pre-ordered a few! stoked to check them out!

As per usual - nicely done, Sidehack!
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to spend a 100k right on BTC mining farm on: April 18, 2024, 10:31:18 PM
no no I understand that - but thats the point I was trying to make... its a very common practice to use 2P breakers. Just figured I'd mention it as most of us know, electricity is NOT to be trifled with. For the amount of money he wants to spend it just seemed like maybe not a bad idea from the safety perspective. Wasn't trying to say he should use larger asics.

FWIW: I love the single board setups - bought 2 pre-fabbed from Altair and built 3 (19K Pro boards). If I had a spare XP lying around I'd have tinkered with that board as well! (inspired by your other post lol)
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to spend a 100k right on BTC mining farm on: April 17, 2024, 05:51:09 AM
@Danileethier

I have free electricity thats why I don't bother to include, and I have a single phase 120v, thanks for replying mate.

@Philipma

I have a house with 24kw and its extra land in the back, I plan to use that piece of land for the mining farm.

I am thinking about adding large numbers of solar panels on the roof to mine during the day as well, I shouldn't have cooling issues because my compound is mostly breezy all the time.

Thanks for the replies.

are you sure you're working with single phase 120V? Not sure how you'd make a stove/dryer work with that... In the USA - most homes have higher voltage (480V seems to be the standard in my area) coming from the lines which is then run through a transformer which gives you the secondary voltage (usually 208/120 or 240/120).

I'd suggest consulting with an electrical contractor before you purchase anything.
4  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Has your bank or credit card told you they will stop you buying crypto? on: April 17, 2024, 05:03:01 AM
FWIW: I bank with TD Bank (in the USA - not Canada) - and I've got to say.... they are the easiest bank I've, personally, dealt with. I had a similar experience with both Chase Bank AND Bank of America - so I politely requested my account be closed at both institutions and I took my business elsewhere (in this case - Toronto Dominion Bank of North America).

If your bank is employing those sorts of practices - I'd just move elsewhere. I'm sure there is a bank in your area (can also look into Credit Unions) that will not hinder your ability to buy Bitcoin!

Best of luck with whatever course of action you choose.

Cheers!

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool (litecoinpool.org) on: April 15, 2024, 04:23:56 AM
hey there!

Long time fan of your pool! Always used it for literally all of my scrypt miners lol. Just wanted to point something out - my new Elphapex DG1's - for whatever reason..... will NOT connect to the pool on port 3333. After updating the FW and finding the same results - i figured I'd try other ports and on port 8080, it connects with no issue.

There was one time when I didn't put any failover pools in, the miner DID send shares to the pool which reflected on my account dashboard  -  but after about a minute it dropped the stratum connection stating:

This is a pretty solid miner compared to the rest of what is currently available (latest and greatest atm!) and I'm sure I'm not the only person who has encountered this (same thing happened to a buddy of mine down in Florida). And just to clarify - other scrypt miners at my farm all connect via 3333 without any issues at all, and this miner connects to other scrypt pools on port 3333. I gave it a shot on my home network with the same findings. Pretty bizarre.

SO! For anyone else who has a DG1, if you're having issues connecting it to this pool - give this a shot!

Cheers!
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Anyone else experiencing high DOA rate on new Whatsminers? on: April 12, 2024, 04:50:43 AM
haven't personally purchased any (as you know, I buy a lot of Bitmain machines from you guys at Altair!) WM machines - but I HAVE seen similar complaints on Reddit regarding the M50/S+M60/S having QC issues.
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to spend a 100k right on BTC mining farm on: April 11, 2024, 05:13:54 AM
I built my facility in NYS (Northeastern USA). My power cost is 12.34c/kWh (cost is just under 7.6c but factoring in delivery/tax it comes out to 12.34c - I'd suggest you form an LLC, I used NCAIS Code 518210 which is "Data Processing Services" because without doing so, I was unable to qualify for the industrial power gen rate. It may be different for you but you may need to have an EIN to prove you're not a "residential entitity".)

I would strongly suggest keeping some cash on hand for those sort of "surprise" expenses (I didn't factor cost of huge spools of Cat6 wire/networking equipment/mini-split AC units/dehumidifiers/electrical receptacles, wire concealing pipes, boxes for the receptacles, phase combining breakers, 8 AWG wire spools/FANS (i went to a Restaurant Supply shop in Queens, NY and bought some industrial, louvered, kitchen exhaust fans I framed and mounted in the windows that I use as exhaust outlets)/etc...

The point I'm trying to drive home here is - keep some cash on hand.

All of the miners you've mentioned are going to create a TREMENDOUS amount of heat - and they will need to be allowed to BREATHE.

If 100K is your budget - I'd honestly spend 72.5-77.5K on equipment and keep the rest on hand. Considering the halving is about to clock in - I might honestly just buy BTC with 35-40K, spend 35-40K on mining equipment, and keep the rest as emergency cash.

Whatever you wind up doing - wish you the best of luck and hope you find success!

Edit: I totally missed that you said you want to do this in your HOUSE! What country are you in? Regardless - that is an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF NOISE and HEAT EXPENDITURE!!!!! I'd STRONGLY suggest scaling WAAAAAAAAY down - unless you've got a barn or some other sort of structure on your property that is not attached to your house - OR.... Rent a warehouse space. My 2 sats! (<- see what I did there? lol... I say that in front of my friends who aren't bitcoiners instead of "my 2 cents" and they look at me like I have 5 heads lmao)

Thank you all for the info! I purchased mine in January. Still no tracking info on my indiegogo page - soon hopefully!

I did order them with PSUs.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Introducing Apollo II on: April 05, 2024, 04:10:43 AM
Hey hey!

So just got my FE today. Beautiful machine! Question though.... I am unable to access the machine via local IP the way I was able with the Gen1 Apollo BTC. Is there anything I need to do with the machine to enable monitoring via other local machines?
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano 3 [unofficial thread] on: April 05, 2024, 03:58:47 AM
Did you guys get any sort of tracking info? I ordered 2 black ones back in January and just saw yesterday they sent an email saying Black ones were shipping now, but no tracking info or anything from Canaan nor from Indiegogo. Just curious if you guys were just sort of surprised by FedEx or if you were expecting delivery when you got them?

Very cool - so looking at the way you've got it running, have you fitted it with a Loki Kit? (just curious). Looks like you've got it running on 240+ Voltage.

I don't know why I didn't think to fire them up without it.... I bought a couple pre-fabbed units from Altair but also built 3 of my own. I have them all doing their thing in garages/basements lol.

Just thinking though.... when I built out the electrical in my farm, I ran a bunch of 100% Duty Rated L6-30R receptacles to 35A Phase Combining breakers with 8 AWG wiring going from the panel to the receptacles.

Most of my PDU meters will show a constant draw of about 5.2-5.6 kW (with a total *peak* capacity of 7.2). Could totally fill out some of the available headroom with more setups like these where that would be safe but running an additional whole-miner setup would not. As we near the warmer months - the garage chimneys will, more than likely, have to be powered down or relocated... Maybe this is my solution.

Happy to see you making progress here! Curious... which model Noctua fans did you use? and would you say it is quiet enough to run in, lets say - a living room?

I noticed the same as you regarding lower clocks on the UMC vs BRAIINS. Using BRAIINS, setting the frequency under 368 MHz on my single board 19K miner results in failure to start hashing at all - works like a charm, however, using PowerPlay on the UMC.

Excited to see what sort of a case design you wind up with!
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New Project. A 1 board s19 110 pro. Some photos to follow on: February 21, 2024, 10:17:08 AM
that should definitely be achievable! I purchased a BitChimney from Altair Tech (along with 3 other 3D Printed Shells - my ender 3 pro just died, but I want to make more of them before deciding between Creality and Bambu lol).

The BitChimney, utilizing a single S19K Pro board, an APW3+, a Loki Kit from PivotolPlebTech, and a Xilinx controller with BRAIINS (or a UMC w/ Powerplay), pulls similar figures.

The screenshot linked is running on US residential power (116V measured at the wall with a Spartan meter *purchased from Amazon for about $25 - not the most accurate tool but close enough*)

edit: not sure why the image isn't showing but here is the imgur link. https://imgur.com/a/jzDXUv6

Love to see more people exploring the possibilities of what can be done with low power expenditure - getting residential mining enthusiasts back online with far more impactful hashrate. Looking forward to seeing how you make out!
15  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Antminer S21: Bitmain’s Game Changer in the Bitcoin Mining World. on: February 21, 2024, 09:38:52 AM

So a rated 3500 watt unit will sometimes do 3650 watts.

you are 100% correct! I ordered several S21's but only 1 from the jan batch. I can say, with the utmost certainty, it pulls on average 3.621 kW @ the wall. Your prediction is extremely accurate lol.

All the same - the miner averages about 204 TH/S which is solid. Hoping to be able to undervolt/underclock it for even greater efficiency (wouldn't sacrifice more than 10% HR - but if I can drop it .5-1.5 J/TH like I was able with my 19K Pros - i'll be happy.
You are very lucky newer got under 3900w Smiley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWVqNSx4YUI
. 300 x 24 = 7200 watts a day.

35 cents a day at five cent power.
70 cents a day at 10 cent power.

A small commercial mine like mine has 70 pieces

we are near 5 cents.

so we lose 25 usd a day in power. or 9125 dollars a year.

It is a lot for us.

Totally get that, Phil. I am also a very small farm owner (smaller than you!) I have about 30 Machines running full time at 1 location, and about 8 at another. It, undoubtedly, hurts... I just had to pay a $5,961 power bill this afternoon. But - Even tuning my 19K Pro's down to about 98 TH/S utilizing the ePIC UMC's Voltage Optimizer, the S21 in LPM is still more efficient.

Is it like - absolutely revolutionary? No. Is it an improvement from what I was using prior? Absolutely. Also - comparing it to the MicroBT or Canaan offerings, it still seems to be the clear go-to choise from my perspective.
I actually just received a 188T S21 from Altair yesterday that I got up and hashing today - am VERY pleased to announce that thus far, it is pulling 3.38 kW @ 192 TH/S (average). I only have 2 S21's - will be taking delivery of several more in the next month or so. Will certainly update this thread with some power figures next time I drive up to my farm.
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitman S19 Pro hydro - spare hasboard on: February 21, 2024, 09:17:33 AM
gone - as in totally dead? physically damaged? or does it just have 1/multiple bad strings of chips hindering the board?

The board may be repairable... but if it's not, I would reach out to AltairTech (have personally purchased tons of miners/parts from them over the past 4-6 months, if you're in the USA - you'll get everything FAST!) or MineFarmBuy and see if they are able to replace the board if you're certain that it's irreparable. Both very trustworthy vendors who offer parts for those machines.

Best of luck!
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / DISHONEST VENDOR on: February 21, 2024, 08:46:38 AM
I am a small-farm owner ( <100KW - about 30 Machines altogether) and I was enticed by an AsicMinerValue trusted seller’s listing of a “Bitmain Antminer S21Pro”. I also host a discord server with a bunch of friends from my childhood/college/other mining friends.

Vipera LLC offered a product for pre-order, the Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro (250TH/S). As Vipera is a "trusted" vendor on the ASICMinerValue site - and I have actually read about individuals purchasing from them, successfully, I thought pre-ordering from them was a safe bet. I initially ordered 2 S21's, but after a few friends STRONGLY SUGGESTED I don't order any as nothing else reflected that the miner actually existed, I asked for the order to be changed from 2 to 1.

The saleswoman, Sabrina Monte, was frankly RUDE throughout the entire process - but I overlooked this and assumed maybe english was a secondary language.

About a month ago - I was informed by several discord members that Vipera had pulled the miner from their website - hadn't changed it to sold out, or "production delayed/cancelled" - just straight up REMOVED the page. So - I had a look and I noticed that the news articles about "Vipera securing 1500 units" had all disappeared, with the exception of 1 medium article that, in fact, was posted BY VIPERA.

I had started to email the sales rep, Sabrina Monte, about 6 weeks ago to no avail, and about a month ago - started receiving notifications saying "undeliverable". So - I reached out to the general sales email address and received an explanation to the tune of "Bitmain cancelled the S21 Pro 2 weeks ago, but we can send you an S21 200T".

What's the old expression - to little too late? I am, frankly, disappointed. I recommended this company to followers for this specific miner as they were a "trusted ASICMinerValue" vendor. I reached out to them for a LONG TIME over the phone, and never actually got someone to answer (their answering machine says they aren't available, then makes you listen to music for a few minutes before it actually lets you record a message". Because I have never encountered an answering machine that makes you listen to hold music - I figured it was a farse. I initiated a chargeback with Goldman Sachs after trying to get in touch with a HUMAN at Vipera for over 14 days.

Lots of my friends told me I was crazy for walking away from a career to pursue a bitcoin venture full time - and all of those individuals, today, ask me how and where to invest in Bitcoin. I am very passionate about Bitcoin and want, very much, for it to have a stellar reputation/ecosystem - ASIC Vendors exhibiting this type of behavior, are hindering that.

What if I was a first-time ASIC buyer? What if the $4500 (give or take) was make/break money for me? This would be a huge problem....

Had I not reached out to them, what would've happened? Would they have kept my money and I never would've received a miner until it was WELL OUTSIDE of the chargeback time period?

We need HONEST VENDORS IN THE CRYPTO SPACE. I would've loved to give Vipera the benefit of the doubt... but the fact that they, allegedly, knew the miner wouldn't be produced and I actually had to initiate a chargeback to get in contact with them - not a good look.

I am posting this for several reasons.... First and foremost, mining community protection. Second - so all of my discord members can see this and understand that I was NOT trying to push a fake miner on them for ANY SORT OF MONETARY GAIN OF MY OWN.

I asked Vipera to edit the Medium article, chalking it up to a misunderstanding - and all they kept doing was ridiculing me, and asking me to see my YouTube channel (so what - if I happen to be someone with a youtube following THEN they will treat me right?). No. This is SO WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS.

Maybe they had an employee who was dishonest and alleged that they could secure this order - maybe they were short on cash and needed the preorder capital to stay afloat - I have no idea. But this is THE WORST experience I have ever had - ANYWHERE - trying to purchase an ASIC.

The Vipera Team had so many chances to make this right - and they just didn't.

I was ridiculed by the live chat agent (as this is the ONLY person I was actually able to start a dialogue with as they blocked my email address *general sales emails were returned after they replied to the first one offering to replace the more expensive S21 "Pro" with a regular one*). I pre-order machines for a reason... like most of you I'm sure do as well... Why on earth would I want a machine I have NEVER paid that much for, after being conned out of a superior machine that ceases to exist? And a 1 line email? Then ridiculing me for initiating a chargeback?

Sorry for ranting - but this is just not right.

Images of the email stonewall (blocking my address...) can be seen here. I left several voicemails which were never returned - and when speaking with them in the LiveChat (unfortunately they blocked me from that as well, so I was unable to screenshot them ridiculing me for only ordering 1 machine...). Regardless, you can sort of get the picture here. See the article the published about the machine - my order - and them, admittedly, being informed "2 weeks" prior to my reaching out for an explanation after they made the machine disappear from their website and not having informed anyone who pre-ordered said machines.
https://imgur.com/a/YCPHYxi
Just sad.

19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: testing epic controller. on antminer s19xp on: January 28, 2024, 10:39:13 PM
Hey! First - I appreciate your feedback and Yes - you’re correct. It took a few weeks to get locked in to an industrial electricity rate (had to form an LLC and show articles of incorporation to get the power company to offer it and for whatever reason it took the department of treasury almost 60 days). I was looking to undervolt / under clock mostly to increase efficiency which the boards did actually work very well for. Tuning the 19K Pro’s to 106T with the ePIC’s voltage optimizer keeps them hashing at a stable 2350w (a few machines much more efficient - 1 or 2 much less lol).

And I know lol - even at the. 11.2 cents / kWh the numbers are a bit iffy - but I’ve got some S21’s that I’ve started to take delivery of so running these alongside those until I retire them seems pretty decent comparatively looking at other machines at that price point. With regard to efficiency, the UMC’s definitely helped me get to where I wanted to be. So I guess what I want to add here is this - for anyone considering them, I can’t speak to how far you can push the chips/boards for maximum HR, but if you’re looking to max out the efficiency while maintaining an impactful hashrate, the boards are a solid choice.

And yeah I paid for the machines in late September so I paid closer to $1500 USD/S19k Pro. Anticipating the machines will follow the market price of BTC as they have in past cycles.

20  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Asin A1 23TH on: January 02, 2024, 07:40:33 AM
are you in the USA or elsewhere? Generally the only breakers that are above 15A in the USA are for appliances (microwave / fridge / range / etc... and those would be anywhere between 20A-100A). You can download an Ohm's Law app (or just do the math - Voltage x Current = Wattage) and make sure you're leaving yourself some headroom.

In the event that you DO seem like the headroom *should* be there, but you've got breakers tripping, it's not a bad idea to kill the power to the circuit in question and just make sure all of the wiring is SNUG. Anything that may havee come loose (on the receptacle screw-down terminals for example...) can add resistance to the circuit, thus increasing the power draw slightly.
