761  Economy / Economics / Re: The $1 Million Dollar Bitcoin on: November 03, 2015, 02:06:34 PM
It seems that people have forgotten that bitcoin still has flaws that need to be worked on under the hood... all of this price increase is due to hype and the "fear of missing out" effect. It might reach past $1-2K, but at that point, people will be questioning why they are buying bitcoins for this much and not getting a quality product at the end of it.  So no, I don't think that bitcoin will go up to $1 million, unless there are changes to the code.
762  Economy / Economics / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Will Replace Dollar Soon? on: November 03, 2015, 01:59:36 PM
You have to look at it this way, there will probably be another big bubble coming up and the price will sky rocket and then ultimately pop at some price point; which will A) make people lose a lot of money (again) and/or B) make governments feel the need to restrict bitcoin or other crypto currencies even farther to help prevent this from happening and from allowing the majority of people to realize the power of a finite money system.
763  Economy / Speculation / Re: $700 by Nov 17? on: November 03, 2015, 02:19:17 AM
I remember talking to bitcoiners in October 2013. People said "Maybe bitcoin can go to $300!"  They guessed low because bitcoin had a long, flat summer.

After the bubble, everyone guessed that bitcoin would finish 2014 at $2000 or $5000 or $10,000. The Year of Bitcoin. They guessed high because bitcoin had just bubbled.

People are going to be wrong again. This time, they are going to underestimate the peak. Why? They have grown accustomed to the long bear market.

So are you saying that this "bubble" bitcoin seems to be experiencing will go above or below the $1K mark?  It's really hard to tell with all of this because there are a lot of factors to consider with the uncertainty of the MMM ponzi or the speculative price of the halving coming up soon... who knows what will happen, but it's been a fun ride this far.
764  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 03, 2015, 02:14:00 AM
Rough couple months for Monero. Why do people think? Ethereum sucking up all of the alt-coin allocation in people's crypto portfolios? If so, that should pass.

Here is the 30 day altlist from bitcoinwisdom. TLDR: virtually every alt is down big against BTC, but anything down <33% is up vs USD. XMR is #4 on this list. LTC is #1 and interestingly has lost the least (not counting the noise at the bottom). The +39% is not really an alt it is GHS (BTC mining contract). ETH not shown but is down about 25%. It is interesting to speculate about why all alts are doing so poorly. Is it just BTC sucking up all the attention money with its rally, or is there something else to it?

Honestly I can see it being everyone just hopping on the BTC train while it's going up, plus you have the halving coming up, so people would want to grab as much relatively "cheap" coins while they can when speculating what the price will be during and after.  But honestly after the steam bitcoin seems to posses right now and come crashing back down, I would speculate that a good chunk of bitcoins will go back purchasing other altcoins other people seem to have promise; either that, or a new pump and dump coin that will attract attention to it.

But like you said, at least we are keeping above that high percentage of dumpage so we can at least maintain our fiat price for right now... not that it really matters, just more of a small "win".
765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC in your country on: November 03, 2015, 01:46:39 AM
Im sure if you ask around in any country, most people will not have heard of Bitcoin yet. In Indonesia, if you've got a decent English level, you could make a really worth your time wage by posting in here. It's pretty amazing. Bitcoin can change lives, this would have been impossible before we were still tied to international bank transactions. Now they could work on the side for some Bitcoins which is way higher on their country. In my country unfortunately sig campaigns are nothing but a small extra.
what is your country sir ?
yeah right I tried to ask about bitcoin to one of the people in the city and employees of the bank as well, but they dont know

and one, If you are fluent in English we can get a lot of money here, Tongue
but here in philippines earnings in signature campaign every week is a great help and you can earn more if you got a high rank and theres no limit, your earning every week can buy foods for almost a month if you can only make a 100 post and up.

Honestly this is some crazy stuff if you can feed your family only by doing a signature campaign! How poor are people over there for God's sake??

You definitely don't have any idea how much is the cost of living of poor people on third world countries. Here on PH 500-1000 PHP ( roughly $10-$20 ) is enough for some people to feed their family in a week, some may go lower than that. It is really possible to feed some poor family with sig campaign earnings every week. Personally our family (with 7 members) can spend at least 3000 PHP ($60+) a week for our food depending if there's an occasion, will be less if there's none.

Don't underestimate us , Filipinos, how we budget our income Tongue

Man, that would be nice if I could afford a weeks worth of food of signature campaigns lol... but seriously, when you think about it, how great is this?  I mean what seems to be worthless in one country could feed a family of 4 just by posting on some forum?? That's insane... I mean, think of the possibilities of charities and fundraising projects for developing countries around the world.
766  Economy / Gambling / Re: After losing all your Bitcoin on: November 03, 2015, 01:40:18 AM
Am I the only person here that feels relieved when they lose all their Bitcoins due to gambling ? I don't have to deal with the constant planning and dreaming in my head that maybe this time I will recoup my losses. I find that I also sleep like a baby afterwards.
Really?  You didn't feel angry, or sad, or depressed?  Wow, you must have some sort of super human powers. Roll Eyes

I've experienced this once a while back, losing quite a few bitcoins from dice sites... I just felt really depressed for a bit then woke up the next day wondering "wait, why am I sad?" and then realizing.... "oh right."

I feel even more sad/depressed when it's not just a gambling site, but something like a ponzi "doubler" site... a while back, I thought, "mehh, what the hell... I mean it's something I can 'afford' to lose" ... then lost it when he ran away.  I didn't think much of it at first, but then I really started to feel absolutely idiotic for trying something like that again (have done it twice now, worst decisions ever).
767  Economy / Speculation / Re: $700 by Nov 17? on: November 03, 2015, 01:29:13 AM
By the end of November it could definitely be possible for the price to rise so far as $450, but $700 is a pipe dream and a dangerous one at that... a price spike like that will in fact cause a major correction, which might make it go past $270 or so.

tell me, who would sell at $270?

it might drop all the way back to current levels, because a lot of people bought at this price, but everyone who would sell at $270 has already sold even now, so why would they wait until after the price has risen to $700

that doesnt make any sense at all.

Just because "a lot" of people bought at $270, doesn't mean that "everyone" bought at $270... I mean hell, I remember buying some at $250 and though I was late to the party.  And also, I don't think you can just generally say that "everyone" who has bought at that price has sold by now, I mean technically I haven't really sold yet... What you said is too broad of a statement, so therefore to me, your post doesn't really make sense at all. Tongue
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin 'real money' to you? on: November 03, 2015, 01:23:08 AM
I feel bitcoin is more 'real' than normal fiat money. Which can be tinkered with and produced with quantitative easing endlessly.
Bitcoin is constant and transparent, unlike government money, we have no idea how many new banknotes are printed everyday.

This is why I believe that any PoW coin out there that has limited supply is better than fiat in every way imaginable... people have been lead to believe that there NEEDS to be a third party to control the money supply and print out money when they seem fit, which is the biggest ruse placed on humanity since, well, ever.

This is a good post ^^^^

We need gradual price increass to an extent. Even today is ok, I'd rather slowly go up now than have a 100% price increase to 700 within 2 weeks. That kind of shit just isn't sustainable. Maybe 700 by the halving next summer is a realistic & safe reality/hope.

I truly believe that all this price increase is people trying to gather as much bitcoins as possible before the halving speculation pricing begins... Now that is going to be a shit show in itself, and the exchange sites might collapse from so much traffic coming in lol... but seriously, a long with the sketchiness of the MMM ponzi thing that no one really seems to know the actual truth of what their intention are coming out of china; I think that a majority of people are just eager to grab as many coins as possible for the cheapest price that they can afford at one given time.
770  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there a difference between buying shares in the stock exchange and gambling? on: November 03, 2015, 12:34:37 AM
I guess any type of investment is a form of gambling. The casino type gambling is just less sophisticated

I wouldn't necessarily say that it would be "less sophisticated" because there are a lot of strategies to a lot of casino games... maybe not dice per se, but poker and black jack hold some sophistication to it.

772  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What makes people so addicted to gambling? on: October 31, 2015, 07:45:51 PM
What makes people so addicted to gambling?

Do you know anyone who is heavily into gambling?

i am Curious to know the different views about this above questions

It's about people believing in a pipe dream that if they go "all in" on a game they can double or quadruple their money... it's why people play the lottery, just putting in a small amount and getting a huge return.  This is alright in moderation, but when overdone it's horrible... people hang on to that dream as long as possible and therefore becomes addicting.  It's all they think about, and when they run out of funds they think that that if they had some more money, that they would definitely rebound and make up what they lost.

Digging a deep hole like that and trying to make it out is what keep people addicted, as long as they don't accept the fact that they lost and can't move on in life.
773  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 31, 2015, 06:23:04 PM
Wow, did anyone else just see that 500 BTC sell on bitstamp?  This is going to get rediculous,  hopefully we can get a stable footing soon... just not so sure about this rise any more...
774  Economy / Gambling / Re: Betting on Elections on: October 31, 2015, 05:39:59 PM
How many people here want Trump to win?  I always find it so funny people get so upset about politics and they know they have the right answer.  How the heck do you know you have the right answer when you don't even have any idea who the person is you are voting for.

It will make little difference if Trump wins or not. The US national debt level will keep on rising, wealth will be distorted to rich people. If Trump supports bitcoin, then I want him to win.

Trump doesn't look to me like a guy who will support Bitcoin. IMO Hillary will support it not beacause shes so smart but because she has smart advisers around. We'll see though. But I think Hillary will win anyway.

Hillary won't even get the democratic ticket to run IMO... I have a strange feeling it's going to be between Trump and Sanders, which will be the BIGGEST division in the political spectrum for any Presidential election in US history.  Not to mention that we've never seen a true socialist running that has a lot of support from the younger voting group.
775  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC reach $350 during november? on: October 31, 2015, 04:05:03 PM
Honestly, I can see it going a little bit higher, but for some reason I just see it going back below $300 again soon.. It might go up just a little bit more, but I don't see it going above $350 in November.

Now when it gets closer to halving, then that's a different story... but that's next year, and all this price rise is is speculation of what the Chinese are doing and how much the MMM ponzi will keep going strong.
776  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 30, 2015, 08:36:34 PM
They're sleeping. Jeez boys calm your tits. We're still over $320

That's what I really hope is going on... I mean hell, earlier this morning I saw it go down $7 in a matter of a minute or two... I feel that maybe we'll be alright after all now that I think about it more.
777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 30, 2015, 07:59:40 PM

Jesus AP, I wish I had your job to be able to fork over that kind of cash whenever I wanted... how are you able to survive bills and food/alcohol expenses when your throwing that much money into cryptos?

This was my big yearly bonus check.   Cheesy  I have a pretty good job, but it's not that good.

It was tempting to use it to buy some toys, pay down some debt, take a vacation to Vegas, or any number of things.... or perhaps even just hold onto Bitcoin and see what happens.

but nah.  I figure, I've talked more shit about Monero (in a good way) than pretty much anyone.  I had better put my money where my mouth is.   Cool

Haha, nice... I'm working towards a promotion that will probably happen sometime in 2017, so I'm hoping that it will be enough time for monero to stay atleast under the $2 mark before I can really start throwing around some money... but for some reason, I don't see this happening. *sigh* oh well..

Someone left some cheap Monero lying around.  So I'm buying another 18,000.

Their loss.   Wink

China is scaring me a little bit as of right now... they currently aren't holding that $30 gap any more between bitstamp prices... What do you guys think? Is this the top?
780  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will BTC reach $350 during november? on: October 30, 2015, 05:33:25 PM
The price will stay around $350 probably next month. The price has risen much faster than we expect. It needs some breath time and prepare for the next rise, hopefully, around $400.

I'm thinking too that the price will be around $320-350 in the next few months, followed by a steady rise as we near the block halving and a steep rise just before a week or two before it. Of course, there'll be corrections but overall it'll be an uptrend.

That would definitely be the most optimal way for bitcoin to grow... but let's face it, people are panicking and buying as much as possible, because they don't know where this is going.  I can honestly see it shooting up to $500-$600 by the end of the year, and maybe keep climbing some through January, but by February I can see a good dump back down to $400 or so and stay there because people will be interested what will happen during the halving.
