161  Economy / Securities / Re: Question about 100th/s mine on: May 30, 2013, 11:47:42 PM
I'm interested in investing in 100th/s but am confused about how the bonds work.  The mine will be ~100TH/s, which is huge, but does that actually mean anything for individual bond holders?  A bond awards the bondholder a dividend equivalent to the output of 200 MH/s of mining power.  If I purchase five bonds, I have 1 GH/s. Won't I then receive dividends proportional to 1 GH/s, regardless of the size of the mine?  What advantages, besides power consumption, share price, and how soon it comes online, does a large mine like 100th/s give bondholders relative to other smaller operations where I could also purchase the equivalent of 1 GH/s of mining power?

I think there may be something to be said about such a large production not being able to just run off. They might also be able to industrial electricity rates to reduce their operating expenses. Otherwise yes, it would appear that 100 TH is simply a 200 MH/s mining bond.
162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ASIC STATUS 5/29 on: May 30, 2013, 05:50:58 PM
You know.. their hardware looks pretty nice. Whereas the Avalon and ASICMINER boards look slapped together*, these things have some appeal to them. Now if only they could get them out the door at an acceptable pace.

*- love my Block Eruptor but hot damn is it ugly.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: May 29, 2013, 10:52:05 PM
PCBs don't strike me as an ideal component to utilize in the case itself. I suppose so long as we can tear the case apart and stack them then there's no problem there.
164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Should I sell my Jalapeno? Seems to be working fine, but... on: May 29, 2013, 08:22:04 PM

For $3000 I would sell the baby.
If the difficulty increases at its current rate you will not make that much in block rewards.

Forget difficulty... There's a more serious wave approaching from a distance.

Go away bear, we want the OP to take more BTC off the market with his sale and pump the price even further. BTC TO THE MOOOOOOOON!!!!!

did I do well as a BTC speculation troll?
165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Should I sell my Jalapeno? Seems to be working fine, but... on: May 29, 2013, 04:29:44 PM
I'd sell it and hold the BTC*. Purchase additional hardware once someone can ship out product the next day. By then the prices will have plummeted and we'll have a better idea on long-term BTC profitability.

*- assuming you are bullish on BTC. Otherwise hold the resulting USD.
166  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Off-Topic on: May 29, 2013, 03:08:15 AM
Neat solution for housing boards. Would like to see an option without the powersupply but with the case.

why

I own several 1200w gold/platinum rated PSUs. When I eventually liquidate my GPU farm I'd like to reuse those PSUs for a BTC ASIC farm. Why pay $300 extra plus the extra shipping costs?
167  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GPU Profitability Equation on: May 28, 2013, 11:29:50 PM
I tried searching for this but have come up short so far. I'm looking for the equation to calculate how profitable a GPU is based on its wattage, hash rate and whatever else is needed. I'm not the greatest with math but I know some of you here are Smiley
I'm gonna share this, but only if you promise to work on your Google-fu.

Another option -> dustcoin.com/mining
168  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] Graet.Loan - Paying 0.05% interest daily on: May 28, 2013, 10:26:58 PM
Nice offering. To those asking about a PT.. Why more counterparty risk? Spend five minuted making an account.

By the way, CoinLenders currently pays out more than this.

I know this is off topic (but it kind of is on topic) - doesn't CoinLenders require a minimum investment of 1btc (off the top of my head, been a while since I looked)? This allows for 0.01.

This also appears to be a good option for rolling the dividends of other ventures. Hadn't heard of CoinLenders, I'll look into it.

I used two dual 4-pin molex -> 6-pin PCIe adapters running 4 5970s on an AX1200. Ran two of those rigs with no problems for ~9 months.
171  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BFL Single (FPGA) for 8.5 BTC From Toronto on: May 28, 2013, 06:05:14 AM
Sent you an offer but no response. Time is running out for the FPGA upgrade window with BFL.
172  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL upgrade now offered on 5ghz orders.(screenshot) on: May 27, 2013, 10:59:49 PM
I emailed BFL asking if the ASIC upgrade would be extended for FPGAs. I was told it will not extend past May 31st. BFL FPGA's are about to plummet in price if you haven't upgraded them already.

edit: Oops, wrong thread but still interesting info.
173  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: *New PCI-E Based ASIC miners 1.2th/s - 1.9th's +\- 10%* on: May 26, 2013, 04:54:32 PM
Any of you ever consider that the level of transparency from the OP is a good thing?  If he openly shares who he is wouldn't that show some commitment to legitimacy?  Just a thought.  I'm looking forward to you "hero" folks eatting your words.   Nice to see people here are so consumed with anger and paranoia that they can't see straight. Get some fresh air. Espessially you smoothie.

When the numbers don't even remotely add up it puts the community on edge. Considering how many scam attempts we are exposed to on a daily basis, it is no surprise that they scream scam the moment something appears to be wrong.
174  Economy / Securities / Re: [PicoStocks] 100TH/s bitcoin mine [100th] on: May 24, 2013, 01:50:12 AM
Is there another place to purchase 100TH stocks besides picostocks?
175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Openday on: May 23, 2013, 06:36:09 PM
I don't understand, why take the time and effort to create an FPGA miner when everyone is already moving into ASIC?  I mean given that BFL is now actually shipping, you can get a jalapeno for $275 at 5gh/s vs a mars unit from kncminer for $2800 at 6gh/s.  That's a huge price difference.

With Avalon, ASICMiner, and BFL units shipping and the difficulty skyrocketing, it's possible that if you buy a mars unit from kncminer you may never pay it off and break even, let alone make any profit.

There must be something I'm missing or not understanding, so please forgive my ignorance.  Don't take this as an attack on kncminer - they claim to be working on ASICs as well as releasing this FPGA unit, but I'm just curious as why they aren't focusing 100% on ASICs.

Mars is a proof of concept and a means to gain legitimacy within the community. Makes sense to me, especially if they can run the ASIC and FPGA development in parallel.

I am considering KnCMiner as a means to diversify my hardware purchases. With the answers to my previous questions, if you go all in and buy a Jupiter from KnC, your Mars is effectively $800. If you don't or Jupiter never materializes, it could be tough to simply hit ROI.

Even if the OP meant Gh and not Th, why would anyone trust someone who so easily confuses two extremely different values?  Especially when said person is claiming to be from a team of engineers with 150 years of experience.

Poor grammar? check
Poor spelling? check
No evidence of existing product? check

So far the only thing this guy has going for him is the poweredbyamd.com email address.  Can't believe someone was silly enough to send this guy 2BTC.. then again, it is the internet.

From what I can tell, poweredbyamd is not affiliated with AMD in any way.
177  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KnCMiner Openday on: May 23, 2013, 06:05:56 PM
I stopped following the other thread. Someone who has been following along, does it appear that these guys are legit? Also, if you purchase a Mars FPGA board, is that $2000 voucher a trade-in or simply a credit towards a Jupiter?
178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: *New PCI-E Based ASIC miners 1.2th/s - 1.9th's +\- 10%* on: May 23, 2013, 03:12:41 PM
The problem is your numbers do not add up. Above Lethos did the math for a 1.2-1.9 TH/s device based on Avalon chips. Unless you are overclocking them by an order of magnitude or two, you aren't achieving this on a PCIe card. Many PCIe cards? Sure. One card that fits in a standard case powered by one 6-pin connection pulls at most 150w if you stick with the PCIe spec.

Are you sure you didn't mean 1.2-1.9 GH/s per card? If that is the case then this is all one big misunderstanding and plausible.
179  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] BFL 5/GHz "Jalapeno" order no. 116XX on: May 22, 2013, 02:42:30 PM
Hot damn scam. Supreme trolling by both the OP and the crowd.
180  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon recondition on: May 21, 2013, 04:14:37 PM
Incredible how poorly applied the thermal compound was coming out of the factory. Also incredible how the ~200w blade was able to not overheat with such poor thermal transfer. I guess it must have been radiating a lot of heat from the top of the PCB?

edit: One other thing, you might want to put some thermal paste under the VRM section. They aren't producing a lot of heat but it is something to consider.
