Hrmm perhaps its a networking issue? Is there a firewall or something that could be preventing the packets from reaching your host?

If your router offers the ability to place your host into a DMZ you may want to try that and see if you can connect properly.

Of course only use the DMZ port to test you don't want to leave your PC exposed to the dangers of the Internet.
102  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 16x PCIe GPU not recognized in 1x PCIe slot on: July 17, 2011, 01:57:49 PM
I believe you need a minimum of 4x wired to the slot for a 16x card to work.

Nope I have several 16x Cards running on PCI-E x1 slots as we speak, got the cables from Cablesaurus.

Hrmm perhaps its a PSU issue? Have you tried a more powerful power supply?
103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crossfire Bridge on: July 17, 2011, 01:35:57 PM
You may have already tried this but have tried just plugging in one video card into the PCI-E slot that you suspect is bad?

Because if PC will boot with one video card in the suspected bad slot then the PCI-E slot works and its another issue all together.
104  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin needs its own economy, not exchange rates. on: July 16, 2011, 10:10:04 PM
the problem is that retail usage of BitCoins has not yet gotten anywhere close to a useful level, so people will use BitCoins to get a useful currency in the meantime.

Unlike Linden Dollars which were very usable within the area of SecondLife for nearly everything in-world, including renting a Sim within the world.

I agree until there is enough drive and acceptance from merchants bitcoin will always be leaning on other forms of currency.
105  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Completely new and my initial impressions of trying mining. on: July 16, 2011, 09:59:50 PM
Hrmm so your saying bitcoin.exe is only able to successfully connect via Tor... sounds like a networking issue especially since you got 2 routers in your setup,

I know you said you are port forwarding and all that but I would try this as a quick experiment is to put yourself on the DMZ of your router, preferably the primary router.

Keeping in mind this is just a quick test I don't suggest leaving your computer on the DMZ as your PC will be highly exposed to the dangers of the Internet.

The error looks like you might have to reinstall bitcoin, I had the issue that my bitcoin executable got corrupted when the power went out abruptly and it was mining. I would remove the whole bitcoin directory after you uninstall it and then attempt to re-install.
106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is bitcoin going to catch on or crash and burn? You vote! on: July 16, 2011, 09:42:40 PM
I believe bitcoins will keep going as long as people believe in it and can trade goods & services for it.

108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: cant underclock under 900MHz Memory on ASUS EAH6870 on: July 16, 2011, 09:33:24 PM
I also under clock to 300 or 330 keeps the cards temperatures down from the default limit.
109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: AMD HD 6790 quickest return on investment? on: July 16, 2011, 09:31:12 PM
The difficulty can always go back down >.>

It could in theory but highly unlikely with all the publicity and rave about making money from your GPU. Also people still keep buying up 6990's the instant they are in stock which only tells me more and more people mining or adding more to their existing miners.
110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin markets question. on: July 16, 2011, 08:31:21 PM
What are the differences between all these USD market listings?

Some are worth more or less than others, on a daily basis.

mtgoxUSD
thUSD
b7USD
btcexUSD

list of many other USD's.

I'm bitcoin mining with guiminer. In week or so, I should have one or more BTC's, which market/name would I fall under of the USD market listings? mtgoxUSD?

Just trying to learn. Thanks.

Hello pekv2, they are all just different exchanges, all the ones you listed deal with the dollar,  each has their own fees, payment methods and management structure. So ideally you want to trade with the exchange that offers you the most for your bitcoins whether it be price, payout style or lowest fees. I have used the two biggest ones which are mtgox and tradehill (thUSD) and they were very simple to sell and buy coins I am sure the others are just as good just haven't had a chance to try them.

http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/ shows all the exchanges with their current rates at that moment.

Hope this helps

Now It works. Slowly Sad
I get 12Mhash/s.
I own Quadro FX1800. And the pc becomes slow. Suggestions to be able to browse, at least?

Hrmm running off your GPU shouldn't affect your CPU performance for browsing at least from my understanding.

Perhaps instead of using the GUI miner use some of the other scripts like poclbm.
112  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Point me in the right direction! on: July 16, 2011, 02:15:42 PM
Your not going to get much from a nvidia card, they actually suck. Try not to use them, and invest into some Radeon 6970's.

I would also check how much it costs in electricity and see if its still profitable.

Getting a decent Radeon card would get your ROI back much quicker.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can we turn Bitcoin Mining around this summer? on: July 16, 2011, 02:05:52 PM
Next jump is in four days and it's looking to be about the same as the last...I have a hard time envisioning it going down...

I agree with Randy, I also have a hard time seeing the difficulty go down.
114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much BTC are you generating on an average day mining? on: July 16, 2011, 01:59:35 PM
I generate about 4 BTC a day Grin
115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: July 16, 2011, 01:50:49 PM
I am planning on dropping some "free money" on a $!LLY video card...

What is the sickest, sinlge video card right now? I will eventually cross fire it, but not yet. I plan on spending up to $650ish on it (give or take).

From what I see, it looks like the 6990...but I haven't seen any Mhash/s reviews on the crazy eyfinity 6s they have out now...

-=[.:.Please-Advise.:.]=-

Your looking betwen 700 - 800 on the 6990's Which assuming the lowest price is $700 that's just under $1 per m/hash... I have to tell you that's crazy...

A 5770, Cheapest price? $110, tigerdirect. Typical output that i can attest to? 200 m/hash's Which ='s just over $0.50 per m/hash. If you want crazy performance and outstanding bitcoin mining, grab 3 or 4 5770's and do a crossfire build.

I know the newest and greatest is always the fun way, but if your serious about mining it's the least practical.

I agree with BMFX, bitcoin mining is really an all in or all out and if spending sums of money on video cards hoping to make coins doesn't work out then its probably best to buy coins.
116  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie restrictions on: July 16, 2011, 01:25:06 PM
I think the rules are okay I know of a lot of forums where they require a lot more hours and posts.

Personally I have spent easily over 10 hours each week over the past 2 months, but I finally joined today as a user so I can buy / sell stuff for bitcoins and realized I can't post until I go through these trials.
117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's your Mhash/s? (Pissing contest here) on: July 16, 2011, 01:18:12 PM
I have been running on 6x5970's each card doing 750 Mhashs each and 10x5850's doing also about 330 Mhashs

Average temperatures for all cards about 70C - 78C

Phoenix poclbm VECTORS BFI_INT WORKSIZE=128 AGRESSION=10

I could overlock them a lot more but its hot enough already in my home   Cheesy
