[ Most cards have a dual bios switch. If you screw up one, just flip the switch to the other. You can fix the bad one (if you have dual bios).
even for cards without the dual bios you can usually recover from a bad flash via using onboard video or use a second card like an old pci card to see what you are doing. usually.

forking to present theft after the fact will appeal to those who like centralized stuff for "protection." whether the centralized authority is a government, foundation or single person is the only real difference here. ergo, the forked ethereum will appeal to some mindsets.
purists who want absolutely no interference (like fixing User Error or hacks) will like etc, btc. if it happens, it happens. thats all there is to it.
in crypto there is room for both kinds. imo, of course.

Good info. may be why I could get the 16x - 8x slots working but not the 1x. Would be nice to fill the rig beyond 4 cards. Thanks.. will give it a try.
You're welcome. I believe it's the same for you as well with only 4 cards. Switching it to x8/x4/x4 should get the job done. I would not have known either without a good friend of mine providing the info. EDIT: Not sure of what mobo you have. Don't forget to "save" the settings after you change them before exiting out of it. Blind leading the blind- Changing the 16x slots to 8/4/4 will do absolutely nothing for this problem. There are a lot of things that can cause that issue but that is not it. The lanes are decided by the mobo and more importantly the Chipset on the mobo. What mobo is being used? Also what type of risers are being used? Have you tried reinstalling the driver with all the GPU's connected? Have you looked in the Device Manager to see how many are being recognized? some mobos will disable certain slots depending on what other slots are used. for example my gigabyte z97x mobo will disable the 3 x1 slots if the x4 (x16 physical) slot has a card in it.

Dumbass tax is brilliant, and I will be using this phrase liberally in the altcoin section from now on. It pretty much sums up this entire sphere, lol. Thank you sir my dad used this phrase on me when i was a youngster. i still pay it here and there but thankfully, less than i used to.

as has been mentioned, wonder if that older gear just goes to places with cheap electric.
is it possible some farms keep a "reserve" of hashing power not running so as not to influence the difficulty upward and compete against themselves so to speak. if they have a good profit margin they could do this to make the equipment last longer. phil you mentioned something along those lines a while back? if so this price drop is not a problem for them, they just fire up reserve hash to make the expenses for the month.
for remodeling.. heh as i learn from doing a new project i almost want to redo the thing i just did to make it even better..

You must use 15.12 AMD drivers with this miner
It worked flawlessly until now, I think the minimum is 15.12. i think the deal is its been extensively tested with 15.12. other versions may work though. i think for rx 4x0 cards you need a much later version to those cards to fire up. im at 16.something on win7pro x64 with no problems on r9 390.

phil, that kitchen looks GREAT! redid our kitchen a few years ago, not a complete rebuild like yours looks like. we reheat pizza in it. we like it

congrats veves!
phil.. that bitfinex thing truly sucks. hopefully you will come out ok.

And all that with no devs? lol
All ETH developers are automatically also, whether they want or not, ETC developers, given that it is essentially identical open source code. So what you are saying is that ETC being the Criminals coin they are stealing all the ETH devs hard work. thats what "open source" means. do you know how much in cryptoland is open source and build on or with common code? miners, pools, coins? So there is no problems that the ETC is 51% attacked by some people as that is built in the protocol? children will be children..

I upgraded to 5.3 and now my rig crashes after 15-30min roll back to 5.1v2 which was stable before.. could it be that stratum consume more energy or so? stratum allows more work to be done as its a more efficient way of getting the work. ie less time wasted between work assignments (jobs? unsure what the exact terminology is). wouldnt think more than a few percent though. depends on the internet connection to a point.

both could possibly have uses.
the forked one will appeal to regular people who are used to clawbacks and reversible transactions. ie mundanes who depend on babysitters to control their lives.
the classic unforked version has the support of purists who like it for making a stand for the immutability of real blockchains.
i have a bit of both. if one or both tank, oh well. if one or both continue/take off, well good for me.

Your BIOS will say somthing like, "turn off embedded graphics when gpu detected = y-n"
You need to do this before you connect any gpu to mobo and not after.
depends on the mobo/os maybe. just built an eth miner with a gigabyte z97x/celeron 1840 with integrated graphics. took the mobo out of the box, plugged the r9 390 in, hooked the monitor to the 390 instad of the mobo, installed ubuntu 15.10 and the amd video driver and started mining with the same config that the other builds have. no platform switch needed for me. claymores dual miner.

i third this opinion. i stayed away from hardware wallets for a long time just watching, with paper wallets as my goto storage.
then got the trezor.
i will get another one. other hw wallets may be available but the trezor is tried and proven. i feel safe entrusting my coins with it.
btw still have paper wallets for long term cold storage. but thats just stubberness heh

yeah 120 is fine.
im paying for the ongoing support, convenience, security and size. that takes a r&d budget that gets built in to the final price.
