1  Bitcoin / Press / 2014-08-07 Cointelegraph - Open Letter to the World Health Organization on: August 07, 2014, 10:21:23 AM

Quote
Dear WHO,

We at CoinTelegraph have recently been made aware of the Ebola virus outbreak currently sweeping across Africa. With the death toll of almost 900 people in several months, and with several cases reported in the UK and the US, we cannot just stand by the wayside and do nothing, especially since it has become easier than ever to do something.

Back in 2008, Bitcoin was emerged on the scene as the first peer-to-peer decentralized currency. In 2014, this digital currency has grown and matured. Now anyone can send money instantly to any point in the world with almost zero friction and for a negligible fee compared to conventional money transfer methods.

With Bitcoin’s popularity on the rise in Africa in particular, it is a no brainer for us that this technology can make a real difference on the ground in Africa. Specifically, this money will go to the World Health Organization who will use it to develop a cure and vaccine for the Ebola virus.

This is why we have set up a digital wallet for donations, where everyone from anywhere in the world can send any amount instantly. We believe this is the next generation of crowdfunding that circumvents any red tape, bureaucracy, and is the most effective tool currently available to gather the necessary funds to resolve this urgent problem.

lol i think you can trust all the same. no exchange wil try to scam you since that would be just bad advertisement. No lock that cant be broken exist on Earth, so all exchanges can also be hacked. But if you wil think only of this you will not get nowhere. Just pick exchange, and buy. put on your wallet and forget about it for a year or 2.

BTW, i never saw on Poloniex anywhere close to 500 BTC offered to buy XMR as are now. 200 BTC was for over 0.0039.

Ok, i think that I will use Poloniex and hitbtc. Do you happen to know any exchanges with better terms than Poloniex and hitbtc?

I've been trading on Poloniex for a couple of months and i'm going to continue using this exchange.
But I know that there are 0% fees for xmr orders on hitbtc, must try to use it as well.

I hope Monero will be the one who survives and many others think so. I just do not yet know what is the advantage of Monero in relation to these other coins?

Bytecoin (BCN) was not fairly distributed. Monero has network effect going for it in the cryptonote space.

Yea, bytecoin remains underground and this is quite strange

Hi, I'd like to ask how much time does it takes to install the official wallet?

Sometimes it shows that there are some problems and errors, is it ok?

What's your favourite online game?
You must also post a link to it.

And by "online game", I mean a flash game you can play in your browser. (Not Minecraft (and don't think that just because I'm saying this it is a good idea to post it))

My favourite online game is Happy Wheels.

This game is amazing!  Grin

Kingdom of Heaven (2005) by Ridley Scott - an epic film about the Crusades in Jerusalem in the Middle Ages. Make sure to find the Director's cut though, because it is far, far better than the theatrical release version of the film.

"The Hunt"

The Oscars may finally recognize "The Hunt" in the Best Foreign Language Film category? The intense drama stars Mads Mikkelsen ( "Hannibal") as a teacher whose life changes when a kindergartner kisses him on the lips. Suddenly, the close-knit community the teacher enjoys turns against this alleged pedophile. The friendships he took for granted disintegrate. The Danish star, who won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival, beautifully underplays this common man in uncommon crisis. -- T.A.

Saw this movie last year, definitely one of my favorites ever. Excellent performance by Mikkelsen and really cool premise.

I also heard many good things about this movie!

Has anyone watched Filth? My friend has recommended this movie to me.

A bag full of hatred and disgust. But the book is much more horrible.
