1  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Is school really a scam? on: January 11, 2024, 01:37:21 AM
One of the worst perception ever, probably sold by school drop out and the rest. First, school is for acquiring knowledge,as learning is part of every day life, and making practical use of this knowledge in real life.Unfortunately the society we live in can not provide job for all its educated or graduate per say,but nevertheless having that knowledge alone puts you already a step ahead of someone that does not have a tall.it is better you have a school qualification, and job hasn't come ,than you don't have, and an opportunity comes your way that requires Degree and you no get,is crazy.  I remember how I got the motivation to start a university degree.I visited one of the Residential Areas of an oil company,on reaching there I saw life people are living, cars young boys are driving, company providing them everything you can imagine to make life beautiful, and I said to my self I must go school,I eventually trained my self in school.althou is not a guarantee you will be there with them, but the fact that you have the knowledge first ,have the paper, you never know what life might bring your way. And also in addition to getting a degree, get also a skill to compliment that.
2  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: Who should be held responsible for the problems of the society on: January 05, 2024, 11:25:42 AM
This afternoon, I went to a bar to cool off my brain due to the hot weather then I was sitted peacefully sipping my glass of beer when I lady walked in and the waitress greeted the lady who happened to be her aunty so the Aunty started advising her to be calm and not follow wayward girls that doesn't add value to her life and the Aunty advised her not to date yahoo boys (internet scammers and fraudsters) then the girls mother who happened to be the beer parlour owner intruded in their conversation and said that there a genuine yahoo boys out there so if her daughter sees such a guy that she's gonna date him so the Aunty of the girl now told her sister being the mother of the girl that yahoo is yahoo that there's nothing like genuine yahoo boys.

Now, most of some wrong decisions some people take in life is being influenced by their parents and i now begin to wonder if in this situation of the conversation between this girl, her aunty and her mother is it also the government that told her to date yahoo boys? Like the numerous problems we are facing in this country can it really be channeled to our government because the reason why I'm asking is because had it been our government gave a conducive environment for it's citizens to be employed and have something meaningful they're doing with their lives they wouldn't be involved in frauds and other social crimes in other to make money and no parents can advise their children to marry or date fraudsters and criminals.

So who is really the cause of the problems of the society???
Society problem are much, and it caught a cross  various factors, but government are to be held majorly accountable for most societal ills.in a situation when the government does not provide adequate amenities to cater for its citizen there would be likelihood of  people taking matters to their hand, regardless as individuals it is important to be contempted with what one have and live within their means .Unfortunately that's a virtue that most youth do not have and have made them to seek a quicker means of making money, unfortunately this act have also led to the high rate of ritual killings, kidnapping and the rest. So the responsibility  of problem in the society is by the government and individuals ,and for this problem to be fixed the government  need to make laws to elevate mases from poverty, providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive and encouraging youth to go into entrepreneurship, creating jobs and so on.
Meanwhile individuals can also solve this problem by being industrious, hardworking and ready to learn as well.
3  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The effects of NEPOTISM (MAN KNOW MAN) in Nigeria on: January 04, 2024, 01:25:36 AM
Nepotism Na simply when men wey dey in power or position favour their people over the general interest of Nigerians, Nepotism Na weitin we dey call MAN KNOW MAN, like we all know say this country even as work no dey e get people wey dey get work steady, most of them self even when them still dey University them done secure work for them bcos there person dey in power or authority,
Nepotism fit cause plenty damages for the work force of any country, because the  employment Na by who you Sabi and no be by waiting you fit do, most times the relatives wey dem give the job no know anything concerning the work but because they just want am to chop money them employ am,

Some of the effects of NEPOTISM they down
1. E dey reduce the work performance with unqualified employees wey no get that job experience at all.
2. E dey make the country relatively unproductive in some areas for the economy
3. E dey make people wey actually know the work well not to get job, so e dey lead to unemployment most times.

Nepotism no suppose dey any country, bcos some jobs need required skills and specialties no be by man know man,

Great topic OP,as this matter dey very rampant for our Africa countries, nigeria inclusive.and na one area wey no go fit go way unfurnately, but as oyibo man go talk, there are always two side to a coin.e get pros and cons. And at some point of our life we don benefit from this form of favour before. E get popular saying wey say "person wey him brother dey heaven no dey go hell fire."so there would always be this firm of favour in the society, but it should not come at the detriment of competence,If am in a position and I have a brother who is qualified to carry out a task,I will employ him if it is not against the ethic of the company provided he can deliver on that job.the highest hight of Nepotism is mostly found in public parastatals, the private sector rare have such.An incident happened years ago in shell,a senior shell staff who is a residing pastor of a church branch offerd one of his church member job in shell, after some time that shell staff moved to NLNG in Bonny as a supervisor, and something happened in shell in porthacourt involving that guy he gave employment,na so investigation started, and they later found out that the guy he employed, thou have all the qualifications, but did not pass true due process of employment, that cost this supervisor his job in Bonny(because na shell dey manage NLNG)

so me as a person I am not against favouring a freind or a brother for something,But there must be 101%chance that person deserves that role,so in an event of issues it can be defended.
4  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / NAIRA SCARCITY, ELECTION AND MOHBAD DEATH..are the HIGHLIGHT oF 2023 on: December 31, 2023, 04:18:15 PM
As 2023 comes to an end, just as every other years,so many people look back to reflect on positive and negative, failure and success, Regret and proud moment withing the the 365 days with the hope to consolidate on that in the next year or make amends..In general withing this 12 months so many events shaped our individual lives like wise some made waves in Nigeria too..so I will make a recap of such event that I feel made wave in nigeria in 2023,you can feel free to add yours incase I omit any.

The year started with hope as every other year, with everybody focused on the forth coming elections, majority of the youth were beeming with hope that finally there might be a mesiah to safe Nigeria someone different from the usual political class. This group of youth along with some elderly and notable men in the society who desperately yearn for change formed a bond a family and nicked name it the OBIDIENT,that was the wave at the beginning of the year, and then Naira scarcity sets in Around February,it was one of the worst period I have experienced as a citizen of this country,so many people were lost as a result of this, people buy money in their on country, this event caused a widespread of violence across the country leading to closure of banks for fear of attack and iven burning down of some banks, that period might not be forget for a long time, till now I still dey say make God punish Emiefele.

2023 General ELECTION:so much anticipation for this event as earlier said, they were alot of first time voters, student were eager to vote, with the hope that the election would be free and fair, and then came February 25 the day of the presidential and national assembly election..to some eno go as expected to there it went as expected, but today we have a president,I won't say much on that. Then came march 18 2023 the day of Gubernatorial election, they were pocket of crisis around some state others were peaceful governor's where elected and others were selected but it was one of the key events in our country for the year 2023

MOHBAD DEATH:12th September 2023. this one touch me,because one, he was a young guy,two because of the circumstances that surrounded his dead, and also the event that occurred leading up to his death.,his death was suspicious and the way he was buried, people were angry this lead to protest across the country as well..Lagos state government took over the matter, exumed the body and promise to make investigation, till today nothing, autopsy result is not out,and he has already been forgotten, but IMOLE his light will keep shining on,never have we witness a person death make wave like that of Mohbad,it was a moment in the country that partially united Nigerians..2024 is upon us we pray we have great moments as individuals and as a country..Happy New year everyone.

Chelsea are winning, but still lack control of the game.caicedo  for me is not a good buy, makes reckless tackle and isn't composed with the ball, lavia is a better midfielder than Caicedo. And as long as poch realise this the better, when Lavia was introduced into the game against crystal Palace it changed the dynamic of the game, crystal Palace where all over Chelsea in the midfield, there where multiple time where caicedo was short of option and he would just turn and turn until he is being dispossessed,no forward play from him or whatsoever..unfortunately Lavia pics a knock in that match, the sooner they bring him back the better maybe Chelsea could still manage conferences league spot if performances does not change.
Cole palmer has been Chelsea best player this season, incredible addition to this Chelsea side.is shocking as to why Manchester City let him leave, together with nkunku are the most creative players of this Chelsea side with a real attacking intent. Sterling have proven not to be consistent or better still in effective when needed,Mudrik have this spark sometimes but his touches are always too heavy, but in General when this Chelsea team click, with all the attacking players at their disposal there might be no stopping them.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The general public still doesn't understand Bitcoin is still growing on: December 30, 2023, 02:06:13 PM
At the bookstore today I saw some book about the rise and fall of crypto. On the front cover it was saying crypto went mainstream in 2021 and then collapsed in 2022 culminating in the FTX collapse. The book was definitely partially about the FTX collapse, but it also referred to the entire market as having collapsed, hence the "Fall" part of rise and fall. The final sentence on the front cover mentioned something about the collective delusion that led to this rise and fall of the $3 trillion market.

It hit me that the author, who presumably did a lot of research into the industry in order to write the book, is basing his book on the idea that crypto has collapsed permanently after having a short moment in the mainstream in 2021 (though you coulda said the exact same thing about 2017).

I almost laughed out loud cuz here is an author that did enough research to write an entire book, far more research into the space than the average person does, and even the author doesn't understand what anyone who actually participates in the market easily understands - that the market is cyclical and the 2022 crash was not an end event for the industry but simply the end of a market cycle leading into the next larger market cycle.

Knowing that the market goes through four year cycles and each one is bigger and each big crash and bear market is just a temporary downturn before the market grows vastly larger than it previously was...this is extremely basic knowledge for everyone in the industry. But someone who wrote a whole book on the topic doesn't even understand that! It just really blew my mind. The author thought he was writing about the collapse of the market, yet he would be laughed out of the room by anyone with even a little understand of the market. What is it going to take to educate people on bitcoin and the crypto market?? Every four years its like the general public has a complete reset and thinks bitcoin is going through a bubble for the first time and then dies for good. And they completely forget that it did the same thing a few years earlier likely when they first heard about Bitcoin in 2017 (they probably don't know it had done it a few times before that too).

But just like how do we get the average person out of the repeating delusion that every bull run must be the last and every new bear market is bitcoin and crypto finally collapsing for good? Cuz I mean the average person legit thinks that bitcoin is over during each bear market, they literally think "oh I missed out on that bubble". A friend of mine even said that to me like a month ago, she asked what I had my money in and I told her Bitcoin and her response was oh I missed out on that. She just assumed that it was a one time bubble that was over.

How do we educate people that Bitcoin is a continuously growing global currency that is still in its early staged and each big boom and crash is just its early growing pains? Its just crazy to me that people see Bitcoin becoming more and more valuable and its much much more valuable than the few thousand dollars it was worth when they likely first heard about it in 2017 and yeah they all think it was just a bubble that has passed and they missed out and there's no reason in paying attention to it or owning it now. And then of course they'll be surprised in 2024/2025 when they start hearing about Bitcoin again but then by 2026 when the next bear market hits they'll forget all about the past market cycles and go back to thinking oh it was a bubble and is now dead.
Well I think the author of that book was baise in both his research and publication,he was focused more on the collapse of ftx without having idea about bitcoin in General and the role ftx played in bitcoin community. At the time of FTX collapse in November 2022 it was the 3rd largest crypto exchange in the world,so it is normal that there would be mistrust among public, and as well subsequent toppling of cryptocurrency service that did business with it. But that is an isolated case that has no bearing to the value of bitcoin.

Iven thou there was a dip at the time,Bitcoin has soared ever since..to be fair do many people have come to accept bitcoin and what it represents, the acceptance of bitcoin in 2023 can not be compared to what we had in 2017 or 2018 or iven 2021.i see alot start up businesses that are heavily into crypto exchange, and these start ups are been funded by reputable organisations,so the idea of the general public still doest understand  bitcoin is a little bit  deceptive, because in my own view, every day people get to know about bitcoin, but ofcoure in every society there would be some individuals who are still far from reality and would have a different opinion, but that is no way the opinion of the public.

So OP,the said writer have zero knowledge about bitcoin, and his opinion is no way the opinion of the General topic, believe me bitcoin aware in this year is incredible and it will increases in subsequent years.
7  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Rising case of kidney and liver failure...watch wetin you drink on: December 27, 2023, 09:26:08 AM
My people we get matter for  our hand o,back in the days we use to here of older men having kidney failure, but surprisingly now youth are also being lost to this painful ailment of Renal and liver failure.and one does not need to look too far to find the cause of this. It caught a cross drinking fake drinks like alcohol, taking root commonly referred to as agbo, which have now been discovered to be a high contributor to the high case of kidney failure too.and this sachet alcohol we take also, like the action bitters,Chelsea and the rest.

I had a privilege to have a conversation with a doctor his revelation send shivers to my spine,he talking about how many patients come to the hospital needing dialysis and majority of them na young guys..omo I fear,he also emphasised on the fact that to get liver failure is more dangerous. In his word,"If kidney wan fail, him go give you sign,if you notice am you fit package am before e breakdown finally, but liver no dey give any sign..it will just breakdown and before you know belle don dey swell up".And largely liver failure are also caused by excessive alcohol intake.in general  let our alcohol intake be in moderate, too much drink no be enjoyment o,check originality of drink before you drink, there are so many fake product out there make person no go carry wetin him no know.

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another year is going to end. Bitcoin isn't dead on: December 27, 2023, 05:44:59 AM

A chart means more than any word or long paragraph so let's firstly dive into above chart which was graphed by Jameson Lopp.

He made it with input data from Bitcoin Obituaries.

This summary chart presents a fact that less people wanted to call "Bitcoin is dead" with time. It is an unofficial recognition for survival of Bitcoin.

There is another website for "Bitcoin is dead" chart is Buybitcoinworldwide.com but the team behind it stopped updating the chart recent months.
Very ironically with each year passing by it becomes more and more difficult for the "Bitcoin is dead" narrative to be achieveable, reason being that each year the world keeps going digital and the urge for medium of exchange to follow suit is high, which is something the normal Fiat hasn't been able to achieved over time, the urge to go cashless is there the Government knows this is the way but can't accept it..

Bitcoin is here to stay, and to be honest Bitcoin actually came before it's time,it came when the world havnt not advance this much, today we have powerful technology for instance the AI(artificial intelligence) smart watches and smart phone..is a new down basically and is only with time the world will completely come to accept Bitcoin  as official medium of exchange
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have You Accomplished What Brought You to Bitcoin? on: December 26, 2023, 05:29:22 PM
What brought you to Bitcoin? How much of it have you accomplished? For me, it is the desire to earn a living off the internet without the encumbrances of a 9-5 job and having clients from all over the world pay me for my services without the limitations and regulations of fiat (a pity Bitcoin is being fiercely regulated too). I wouldn't say that I have accomplished that since I still support my earnings with "regular" jobs. I like the liberty of being in control of my time and how I work though I still have not gained that liberty completely. Nevertheless, I believe that with the plans I've implemented, being completely free from a 9-5 or "regular" is possible in 2 years.

What brought you to Bitcoin and how much of it have you accomplished?
Bitcoin is diverse and complex, and one might never accomplish it all, because of this dynamic nature there are more to learn,as for me I haven't,am just beging to learn about it,one of my goals is to know so much about bitcoin that I could travel across the globe to enlightenment people about it,have an exchange medium for it and basically leave off it..To achieve all this I can say 1 to 2 years of extensive research and learning I might be very close to that.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: December 26, 2023, 05:17:00 PM
Epl matches played so far were entertaining,it seems they were no hangovers from Christmas party for the players, they turned up..I still see Manchester United and Aston villa producing similar goal scoring and entertaining match..but Burnley and Liverpool might be cagey,Burnley needs point to survive, thou they did incredibly well in their previous match,we'll see if they can stop this Liverpool attack. If they can it will be such a great feet,at this point iven a point is  a win.

But I think tomorrow games might be somehow cagey,I don't see a lot of goals in the matches..I will predict draw between Chelsea vs Crystal Palace.. draw also in Everton vs Manchester City. And then a win for Watford over Brentford. May be a 1:0 scoreline.

Over time I found out I could write with less stress than before, and my desire to also do research on random topics increased by some margin, which helped me alot in my closing phase in school and my work on my project topic. We have a great community in our hand in this forum and am glad to be part of it at this time.

For the second year in a row Arsenal are sitting at the top of the league by Christmas,it doesn't sound new actually.last year it did not end well, with them later falling off after giving Man City a little bit of  margin at the time.only for man City to go on a run and win the league eventually..

That scenario seems to be repeating it self again, although this time with man City being a shadow of them self,KDB absence hasn't helped them, and Ofcourse missed Rodri couple of times in the midfield, with this challenge this is the best time for arsenal to make this title push, ahead of Liverpool by just a point.althou Liverpool should not be a problem,it is more scary if man City are closely behind them than Liverpool. Manchester City winning these league will begin to make epl boring ,there need to be a new champion,as a Chelsea fan my nightmare continues thou for a second straight season because at the moment I can't seem to get out of 10th position no matter the win, because its a case of 1 syep forward 2 step backwards.

Nevertheless I am rooting for a new champion in epl this season,be it arsenal or Liverpool..I hope they don't bottle it.

Is the part of the year again where everybody are in celebrating mood, for various reasons like good health, financial blessing, for life, and for various goals met.as such we might tend to be in vulnerable state at some point.in respect to this I will put line certain we ought to do at this time to atleast not put us in harms way.

1.Do not keep late Night(unless it is important)
2.when leaving the house always tell some one close to you where you are going and who you are going out with
3.If you go out and drink,do not exceed your limit(so to be aware of whats going on around you)
4.If you travel to the village, mind who you tell your achievements for the year
5.we are in dry season,so incase you want to burn old things that is not needed in the house, ensure you stay around to put off the fire, fire spread fast this period
6.if you stay alone, and you return home from an outing, endeavour to close your door immediately you step into your room
7.Always have a source of light by your side while sleeping at night, like torch or phone
Lat but not the least
8.eat healthy and drink alot of water.

20  Economy / Economics / Could there be a new financial system not dependent on USD? on: April 12, 2023, 09:38:48 AM

Source: Tutwa Consulting Group

BRICS nations are advancing at a fast pace to eliminate the U.S. dollar-dominated financial system. The first step is to bypass the U.S. dollar and the second step is to create a new currency to settle international trades. While the first step is already in practice, the second step could be put in place after the BRICS summit in August 2023.

The alliance countries have already taken measures to bypass the US-dominated global financial system. The aim is to move away from the dependency on the U.S. dollar and provide an alternative global financial option. BRICS is an alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

BRICS: The Next Step To Eliminate The U.S. dollar
currency

Source: Unsplash

Just recently, BRICS nations overtook G7 countries in global GDP while taking purchasing power parity into account. Russia announced that it would pay with the Chinese Yuan to settle trade with Asian, African, and Latin American countries. China and France completed the LNG gas trade using Yuan, ending the dollar’s reliance on energy trades.

Therefore, BRICS are currently successful in their plans to eliminate the U.S. dollar to settle global trades in native currencies. However, if the alliance countries agree to a mutual currency to settle global trade in the upcoming summit in August, the dollar may face a significant drop in demand.
The U.S. dollar might lack potency if the BRICS countries fully eliminate it for global settlements. Over time, many other countries could join the bandwagon and distance themselves from the USD.

The development could make the dollar weak and make way for a new financial system not dependent on the USD. The success or failure of this development now only depends on the next BRICS summit in South Africa.
The transition to settlements in national currencies is the first step. The next one is to provide the circulation of digital or any other form of a fundamentally new currency in the near future,” said the Deputy Chairman of Russia Duma, Alexander Bobakov
