1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Hash board power connector? on: January 15, 2022, 11:54:51 PM
It's been many years since I dabbled in EE&CE. Last computer I built was when a 286 8Mhz AT was the hot ticket Smiley But I already pulled the trigger on eBay so maybe pissed away a little fiat but the picuture looks correct. The term "ATX" came from a blogger repairing these hash boards so can't verify the accuracy. But seems to know what's up at assicbasics.com
Thanks for your insight.

Evidently these are 6Pin ATX connectors. Found some on eBay and be here in a few days. The L3++ running fine on 3 boards once I disabled the Reboot on low hash rate.

3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Hash board power connector? on: January 14, 2022, 11:07:39 PM
Hello,
I have an Ant Miner L3++ that was overclocked and cooked one of the power connectors. I don't want to use that board until I replace the connector. Anyone know the part number and a source?

This would explain why it doesn't have the stock power supply but an up rated 1800W job Smiley
Thanks

4  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Pools and taxes(USA) on: January 11, 2022, 03:23:38 PM
Excellent! That simplifies the data collection so much! I choose 00:00:00 because blockchain.com has Explorer where I can download the daily pricing and they say it is "The average USD market price across major exchanges” the file is marked daily at 00:00:00.
Thanks so much for that insight!

5  Bitcoin / Pools / Pools and taxes(USA) on: January 11, 2022, 01:33:08 PM
I've been reading up on the basic tax implications of mining in a pool. I'm now in Slush which confirms a block reward after 100 subsequent blocks are found basically 1000minutes(16.6hrs) later.

The IRS says that when the BTC is earned it is taxed “Immediately when not subject to substantial risk of forfeiture", that could be taken as when a block is confirmed after the 100 subsequent blocks are mined or when mined initially since Slush pool has a long record for good blocks.

My guess is block confirmation is the safest point in time to value the BTC tax wise. So for yesterday Slush won 10 block and since BTC-USD fluctuates so much, would I need keep track of minute to minute values each day?  Or do miners just use the midnight(00:00:00) price for all blocks for the day? The midnight valuation seems to be Prohash’s approach.
Thanks

If that fan is automatically adjusted to a different speed without temp changes then you can try this one below

Install FMS tool and go to diagnostic and put this command below

[{"command":"ascset","parameter":"0,fan-spd,100"}]

Fan speed will be fixed to 100% you can change it depending on your ASIC temp status.

You can download the FMS tool from this link https://download.canaan-creative.com/fms/
Download the latest one and let see if it will fix your issue.
Hey BitMaxz!!
I just got an old window 10 box and I just remembered your comment, AWESOME. I did just what you said and settled on a 40% fan speed. Wow what a difference not having that oscillating tone. Also switching to slushpool seems to have solved the BOOTBY 11 problem.

Where did you find these commands? How would I test putting the fans back to auto? Change to "1,fan-spd,100" ?
THANKS!!!

7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon Log : BOOTBY[0x0.11000000] What does it mean? on: January 06, 2022, 04:05:09 PM
Hi,
On my Avalon 1246 that BOOTBY 11 seemed connected to using Prohash switching pool. I would get a reboot a couple times a day. I switched that machine to Slushpool 2 days ago and have not had a reboot 11.
8  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Getting Started. Want to pre-order first ASIC. on: January 02, 2022, 11:06:35 AM
My experience was pretty good with BT-Miners. My only suprise was they are shown as a USA vendor and it appears there is a Florida office but the miner was shipped from China.
Also bought two L3++ on ebay one seller was great the other never shipped. My mistake as I missed the bad sellers no ratings.
Good Luck!

I should have gone to Tech Support eariler. Over there is an update to the Log Discription for the BOOTBY field. It gives the actual translation!
So on my 1246 the BOOTBY value is 11 which is "No hashrate in 5 minutes". So now the question is...is this a A1246 problem, a network problem or Prohashing problem.

I see a field on Prohashing under Mining for this miner called "Restart Delay". My guess was this is the time to switch tasks hashing to a different coin or new block (not real clear on the technical details here).

Does this sound reasonable or am I off in left field?

Maybe this is good news?

Thanks everyone, I had figrured I needed a windows box to make things easier and I don't want extra stuff on my macbook so I do have an appointment to get a windows 10 laptop either later today or monday. About what that ebay price but I like local when I can.

That silly 1246 rebooted 4 times in the past 24hrs. Takes about 4minutes to get reconnected and hashing. I did throttle it back to "Normal Mode" yesterday afternoon to let it run a little cooler.

I'm heading over to Canaan tech support to figure out "flashing firmware" Smiley
Thank again
Happy New Year

I just did a 20min power off then boot up. Also added a box fan to blow over the Avalon. I'm confused as to how it could jump to that high temp when every time I'm check they are like now at T=25C, H0=73C, H1=78C, H2=74C. The basement air temp is 64F and where the miner is a couple lower.  Getting some qaulity time looking at that web interface  Grin Thanks a million!

Ugh  Angry FMS is not for MacBook.

Thanks for those suggestions.
Another data point. It just rebooted and this time I immediatly copied the log file. I believe it rebooted due to a spurious temperture signal. TMAX was 89C and yet on reboot it was back to the normal 75C. I've been keeping the web viewer open and looking at temps and what not whenever I think about it and the temps are steady. The unit is located in the basement and there is no external heat source. Also it just running stock firmware 21102801_4ec6bb0_ea6647e.

So far it rebooted 3 time since yesterday, 12/30/21 @ 14:35, 12/31/21 @ 6:16 and 12:27

I'll give that FMS tool a try! and report back!

Happy New Year!!!

New to mining and just got my 1246 up and running on the 28th. It hash rate is 86TH/s on "High Performance" mode and 72TH/s on "Normal Mode" it's making money so good  Grin

But it's fans are cycling from about 2200rpm to 2800rpm about every 20sec. Also it has "rebooted" twice for no appeant reason. It's running cool enough I believe, high is 75C on H0 and H1 and 73C on H2.
Is this normal?
Thanks
