unfortunately on http://nlgcup.com/#/match/W57vW58 the Guldencoin sign is messed up into Ġ

This is fixed. Just let the caches time out or force a reload with ctrl+F5.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NLG] Guldencoin Meet our awesome community! on: July 07, 2014, 10:22:07 AM
ShopemNL,

Thanks for the screenshot, I'm trying to reproduce.
Does refreshing cache (ctrl+F5) fix this for you?
Is it only the guldencoin page in the docs?

Thanks!
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NLG] Guldencoin Meet our awesome community! on: July 07, 2014, 10:03:29 AM

What's the problem?
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NLG] Guldencoin Meet our awesome community! on: July 06, 2014, 10:36:22 PM
Hi all!

I have some nice announcements this evening.

Guldencoin now has a valuta sign!
Check it out at docs.guldencoin.com/guldensign. To add this to your website is very easy, it's described in those docs.
edit: Looks like the guldensign.css isn't flawless yet (in some cases messes with other fonts). I'll fix this tomorow. edit: fixed.

We're working on more information about Guldencoin branding (colors, style guide, logo vectors, etc.).

Furthermore, I'd like to introduce a new service: nlgcdn.com
Basically, this is a service where we will be hosting static content that we think is useful for the project and community, such as the guldensign.css file and guldensign font files.
Although it's not a "real" CDN yet, please do use it. We will keep working on this, especially when traffic increases.
Ofcourse, you're free to downloaded any file and host it yourself.

Cheers!
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NLG] Guldencoin Meet our awesome community! on: July 05, 2014, 06:23:43 PM
It was changed after the first few matches. From the site:
"Making a prediction is possible until 30 minutes before the game kickoff. Any coins received afterwards are not accepted. There is a small grace period to compensate for blocktime. "

In my opinion, an HTML wallets are a tricky business.
First of all, asuming the wallet is served from a webserver: one needs to trust CA's. After diginotar's failure, this is a bit of an issue.
Then there's the problem with javascript, which was never really designed to do crypto stuff. Most default javascript random number generators aren't very good. Furthermore, javascript doesn't exactly run in a safe environment. Code injection is trivial and a simple virus (Aw3some toolbar gadget mp3 downloader v6-plus DOWNLOAD NOW!) could do it. After that there's the subject of 'where do we store the coins aka private keys?'. Either on the server, making the server a huge target. Or in the client? (cookies? local storage? hmm.. I dont know if thats really that great..)..

So. I believe html/js wallets (or wallet front-ends) are definitely very interesting, but I doubt if they should be used in production already.
Browsers are constantly improving and working on security. I think there will come a time that something like this is possible in a safe way.
I'll take a better look at Hive and see how they approached these problems. Maybe they've got some great solutions!

What do we require for iOS?
(I'm not an Objective-C coder, so I might get terminology wrong.)
What we need is an Objective-C library that, on itself, is a complete working guldencoin node implementation with wallet functionality (including persistence).
Possibly this can be achieved by taking Breadwallet and adding scrypt+KGW.
The library should come with unit tests and regression tests.
If the library is forked (for instance from breadwallet), then upstream remote's should still work (keep git history). That way we can merge in new features and improvements.
The library must expose API's to do all the common tasks as seen in the android wallet and guldencoin-qt.
Please contact us before starting to work on this. We'd like to stay in touch throughout the process and avoid multiple people trying to achieve the same; spilling time by doing the same things twice.

Dutch got unlucky with the weather.

But what a match! Last 10 minutes completely turned the game  Grin

Did I miss something with the NLGcup? Because it's not possible anymore to bet on draw...

Matches won't end in draw anymore.. The following matches will be extended in time when there's no winner. I don't know the exact rules.. I think there will be 2x 15 minutes of game extension. And golden goal after that?

Here is the program I wrote to calculate the number of coins sent to miner addresses:

[..]

KGW cannot cope with such a situation... it actually makes things worse... because the difficulty falls so low after such an incident that it can hours or even days for the diff to resettle... and most often because of the extreme fall in difficulty after an episode... it triggers the multi-pools again and so it becomes a death spiral.

PotCoin(POT) was taken off-line for nearly 24 hours because of this and the dev team had to negotiate with multi-pool admin to solve the problem...

[...]

Hmm good point.. I think I'll try to run some simulations on KGW to figure out how it reacts under those circumstances...
Thanks!

I really like this stuff but hardly understand how the bloackchain actually works.
Anyone know a nice site with some more explanation?

And, is it possible to play with the downloaded blockchain in my little Windows 7 (home) machine, or is this impossible?

First you should read the satoshi whitepaper: https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
Then read some more stuff about blockchain. Just google for articles and sniff through bitcoin wiki.
Once you know how it works. Interact with it trough the API's that are provided by guldencoin-qt or guldencoind (build from source).
These API's are the same as bitcoin's ones: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Original_Bitcoin_client/API_Calls_list
There are libraries for several languages that can help you to talk to the guldencoind right away: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/API_reference_%28JSON-RPC%29

[...]

The current network hash-rate is about 400Mh/s with a diff of 16, when these multi-pool roll in with 10Gh/s or more, the difficulty will go to 400 plus and then the multi-pool leaves the network 'stuck' there, while the base mining hash-rate has to hash for hours to find the next block, completely paralysing the network for hours. During this time no coin or transactions can be confirmed, so in essence the coin is not usable for this time. I have seen coin networks stalled for up to 8 hours or more. That is it 8 hours between the last block found by the multi-pool until the next block is found by the regular miners.

[...]

NLG has KGW... I believe this solves the problem of getting stuck at high diff.

However, huge spikes in hash/sec would still be a problem. Miners that can break even now will leave once some GH/s are added. Then when the GH/s are gone we're left with a few KH/s because the 'original' miners left earlier.. I wouldn't want to see that..

If this is indeed what coinwarz is all about, then I wouldn't recommend voting on it. Since MH/s is somewhat related to the trade value of the coin (ROI), we're probably best off with miners that join the network manually and choose to stick with NLG because they trust the coin. Not because they can get a good ROI in the coming 3 minutes.

[..]

I'm not sure the figures are 100% correct.  Both my pool and personal addresses are in the lists, but the numbers don't quite correspond with what I'm seeing on my end as total mined coin.  Can you clarify how you got the values that you've calculated?

[..]

You're correct. As I said: the program isn't perfect yet. It's showing the global lines but it's still missing those strange blocks. I also just fixed a bug that omitted some tx addresses.

We'll might create a small site for this showing these numbers and updating every hour or so..

394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NLG] Guldencoin Meet our awesome community! on: June 27, 2014, 09:35:02 PM
Hi all,

I just made a small program that iterates over the latest blocks in the chain and calculates the cumulative of mined coins per address.
The results are interesting. Please note this is just an indication as to where mined coins were sent. It doesn't exactly say 'who' mined the coins.
It's also important to note that the program still fails to analyze a small few strange blocks, such as 72028 (http://dutchpool.org:2752/block/e1e106cc16a68528529436b949ad0265a9eb033998ca68d4cd6fc9747ab2220a). I'm still working on a fix, but the impact on the results below will be very small and I didn't want to keep you waiting.

I've ran the program several times with a different number of historical blocks analyzed.

As some of you might have seen, we've created a top bar for common services such as the docs and seeds overview. This top-bar was recently updated; more items have been added.
Because this bar now contains too many items to display on a mobile phone I made a small static site that links to the most important NLG community resources/services. The top-bar on a mobile phone now links to that site, which also works for desktops of course. Give it a try: https://services.guldencoin.com/

Did you spot it!? Yes yes yes! We are now hosting a webchat interface for the #guldencoin IRC channel at the irc.tweaker.net servers!
Of course you can join this chat using your favorite IRC chat client. The server is irc.tweakers.net and the channel is #guldencoin
The webchat doesn't work that well on a mobile phone so you should use an app to connect to the IRC channel, as described above.

More items will be added to the services.guldencoin.com site as we move along.

The sources are on github:
github.com/nlgcoin/services.guldencoin.com
github.com/nlgcoin/nlg-top

Let me just finish by saying that we are an awesome community. I feel blessed to be a part of this movement.

edit: add links

WaterLooDown: some things less related to marketing/acceptance:

Documentation: docs.guldencoin.com
Seeds overview: seeds.guldencoin.com
Seeds are still being migrated/added over three different top-level domains and three different hosts to increase network stability and safety.
These migrations are slow on purpose, so the network isn't interrupted too much.
