see is purely accidental.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. Maybe I got too exited :-).

Any chance of adding more options and features? Like API, logging, dynamic screen info (a la BFGMiner or cpuminer-gc3355).
I'm not sure what you mean by "logging", given that cpuminer has always produced a log.
Regarding APIs and integrated graphical interfaces, they will probably never happen, as I don't think they conform to the KISS philosophy.

I agree with KISS. But that means not adding things when they are not needed. Of course, what's needed varies a lot from person to person. Let me clarify what I meant in my previous post.

Re API, I think it could be quite useful when you want to manage several PCs remotely. I currently use a combination of proxy (to switch pools), scripts (to restart the miner with # of threads = 50% of cores when someone is going to use that computer) and manual log review to monitor the status. An API that could let you check the status, switch pools and # of threads would be ideal for that.

Re logging I'm using the 2 >> logfile.log (Windows) at the end of the line to log to a file. This creates the log file but does not output anything to screen. A -L option like BFGMiner allows you to write to a log file while still seeing the output on the screen, which is sometimes useful. Also a --sharelog option allows you to output the accepted shares on a different file for easier reviewing.

By dynamic screen I didn't mean a GUI. I'm not sure if you can call what the other miners have a "graphical interface", but I was thinking more like the options to manage pools and processors without having to restart the miner with different parameters. An API could solve this issues too.

Maybe, once I mine some coins, I can bribe you include some of these :-).

BTW, thanks for this great miner!
