1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what things can do if i hodle for long time crypto on: Today at 02:16:56 PM

what are methods you used to forget the market conditions and keep hodl?

In my story , i always log to twitter and see what is happing , see coinmarketcap always, see youtube videos related to crypto. so this makes me sometimes panic , fear.

please update what things you do
This happens when you don't invest in trusted coins. If you are holding a trusted coin, with high utility, liquidity and the rest, you will not panic whenever there's a dip. It's only when you hold some worthless coins that got popular through the trend hype that you will be anxious when there's a drift in price.

After investing for long time, find something doing with your free time, this will keep your mind engaged instead of remaining idle and thinking about your investment
2  Other / Meta / Re: Could there be a "like button"? on: May 13, 2024, 11:58:39 PM
Op, I just did a quick search to dig up one of my early posts which expressed exactly what you have done in OP. Now I'll place both posts below, we will read both and try to deduce something from them.

As a newbie, I read many posts that has quality. After reading the posts I'll feel like to merit the post, but as a newbie, I might not have a sendable merit, I will have no option than to slide on.
Assuming there is an alternative to merit just like "Facebook like" along side merit, it would favour me.

Atleast if I don't have merit to give, I will just click like and move on pending when I'll have merit to award the user.
This proposed "like" might likely not be used by admins, or neither shall it determine ranking, but it should just be a mere appreciation for a quality post when merit is lacking.

During my time spent in the forum, i've received some replies to my post and i've read many informative post which help guide my navigation through the forum, giving out merit might be a little bit difficult as there are limitations to that, so many times wish i could hit the like button in every educating post i come across, to show gratitude towards the op, and also shows how relevant a particular post/reply is, (i.e from a wide range of reply, a reader and easily skim and scan a post and get informed in no time through the engagements a particular reply have).

Lesson to be learnt;
  • Always use search function to be sure you are not trying to discuss what has been discussed several times in the past.
  • theymos is reluctant of making any merit related changes. If you were here 2018, according to some people, you will appreciate the merit system.
3  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 11:27:35 PM
This could guide those writing ban appeals on how to present their cases.
I do not mind this. 99% of ban appeals do not get accepted anyway and same percentage of bans are for plagiarism, the ban punishment on spam is loosely enforced and malicious link bans are not common.
When you narrow it down to plagiarism and sharing malwares, any user doing this knows exactly what they are doing and do not need pointers nor do they need to appeal.

We just just have the one unique situation every once in a long while when a user gets wrongly banned and needs clarification to direct their appeal. This can be handled on a case by case basis.
Well said. Most ban appeals are handled case by case. When I was new, I remember two members unbanned within the same space. But I haven't seen something like that again. I would like you to check out this thread, you will see that forum is become very lenient in recent time.
4  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CEX or DEX: Which One Rewards You More? on: May 13, 2024, 11:12:14 PM
CEX is better for you if you want to get the most out of your crypto whenever you want to sell because they can do a trade as close to the current price as possible, that's probably the only advantage of CEX in my opinion because there's not a lot of advantages to it not to mention that it's a not your keys, not your coins when it comes to CEX so in the cases of attacks on an exchange, you might be risking a your money storing it there. Some might say that P2P can be an advantage but I doubt it, you can do P2P here in the forum.
That's not the only advantage of CEX of DEX. I am not supporting CEX in this debate but I'm trying to prove that there are other advantages of CEX of DEX apart from selling coins near market price.
  • Have you considered the user interface of both and see that CEXs are a way better.
  • How about internal feeless transfers.
  • Non technicality of usage
  • Security of the exchange. This might be confusing, but a DEX  which do not have many developers working on it is a menace.
  • I just want both to co-exist in order to get the government distracted.
5  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance sued in Canada for securities law violations on: May 13, 2024, 10:53:12 PM
Binance is getting sued perpetually. Nothing new, business as usual and the BNB price reflects that. Grin
Exactly my thoughts... An adage says if a child is punished in one regular way, that punishment will eventually become a hobby to the child. I don't think that Binance is afraid of any litigation anymore. Infact her former CEO has been convicted and yet the company keeps going. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is the case of Binance.
6  Economy / Services / Re: Charles-Tim Signature space for rent on: May 13, 2024, 10:20:45 PM
I joined the forum and saw Charles-Tim promoting Bestchange which was the highest paying campaign then after Chipmixer. I admired him and the likes of CryptopreneurBrainboss. From then till date, Charles-Tim has been promoting high paying and reputable projects. I give him all the available flowers.
7  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 13, 2024, 10:04:27 PM
So you want theymos to leave the USA and find a friendly country to run bitcointalk.
If that friendly country turns their policy similarly to the USA. theymos will need to leave that country, find a new one, and the cycle will repeat.
Quite interesting and a nice idea, iff: what theymos lives for is Bitcointalk.
Instead of theymos toeing this lane, he will rather form a group that will transform the forum to a decentralized one.

To me, these ideas are not needed yet because the forum is not doing any illegal deals. The last time I checked, arms and drugs are not sold here. I also feel that theymos has an informant from the government. Anytime US wants to come for this forum, it will not take him unaware. Could be the reason he stopped mixers, who knows with this recent attacks on mixers, BTT would have been implicated and suspended by now.
8  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 09:43:44 PM
Good work as always PowerGlove. But can mods leave clearer messages so the user is not confused when they get a notification? I know it may be too much work to write down a notification message for each action they take, but they can choose an option from the most commonly used actions which will be added to the system. Such as;
• A reply of yours was deleted cause it's spam
• A reply if yours was deleted cause it is off topic
• Consecutive posts merged (see rule 32)

Mods will be in a better position to know what they commonly handle and which options to add to make their job easier and the message clearer.
This will help newbies alot. I was confused when some of my posts were deleted in my newbie days. I wouldn't know if it was an off topic, or spam or was just reported and deleted for no reason (which was what I believed then).
I instead have another striking concern;
  • You have been banned because of plagerism.
  • You have been banned because of spamming
  • You have been banned for sharing malicious links
Etc.
This could guide those writing ban appeals on how to present their cases.

Maybe that patch could also have some real preventive measure in the sense that it would disable "Posting multiple posts in a row" in a way that it would simply refuse to publish such posts?
This will affect lots of other members. Those who make announcement threads for example usually "reserve" the first reply after starting their threads which will count as posting in a row. Campaign managers also after announcing to have made the payment for a week in their thread will commonly have no reply there till the next week, which will also count as consecutive posting too.
There are other scenarios where it's necessary, so disabling it entirely will be counter productive.
Apart from the above you described, the forum does not operate in such a way to deny anyone freedom. Even bumping warnings doesn't restrict you from posting, rather it will encourage you to start a new topic unless it's very necessary to bump.
9  Other / Meta / Re: List of Meta suggestions for Bitcointalk Improvement on: May 13, 2024, 09:21:59 PM
Nice to see this thread bumped. Although it's an old thread but this is my first time of seeing it. I have read a thread where someone was proposing to compile a list such as this. I trust the person has seen this to avoid duplicate threads.

Op, can you make a provision to check implemented suggestions? Like 2fa authentication, Op on topic starters have been implemented. This could make theymos see here as a place to come whenever he wants to implement a new thing.
10  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I get into trading on: May 13, 2024, 08:52:55 PM
In addition to all the answers written above, you may ask yourself whether you will be able to control all the emotions that are present during trading. For people with a weak nervous system, trading causes serious problems, which means, in addition to all the knowledge, you must train yourself to the fact that the loss of funds, as an integral part of practice, will bother you every time. Are you ready for this? Is the game worth the candle, or is it still easier to limit yourself to regular investments in Bitcoin?
This area you pointed out, to me is the most important factor to be considered while preparing to trade or learn trading. The emotional ruggedness of a trader is that fuel that keeps the trader going. I remember when I first joined the cryptocurrency industry, and it was the period of 2021 bull run. I learnt the basics of trading and was practically buying low and selling high, since it was bull run, I thought I have mastered the act of trading. But when the market went against me heavily, I was emotionally bewitched. I couldn't perform any reasonable task in the real life until I sold at lose and regained my healthy life. That was when I realised that trading actually isn't for me
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: If all your wages were paid in USDT, would you accept it? on: May 12, 2024, 11:29:18 PM
Just as mentioned that as the moment you do receive your USDT then you could simply convert it out and p2p right away on exchangers and change it to fiat
if you do have that kind of worrying about those depegging and other issues.

Thats true,  - cashing out to fiat right away does reduce the risk of losing value if the stablecoin drops its peg.  For smaller sums, it may be the safer option.  However, peer-to-peer transactions have risks too, like the possibility of fraud by the other party.  Theres no perfectly safe option so its about weighing risks against benefits in your specific situation.  Perhaps use caution with large amounts, but accept some risk for convenience with smaller
If I am paid in USD, I can use same to buy USDT. In the other hand, if I am paid in USDT, I can convert same to USD. The world is full of possibilities, so I don't think it's needful killing one'self. The most important thing is getting a job and being worthy to be paid at the end of the month or year.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I get into trading on: May 12, 2024, 10:01:33 PM
Good day guys!
As someone who’s new to this space and wants to start trading, what are the steps I can take to start
The number one step is first learning how to trade. There's no need hasting to losses when there's always an opportunity to earn. It's better you get well prepared by learning how to trade and then you can comfortably start trading.

and how much of fund do I need to start?.
You just need how much you can produce and how much you can afford to lose. Don't go get loan because of trading.

What wallet is best for me? Can I use meta trader?
You trade with exchanges, just choose a reputable one.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: 1xbit violated self exclusion terms, do not want to help on: May 12, 2024, 08:55:18 PM
Upon all the efforts the forum members made to eradicate 1xbit from this forum, we still hear of 1xbit even when they are no longer advertising here and even when they are proven scammers. If you check scam accusation board, there's 1xbit there, you check reputation board, they are there, in gambling board, they are there and now in service discussion.

My take is that anyone who knows 1xbit to be scam and still decides to patronize them should face whatever consequences when it comes.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fraudulent e mail on: May 12, 2024, 08:36:32 PM
I think that kind of link came from someone who knows you in person. Maybe they know you have joined cryptocurrency and you are a newbie, they wanted to try you. You could consider not telling people much about your investment.
It could also come from where you have linked your address before for a free coin or an airdrop. Ignoring such attempts is the safest thing you could do.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A bigginner on: May 12, 2024, 08:18:45 PM
What will one need to know before investing in Bitcoin? Because as a bigginner you need to know the strategies before you start investing.
At a beginner you already know that you need to know the strategies before investing, that is a great one by the way. Even without being in the forum there are a lot of places in the internet that will tell you about Bitcoin. What you actually need to do is to open your mind to learning and alot of bitcoin related articles. mk4 provided useful links and if you can follow those links you will know as much as you want to know about Bitcoin.

Next time you should avoid asking this type of generic questions, some users of this forum do not like this type of questions because they can easily be searched and answers gotten.
16  Economy / Economics / Re: Digital Bank on: May 12, 2024, 08:02:08 PM
they are offering higher interest rates returns compare to their traditional bank counterpart is part of digital bank here in Indonesia digital bank gives you juicy apy from traditional bank first I believe this strategy because to grab more people to join their bank and second they didn't have office and have less people to operate so they can give a high yield for it customer.

I love digital bank to be honest apart from the yield, User Interface, Free Digital Debit cards, Free Transactions fees every month and etc made me move my money into digital bank.

I was very much resistant of using a digital bank for a very long time until I was persuaded severally to open an account with them. Finally this year I did open an account with one of the digital banks in my country and it has been a very nice experience. They do not extort their customers unnecessarily as the traditional banks deal without remorse. They also do not charge for SMS alert as they do not send any text message to your phone, the offer limited free transaction fee. With their apps you can pay all kinds of utility bill which you might not even see in the traditional banks. Recently, their activities have not been going well in my country, it seems that the government are beginning to over tax them and give them some conditions which they cannot meet.

Since after the advent of covid-19, everyone understood that the world is tilting towards online. So, we should embrace this kind of gestures.
17  Economy / Economics / Re: Money is all wealth? on: May 12, 2024, 07:40:05 PM
I don't know whether we consider money as a wealth or not, but money is something that all people need. Money is everything in today's world to live properly and live comfortably. A man who has no money understands the meaning of money.
Wealth can be described differently by each of us. But most likely it is about related to financial matters and assets.

I agree with you that money can never buy happiness but if you don't have money your loved ones will not look after you and even your wife will leave you.
I beg to disagree.

Having no money wont make you happy so that means that having money can make you happy.

If you have nothing to eat because you have no money, that won't make you happy and together with your family, it doesnt make sense if people still believe that quote.
There is no need for anyone to underrate or talk down on money. Money is so powerful than we see it. People that do not understand the value of money are the set of people that do not know any other function of money apart from its purchasing power. Money brings happiness, it does this by providing all the comfortable things for you and bringing happy people closer to you. Imagine how happy you will be that you work into a boutique and do not care the amount of clothes they sell there, you buy as much as you can and pay. I remember when I never had some money with me, I will just be unnecessarily hungry. But when the money is there, I could possibly go several hours without getting hungry because I know that I can afford any food I want to eat. This is how the real life scenario plays out. When you have money you will stop wishing many things and things will become reality and you can say you are a wealthy man. Money brings happiness and good health.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: If you want to be wealthy you need action on: May 12, 2024, 07:26:32 PM
I believe that the ability to take action after acquiring knowledge is what mades up wisdom or it's the real definition of wisdom. Is not enough to acquire knowledge or it's not enough to get motivation but it's better to acquire the knowledge in the process of taking actions.
And that's one characteristics of a successful man. There are fascinated by actions not to promises.
It is fine that you have acknowledged that one need to first acquire some knowledge before they will begin to take action. The man who has no knowledge, idea or experience about something but begins by taking action at rightly might likely fail. This is why learning should not be underrated and it is only when one must have learned a lot that they begin to earn.

Really! To achieve something, you must rely primarily on your experience. Only after you yourself have lost your profit will you be able to understand the risks and learn to control your actions and be able to make decisions on which your monetary income will depend. The only advice I can give to beginners is to always start small and know when to stop.
The place of experience cannot be underrated in investment. An inexperienced investor is tantamount to losing while an experience investor could make good fortune from his investment. How do we get experience, first by trying. But we should not wait to try everything ourselves and make alot of mistakes before learning from our mistakes. It is permitted to also learn from others mistakes.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will cryptocurrencies see a new wave after Trump's election? on: May 11, 2024, 09:38:45 PM
I would choose not to involve in the politics of my country if it is possible, but then the government and their policies in one way or the other affects me and that is why I will have to directly or indirectly get involved.
If I am from the States, I will vote Trump because of the statement he made. Be it political or not, it is better he made the good statement than sticking with someone who already is in power and doesn't do much to favour cryptocurrency. The shoe wearer knows where it stinks, so Americans know what they want but American bitcoiners know better
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you start investing in bitcoin because of some celebrity ? on: May 11, 2024, 09:25:26 PM
I see that current youth is inspired by celebrities and influencers in big way. Did you also start investing in bitcoin because of some celebrity ? Or you know people who belong to that category ? Is it a wise decision to do so or we should do our own research for better results ?
I discovered this some time ago that it seems I'm the only one who isn't moved by what celebrities do. I don't even idolize any celebrity. Apart from the footballers I don't even know that names of many celebrities. I wouldn't be surprised if I walk pass many popular musicians in my country. I was in the airport one day and was actually beside one celebrity, I didn't know until some other group of people walked in and started hailing the celebrity. I smiled and told the celebrity that I didn't actually know him and he was a bit surprised.

I have read where some said they started gambling because their favourite celebrity does;
Some pattern their lifestyle, from clothing to the rest to that of their favourite celebrity;
I wouldn't be surprised if some people started investing in BTC because if their favourite celebrity. But it won't easily happen unless it is a Ponzi scheme or a shitcoin which the owners hired a celebrity to promote.
