Hobular is back above 700.

Bitstamp's on 697, but bitfinex is on 692. That's strange, it's bitstamp that's usually the bearish exchange. They are both getting close to 700 and should go above it soon like hobular. Sideways is now over.

Update to NXT client 1.9.2
https://nxtforum.org/nrs-releases/nrs-v1-9-2/

Quote
Update to this release on mainnet is optional up until block 1000000 (Oct 12), however users are advised to do it earlier, as after July 14th updating will trigger a blockchain rescan.

Do we still get Nxt 2.0 for holding Nxt if we don't update to Nxt client 1.9.2 until after the snapshots stop? I sent my Nxt to an address, and intend to leave them in it for the full three months of snapshots without updating or syncing my wallet.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ARDOR NXT on: July 02, 2016, 09:41:56 AM
how are smart phased transactions different from smart contracts?
In a nutshell, a smart contract allows you to write code to do just about anything (including potential dangerous stuff).
Advantages are you have a lot more freedom to do whatever you want, the drawbacks is obviously security (if you have a bug in your contract someone could exploit that), and thus it will require more time to learn to code properly & test your contracts.

With smart transactions you don't write any code, the functions are already pre-defined within the protocol. You just pass in your desired parameters.
The advantages are the opposite of smart contracts, it's more secure, it takes less time for you to learn, code & test.
The drawbacks is that you are limited to the functions that exists in the core client.

Not sure if that makes any sense, or if it is even the correct definitions.
It is my understanding anyway.

I prefer secure Nxt 2.0 smart transactions to buggy ethereum smart contracts that can be hacked. I don't trust ethereum since it was hacked, so I'm buying Nxt before Nxt 2.0 takes over from ethereum.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cooking Coin on: June 01, 2016, 05:07:18 PM
There was a frycoin, although it probably refers to a cartoon character rather than frying food. The name's close to a form of cooking though.

AFAIK, this account was hacked after BitcoinTalk DB was stolen. Check the trust left by TomatoCage.

Alt of hacked account Mt.Gox Support. Be wary about doing business with this user as it may not be under the control of the original owner.

I had forgotten about that. Now I remember all the posts by Mt.Gox Support immediately after the forum re-opened. He must have used a very weak password for that account, and probably the MagicalTux account too. If MagicalTux shows any activity from now on it's definitely been hacked.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction not confirmed on: August 04, 2015, 11:43:27 PM
Jorge Stolfi said another stress test had started but there are only a few thousand unconfirmed transactions tonight. It might be the reason for the delay the OP has. I ignored it until now and hoped the test would stop before it did any damage. I hope it doesn't last for days like the last time when there were 10 thousand unconfirmed transactions.

Another "stress test" just started.  The backlog is already 60 MB of unconfirmed transactions, and the input traffic is ~ 3 MB every 10 minutes, or ~5 kB/s .  So far, the tester is paying 0.2 mBTC/kB, like the last one.  Will it keep at that, or increase the fees later?

How accurate are these figures?  Its a simulation of a model of the system, so doubly removed!!.
As the dev admits, " the main tradeoff, however, is the dependence on the model assumptions"

AFAIK, the "simulation" is only for the top graph (what fees you would need to get expectation of N minutes to first confirmation), and for the dashed line (capacity) on the bottom graph.  The backlog (solid line) and incoming traffic (dotted) on the bottom graph are real data.

The information about the fees being paid by teh unconfirmed transactions comes from this other site.  The big step at 0.20 mBTC/kB must be largely due to the test transactions.

Right now there appeared another large step at ~0.50 mBTC/kB; that may be test transactions, too.  However, those transctions are still below the 750 kB level, so they may affect only those transactions (a few thousand?) that paid between 0.20 and 0.35 (beware that the graph is changing all the time).  But they may be a sign that the "tester" is raising his annoyance goal...

The mainstream media has so much to talk about bitcoin this week Wink

Who the hell is the Bitcoin CEO and what blockchain in particular? Blockchain.info or the block chain ledger?

I think OP was just trying to be ironic... Grin

Well, he has 307 activity on a Sr Member account, I would hope that he doesn't think Bitcoin has an actual CEO at this point. I think some people here still think Satoshi is the CEO of Bitcoin or something along the lines.

If it had one I would expect a Bitcoin CEO to have a legendary account here. Mark Karples was only a senior member. Surprisingly though his MagicalTux account here was last active on July 30, 2015 which is quite close to the time of his arrest. I can't think why he logged in unless he wanted to check his emails. He could have browsed the forum without anyone knowing if he didn't log in.

I already commented on this, and it seems as though it just vanished. {Are we moderated, without us knowing it?}

I will not sell my bitcoin soul for this. Why the #@$$%#% do you need a coin to identify you? {Facebook}?

It isn't required to use Stellar that you have to have Facebook, it is a free giveaway that you can take advantage of or not.  Lots of sites do this including sites that involve bitcoin.

It was a free giveaway, but sadly they started rejecting any and all Facebook accounts that anyone tried to sign up with. The amount they gave away rapidly dwindled to next to nothing. I don't think anyone has got anything from the giveaway for a long time now. They promised to give away a certain amount each year but I think they'll break that promise and there will be no more giveaways this year.
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 21, 2015, 10:32:03 PM
dump incoming.

From where? I want to be up wind when it happens.

One going on in finex right now big red dildo

What site are you checking from, or are you checking directly on finex?

Both bitcoinity.org and bitcoincharts.com went down for me. Strangely bitcoinity.org went down right before the dump. Maybe it got overloaded when too many people simultaneously viewed it to watch the dump.

Edit

bitcoinity.org came back on for me. Now I can see the big dump.

NINJA, Equinox, Pharma, Tron

Are you joking or is there a new Equinox coin?

The last one was an ICO scam that burned a lot of people here. This is what the dev changed the first page of the announcement thread to after he had pulled his scam, although the mods have now removed it and the thread has been locked.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=746191.msg9462939#msg9462939

This is what the dev changed the topic title to after his scam. You notice it still says "Don't invest in ICO shit, idiots...".

The dev didn't only scam people, he continued to post in his scam coin's thread afterwards, constantly ridiculing people for falling for his scam and boasting about what he was blowing their money on.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MultiDoge Wallet Problem on: July 21, 2015, 06:36:37 PM
It's probably because the MultiDoge wallet has not been maintained by the dev for a long time. All Mulribit clones like MultiDoge need a snapshot of the coin's blockchain headers taken by the dev at regular intervals and including in an updated wallet. If the snapshot is very old then the wallet has to download all the headers since it was taken.

There was a contest which paid a bounty to the best lightweight Doge wallet, and I think the MultiDoge dev created MultiDoge to win it, then abandoned the project because he wasn't earning anything more from it afterwards.

The dev's last Github activity was 7 months ago and there were sync issues being reported over a year ago.

https://github.com/langerhans/multidoge

We need a new dev to update the project with a new snapshot if the old one doesn't return.

Can you quote my address to verify I own my account too please?

Are there some instructions somewhere on how I go about signing a message like everyone else is doing?

Thanks
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 07, 2015, 12:57:02 AM
Unannounced stress test using .0002 btc fees. It apparently set a record for tx/s at one point with... if I remember correctly, something like 147 tx/s
Also, coinbase and finex were both down briefly today and huobi still hasn't recovered as of yet. Also, price is taking a nose dive.I'm not much for tinfoil hats, but dayum!!!

I feel sorry for the Chinese Huobi users. Their stock market is crashing by trillions and now when Bitcoins going down they can't log into Huobi to put a dump order on. That must be so frustrating. Some of them might have been counting on their Bitcoin gains to offset their loses on the stock market, and they can't lock their profits in with Huobi down.
14  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Huobi have crashed ? on: July 07, 2015, 12:25:58 AM
I think Houbi is still up based on their actual website. They show the real-time transactions and it's definitely active https://www.huobi.com/?lang=en

Must be a data feed problem for bitcoinwisdom.

I could access the website the second timne I tried but got a cloudflare error when I tried to access the market page. The first time I tried to access the home page I got a cloud flare error.

The ticker still appeared to show some trades. Cryptsy sometimes crashes but people can still trade through the API. That might be happening on Huobi, although Bitcoinity shows no trades for hours.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stress test litecoin? on: July 07, 2015, 12:01:30 AM
I guess all coins are susceptible to stress testing like today's Bitcoin stress test. Litecoin has much faster confirmations than Bitcoin, but the transaction fees cost less. It might work out roughly the same to stress test Litecoin as it does to test Bitcoin. It would require more transactions to spam the network, but paying for them would be cheaper.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Casualty List on: June 03, 2015, 02:36:34 PM
I cannot find NXT-E on that list. It opened over a year ago, but became a zombie exchange about half a year ago, then went offline taking everyone's coins with it. It might have been hacked, or the admin might have closed it. There was no way to tell because the admin had been uncommunicative for months before it went offline.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: DGEX is a joke on: June 03, 2015, 02:32:39 PM
DGEX is a niche exchange with low volume. it was released as the new top exchange over a year ago, especially for Nxt. But it has never reached its own standards. So, you don't need to wonder.

There are actually thousands of such exchanges so I wouldn't be surprised if another of them bites the dust.

NXT-E was also started about a year ago especially for Nxt, but became a zombie exchange, then went offline. I lost a tiny number of Nxt on it, but the writing was on the wall for months before it closed. It may be wise not to keep much on DGEX in case the writing is also on the wall for it.

Relax.
I've spoken with the dev this morning. There will be updates & givaways soon.

Is there any news about the giveaways?

They are pretty much giving it away on the exchanges, maybe that is what he meant by giveaways.

Kondiomir has a different definition of "soon" to me.
