1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / fudster guy saying bitcoin is not viable because there are too few available on: November 02, 2023, 09:17:55 AM
too few of them available for mass adoption.

so 1 btc = 100 million sats
so if at any time we have 100K BTC liquid, there would be 10 trillion sats available

the USA has 2.7 trillion available US dollars

so I dunno man I think in terms of sats I think there will always be enough BTCs available

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just completed my first totally air-gapped transaction... on: July 10, 2023, 04:02:28 AM
I actually never heard of this hardware wallet yet and it seems secure what you did however are you sure it’s considered air gapped?

You said you saved the signed transaction onto an SD card and you later put that SD card inside a online computer to broadcast. So that’s not air gapped.

Air gapped would be if you used QR codes back and forth. Honestly it really shouldn’t matter because it would be very difficult to infect the SD card and hack the Hardware wallet but it’s a precaution you can take.

Thanks for telling me about this.
I never thought about this... I mean it's a whole new level of paranoia... but... I like it...
I think it does give you qr codes, but it has no camera... hmmm .. I know they have a new wallet coming out, the Coldcard Q1, which will  have a camera for scanning qr codes
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just completed my first totally air-gapped transaction... on: July 10, 2023, 01:15:44 AM
Are you proud of me?

Did you do it to impress anyone?
Why do you care if anyone is proud of how you set that up? To me, what matters is wallet security. The ability for anyone to be able to control his own wallet without it getting compromised is everything to me. I don't care how it's done.

Since you are asking, yes, I will probably be proud of you considering that you might have done something that I have not thought of trying before. But I think I might have come across a similar situation under the technical board, where I asked about questions relating to hardware wallet acquisition and setup.

Thank you for being proud of me.
Seriously though, I wasn't being that serious with that comment.
You are correct that wallet security is all that matters. I think air gapping is a great idea.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I just completed my first totally air-gapped transaction... on: July 10, 2023, 12:33:51 AM
Using a Coldcard

I really like this idea... sometimes I can be too paranoid for my own good

So I bought a Coldcard ( with hardshell case and magnetic usb cable )

I sent a few sats, using Sparrow wallet... worked flawlessly... nothing connected... just sign the transaction on device, save to mini sd card, then load that file onto your PC, and into Sparrow to finalize.

Are you proud of me?

Quote

if everyone wins when price goes up then price would never go down so who wins when price goes down?  Shocked

People shorting Bitcoin
People who make money of ordinals
Govt and Banks who want to see Bitcoin fail so they can hock their CBDCs

Call them NFTs or Ordinals... I see this as a type of ddos attack
7  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor CoinJoin Testing on: April 28, 2023, 07:30:14 AM
I don't know enough about Coinjoin to give a proper opinion on this...

All I know is that this guy is now deadset against Trezor after they implemented this feature...

perhaps some of you more technically proficient Bitcoiners can watch this video, and weigh in on this ( honestly I am not sure how worried I should be )

8  Bitcoin / Wallet software / I think I will stick to a 24 word seed phrase ( 12 words brute forced ) on: April 28, 2023, 06:55:01 AM
Here is a link to the story

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-advocate-cracks-known-12-word-seed-phrase-in-minutes

I have heard people say the 12 words is secure enough... although, to be fair, the hacker in the story was given the 12 words, and had to put them in the correct order... using BTCrecover

The cat might be sad for a few days but it will eventually move on. They are intuitive enough to figure out that new people are now living at this house. Cats are natural hunters so they will know how to survive when you are gone. You are probably not the only person in your area who feeds stray cats so I am sure it will be fine and find a new place to visit for dinner.

Thanks... I hope you're right.
10  Other / Off-topic / Re: Been feeding this cat that visits, but I am moving... on: March 26, 2023, 05:41:50 AM
I do not think you need to worry about this cat. Because he was doing fine before you moved in he will survive on his own. It is sad to leave him but if you do not take him with you you can not feel bad about him.

He will miss the daily offerings yes. If you are lucky then the next person who lives in your place will leave him offerings. If you want you can leave a letter for the next people so if this cat comes looking for his offerings he does not get kicked away.

Ya, I mean I don't know if yanking it out of it's environment ( when I move ) is the best idea...
yes, the cat would get food... but it would have to adapt to a whole new area... and I don't think turning it into an indoor cat after years of being an outdoor cat is a good idea.

Ya I like the idea of leaving a note for the new tenants, it would be nice if they were cat people, but there's no guarantee... I think most people would see it as an unnecessary expense.
11  Other / Off-topic / Re: Been feeding this cat that visits, but I am moving... on: March 26, 2023, 05:15:18 AM
You feed the cat for years. and i thought, you really love that cat. How about you just take the cat with you. if you don't take the cat with you, when you move to a new house. You will definitely feel anxious and worried. so I thought just bring the cat.

Here's the thing, the cat has been in the area before I moved in. So it considers the area ( outdoors ) it's home...
It's a townhome complex.

So yes, it has gotten used to the food I give it... but if I just relocate it when I move, that seems like it would also be a bad thing to do, because it has lived in this area for years, and considers it home ( I have no idea if it gets food from other people and/or hunts ).

I am going to send a photo of it to the strata and ask if they know if someone owns it.

( I refer to it as 'it' not he/she because I don't know it's gender )

I have been feeding this cat for years... this outside cat who visits... every day around dinner time...

I am in a situation now where I must move.

I feel bad now, because there is no guarantee that the people who will soon occupy my place will feed this cat if it comes around...

The cat was doing fine before I move in, so maybe it will be OK again? I feel bad because I figure he has gotten used to my daily offerings.

Has anyone else been through this, or can offer advice? Am I worrying too much?

Thanx

How can someone who calls himself Crypto Jay not be smart enough to know about how hardware works and how to prevent this kind of minor incident, which he could have literally avoided?
If he can make this kind of mistake now, what will happen to his subscribers?

Ya I agree, but I don't want to victim-blame... but my suspicious mind considers he could be doing this to get views
15  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Guy buys Ledger on Amazon... his crypto gets stolen... on: March 23, 2023, 08:49:01 AM
It's already clear right where he get scammed? it's because his own fault, if he's pay more attention to see the domain and do few research, he wouldn't get scammed. I thought he was buy a legit ledger on Amazon from official reseller, but his device injected with virus and suddenly all of his coins gone. This is a hard case because anyone will thought their device are safe because there's nothing suspicious happened before.

About half way through the video he says he was prompted by the device to go to a website... at the website he was asked to start transfer over his crypto...
so ya I mean most reasonable experienced users would have seen the red flags, but he didn't... feel bad for the guy

This kind of thing scares me.
I always knew to buy hardware from the source... but honestly I didn't think buying from Amazon could lead to this
( guy bought Ledger off Amazon... his device prompted him to go to a phishing website, his coins got stolen )

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: If someone steals your seed words, but does not know your passphrase... on: March 21, 2023, 09:15:03 AM
Yes OK, thanks for clarifying... the wallet with passphrase is independent... still accessible even if the wallet without passphrase is recovered/stolen.
Yes. The victim's wallet is not compromised as long as the thief do not have access to the passphrase. But it is good to use a strong passhrase that would be difficult to brute force.

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: If someone steals your seed words, but does not know your passphrase... on: March 21, 2023, 09:06:51 AM
... so he would recover the non-passphrase wallet, but by doing so, it does not mean the passphrase wallet is now inaccessible to the victim ( who still knows the passphrase + 24 words )
Take note that the two wallets (the one without passphrase and the one with passphrase) are two different wallets with completely different addresses. Anything that happens to each of these wallets doesn't affect the other wallet.
Someone who has access to your seed phrase and doesn't know the passphrase can't have access to the wallet that is protected with a passphrase. You will be able to import your seed phrase and the passphrase in another wallet and access the fund.

Yes OK, thanks for clarifying... the wallet with passphrase is independent... still accessible even if the wallet without passphrase is recovered/stolen.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: If someone steals your seed words, but does not know your passphrase... on: March 21, 2023, 08:52:40 AM
Passphrase are not stored on hardware wallets that I know as of now, if the robber was able to see the seed phrase, he can not be able to have access to the passphrase, if the robber do not have access to the passphrase, he is not going to be able to steal the coins.

The robber goes home, and creates a new wallet with his own new hardware wallet ( it gives him the option to recover using the 24 words
I think in reality, the robber may not have hardware wallet, and he can not be that patient to first buy hardware wallet, he will follow the unsafe way which is the use of online wallet, but the passphrase will protect the coins as long as the thief do not have access to the passphrase.

The victim can just move his coins to another hardware wallet or a safe and properly generated cold wallet.

OK thank you for the reply.
Let's just say for the sake of the scenario... the robber  has a few hardware wallets back at his pad.

I guess it doesn't matter, I mean he could create a new wallet with Electrum or Sparrow.

I was just having trouble wrapping my mind around this concept....

... so he would recover the non-passphrase wallet, but by doing so, it does not mean the passphrase wallet is now inaccessible to the victim ( who still knows the passphrase + 24 words )

I guess I am just worried that if someone stole my seed words, it would kill my wallet+passphrase coins...
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / If someone steals your seed words, but does not know your passphrase... on: March 21, 2023, 08:34:06 AM
Can someone help me with this scenario...

Lets say a user owns a hardware wallet. They add a passphrase.

Some robber steals their backup words ( 24 seed words )

The robber goes home, and creates a new wallet with his own new hardware wallet ( it gives him the option to recover using the 24 words )

The robber enters the victim's 24 words... therefore recovering the victim's wallet.

....
so what I am wondering is... can the victim still enter the 24 words into a new wallet, AND enter the passphrase to recover the funds on the passphrase wallet?

or, when the robber entered the 24 words, does that make the wallet, and passphrase wallet, unaccessable?

Thanks for the help!
