1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S9 soldering on: December 05, 2023, 02:45:20 AM
What capacitor exactly you are trying to replace? Is that the electrolytic or the ceramic capacitor?

My guess the reason why you can't melt them it's because the soldering iron you use has an oxidized tip try to clean it first and apply some flux before you solder the capacitor.

If it does not help you will need a BGA hot air to help to melt them out.

The Aluminum Solid Capacitors there was three in a row and they all bent and broke. Thanks, I'll clean off the tip, get some flux and try again this weekend.

Im looking to replace some of the capacitors and took a 100w solder but I couldn't melt them out? Is it a different material than regular tin/lead solder?

4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: May 15, 2023, 11:33:44 PM
That is an extremely high clock setting and unless you have special cooling (water , liquid nitrogen etc) you won't be able to run the USB stick at that setting.
If you do have sufficient cooling, most USB hubs will not be able to provide sufficient power to hold that frequency.

IMHO these devices should stay under 600Mhz for most use cases.

Ive got one that is running 575mhz and another 650mhz both with bitcoin merch fans. I've slowly been bumping them up slowly the past couple months. Just two on a Gekko hub with a 6pin psu from an S9

Got them clocked to 700MHz but they seem to be working their way down. They will hold then one will reset and work up to a lower MHz. Then the next one. Is it the voltage ? Or do I need to change the start MHz up to around 700MHz? After a while they stopped around 650Mhz and been holding it.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: May 01, 2023, 12:50:12 AM
The power output limits of the hub are internal. If your input power can push more than about 12V/12A, the hub itself will be the limiter in how much juice you can deliver to sticks.

If you're going over about 8 amps, you need to use the 6-pin. The barrel is rated for 8A max.

Ive plugged in a 6pin S9 psu to the hub but seems like I need to bump up the MHz to receive the Gh I was off using a barrel?

Question: I'm sure this is as basic as it sounds, but in general how many sticks can I power off a standard home outlet? 20A Circuit. I'm assuming if each is drawing around 3A then maybe I can run 6? Just didn't know if its truly as simple as that.
Um, it's not... Each stick is pulling 3A at 5vdc or 15w. In North America all standard 120VAC outlets are 15A, not 20. 120v * 15A = 1,800w if pushed to the max (not a good idea to do 24x7). Thass a whole lotta sticks Smiley

The Gekkoscience 8 Port USB Hub 2.0 could you hook it up to a 20a power supply vs a 10a for more amperage to the miners? or does the 6 pin offer more, I've never messed with it?

Any one replace the fans for something not as loud? Or replace with a Noctua (RPM isn't as much) and even taking a hashboard or two out?  Apartment mining for me the less noise the better.

there are multiple threads on low powered s9 builds.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5160194.0

that thread may help

Thanks, I checked out some of your videos I might try one hashboard. Did you change the stock fan? And what worked better, Hashboard in the middle or off to the side when it came to keeping the hashboard cool with wood added?

Had commented on compac f but found this forum (sorry for all the same people) couldn't find if any one else had "found 0 chips".
So does it mean it got burnt up? I was running it at 550MHz
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: March 25, 2023, 12:51:17 AM
My R909 was set at 550 and was running fine I came back a little later and now its 540. What caused that/do I need to adjust the volt screw?

Well a couple days later it turned into a zombie.
Not sure what happen but it's saying 0 chips found.
Ive unplugged, restarted it and let it rest but I want to say maybe It got burnt up?

Any one use a Libre Computer Board AML-S905X-CC (Le Potato) 2GB 64-bit to run their Compac F? It states it has 100 Mb Fast Ethernet would that make any difference? Just seen different alternative to the Raspberry Pi and seeing if any ones used a cheaper mini computer?
14  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: February 09, 2023, 03:51:33 AM
Try unplugging the stick for 30 seconds and then plug it back in. Do you have a USB tester?

No tester and I had tried unplugging for a moment hoping it might reset it then plugging it in to a different port and still nothing.
15  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: February 09, 2023, 03:05:14 AM
Not sure what's up added a second compac f got it running then the gh/s went from say 300/400 down below 200 and reset. After doing this running for a moment then rest a few times, it now quit running, has a white light on and states found 0 chip(s) ?

What type of hub are you using? It maybe that the USB hub isn't able to supply enough juice.

Also what's your cooling setup like?

I've got the gekkoscience hub with the bitcoinmerch cooling fans attached. I was messing with it a min ago and ran the problem one alone and now it is staying on red light and comes up with the same - Found 0 chip(s). I even unhooked the fans to see and still nothing. It tries to run but the miner isn't connecting and it just goes through the reset cycle.

up date:
I tried starting the start cycle up and found some posts of the same problem on 2pac.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5115737.0

I think I got a dull.
If you think of anything that could fix it I'll try but I'm going to contact the company I ordered it from.

17  Bitcoin / Mining support / Cgminer install on a Mac on: January 28, 2023, 04:20:40 PM
new to this process and learning more and more.

But I've gone to GitHub

https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/mac-build.txt

And installed everything under terminal till the API and now I'm lost......

(copy)
Accessing the API
-----------------

To access the API it is easiest to install Java
   https://java.com/

Ensure you have enabled the API e.g.
   --api-enable --api-allow "W:127.0.0.1"

Then in a terminal after installing and running cgminer:
   cd Library/Caches/Homebrew/cgminer--git/
   java API estats
(copy)

I downloaded java yet still don't understand
