21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What main reasons are there against tinting coins? on: January 21, 2015, 01:14:19 PM
It destroys the currency. When there is a party, that can decide, that your Bitcoin can not be used anymore. This party will abuse this power.
Top-level users(what ever that is supposed to mean) are not superior ethical.
If you want to punish criminals, do it the old fashioned way, not by abusing the Bitcoin network.

There is a party that decides the fee and such, currently.

What main reasons are there against tinting coins? Why shouldn't we begin tinting coins, such as the ones from the bitstamp hack that ended up in an address for a little while.

Unless you can arrange it in a decentralized way, I'm against it.
There must be consensus about it because Bitcoin doesn't care about the 'rightful' owner of the coins.
He who owns the private key is the owner.

I know that bit, the part about ethics is where this comes into play. I doubt anything will come out of anything that is enough to convince top-level people to implement tinting coins but nonetheless it is an interesting topic to discuss.

But who would be the 'top-level' people? The developers?
The developers can only try to convince us to use a fork with tinting feature.
I will not use it and I think many will not.
If the majority will use it, I will have to join them I guess.

Could be Gavin Andreson or even Theymos (if he sorts out the forum first Wink)
I guess it would be a "if majority votes for it it goes".

It would defeat the overall purpose.

Which is what in your eyes?

What are the main reasons for tinting coins? I don't see why coins should be marked in this way. What real benefits does it serve?

Somehow restricting criminal activity? I know, it's a tough thing to sell.

Did you make this? Really nicely done!

It's the first time that price went below the high of the previous cycle.

It's done that before. What about back in 2011 when it went from $15-$30 and then down to $3?

It went from cents to $32, to $2. What happened after didn't create a new high or low until $266.

32 was wave 1
266 was wave 3
1200 was wave 5

everything in-between were sub-waves.
Is the current wave 7? Or do you think it is yet to come ?

We could be at the dawn of wave 7.

You better never tell that a real Elliott follower. There are people who believe in this stuff.

Who is this Elliott I keep reading about?
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is tax free! on: January 21, 2015, 11:07:40 AM
tax to exchanges 0.25% for every transaction + withdrawal fees

then tax for tx

and then like mentioned above indirect tax by inflating it

- so there is a lot of tax and fees associated with btc too -

It's not tax. It's processing fee.

Taxes are fees too for using the infrastructure and being protected by the military.

But fees are not taxes. You pay fee for a (private) service, not for (public) government.
Those fees eventually end up in some government's pocket due to their tax demands on the institution that took the fees in the first place.

Until you sell your bitcoin and get hit by the US government if you lie there, asking where the sudden cash originated from.

10 % in 10 minutes, organic growth.

How the hell is that organic?
34  Other / Off-topic / Re: Are you spending your Bitcoin? on: January 18, 2015, 09:57:34 AM
I have been both spending bitcoins and earning them with my work.
I never traded on exchanges and never "invested" I never bought shitcoins; I received once some litecoins but I dropped them last summer, after realizing that they are useless as long as you have bitcoins.

And where are you working?)
But if you earning a bitcoin you must to exchange it? Or you spend them online? But unfortunately you cant buy all what you need by bitcoin... So you must exchange them?

Maybe he's referring to a different exchange. You know, altcoins to bitcoins and vice-versa.
No I never got any shitcoin, except, as I wrote, some litecoins once.
Since I am self-employed, sometimes I manage to get paid in bitcoins. I usually spend as much as I get, I don't think I have more than 10 BTC in my wallets.

But how you spend it?  you buy some food, wear?

For me it is a question too, where i can spend my bitcoins... I would like, but i can't. I live in Spain and here we have only few places where you can pay in BTC....

Go visit gyft.com where you can buy all sorts of gift cards then spend those in shops for goods or online for anything!

36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain and Multibit on: January 18, 2015, 09:55:44 AM
There are many wallets available
but MultiBit is a great light-weight wallet perfect for casual shoppers Smiley

I like Electrum. When installing it, you get some words to write down. Say you are doing this on Windows.
Then you later install Electrum wallet on say Linux (or Android), you choose to restore it, use the same words you wrote down when you installed it on Windows, and you will have THE SAME wallet now also on Linux, Android.... I just love it!

Multibit works in a similar way, you can also encrypt the wallet if you require.
37  Other / Meta / Re: How to reset/disable secret security answer? on: January 18, 2015, 09:53:49 AM
-snip-
You are right, you really should not be using a security question

If used correctly it can work as a second password. A security question which has an answer that can easily obtained by social engineering and/or research online is certainly worthless. Examples would be:
What is your mothers maiden name? -> answer: *mothers maiden name*
What is the name of your first pet? -> answer: *name of first pet*
etc.
A good use of the system would be to phrase a meaningless question and put another password as the answer, e.g.:
Want some coffee? -> answer: *WtQjXeWGHSYmJuFEDvzBa2V*

If you store the answer in a secure location you have a fallback login should you ever forget your usual password.

Instead just use an email, security questions aren't really needed if you use a strong email.
