Define "running"? I'm Editor-in-Chief of a magazine for starters. Is that the same thing as "Running a business"? You're starting to lean towards FUD, and that's what this thread was started to avoid. If you'd like to make a claim, I'll be happy to meet it with a wager or you can start asking questions instead of making claims altogether and the whole community will be better off for it! You list yourself as CEO and cofounder of a number of projects. I take your word for it. I wouldn't bet for or against it, but if nobody calls you out on that I'm assuming it's not bollocks. Do not worry. I am involved in some of those projects and I'll strangle him as needed to keep things sane where it matters.

Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hey Pirate, it's Monday....WHERE ARE MY BITCOINS ?

Fuck me... I am the ONLY one showing any backbone. No, you are the only one working against their own interest. Calling him out in such a way won't help you. Dont forget, if pirate doesnt pay bitlane in 14 days (iirc?), he will lose his 5000BTC bet with Vandroiy. Either Pirate is running a scam, and bitlane wont get paid anyhow, or he is legit, and not paying bitline within 14 days will cost pirate a pretty penny. Bitlane doesnt have much to lose from yelling and being his usual noisy self. Pirate may choose to pay him at the very last minute, while everyone else may be paid out tomorrow. Considering that this includes interest up to the payout point (correct?), that would quite a punishment, poor bitlane. Logic 101? anyone? follow up on this.

Log edited [22:38] <EmanuelDeOrtego> pirateat40: Thank you. I enjoy you in general. You're an admirable man. [22:39] <@pirateat40> EmanuelDeOrtego, wait until the end before you decide to like me. [22:40] <EmanuelDeOrtego> pirateat40: I already know the end. If you end up being a sociopath, I'll just laugh. [22:41] <@pirateat40> EmanuelDeOrtego, the "pirate" name would mean something then right [22:44] <@pirateat40> Wouldn't it be fun to run with the coins though? I could make history.... If i pay back, I just get forgotten. Translation of pirate: I'm lonely and need attention. Trunslation of EmanuelDeOrtego: I suck up in desperate hope of getting paid to be made example of as an opposite to bitline.

Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Tangible Cryptography will not reveal information about our clients.
|
on: August 21, 2012, 09:39:37 PM

I would think this could go without saying but Tangible Cryptography will not reveal information about our clients unless compelled by a warrant or court order. We have been receiving emails lately inquiring if a certain "person of interest" has used our service in the past, and if so how much, and if we have any information useful in tracking him down.
Just to be absolutely clear and hopefully put an end to these requests: We will not reveal any information about our clients, not even confirmation if someone has or has not used our services in the past. Any such requests will be ignored. Repeated requests will be reported to the originating ISP as harassing.
The only exception would be if we are legally obligated to do so by a warrant or court order and even then only after speaking to legal counsel.
Thank You,
Management Tangible Cryptography
+1 +1 from me too. This is how respectable businesses ought to operate. However, there might be complications for Tangible Cryptography specifically because of all the legislation in place everywhere regarding money laundering and reporting. Surely legal advise on the matter is a must. We at Bittalk Media Ltd, the publisher of Bitcoin Magazine, operate under very similar principles as stipulated in OP. Luckily for us money laundering related legislation is clearly not applicably to any sales of magazines, so we have no liabilities on that side. Moreover, as an UK based company we have statutory obligations under Data Protection Act 1998 to take reasonable measures to safeguard personal information of our customers. We are already very careful with this and there is a series of measures planned to be implemented soon to further improve our information security policies.

Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] PIRATEAT40 and BTCST HAS DEFAULTED!

I look forward to resolution with an official announcement...NOT coming from bitlane, smoothie, or similar user.
Fortunately my information has all been right from the horses mouth and has been confirmed by theymos. Considering it doesn't get anymore OFFICIAL than first hand, I would say you are currently up to date. He must be waiting for pirate himself to tell him "so long and thanks for your bitcoins". Could be a long wait.

Well, Monday's well and truely over in every part of the world now...
I'd say pirate didn't deliver as he said to bitlane. That is default #1. No....HE'S JUSTIFIED He's making an example out of me...... Something tells me he couldn't pay you is why you weren't paid. Oh great pirate who has always paid the holy 7% weekly interest has finally not delivered on his word. That's how ponzis work. They deliver on their word religiously... until they don't.

Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to Identify a Ponzi
|

I think this forum shouldn't promote this kind of investment schemes. Many people don't know or don't want to believe that what's too good to be true, it's actually not true. Therfore, this Ponzi schemes should be spotted by more experienced members and the users promoting them should not be allowed to scam people using free (and effective) publicity.
Yes i agree... we should create a cabal to decide what is investment worthy and what isn't. Also this same group should be responsible for padding all the corners of the forum so people dont hurt themselfs. It's quite easy, shut the long-term offers subforum, which is 100% Ponzi. "long-term offer" is quite an euphemism.

You obviously have no permission to use all those PC's and what's more important all the electricity required for you commercial endeavours.
It is not so much about "ethicality" as about criminality.

I can confirm that this thread is in fact being posted by the real Matthew.
In that case, Matthew's regular brain is going to be livid when it is returned to his body by the aliens who borrowed it for experimentation. It's fine to have a wild, speculative wager. As Matthew said, you only live once. But when he talks about keeping his offer open for 3 weeks, that makes no sense under any circumstances. It is indeed very worrying. I think my chances of having lots of free beers in London are shrinking very quickly and asymptotically approach 0 over time.

The are are only 4 possibilities:
1. They have enough BTC to pay all outstanding debts. 2. They have enough USD to buy enough BTC to pay all outstanding debt. 3. Combination of the above. 4. Neither of the above.
by "have" above I mean "have and willing to pay".
if it is 1. then what can be easier than making 5-6 transactions to 5-6 largest PPT's, takes 5 minutes tops. It is not happening. if it is 2. good luck buying so many BTC. if it is 3. ... obvious... if it is 4. well you would have what you see now.

|
on: August 21, 2012, 09:58:16 AM

It has to be a pirate supporter, but I don't think it would be pirate himself..
My first thought was insider info. Typical bitcoin antics. I think Matthew is smarter then to risk 10k btc or being labeled a scammer for alltime. Even on insider info (it can be very wrong you know ) He has a backer. Nope. I would never invest in pirate. I will invest -against- loud mouthed idiot cowards though, any day of the week. I think Matthew just went insane.

Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [POLL] How will Pirateat40's debt repayment unfold?
|

Personally I feel that Pirate will pay back every last BTC. I just joined the forum back in April and it seemed that everyone was one big happy family at first and then all of a sudden the FUD against Pirate absolutely exploded to the point where it seems people are spending their entire day on this forum warning others about the dangers of the "Pirate Ponzi". Think about it - why are people devoting so much of their time and energy worrying about other people's money for absolutely nothing in return? The only explanation I can think of is that this is some sort of psyops that was put into action to try to discredit Bitcoin and contain its rise.
Classic! I must quote this too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockholm_syndrome
