1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we all buy a Bitcoin Pizza? on: May 12, 2022, 07:56:50 PM
BTC is deflationary by design. Lots of people (like myself!) don't want to spend BTC for everyday purchases, as the value tends to go up over time. I would argue that this is an advantage of BTC. Lots of unhealthy consumer activity is driven by the fact that fiat savings lose value to inflation over time -- that is, it makes more sense to spend your money on goods you don't necessarily need than it does to save USD and watch it fall in value. I like the idea of BTC being "digital gold".

Miner fees also come into play. For small transactions (say, a few bucks for a cup of coffee), the miner fees cost more than the item itself.

1. This technology is still in its infancy. It's difficult to tell where BTC will go in the next few decades for the same reason it would've been difficult for computer scientists in the 1950s to predict the role of computers in the modern day. Nobody can tell you when (or if) BTC will hit six-digit prices.

2. You have to be very patient. Understand that BTC doesn't exist in a vacuum and that problems in the fiat market have an impact on its price. Lots of people are losing money and turning into doomsday prophets. If you're interested in making money from your BTC, it might make sense to wait a few weeks for volatility to settle down before you buy in. Also, be aware that these wild price changes are "normal" in the crypto world. If you're the type of person that is prone to panic-selling, BTC might not be right match for you.

3. Don't kick yourself for not buying early. Finding a technology that has promise and discovering it before everyone else and having your investment work out perfectly is very, very rare. If you understand how BTC works and believe that it has value, then it's not too late to get involved. You don't need to 100x your money for an investment to be worthwhile.

4. Don't invest money you can't afford to lose. Don't bet your life savings on BTC hitting $1,000,000 in 20 years. FOMO sucks, but losing everything is worse.

Good luck.
