Fiat currencies are important for the bitcoin economy.

First of all, why is gold/silver or any other commodity valuable for people? Why is the US dollar valuable for people?

Despite of fiat currencies losing their ties to commodities like gold or silver in the 20th century, fiat currencies retained status of money because of memory of previous money prices. Gold don´t circulates as a medium of exchange, prices are set in USD, not in gold, if people want to trade in gold they do it based on their knowledge in USD/gold price ratios.

The same applies for bitcoin to serve as a medium of exchange. Like I said before, bitcoin have value today due to memory of previous money prices, based in the BTC/USD price ratios or BTC/other fiat currency price ratios.

In the beginning, the very first bitcoin exchanges established a price for bitcoin, and that wasn´t an accident, it was a very important step to make bitcoin transactions possible in the future, this way people are able to set a price for good or services.

Como é que poderei pagar em BRL?

Estou interessado em comprar em euros, se me venderes seria ótimo. Estou disposto a pagar um bocado acima dos exchange rates habituais, comprando p2p já estou a prever ter que pagar um pouco mais do que numa corretora.

Exigindo registo mas não exigindo dados pessoais, possivelmente através do Tor browser e usando um proton mail, comprando com paypal deve ser a mesma coisa.

O que me está a deixar cada vez mais interessado em comprar bitcoin p2p foram estas últimas polémicas relacionadas com corretoras, nomeadamente a FTX, entre outras. Para além disso, é uma experiência que quero ter como bitcoiner, e talvez nunca mais usar corretoras.

Personally, I recommend to people that keep bitcoin in an exchange to read and search about cold card. Probably another good self custody/cold wallets out there, but once someone recommended me this one and I am enjoying to use it. I am also using Electrum.

Since I store my sats and I started my self custody journey, I am a lot more motivated to learn about the bitcoin network, and to buy and store my sats properly. Bitcoin really empowers people.

Of course, devices like the cold card have a learning curve, at the beginning, it will seem difficult, but after you learn about it, you will realize that is simple. What I did it was make very small transactions, withdraw very small amounts from exchange until I felt comfortable to withdraw all my sats from the exchange.

These last days I checked coinmarket cap (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/) several times to check the volume traded in the last 24 hours. I know that this value is a hard thing to measure due to wash trading.

So during these last days, the volume traded in 24 hours is usually between 30 billion and 36 billion USD.

In the last 24 hours, accordingly to coinmarketcap, it was traded more than 102 billion USD in bitcoin markets.

I don´t want to spend a lot of money, something until 1k will be enough for me. However, I will think about it.

Can someone send me a tutorial (if there is any available) about a cheap mining equipment and how to set up the equipment?

Interested in mining bitcoin at home, I know that isn´t profitable like some years ago, but it´s an experience that I would like to live during my bitcoin journey.

O caminho para a aceitação da bitcoin é longo mas um dia vai chegar. Acredito que daqui a 10/20 anos a bitcoin será algo aceite pela maioria da população e mais fácil de utilizar do que nos dias de hoje.

Não gosto de ter cartões de corretoras, prefiro usar uma app como a Blue Wallet ou Wallet of Satoshi e fazer pagamentos usando o lightning network. Nunca fiz um pagamento usando o lightning network e gostava de fazer.

Daqui a 2 semanas vou viajar até à ilha da Madeira, recentemente vi que o presidente da região autónoma da Madeira esteve na Bitcoin Conference e anunciou que a Madeira ia adotar a Bitcoin como meio de transação e isenção de taxas (o que já acontece no resto do país), parece-me difícil para já devido a regulamentações e afins, de qualquer forma gostaria de saber se alguém que viva na Madeira ou tenha estado lá recentemente consiga dizer-me se é possível fazer pagamentos em Bitcoin na ilha?

Bitcoin is being more adopted worldwide everyday, this means that the price is less volatile each day and is more difficult to someone affect the price of bitcoin and I think that he won´t affect the price of bitcoin whatever he says. In the long run definitely nobody will affect the price of bitcoin just for sharing some thoughts on twitter.

What I like in bitcoin is that you can have all the money in the world, be a billionaire and you simply can´t control the network. You have the same power of someone that have 1000$ in bitcoin. Obviously you can sell large amounts of bitcoin and affect the price, but I think that this already have not a big effect in the price anymore because whales buy and sell large amounts of bitcoin everyday.

Individuals with very different net worths have the same power, are equal in the bitcoin network. This is freedom. This is bitcoin.
